Wow-- What a Temp Drop!! Is it real??

I would love to hear people's thoughts on this.
A few months ago I put together an Athlon 64 3400+ and a MSI K8T FISR with a Thermalright XP-120 HS and Vantec Stealth 120mm fan in a Lian Li PC-65 aluminum case (4 built in case fans) and an Antec Neopower 480W PS. CoreCenter said it was consistently running at 120-130 degrees F (48-54 C). No overheats. No shutdowns. I figured it was hot, but decent. I didn't know any better. I didn't have "Cool and Quiet" activated.
I did a system re-install of my OS. I started getting overheats-- up to 145 F. AHHH... I couldn't figure out the change. No hardware changes. The fans were all working. So I decided to activate Cool and Quiet in the Core Center. Now my temp reads so low I am concerned about it. It reads right at room temperature-- sometimes lower-- down to 62 degrees F (16 C). I am not noticing any performance drop either.
I have a Hardcano 13 temp monitor on order for a double check. Does the temp drop make sense?

Any CPU temperature below the ambient/room temperature can not be real. If you care about the real temperature of the CPU although your system is stable the monitoring software and/or sensor need calibration. I did the following way if you are interested.

WOW, Prescott CPU Temp drop

Well my system, Prescott 3.0 not overclocked, was running 45 at idle. I didnt like that. So I went the cheap route and got a CoolerMaster Aero 4. My system at idle is now at 34, as reported by speed fan! :biggthumbsup:WOW that is a huge drop I think

The only way I know to put a load on it is to play a game. But I cant see the SpeedFan icon when I do that. So how do I put a load on it and see/record the temp? Some kind of benchmark utility?
As far as my temp goes I am very happy. Before I put the Aero 4 on my Prescott I was just using the stock Intel cooler and my idle temp was 45. When I took the intel cooler off I noticed there were parts of the cpu that had no thermal grease at all, you know the little pad of grease that comes on the stock intel cooler. So I cleaned the cpu with alcohol using a clean rag. Then I applied Arctic Silver 5. Now my idle temp is down to 34-36 depending if my house A/C is running. I am very impressed with this little cooler,

Canon 100m f/2.8 L IS USM Macro Lens - What's in the Box for real?

I want to purchase the Canon 100m f/2.8 L IS USM Macro Lens, and the website says the only thing in the box is the lens itself and a manual.
I realize that at the very least the Lens Cap and Cover MUST be included, but then I called customer service to confrim the rest, and they said the contrary, "only the manual and lens, with no cap or cover".
Obviously that was an non-conscientious rep who didn't care if the answer was accurate or not, so I need some help from those of you who are owners... or at least a BestBuy rep who is conscientious.
Canon confirms that what is supposed to be in the box with this "L" series lens
Lens + Lens Cap + Lens Cover + LENS HOOD + LENS POUCH (the capitalized items are included because its an "L" Series lens.
Can someone confirm What's in the Box for real? Does it have these items or not?

I definitely apologize for the inaccurate information given to you from the customer service representative you spoke to. This lens is sent to us directly from Canon, and should have everything inside their packaging that they told you would be in the box. I have no direct knowledge of what comes packaged with this lens (although I wish I did, and this is actually one of the lenses that I intend on purchasing in the near future). If Canon told you that there would be the lens, the lens cap, the lens cover, a lens hood, and a lens pouch inside the packaging then that is what should be inside the box if you purchase this lens from us. The below explanation gives you an idea of what is going to come after what in a software development.
These below stages are know as Software Development Life Cycle/Waterfall Model.
1. System/Information Engineering and Modeling
As software is always of a large system (or business), work begins by establishing the requirements for all system elements and then allocating some subset of these requirements to software. This system view is essential when the software must interface with other elements such as hardware, people and other resources. System is the basic and very critical requirement for the existence of software in any entity. So if the system is not in place, the system should be engineered and put in place. In some cases, to extract the maximum output, the system should be re-engineered and spruced up. Once the ideal system is engineered or tuned, the development team studies the software requirement for the system.
2. Software Requirement Analysis
This process is also known as feasibility study. In this phase, the development team visits the customer and studies their system. They investigate the need for possible software automation in the given system. By the end of the feasibility study, the team furnishes a document that holds the different specific recommendations for the candidate system. It also includes the personnel assignments, costs, project schedule, target dates etc.... The requirement gathering process is intensified and focussed specially on software. To understand the nature of the program(s) to be built, the system engineer or "Analyst" must understand the information domain for the software, as well as required function, behavior, performance and interfacing. The essential purpose of this phase is to find the need and to define the problem that needs to be solved .
3. System Analysis and Design
In this phase, the software development process, the software's overall structure and its nuances are defined. In terms of the client/server technology, the number of tiers needed for the package architecture, the database design, the data structure design etc... are all defined in this phase. A software development model is thus created. Analysis and Design are very crucial in the whole development cycle. Any glitch in the design phase could be very expensive to solve in the later stage of the software development. Much care is taken during this phase. The logical system of the product is developed in this phase.
4. Code Generation
The design must be translated into a machine-readable form. The code generation step performs this task. If the design is performed in a detailed manner, code generation can be accomplished without much complication. Programming tools like compilers, interpreters, debuggers etc... are used to generate the code. Different high level programming languages like C, C++, Pascal, Java are used for coding. With respect to the type of application, the right programming language is chosen.
5. Testing
Once the code is generated, the software program testing begins. Different testing methodologies are available to unravel the bugs that were committed during the previous phases. Different testing tools and methodologies are already available. Some companies build their own testing tools that are tailor made for their own development operations.
6. Maintenance
The software will definitely undergo change once it is delivered to the customer. There can be many reasons for this change to occur. Change could happen because of some unexpected input values into the system. In addition, the changes in the system could directly affect the software operations. The software should be developed to accommodate changes that could happen during the post implementation period.

Chesterapple-the day before last Christmas, I dunked my 4 into a full glass of Coke. :/ I popped it out immediately, but all ports had gotten submerged. Hoping for best, but expecting the worst, because I ruined a Touch this way-I went into immediate damage control. Powered off the phone, dried with a soft towel as much as I could, then wiped the sticky Coke off. I even put the hair dryer to it's 'butt port'. Then, within minutes-I had it submerged in a baggie of white rice AND about 5-6 of those silica gel little packets that come in shoe boxes? You know what I'm referring to? Luckily, I keep all my shoes in their original box, lol. The silica draws water out of things. So, I put the phone, now covered over it's head with rice & silica packs-in a dark cabinet, sitting on it's back, completely submerged.
My contract was up anyhow, and the 26th, Best Buy offered upgrades for 5C's for free....so, yeah, went for that! Lol. I still checked in on my 4 about a week later...it was not well, turned on, but downhill from there, so I powered it off, and gave it up for dead. I was upset because I was going to use it just for an iPod. But, I still set it back up in the rice cocoon..why not?
About mid-Feb, I noticed it again in the cabinet & decided to see if it ever healed. It was half sticky and tons dusty with rice, plus some grains had gotten caught up in the butt port. So, cleaned it up again, gently got rice out. Held my breath, powered......and it came on! Not only that-it was PERFECTLY FINE. All my settings/wallpapers/contacts/apps/msgs, everything. Fine. Expected it to wack out any minute....left it on a few days to see. But it was fine, good as new! I deleted all off it, and now use it as an iPod, perfectly. Oh, one issue-water damage light came on and apparently will never leave. No biggie, since I'm keeping it. So, there's another miraculous back from the dead, but certainly don't expect it-not the norm. But, possible!

Dropped calls are such a frequent occurrence with all cell phone carriers, having a steady connection at all should be considered a miracle, and enjoyed while it lasts. Part of it has to do with an oddity of cell phone technology which can't be avoided. A cell phone picks up a signal from a tower that radiates from the tower in a cone like shape. The immediate vicinity of that tower, you may be below that cone. You'd better hope there is another tower in the right range when you are in that vicinity to cover the area below that cone from a further distance. When you are passing between towers, signals can and frequently do get dropped. Suffice it to say, the issue is with the location, not the equipment used to place the call. Consider whom in the call is moving, and track it down to that location, and ask the carrier to look into having better coverage there.

What is Temp.DBF?

In my Oracle/Oradata/XE folder are control.dbf, sysaux.dbf, system.dbf undo.dbf and users.dbf.
However, there is also a 'Temp.dbf' at around 17 GB (the others range from 6 to 400 MB in size).
All have the same system modified date.
Anyone know what this is? I can't find any reference to it.

Perhaps there is data in Temp.dbf as regards this?It shouldn't, but you have to be sure that Temp.dbf is part of temporary tablespace. You can do
SQL> select * from dba_temp_files;and check that your file is there. ThenSQL> select count(*) from dba_segments
2 where tablespace_name='<TABLESPACE NAME you got in above query>';You should get zero. Then you can create another temporary tablespace with size you want, define it as default temporary tablespace, and drop the actual one, for example
SQL> create temporary tablespace temp1 tempfile
2 '<path of new tempfile>' size 1000M;
SQL> alter database default temporary tablespace temp1;
SQL> drop tablespace temp including contents and datafiles;To drop the actual tablespace you may need to wait until nobody is using it.

When I try to connect to internet wirelessly (Parallels/Windows 7 on my Mac Pro) I get a drop down that says "Real Network adapter thunderbolt bridge used by virtual adapter 1 is not connected to the network". I can not figure out how to connect - any help is appreciated!

Since you are having trouble with Parallels or Windows, did you ask in their respective support forums? If not, you might want to consider doing so.

What is Oracle 10g Release 2 Real Application Cluster?

Hello Guys,
I have been working in Oracle database 9i for last 2 years. Just using the simple features of oracle. Now our data have grown and company wants to enhance the database version and also want to perform load balancing at oracle's end.
Have heard a lot about Oracle RAC, but i am not sure what actually is oracle rac and its installation.
What is the difference between Oracle 10g Release 2 Enterprise Installation and Oracle 10g Release 2 Real Application Cluster installation. Are these 2 different softwares available on different CDs or RAC is only a different way to install oracle 10g database in RAC mode.
Please clerify and explain. Sorry this is a very beginner level question but i want to learn it and implement it.

RAC is an extension to the Standard and Enterprise Edition to permit the same database to be managed from two or more computers. (Withe Enterprise Edition, it is an extra cost option. With Standard Edition, it is included in the price, since SE has other limitations.)
Conceptually, RAC is simple - IF you understand the difference between Instance and Database. RAC = 1 database managed by many instances
Physically, RAC requires a healthy investment in infrastructure - the infrastructure and the RAC software addresses the question: how do you get several computers able to read and write to the same disk and the same block without data corruption?
If you are serious about RAC, take a course. If you are in the US, consider http://www.psoug.org as an 'Intro to RAC' course provider.

Every time I open my Firefox browser Win Patrol reports a hidden file. I'm using XP Pro with SP2 and they are always in C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp. These files always have etilqs as the prefix with the last group of numbers and letters changing at the next time I open Firefox. This is beyond inconvenient, it is more annoying almost harassment, having to respond to WinPatrol's report. There is no way to ignore it in Win Patrol's settings so I have to either uninstall Win Patrol or Firefox. Do you know what these hidden temp files are and how I can stop them from being a constant nuisance every time I try to use Firefox? Thank you for any help you can give me.

WinPatrol is nagging you about those because you enabled the Monitor Hidden Files option, which isn't recommended.

The ONLY programs you can download MUST come from the app store.

Wow what a pretty hunk of crap

Worked fine for months and today...nothing. I had updated it to 7.1.1 so I flashed it to 7.1 but that did not help. I completely reset it. Nothing. I know it is the Airport Extreme because when I plug the ethernet into my MacBook directly, I get on the internet fine.

Indeed. Many ISP (Verizon, for example) require the DSL/cable modem to be off at least 8 full hours before the ISP will switch to accepting connections from a new MAC address. It is called Mac Authentication, and it is a know issue that crops up when switching between direct PC connections, a router and a new router.
