Wp8.1 skype sucks

No Skype notifications in the tray when you get an IM; you're supposed to be notified. Missed a chance to hang with a buddy tonight. App takes FOREVER to load. Window doesn't adjust to view what you're typing. It's a Microsoft product and apple's app is way better. Sad.

Sign-up for Skype Manager, then setup a SIP Profile. Then get a IP-PBX or SIP server [I personally am using Brekeke Sip Server]
Then have each UA REGISTER to the SIP or IP-PBX server [UAS]. If your Skype DID is forwarded to SIP # and called, it should forward via routing to any extension once they register ip-phones.

I noticed the same thing. The new version has obnoxious color schemes and superfluous icons, and is nowhere near as compact as it used to be. If the dev team could release a list of actual benefits for this update and why we should all want it, that'd be great.

Everybody hates new Skype, why won't you revert?

So, this forum is full of people that think this version of Skype, sucks big dong. I'm not talking about certain people that don't like it, I'm talking about threads that if is about Skype sucking, only negative feedback is given. People hate your damned version of Skype, 70% of your users hate new Skype, 10% just takes whatever it's given and 20% doesn't know how to complain, yet. Don't you understand this Microsoft, people hate YOUR BIG PIECE OF y'know what. Nobody likes it and still your greatest answer is: - Manually go to [this] link.- Then download Skype- Have it complain about newer versions- Have pain uninstalling newer Skype- Have pain installing older version of Skype- Complain little less about Skype, because it's still Microsoft's and it still sucks.- Complain on forums about Skype and watch them dodge your feedback like it was pure lava. If there was a light bulb which shines once user complains about Skype, it would've changed into defusion reactor. So why not swap to that older Skype? What was so bad for it? You know, I am not a hater; but the new skype looks like it was designed by a call center in India. Total lack of intuaitive UI; it is so user unfreindly that EVERY time I use it I feel lost. The Android app requires you to scroll through your entire contract list to get to a contact. It does not have predictive dial contact search - a basic feature of even the most simplistic mobiles for over 10 years. Microsofts attempts to create a unified program model reliant on IE and it is rediculous. I am sure that the uninspired pinheads that designed this software call thier mothers every nigh and tell them all about the wonderful success they had in thier corporate positions; as "developers" in charge of snuffing out the usability and friendliness of what used to be a flagship of digital communication. While I am on the topic I really despise Microsoft for what it did to Windows ..with thier ridiculous Windows 8. Dont they understand that people who actually use computers to PRODUCE (rather than consume) content usually have multiple screens and minimal coherent user interface is the lifeblood of productivity. BUT NOOOO Microsoft "developers" (deveolutionists) make the UI buttons big enough to still allow an epileptic in a Grande Mal to use a computer. Why did you do that ??? You have blanketed the same functionality with a ridiculous UI that has to be "peeled back" anytime I want to do something useful. Once again I am sure the unispired corporate coffee drinkers call mom every night and tell her how they are changing the world.....

Skype can't connect - most likely router problem, ...

Lately I can't connect to Skype at home. I've tried a lot of different solutions but none of them work.
The problem started a few months ago when I just couldn't sign into Skype (can't connect). At that time I had no change in any network settings on my computer nor my router. Interestingly enough, I could connect to Skype on Ubuntu (I have dualboot). Though even Ubuntu eventually failed to connect back then (just can't sign in) - still no changes in my network. I couldn't be bothered at the time with the problem so I just didn't use Skype.
However after some time (some weeks or a month or two), when I tried to connect to Skype again, it worked (on Win 7 as well as Ubuntu). Again, no changes to my network have been done in the mean time (Skype might of been updated, but I doubt it was on both platforms at the same time).
So Skype worked for a while until about a month ago, when the problem reoccurred. This time I said I'm going to get to the bottom of this so here is the situation:
I can connect to Skype at work no problem (on my desktop as well as my Android phone)
I can't connect to Skype at home (just won't sign in) on my desktop nor my phone
I have tried:
Reinstalling Skype with cleaning everything that Skype might have left behind
Installing an (a bit) older version 6.9 (because even the latest 6.11 didn't work). Though these two attempts I've come to see are in vain once I figured out that I can't connect to Skype on my phone as well.
Resetted my router a couple of times.
Reset my router settings to default.
Opened/forwarded Skype ports to my (local) IP. I even enabled DMZ to redirected all traffic to my desktop computer (although I'm not 100% sure that that worked as I imagine it should work).
Tried some proxy settings in Skype (Connection options) I found on your forum.
None of the above worked in any way...
My router is a TP-Link TL-WR1043ND with (I think the latest) firmware version 3.13.13 Build 130428 Rel.58290n (hardware is v1).
TLDR:
I can't sign in to Skype at home. It works when I'm at work. I can connect to Skype on my phone if I'm at work (over WiFi) or if I'm on 3G, but not if I'm on my home WiFi. That said, no software firewall can be the problem here, but my router. However I have no more ideas as to what else I can try. This forum is my last hope for finding a solution.

I do not know the makeup of Skype's internal security policies when it comes to this as they are not too open about this. Most companies are not. These are the only reasons I believe a block would occur based off any company's security policy.
1. A proactive measure - A blacklist of IPs is constantly obtained/updated to include anonymizer services that might harm the network.
2. An active/counteractive measure -
I. Someone uses an anonymizer to SPAM people on the Skype network:
a. Users complain using the abuse option. Users get the IP Auto-banned.
b. The company (Skype) receives the complaints or notices a trend and Manual/Auto bans the IP.
II. Too many people (connections) sign on with the same IP (due to an exit relay/proxy). Due to this being very suspicious, (maybe even DDos-like behavior) the IP is Auto-banned.
I tend to lean more towards the counteractive measure since I don't believe many proactive measures are needed to limit abuse. There is always at least one rotten apple that engages in illegal activity using anonymizers, proxies, etc. that ruin it for everybody. In reality I believe it is a combination/balance of the two. Not to be prejudice against anonymizers, just blacklists to protect the network from known attacks. For whatever reason once the threshold is met, the IP is banned. If I had to guess how long it would be in intervals of 30 days (30, 60, 90, 120, etc.). The whole Internet is not going to banned so the security policies in effect can't be too strict. It's goal is probably just to limit the majority of bad behavior that causes problems for their customers.
Skype is not the only service that reacts this way. Even ISPs will receive notices and in turn will send notices to their customer that since illegal activity (RIAA notices, etc.) is occurring due to a Tor exit relay or some other anonymizer, the ISP will terminate services with that customer if they don't cease (due to breach of contract).
I don't know whether you can limit an exit relay so it can't be used to access Skype. It may be a lost cause. If I made the choice to run a similar service it would be with a whitelist of people I knew who wouldn't use it to perform illegal activity, just remain anonymous when online.
You shouldn't have any issues running a non exit relay since in doing so your IP is not being broadcast all over the Internet like a calling card which an exit relay does. Changing your modem's MAC address is something you need to call your ISP for. However changing your router's MAC address generally does not require that. All that is required is a reboot of the modem, router, and possibly computer if you run into issues. You will probably continue to run into the same problem as long as you attempt to run an exit relay.
Be aware that for every IP that get's banned on your ISP is another IP a person could get issued for 24 hours to a week + after it gets released. Some people then visit this community and complain how they can't connect when it worked not too long ago and how Skype "sucks". So sometimes things like this create a ripple effect for other customers.

Then the "directions" after typing her Skype address "In the top right corner of the window, click Add to Contacts and enter some text to introduce yourself. This is important to let your friend know that you’re adding them as your Skype contact. When you’re done, just click Send." Well, folks it AIN'T showing anything there! I have looked all over the site and can't find anything like that. THAT is why I need to speak with a live, breathing, human being!

What's with this

This new skype sucks what the hell why did you. Get rid of the sound option now what am I going to do if someone. Enters a call and they have a lot of static or IM trying to listen to a video but everyone in the call is too loud.

Untitled.compressor is just the job file. If you save it, you can open it later with the same files and output settings referenced.
This is useful if you run a series of iterations tweaking either master files or output settings and don't want to drag everything over overtime you run another pass.
Otherwise, just click no and be happy.
fwiw, compressor 3 did this as well.

I can't find people. When is MSN messenger coming ...

Skype sucks, I want MSN messenger back. I currently use Pidgin but I have problems to find people who use skype... my kid has skype, but when I search on his email address I can't find him...

I fully agree with you. MSN Messenger needs to come back. Leave Skype behind. There isn't anything to Skype but a video chat app that hasn't changed or got new features (Like we were all promised when WLM was retired, that Skype would get all the features and functions WLM had. 2 years and nothing has changed about Skype. They lied 2 years ago when I asked about it. So yes, we need Windows Live Messenger/MSN Messenger back. It was awesome. Besides, it worked side by side with MSN Explorer Premium fully. Skype is nothing and I think it was wrong to force users of MSN/Windows Live Messenger to go to Skype. I NEVER would have if MSN Messenger was still here. And I am betting millions agree too.

This so called NEW SKYPE sucks sorry but you are as bad a run around as the new ummm PHONE SERVICES we now get with no person on the other end of the line when you have to keep repeating words and it keeps saying "sorry can you please repeat that I did not quite understand". Why can I not access my skype contacts and see my previous people I talked with. When you make these things soooooooo bloody complicated yet simplistic the average person can take hours just to try to access your so called easy system why even offer it??? So no matter what I WILL NEVER FIND A WAY TO ACCESS THIS PAGE AGAIN. As I could not even find a way to talk to someone with so called technical experience to get me back to my original skype account. So close it out or make it user friendly.

For example if you can't make calls then where do you wish to call and what subscription you have?

Unreliable call notifications on Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8

My wife and I both own the Lumia 920 with the latest Windows Phone 8 update (GDR2/Lumia Amber). We have installed Skype on each handset. We are signed into the app and into our Live accounts. I used her phone and Skyped my phone. Nothing happened. Though her Skype app showed my phone to be "ringing," my phone in fact never gave any indication that a call was trying to come in. There was also no notification on the lockscreen, though I enabled that feature on my phone's settings.
I went into the Skype app and looked under its settings, but all I find are toggles to turn on Skype and Messenger messages, both of which are on. I know that I'm missing something. I checked Background Tasks on the handset. Skype doesn't show up on the list of blocked apps. But neither does it show up as "allowed." When I go into Background Tasks > Advanced, there is a list of grayed-out items that I "may not be able to block," and Skype is on that list. But I can find no option to manually permit it.
How do I know when someone is Skyping me?

It's been over a month since my first post and providing the Skype team with details for them to troubleshoot, still no word from them. I have almost all the issues that you would find online about Skype and nothing they said is fixed works for me. I have since tested on my iPad 2 (iOS 7) as well, same story and having multiple devices made it even worse. I don't get sound when text notifications arrive on my iPad, just on-screen alerts (yes, Skype notifications have been set to play sound). Calls only show up as missed calls after the fact, just like my WP8. Skype was unresponsive when I tried to pick up a text notification on the iPad and I had to switch over to my WP8, just to have my first failed reply using the iPad pop up the next day on my PC. What's even funnier was the other side received this "first" response 5 or 6 hours before I saw it on my side and his response to that didn't get to me until 7 hours later when the real conversation concluded the night before. The multiple device sync they said they fixed back in the Feb release isn't working either. I would be texting away on the iPad and my phone sitting right next to me would be pinging away with notifications. So much for only sending notifications to the active device. Maybe they're pinging my phone to compensate for the soundless iOS? Even something simple as emoticons is messed up. I've received them as code on my PC from someone texting me from another Skype account, they've turned into little squares or code if I view the conversation on a different device from the one I used to send them originally. Profile pics of contacts appear and disappear at random. Even what you think is the most stable and functional PC version is crapping out. Statuses of my contacts are rarely current and you need to log off and log back on to trigger it to refresh. And that doesn't work 100% of the time. Renaming contacts on the PC does nothing when you view it on other devices. So my contacts who have mutliple accounts show up with the exact same name multiple times on my WP8 and iPad. I have to go into the contact details in order to tell which one is personal and which one is work. I don't think you can make it this bad if you intentionally tried. They have essentially killed two great products with one merger and pissed off both loyal Messenger and Skype users. If I didn't have contacts on Lync, which only Skype can reach when you don't have Lync at home, I would have been so gone.

Skype 5.5 sucks

I have just got the skype 5.5 update and it sucks as it doesn't solve most of the critical issues but this doesn't means that the links preview and easy sign in is n't a good improvment but it is adding LESS IPRORTANT FEATURES AND NEGLECTING THE CUSTOMERS FEEDBACK I thought that skype is going to fix any of these issues that have been reported weeks and month ago but unfortunately we get that it has been reported internally and we get surprised by the new update totally neglecting them 1- the camera preview in video calls is too large that it hides most of the other person's face just compare the size of camera preview of skype and facebook messenger and facetime you will find that skype's one is almost three times bigger than any other seccessful app 2- if the other person is using a different orientation than mine ex. If I am using my phone in portrait mode and the other is landscape the imahe will be extremely zoomed in by default .. zooming is a good featuring but it should show the entire image unless the user want to zoom !!! 3- It takes about 40 seconds to start ringing while other apps like fb messenger and whatsapp takes only 2 seconds 4- no ringtone customization at all 5- some messages won't appear as if they were lost and then after few messages and calls it appears 6- the status of my contacts if meaningless and my status even if I am not connected to the internet changes from away which is already meaningless to available !!!! 7- the profile pictures of my contacts doesn't appear unless we make a call or send a message8- to search for someone I can't see the result's pictures in the search result

now all my contacts who have skype on their android phones and actually updated it to skype version 5.5 appears always to be available even though they aren't connected to the internet and by all of them I mean all of them no matter which device they are on there is no exception in my contacts .. this sucks and definately an even worse model of being always away and even more meaningless ..

The bug if you kill the Skype Apps,
Skype Apps for wp 8.1
Wont run correctly as Background Task.
Skype Developer is now not paying attention on this apps.
They must fix this Major Problem.
While Skype Apps for windows Phone 8 if you kill it, would works very well.
So hey Microsoft Skype. Please Fix this !
