WPA cisco877w and Aironet1121G

I was trying to set up Cisco877w and Aironet1121 G as a repeater. All works fine without any security on. However when I put WPA with shared key, Access point cannot associate to router anymore. I used config example from cisco.com and it doesn't work. Can anyone help?

The issue may be due to lower gain antennas installed. the best way to use directional antennas in point to multipoint places and directional antenna in point to point places.

  • WPA networking and Leopard

    Hello All,
    I use TLS and WPA to connect to my school's servers. I am currently running 10.4.11, and everything works fine. I would like to know (from other WPA users and possibly TLS users) whether the early problems regarding WPA and the rewritten Kerberos engine were resolved or not, so I know if I should upgrade to Leopard or not.
    Thanks!

    I am using WPA psk connections in Leopard but have not used any other types of authentication.
    As nobody else has confirmed the answer your looking for why not find out for yourself and post back your results.
    What I would suggest is to install leopard onto a portable usb2 or firewire drive. A minimal install with no printer drivers or localisations only takes 20 mins to install. Then boot your mac from that drive and see if you can connet.
    If you don't have issues then you could go ahead and upgrade your internal drive.

  • 5800 XM WPA-PSK and network profiles problem

    Hi,
    I've just purchased a 5800XM phone, with the idea of setting up my personal email account on the device, using my office's network access point.
    The access point / router is a Comtrend 5361. The SSID is set to hidden (no broadcast), and the security is set to WPA-PSK (pre-shared key).
    On the Nokia phone I go to 'Settings -> Connectivity -> Wireless LAN' and choose 'Other (hidden netw.)'.
    Then I choose 'Connect', set the WLAN network name, the phone shows a message 'No WLAN network found', but then prompts to choose network mode (Infrastructure - Hidden),  and then password. It connects succesfully and asks for storing the network profile under offline mode, I tell it to do so, and the new profile appears under 'Network destinations -> Internet'. So until now everything seems ok.
    The problem is that after the phone disconnects from the internet, the stored profile seems to be useless, since the phone never connects automatically even if the AP is available and always shows 'Search for WLAN'. In the list the hidden access point never shows up so the only choice is repeating the steps that I mentioned above, creating a new profile every time I want to surt the net.
    Is there a solution to this, or a third party software that can do the trick?, I have OS V21.0.25, custom version 21.0.025.219.06 from Vodafone, no updates available as of today, but I've tested it with a phone that has the latest OS v30 and it shows the same behavior.
    I can't change the access point settings, so I must stick to WPA and hidden SSID, so for me this is almost a deal breaker.

    Ok, I was testing the wifi part without a sim card inserted, with a sim, the phone connects to the profile properly, but without the sim it has an odd behavior, not loading the profile and wrongly stating that it can't connect when it does (but disconnects randomly).
    So the problem is that wireless lan management doesn't work properly without a sim card.

  • WPA security and iBook

    I have searched and searched and read and read and called Buffalo and cannot solve this problem. Hope someone can help.
    I have set up a Buffalo Airstation (MHR-G54S) with my Macbook and it works just great wirelessly with WPA-PSK (AES) security enabled. However, I cannot get an iBook 500 dual USB with regualr airport card to connect to the network - the iBook "sees " the network but when I try to connect I get the message
    "there was an error joining the Airport network etc"
    The iBook has OS 10.3.9 and all system updates including Airport 4.2.
    Am I trying to do something that is not possible with the iBook?
    I have also tried to set up WEP security and that doesn't work with the Macbook or iBook but I am not sure I really understand how to set up the passwords for that even after reading the apple KB documents and posts about it.

    I have set up a Buffalo Airstation (MHR-G54S) with
    my Macbook and it works just great wirelessly with
    WPA-PSK (AES) security enabled.
    "WPA Personal" on the Mac corresponds to plain WPA, with a pre-shared key (PSK) and TKIP encryption, on non-Apple wireless routers.

    Hi,
    This should be asking you only the password not the username as you have confired with wpa-psk. What client device are you testing this with? If this is wondows machine please choose your sececurity as WPA-Personal on the wireless profile and then it would asked for the Security Key..You will have to enter your password there. The password from the configuration i can see it as cisco.
    wpa-psk ascii 7 cisco
    Hope thats helos,

  • WLSE, WPA v1 and v2

    Using
    - WLSE 1130 Release 2.15.2
    - AP1250 IOS 12.4(10b)XXX
    Hi all,
    When creating template with WLSE, we have to choose between WPA version 1 or 2, which generate IOS :
    - authentication key-management wpa version 1
    or
    - authentication key-management wpa version 2
    With Access point older than 1250, there is no consequence, Only the "Encryption settings" will be significant, and so we can use WPAv1 AND v2 simultaneously (AES CCMP+TKIP).
    With an 1250 access point, In the SECURITY / SSID, for a SSID we have to choose between
    - WPA
    - WPA version 1
    - WPA version 2
    Th first one will permit to use v1 AND v2 simultaneously, whereas the second choice limit to version 1 and the third choice limit to version 2.
    The problem is : In WLSE, we only have TWO CHOICES : v1 or v2 exclusively ! and not the only "WPA" choice ...
    How can we specify in the template to configure the AP to use version 1 AND version 2 ?
    Thanks.
    SD.

    V1 and V2 are workprocesses in which corresponding update bundles (by using calls to corresponding update FMs) are executed.
    V1 is for primary updates (like txnl tables) while V2 is used for secondary (eg statistical LIS) updates.
    You call an update FM in such task with
    "call function '  ' in update task ..."

  • What is the WEP or WPA password, and where can I find it?

    I just bought an HP dv9013cl with wireless 802.11a/b/g and I am able to connect to my airport, but after it asks for a WEP or WPA password. What is this password and where can I find it. Thanks for the help.
    Halfpiper900

    Goto Airport Admin Utility, click on CONFIGURE. At the top of the screen that opens, click on PASSWORD, you'll see what looks like a lock. A drop down screen will show the Hex WEP password.

  • [Solved] Trouble with WPA/WPA2 and wireless connections (ath9k)

    Hi, I'm having some issues with my Arch install. Right now I'm posting this from Windows so I don't have precise logs, but I mostly remember the issue so bare with me.
    I'm using ath9k with my Bigfoot Killer 1202 card (not sure what the exact model is), and I can't connect to my university's WPA/WPA2 access point. Using wpa_supplicant I get the error "4-way handshake failed - pre-shared key may be incorrect".
    So after some digging I found that I can get it to authenticate with nohwcrypt=1, but when I rmmod ath9k && modprobe ath9k nohwcrypt=1 it enumerates itself as wlan0 (instead of wlp3s0, which is what I get from booting up).
    Then I made the file /etc/modprobe.d/ath9k with the contents "options ath9k nohwcrypt=1" but it seems to still not want to connect until I rmmod && modprobe manually.
    Can someone point me in the right direction on how to fix this issue? I haven't used Arch in a few years and a lot of things have changed, and so far it seems nothing works as I expect it to. Also, how do I get my wifi card to enumerate as the same device no matter when I load ath9k? I don't care if it's called wlan0 or wlp3s0, I just want it to stay the same.

    Update: It seems to work ONLY when I rmmod && modprobe; if I force nohwcrypt=1 at boot it doesn't seem to work. Seems kind of odd... Wonder if this is a kernel issue?
    Edit: Also updated with dmesg (because I'm an idiot and forgot to include it)

    Edit: I ended up solving my problem -- the issue I was running into was that ath9k was baked into my initrd without nohwcrypt=1. I opted to `mkinitcpio` again without MODULES='ath9k' -- alternatively, you could add a modprobe.d file to FILES= to get it to work, but I just figured this is simpler.

  • WPA Wireless and static IP?

    Hello, I have a WPA (not WPA2) encrypted wifi network at my house. I have both arch boxes connected to it fine. But I want to assign a static IP to one of them. Are the procedures the same as for an ethernet device? I would think not, but I am not sure how to do this.

    You can either set the router to assign specific IPs based on each computer's MAC address (this is how you do it on the kind of router I have, for example), or you can configure it on each of the computers.  This is, for example, how I have it set up on my computer using WPA2 network and netcfg.
    CONNECTION="wireless"
    DESCRIPTION="A wpa2 encrypted wireless connection using static ip"
    INTERFACE=ath0
    SCAN="no"
    SECURITY="wpa-config"
    ESSID="xxxxxxxxxxxxx"
    IP="static"
    IFOPTS="192.168.1.143 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255"
    GATEWAY="192.168.1.1"
    DNS1=208.67.222.222
    DNS2=208.67.220.220

  • Found iPad 2 solution for WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK

    My security setting is WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK on my modem/wirless router with Time Warner Cable. IPad does not have an option to select this security setting when attempting to connect to a WiFi network. I could connect my iPad by WiFi on some ocassions (selecting WPA or WEP on the iPad). However, I would lose connection after about 5-10 minutes.  I have been having this problem for about 3 months. I spent a couple of hours on the phone yesterday with Time Warner and we think we "stumbled across" the fix (instead of actually knowing we found it).  The tech noticed that the setup on the Time Warner modem/wireless router had the box for Active WPS checked. After the Time Warner tech unchecked Active WPS within the router's setup, the iPad starting picking up the WiFi signal. The iPad has now functioned for a full 24 hours without a problem or shutdown!
    Please alert your techs and post this info on your website. When I talked with Apple techs in the past, they had no known solution to this situation and said that Apple simply did not support WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK. The Time Warner tech also said that "he thinks" (but isn't sure) Apple's designation of WPA Enterprise equates to what others call the "old WPA" (or simply WPA) and what Apple calls WPA, others actually refer to as WPA-PSK (the newer WPA).

    Hope you found a solution before now, but if not, try this:
    Go into Settings, click on Wi-Fi and pick "Other" in the Network section.
    Type your Network name in the name field (Caps do seem to matter), click on security and check WPA2.
    Click the "Other Network" button to go back, input your password, click "Join".
    You should now be good to go.

  • Wpa-supplicant and ipw3945

    Hello everyone.
    I've always struggled with my network configuration. I got along some time to configure it every time I reboot my computer or I wanted to use another wireless network, as I don't often reboot and wireless configuration is mostly three painless bash lines for my purpose.
    But now I want to automate this annoying process. I stumbled over the Autowifi wiki article which seems to meet my needs perfectly.
    Though I thought I won't experience any problems as my network configuration is fairly easy, here they are.
    By now I connect to a non-encrypted wireless network by dhcp. (WPA encryption disabled for testing purpose as I thought it may be an error source.)
    I can connect to my wireless network with the following commands:
    # iwconfig eth1 essid wlan@alex
    # dhclient eth1
    I've installed wpa_supplicant according to the wiki article.
    My /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf looks like this:
    update_config=0
    ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
    ctrl_interface_group=users
    eapol_Version=1
    ap_scan=0
    fast_reauth=1
    network={
    ssid="wlan@alex"
    key_mgmt=NONE
    As autowifi does not work I've tried to run wpa_supplicant manually.
    I ran it with this command and the output looks fine:
    # wpa_supplicant -i eth1 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -dd
    Output: http://pastebin.archlinux.org/12946
    My autowifi configuration is left to it's defaults as I think I don't have anything to change by now:
    /etc/conf.d/autowifi
    INTERFACE="eth1"
    CONFIG="/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf"
    /etc/autowifi/networks/default
    NETWORK="dhcp"
    As you've guessed from the title, my wlan adapter uses the ipw3945 drivers. I read that wpa_supplicant doesn't support this driver at all, does support it if I enable it in the compiling options or does support the driver by default. What of this is true?
    Thanks for your reply.
    And sorry if this thread has become too long. \:

    I've never used autowifi, but I thought I'd chime in to say that the ipw3945 driver does work with wpa_supplicant, and even WPA-TKIP secured networks.  I have the 3945 chipset as well and I've used wpa_supplicant with wifi-radar to connect to my own home network.  Below is an example of my wpa_supplicant settings for a secured WPA-TKIP connection (WPA Personal with Passkey authentication):
    ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
    ctrl_interface_group=0
    ap_scan=1
    fast_reauth=1
    network={
        ssid="wireless-network-name"
        scan_ssid=1     # only needed if your access point uses a hidden ssid (mine does)
        key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
        proto=WPA
    #    pairwise=TKIP    # wifi-radar seems to figure this out on its own, but you may need to uncomment them
    #    group=TKIP    # wifi-radar seems to figure this out on its own, but you may need to uncomment them
        psk=f80c1487388b2a2150aa699ba1695024fb493d36e1c42f8327a78537a0728ade    # generated with the command below
    To generate the preshared passkey, run:
    $ wpa_passphrase your-network-ssid
    Now enter the password at the prompt and press Enter
    Copy/paste the generated code to your wpa_supplicant info

  • Ssid access control with WPA Ent and RADIUS author

    Hi, I'd like to control the ssid requested in WPA Enterprise with RADIUS authorization: how to ?
    Is there an attribute in RADIUS IOS or Cisco Aironet ?

    iwconfig eth1 essid network
    but when I try the following with WPA I can't connect:
    iwconfig eth1 essid yyy mode managed key restricted s:xxx

  • TX and Wi-Fi. My TX doesn't have WPA protocol

    I've got a functioning wireless network at home (Linksys DIR-655), and several machines that successfuly connect.
    My router is using configures as follows:
    Security mode:  WPA-Personal,
    WPA Mode:  WPA Only
    Cipher type:  TKIP & AES
    802.11 Mode:  b/g/n
    Channel:  6
    Channel width:  20Mhz
    Here's the problem:  My TX only has WEP and WPA-PSK, not WPA.  As I understand it, WPA-PSK is not the same as WPA.
    To answer the questions in the "Checklist"
    1. Are you using an encryption scheme? WEP? Hex or ASCII? What bit depth, 64 or 128? WPA? Have you entered the exact case-sensitive key into your Palm? (Remember, 64-bit Hex on the router = 40-bit Hex on Palm, 128-bit on a router = 104 on Palm). If using "Passphrase", what is the ACTUAL KEY the passphrase generates? If a 10-digit code is produced, enter that into your Palm as a 40-bit Hex code. Also, try unchecking the "Use Four Keys" option.
    --> Using WPA, hex.  I did enter the exact case-sensitive key. My router has the option of WEP, WPA-Personal, and WPE-Enterprise.  My TX asks for a "passphrase."  Is this the same as the hex key used by my router?  I did not enter a password/passphrase that was encrypted to form a key.  My key was automatically generated by my router.
    2. Is your router an 802.11/g or /n model? Is it set it to either "mixed" mode or "/b AND /g"? (The Palm is an 802.11/b model). If the router is set to "/g Only" it won't work. Try changing the broadcast channel of your router to something other than Channel 6 (the default). There may be many other routers nearby all broadcasting on the same channel with the same SSID! (default).  If it is a newer "/n" router, try using the "/b and /g" mode if the "/b /g /n" mode causes problems.
    -->802.11 b/g/n
    3. Are you using MAC (Media Access Control) filtering in your router? If so, have you added the Palm's MAC? (On the TX, the MAC address is printed on the back of the unit). Are you running any kind of "Network Monitor" software that configures your router for you? Is there a "Lock Network" feature that is turned on?
    --> No MAC filtering on router
    4. Try entering the following address into your Web Browser on your Palm and see if a page opens: http://66.54.39.105 If it does open, then you need to enter the DNS (found inside your router labeled "Primary DNS and Secondary DNS" or DNS1, DNS2) numbers manually into your settings for the Wifi Connection you use.
    (Wifi icon/Prefs/Setup/[highlight your router] /Edit /Configure /Details /Advanced/Change DNS server to manual and enter the numbers.)
    -->  Cannot connect to http://66.54.39.10
    5. Is the "Use Custom Proxy" option set in Blazer by mistake? Check in Blazer/Pull down menu/Options/Preferences/Set Proxy/ Uncheck "Use Custom Proxy".
    -->  Custom Proxy is unchecked.
    6. Have you tried unchecking "Conserve Power" from the Palm's "Wifi/Prefs"? (Palm TX ONLY -This seems to be causing a conflict on some routers).
    --> Conserve Power unchecked.
    7. Can you connect to any other router/Wifi Hotspot with your Palm? (If you can, then the configuration between your problem router and the Palm is not correct).
    --> Have not tried any other router/wifi hotspots
    8. Try cycling power to your router, then try to go online. Also, check to see that Dates and Times all are close to the same in all devices - PC, router, and Palm.
    --> Done.  No difference.
    9. Check this posting at Brighthand.com entitled "How to choose and set up a wireless router with the TX": http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=98008
    --> Done.  It talks about WEP and WPA-PSK, not WPA.
    10. Are there other routers close by you that are all on the same channel?  (All named "linksys" and on channel 6?)  Try changing to a clear one, away from the others.
    --> There are a couple other routers nearby, but I doubt this is the problem as my wireless laptops connect without a flaw.
    Would appreciate any and all help!
    Post relates to: Palm TX

    Ok, now we're getting somewhere!!!!
    I have a Dlink DIR-625, close to the same software setup.  I see the same thing you do, and my TX's (I have two of them) both connect perfectly, as do the 5 other devices in my home network!  I don't have a Cipher option though.  This might be the difference.
    Log into your router, then go to the SETUP tab up top, and then click "Wireless Settings" in the left column.
    I'll list my setup:
    Enable Wireless: check
    Wireless Network Name:  (whatever your SSID is)
    Wireless Channel: (I chose channel 2 to get away from the neighbors)
    802.11 mode: Mixed /n, /g, /b     <----(this is a must!  You have to have a mode chosen with /b in it.)
    Channel Width: Auto 20/40
    Transmission Rate: Best
    Visibility:  (your choice)
    WIRELESS SECURITY MODE
    WPA personal
    WPA
    WPA only
    Group Key Update Interval: 3600
    PRE SHARED KEY    (also known as "WPA-PSK", exactly what is on your TX!)
    (Enter your own password/passphrase here)
    Go back up the page a bit and click "Save".  Your router will most likely reboot itself, and you'll have to change the password on all your other devices if you use a new word as the PSK.
    That should do it!  Everything works great here, the computers, TX's, Wii, IP Camera, all existing happily together in Harmony...

  • HT1178 What the difference is between WPA and WPA2 and how are these settings affecting the access of other computers to the internet through my Time Capsule

    I have a Time Capsule of the 4th generation and I am pretty impressed since I just had a fried harddrive on my 3 month old Imac and Time Capsule restored it fully including all programs etc. without having me to put in all serial numbers etc. for that I give it an A+. However what I find very frustrating is the very short and incomplete user manual and setup instructions. I give those a D-. It does not explain the consequences of certain choices to a normel non computer gig user like me:
    I do not understand what the consequences and difference is between the security setting WPA/WPA2 and WPA2 when setting it up. It would be helpful if the manual would explain something like: If you set it onto WPA2 then computers older than XXX years will not able to hook up to the internet through your router...or the likes, since I slowly supect this may be the reason for some of my troubles.
    I also have a 5 year old PC with vista connected to the Time Capsule. It can wireless connect to the Time Capsule and access the printer (I have managed that after some painful hours...) but it cannot access the internet with that PC through the timecapsule wireless, only if I hook it up with a cable. Why? Does that have to do with the fact that I have set the TIme Capsule to WPA2?
    Our PS3 can connect wireless, no problem. However, I friend of mine tried it with a quite new Toshiba Notebook and he could see the Time Capsule but again it shows the line from the Time Capsule to the internet blocked. All other computers linked with data cable to the Time Capsule are connected to the internet no problem. What have we done wrong? Should I change the security setting to WPA/WPA2?
    I tried the latter, but then another problem does come up, which was there from beginning on: When I change the settings for my Time Capsule my Imac suddenly cannot find the Timne Capsule anymore, even so I am only 3feet away from it. When I set it up for the first time 3 month ago it drove me crazy. The very first time it found the Time Capsule right away. But when I discuverd a mistake in my initial setup and I went through the settings again to change stuff it suddenly could not find the Time Capsule anymore. Only after frustrating 20 times or so with turning wi-fi on and off several times inbetween did it suddenly find the Time Capsule in the set up menu. However, when I tried changing my security setting to WPA/WPA2 today to see whether this solves my other problems again it could not find the Time Capsule when I was finished with the settings and I had to give up/cancel. Why is that???
    I would really appreciate some help here. But please I am not a computer gig and normally always had assistance with these things. On the other hand I am not all stupid either (even so these manuals assuming we all grew up sleeping on a computer make me feel stupid).....
    Thank you all in advance

    Hello Schimi. The Time Capsule is a kind of product that offer you two possibility:
    - To use the TC as a router or as an external HD.
    The difference between WPA and WPA 2 are:
    - They are two kinds of internet connection.
    WPA uses dynamic key encryption , which means that the key is constantly changing and makes the invasion of a wireless network more difficult than WEP . WPA is considered one of the highest levels of wireless security for your network and is recommended if your devices support this kind of encryption . Newer routers offer WPA2 security . WPA2 is compatible with WPA , but offers higher security level . In fact, it meets the high standards of many government agencies . If the router and computer support WPA2 , this should be your choice.
    If you need any help or if you find some difficult setting up it you can contact Apple Support.
    I am sure that they can help you with that.
    I am sory for the delay. I holpe that you solve your issue.
