WPA Personal password- no "okay"

I am attempting to join a new wireless network. I know I have the network name and password correct. I click on the airport icon, select the network, and type in the password. The problem is, the "OK" button never changes from grey (i.e. I cannot click it). The wireless security type is WPA personal.
Argh, help! Thanks.

Hi musselshells, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Is this under the Airport icon>Join Other, in Network Prefs>Airport>Airport tab, or in Internet Connect?

Are you absolutely certain your existing wireless network is configured for WEP and not WPA security? If it is configured for WEP, then the box prompting you to enter the password should allow you to choose WEP as the security protocol that should be used.

  • Security Mode option: "Capture (wlansec. wpapersharekey) WPA Personal" ?

Hi, I'm trying to support my father remotely and was reviewing his security setup over the phone, making sure everything was still okay. He has the wrt54g (I think v5 and I don't know the firmware version) - and in Wireless> Wireless Security> Security Mode he has "Capture(wlansec.wpapersharekey)WPA Personal" selected. When I set this up 6 months ago, I don't recall if I selected that and thought the docs were misprinted - or what.
I didn't bother to have my father tell me what the other choices were as I was perplexed and thought that since it says "WPA Personal" everything is normal (and since wireless connectivity works, it seems he is, in fact, using WPA). But is this setting normal? I cannnot find out any information about this setting in the docs, on this forum, google, etc. Even linksys phone support did not know. All documentation says to select "WPA Personal". Is this the same thing? Is what I'm seeing a setting in the older firmware maybe? Note - we have not upgraded firmware since the router was bought 6 months ago (lazyness).
    The client is a mac.
    Thanks

it is really normal for your router's interface to display that script of "Capture(wlansec.wpapersharekey)WPA Personal" when you are viewing that on a MAC computer.. but on the windows  (xp, 2k, ME, 98, 95, etc), it'll disaplay the normal script...

  • Connecting to WPA personal

I setup a SMC WGBR14 to use WPA(personal) encryption. Somehow, it seems I've created a keychain with the wrong password, but I can't locate it in the keychain application. I can find the login for my old wireless router, but not the new one.
Thinking I had incorrectly setup the wireless portion of the router, I reset the router to default factory settings. While I could "see" the router thru Internet Connect, each time I select the router the connection fails and a msg appears that the connection failed (or some such).
I have setup a preferred network in Preferences/Network for the new network using the WPA log-in code.
The router is setup to use mixed modes (n, g & b).
The puzzling issue is I successfully setup an Aluminum PB 1.67mHz and it connects to the SMC router without a problem.

    I deleted:
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconnect.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.networkConnect.000a9567 6db0.plist
    as well as:
    com.apple.PrefPane.Network.000a958f7bd2.plist
    com.apple.PrefPane.Network.000a95676db0.plist
    com.apple.PrefPane.Network.000393c81662.plist
I am on my Third network name. I have tried default network name with no wireless protection.
I have used the Other option and when I did that, tagging the network as WPA(personal) I received a msg:
The wireless network "blah-blah" does not support the requested encryption method.<<</div>
Well, that's not right because another computer is using the setup router name, encryption method and password.
    I'm stuck!!!

  • Wpa/wpa2 password problems

I set up a brand new AE 802.11n with a 13 character WPA/WPA2 personal password.
I am able to connect to it with a new iMac with a new extreme n airport card.
I can also connect to a very old 400 Mhz Tiger imac with an old airport card which asks for a WPA2 password.
But when I try to connect with an iBook (1 GHz Panther) with an airport extreme card it presents me with 6 possible types of passwords:
    password (wants only 6 digits)
    40 bit HEX
    40 bit ascii
    128 bit HEX
    128 bit ascii
    LEAP
none of these accept the 13 digit password
Do I need to update some "client-side" software on the iBook so that the airport card understands about WPA2 passwords?

    An update -
I never got past this problem directly. I noticed a thread on the macintouch website reporting similar problems with old clients trying to connect to Airport Extremes.
However, I found a way around the problem. I took my old Snow airport base station which would have been gathering dust and used it as a router. The drawback is that I am using up one of the ethernet ports on the Extreme, but the good news (I think) is that the "b" airport card on the old imac is hidden behind the Snow base station and therefore is not slowing down the "n" network.
Hopefully this will help someone. I would like to note that I got some helpful advice from Duane in the Snow discussions in getting this solution working.

  • PowerBook G4 can't connect to WPA Personal network?

    Hi all,
I recently set up a wireless network in my apartment building. The router isn't AirPort (I know, but as soon as I have the money!). However, four of us (myself included) can get on the wireless network with no problem...that's two MacBooks on 10.4, and two PC laptops.
The fifth computer is the problem. Somewhere I read that 10.2 doesn't support WPA Personal networks, so I upgraded his computer to 10.4. Still, no dice on connecting to our wireless net.
    Here are his AirPort specs:
    Wireless Card Type: AirPort
    Wireless Card Locale: USA
    Wireless Card Firmware Version: 9.52
Is this the wrong firmware version? Where would I find the right one (browsing through the downloads, I could only find firmware updates for the base stations)? I've run all the OS updates and the one Airport update that appeared in the regular Software Updates screen.
Help! Any ideas? Should I give up on WPA Personal?

Oh geez, I can't even post to the right forum. Apologies!

  • Pc with windows xl/sp3 can't connect / acquire ip address from airport extreme; meanwhile, my macbook in connecting fine.  We have a wpa2 personal password

My husband's Dell with Windows xl (sp3) can't get an ip address from our new airport extreme.  Nor can my daughter's Windows 7 computer.  There are no firewalls in place.  Both computers worked with my old Airport, though it was sssslllllllowwww.  My Macbook works fine and is super fast compared to the old airport.  We are using a wpa2 personal password.
Anyone out there have a cure for this problem so we can hook up those sad pcs?
    Thanks a lot.
    Elizabeth

First, make sure that the new Airport is configured exactly the same as the old one. Hopefully you saved the configuration settings in a file and can look at them to be sure.
If the Windows PC's can't connect with the same password, it's possible that the PC's were using an older wifi protocol like 802.11a or b.  The new Airport is backwards compatible but has to be setup that way check to see what versions of 802.11a the windows computers support and make sure that the wireless mode of the airport is setup to accomodate them.
Can the PC's get an IP address if they are connected to the AirPort using an ethernet cable? If they can, that would help naorrow things down to a wireless issue and not some other configuration problem.

  • How does one enter their personal password in the dashed format required?

I am trying to log into my office imac remotely and cannot figure out how to input my "personal password" in the format provided.
How do you use the dashed display that only offers places to input a couple of letters?

  • Power Mac G3 Pismo with Airport wireless card in Mac OS X 10.4 won't connect to wireless network  with  newest Airport Extreme Base Station set at WPA Personal/WPA 2 Personal encryption.

My Power Book G3 Pismo with an Airport wireless card  running Mac OS X 10.4.11 will not connect to my new Airport
Extreme Base Station using WPA Personal/WPA 2 Person encryption.  The Airport firmware is version 9.52.  From
posts I've read online at different places indicates the Airport card should support the WPA encryption.  Perhaps the problem
is the Base Station is using a combination setting and the fault is in the base station?
    Thanks for any suggestions

Perhaps an inexpensive usb wireless adapter would work as well?
This is probably the simplest way to get the G3 connected to the wireless network.
I'll have to read up on getting an express and using it as a wireless bridge as I am unfamiliar with the concept.
The new AirPort Extreme is broadcasting a wireless signal.
A new AirPort Express could be located close to the G3. The Express will pick up the wireless signal from the AirPort Extreme, then provide an Ethernet connection to the G3 though a short Ethernet cable.
This can work very well......IF.....you keep the G3 at a fixed location, since it will always be connected to the AriPort Express using an Ethernet cable.
I do have an old Linksys Wireless G router.  I wonder if that would work?
In theory, yes. But it would have to use much older WEP "security", which is easily cracked in minutes using free tools available on the Internet. So, anyone who really wanted to get on the network could do so. It's an option, but not a very good one.

  • How can I get the airport drop down menu to allow me to enter a WPA2 Personal Password

Powerbook G4, with Airport Card firmware 9.52. Through the System Preferences, Network, using the "edit" button, I can enter a WPA2 Personal password, but when I go to connect to the network, the drop down menu only allows me to enter a WEP Password.  And, obviously, I get an error message saying I have the wrong password. Why can I use WPA2 in the system preferences, but the airport menu doesn't then allow me to enter a WPA2 password to connect?

Try Connect to Other... from the Airport menu.

  • PBG4 Linksys WRT54G WPA Personal

Before I sent in my PB G4 in for repairs (DC In Board) I had my Linksys setup with WPA Personal with tkip. I had requested that they test the Airport since it lost signal to the router twice in one day, don't know if they performed it as it didn't say in the work order that I received with my PB. When I got my PB back I could only get a signal with the security setting disabled, BTW I have SSID disabled. Whenever I try enabling WPA Personal I lose the signal to the router. While my PB was being repaired, I upgraded the router's firmware using my father's PC that is connected to the router. How can I enable WPA without losing signal to the router? I am not tech oriented, so please keep your suggestions simple for me to understand. Thank you in advance.

I have read all the problems with Linksys and PB/Airport connections problems. I had the same problem with THREE different Linksys Wireless routers with my PB. I thought for the price, where could I go wrong. I could have gone with NetGear, but the very first Router I had from Netgear was not a good experience (support was awful, and the language barrier was difficult to get through). Anyway to make a long story short, all Linksys Routers I had, the throughput speed would just steadily drop on from 2400 k/bps to a turtle slow 18 k/bps. I called my ISP to resolve the issue, but they could only check modem status, which always checked good. So calling time after time to linksys did nothing more than frustrate me more and more, because the only answers I ever got was unplug everything, and replug everything, change MTU, etc. etc. And time after time, it was the same thing. So after the third one, I took it back, got my refund and used that money to invest in Airport Extreme. And wouldn't you know it? I have not had to reset it once since I have gotten it, and I have not lost any speed nor/neither reception. For the price/frustration ratio, the Airport Extreme is an exceptionally good buy. I have to much to do, rather than sit on the phone with unsupportable support techs at Linksys. My two cents worth. I know I may be just one of those small few that may could have gotten a bad router, but three?

  • I can't download any apps on my iTunes account, I click 'free' type in password press okay and goes off and comes up with free again and doesn't download??

I can't download any free apps on my iTunes account, I click 'free' then type in my password, press okay and goes off and comes up with free again and doesn't download?? Someone help

    Hello _slothy_,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with the iTunes Store on your iPhone 5c.  For this issue, I recommend signing out and back into the iTunes Store on your iPhone:
Sign in with a different Apple ID
Tap Settings > iTunes & App Stores.
    Tap your Apple ID.
If you see the option to Sign In, you can change your Apple ID now.
    Tap Sign Out.
Enter your Apple ID and Password and tap Sign In.
You can find the full article here:
iOS: Sign in with a different Apple ID in the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBooks Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1311
If the issue persists after signing out and back in, I recommend quitting and relaunching the applications on your iPhone:
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
You can find the full article here:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
If you are still seeing the same issue after quitting and relaunching the iTunes Store app, I recommend restarting your phone and then resetting if it's still not working:
    How to restart
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device until the red slider appears. Then drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
    How to reset
You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
You can find the full article here:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset

  • Connection to WLan failed (WPA (2) Password)

    Good evening
We have got a MacBook Air since July and have been able to connect it to our privat WLan (running since years, connects 2 Iphones, 2 iPads, several Windows 7 machines and smartphones without a problem). Since this week I can't connect it to our WLan. The WPA (2) password has capital characters, small characters and numbers.
    - Is it still a problem to connect a MacBook to a WLan with WPA(2) password with capital characters? (found in different foren as solution for this problem some years ago)
    - Was there an update of the software that causes now problems?
Where can I find the operation system version? It is our first MacBook...
    Thanks a lot
    Matthias

IOS 5.1.1 should not have affected your WiFi connection, however, if you are now having problems try:
Try Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset network settings
