WPA.PSK security on Mac and encrytion key

I am trying to connect to a network at a new office.  They tell me to select WPA and enter the password to connect.  I think I am connecting to the router just fine but no internet.  Another user says he has settings like this -- Network - WPA.PSK and encryption - TKIP.  I am not finding any settings like this.
Can you help?
Thanks,

The firewall is already off... I guess we will need to get the admins involved that set up the network.  I have never been able to connect to a router with the incorrect password before.  But, it seems as though I can connect to it even if I try to modify the password to try different options.  It is very possible I have the wrong password - only because the owner knows nothing about networks/computers.
Thanks for your help!

There is no such Trojan or other malware known today that will do that using OS X nor has there ever been one. The most probable explanation is that somebody hacked into your e-mail account on the server, so you should change that password to something stronger right away. If it had come from your Mac then there would almost certainly be copies of those messages in your Sent Mail mailbox.

  • Clash of Mac and Logic Key Command Assignments

    Greetings to all
    I use a Mac Powerbook G4 laptop 15" Model 5,8
In Logic I have keys F9-F12 programmed as the slow and fast rewind forward and back ( ie 4 commands in all)
The Mac factory programmed short cuts, F11 and F12 are usually used for Expose/Mac functions but are reprogrammable, so I went into System Preferences/Keyboard and reprogrammed them as OPTION F11 and F12 for Mac functions.
This then allowed me to use F11 and F12 for the dedicated Logic function.
However, Apple System Preferences for some reason does not 'remember' the reprogrammed keyboard short cut ... which means that each time I boot up Logic, I have to go into System Preferences and reprogramme the short cuts in Apple again.
    Can anyone suggest a solution?

    Hi
Sounds like you are still using the (old) Logic 8 (?) key commands. Zoom was changed in the Logic 9 defaults to Control+Option and the arrow keys.
Control Arrow L/R controls Mission Control in Lion (ie 'Spaces').
You could change the defaults in System Preferences:

  • USB flash drive security on mac and windows

    Hi
I've got an USB flash drive and I would like to secure it so that data on it will not be accessible unless a password is provided.
The point is that I need to use it on both my macbook with tiger OS and on another PC with windows XP.
The USB flash drive is a sandisk cruzer titanium that comes with U3. Originally I was using an U3 protection that asks for a password when the flash drive is plugged in.
U3 is not supported by MAC so I had to disable the password protection to use it on my brand new macbook.
    Appreciate any help
    Thanks, Ste
    macbook c2d   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You will be able to open it if you make it a .iso
image. There is software available for both OSes to
open and browse/modify a .iso image file. I do not
know how well any of them use passwords for the
    images.
    Maybe it's winiso
What I would recommend is using Winrar
(http://www.rarlabs.com/) and just using a compresses
and encrypted file that both OS's can manipulate.
With winrar you create an archive and then each time you want to edit a file you have to extract it, modify it and then reinsert it in the archive.
What I was looking for is something more user friendly.
Images created with mac, protected with a password, are ok but are not compatible with windows.
Viceversa, U3 is compatible with windows but not mac ...

  • 1130 WPA-PSK Radius Mac Authentication

I am trying to get our Cisco 1130 AP's to use Radius MAC Authentication using a freeradius server. We have been successful with other AP's (Proxim, Netgear) but haven't been able to get the Cisco 1130 to work.
I have attached 2 files. One is the running config, and the other is a debug of radius.
This is what the freeradius log says.
    Thu Nov 6 02:48:46 2008 : Auth: Login OK: [004096a3e012/004096a3e012] (from client 10.80.0.17 port 291 cli 00-40-96-A3-E0-12)
I would appreciate any help that anyone is willing to give.

Use the wpa-psk SSID interface configuration command to configure a pre-shared key for use in WPA authenticated key management. To support WPA on a wireless LAN where 802.1x-based authentication is not available, you must configure a pre-shared key for the SSID.
    wpa-psk { hex | ascii } [ 0 | 7 ] encryption-key
but make sure that This command is not supported on bridges.

  • Apple TV update doesn't like WPA-PSK

Got an Apple TV for Christmas and after running the update it will no longer connect to the Internet wirelessly. It gets an IP address and is on my local area network but does not connect to the Internet. If I disable WPA – PSK security on my router ATV works fine. It will also connect to a mobile hotspot. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what are you doing about it? I see lots of posts where the update ruined wireless connectivity completely but my problem seems to be with WPA PSK. Everything worked great prior to the update which I finally went ahead and did because of the annoying update message that kept popping up. Now I wish I hadn't done it. As far as troubleshooting goes I have connected ATV to iTunes  and restored but that just puts the latest version back on it and I'm still in the same boat. I'm debating whether to drive over an hour to the Apple Store and try to exchange it or just wait on an update. If I wait on another update and the problem still isn't resolved then I have no warranty. The issue seems to be with the update not the unit itself.

I just posted this a few minutes ago with a similar problem.
How do you view tv or movie playlists created in iTunes on Apple TV?
You said you just updated your Apple TV so I assume that you have a 3rd generation Apple TV?  I have a 2nd generation Apple TV but I never have created a tv or movie playlist so I'm not sure if I was doing something wrong.  It's starting to sound more like an iTunes glitch.

  • WPA-PSK wireless not accepting password

For some reason I can't seem to connect to one in particular wireless internet router- It is using WPA-PSK security, and airport is telling me that I have an incorrect password although I am positive it is the correct one. I friend of mine determined that the router's security settings should be allowing me in, that it is most likely my computer that is the bad link- Please offer any suggestions!

    I have the same problem.
I spent 2 hours talking with the apple support and the problem was not solved for WPA-PSK. The told me that they have a problem with many other people.
I have read a lot of forums and finally I found mend for Tiger that olso works in my Leopard. I change the password of my router to one in lower-case and it works. Yes! It is shoddy piece of work.
But in my university that I have WPA-PSK Enterprise don't works even if I change my authentication password to one in lower-case.

I have a 3rd generation iPod Touch and just did the update to IOS 5. Now I can't connect to my Netgear wifi router. My iPhone connects fine along with all of my other laptops etc. I have the router set with WPA-PSK [TKIP] security and an access list. I've confirmed the mac address is included on that list and that the password is correct. Under choses netwrok I select the network and it just goes into a spin. I have tried removing the password and the access list settings and it still will not complete the connection to the router thus no internet access. The routers firmware is also up to date. This thing worked fine before this update and I've already tried to restore from backup. Any ideas or is the wifi nic bad in this thing with the new apple firmware update? Any fix?

Thanks Bob, I don't know why but it all of a sudden worked a few days later. It's a mystery but at least problem solved.

  • 5800 XM WPA-PSK and network profiles problem

    Hi,
I've just purchased a 5800XM phone, with the idea of setting up my personal email account on the device, using my office's network access point.
The access point / router is a Comtrend 5361. The SSID is set to hidden (no broadcast), and the security is set to WPA-PSK (pre-shared key).
On the Nokia phone I go to 'Settings -> Connectivity -> Wireless LAN' and choose 'Other (hidden netw.)'.
Then I choose 'Connect', set the WLAN network name, the phone shows a message 'No WLAN network found', but then prompts to choose network mode (Infrastructure - Hidden),  and then password. It connects succesfully and asks for storing the network profile under offline mode, I tell it to do so, and the new profile appears under 'Network destinations -> Internet'. So until now everything seems ok.
The problem is that after the phone disconnects from the internet, the stored profile seems to be useless, since the phone never connects automatically even if the AP is available and always shows 'Search for WLAN'. In the list the hidden access point never shows up so the only choice is repeating the steps that I mentioned above, creating a new profile every time I want to surt the net.
Is there a solution to this, or a third party software that can do the trick?, I have OS V21.0.25, custom version 21.0.025.219.06 from Vodafone, no updates available as of today, but I've tested it with a phone that has the latest OS v30 and it shows the same behavior.
I can't change the access point settings, so I must stick to WPA and hidden SSID, so for me this is almost a deal breaker.

Ok, I was testing the wifi part without a sim card inserted, with a sim, the phone connects to the profile properly, but without the sim it has an odd behavior, not loading the profile and wrongly stating that it can't connect when it does (but disconnects randomly).
So the problem is that wireless lan management doesn't work properly without a sim card.

  • WPA PSK doesn't work with MAC Authentication. AP1231G

Hi, yesterday I've installed an Aironet Access Point 1200 series AP1231G for the first time.
I'd like to use MAC Authentication with an WPA Pre-Shared Key. But it doesn't work. If I choose "Open Authentication with MAC Authentication", I can't type an WPA Pre-Shared Key. The system doesn't keep it.
It only works with "Open Authentication" without MAC-Filter.
    Settings:
    Encryption Manager: TKIP
    SSID Manager
    1. Client Authentication: Open Authentication with MAC Authentication
    2. Key Managemnet: Mandatory WPA + WPA Pre-Shared-Key
If I type in a Pre-Shared-Key and click on "Apply", the Pre-Shared-Key get loss.

    Tina,
In Cisco IOS releases 12.3(4)JA and later, you cannot enable both MAC-address authentication and WPA-PSK.

  • Guest Access - Layer 2 security WPA PSK - Layer 3 security web auth

I am not able to test this.
Has anybody configured the CUWN guest access with WPA PSK layer 2 and Web authentication layer 3
If so are there any problems that I should expect
    Mark

    Mark,
I have setup wireless in two other compainies related to Rail... The biggest issue will be who will support the guest users and will they take the responsibility. Their security team didn't want that and were fine with tunneling the users to either a dmz or seperate Internet connection. Will dhco release the address... Not right away. You can play around with the lease tim and see if your laptop keeps getting the same address or one higher. If the isue is with dhco being used up from association, then don't broadcast the ssid and have the receptionist hand out the ssid with username and password. My clients use a default username and passowrd but changes that every week. They seem to prefer that over changing it every day or have a username passeor for every guest user. They use wcs to print out the guest credentials. Again, the network team has the recepionist doing this, so they made sure that they are not making too much extra work for them or else they would have to be responsible for guest users.
    Hope this helps.

  • WPA-PSK for Outdoor P2P: What's about broadcat-key?

    Hello
It is recommend to change broadcast key when I use WPA-PSK? If yes, which value in seconds is recommend?
    encryption mode ciphers tkip
    broadcast-key change XXX
    any input is very welcome

I suggest you to do enable broadcast key rotation. It really depends on the amount of broadcast/multicast traffic. If you use broadcast and multicast traffic alot, I suggest you to configure slightly less than 2 hours. If not, 10 hours is good enough.

  • Found iPad 2 solution for WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK

My security setting is WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK on my modem/wirless router with Time Warner Cable. IPad does not have an option to select this security setting when attempting to connect to a WiFi network. I could connect my iPad by WiFi on some ocassions (selecting WPA or WEP on the iPad). However, I would lose connection after about 5-10 minutes.  I have been having this problem for about 3 months. I spent a couple of hours on the phone yesterday with Time Warner and we think we "stumbled across" the fix (instead of actually knowing we found it).  The tech noticed that the setup on the Time Warner modem/wireless router had the box for Active WPS checked. After the Time Warner tech unchecked Active WPS within the router's setup, the iPad starting picking up the WiFi signal. The iPad has now functioned for a full 24 hours without a problem or shutdown!
Please alert your techs and post this info on your website. When I talked with Apple techs in the past, they had no known solution to this situation and said that Apple simply did not support WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK. The Time Warner tech also said that "he thinks" (but isn't sure) Apple's designation of WPA Enterprise equates to what others call the "old WPA" (or simply WPA) and what Apple calls WPA, others actually refer to as WPA-PSK (the newer WPA).

Hope you found a solution before now, but if not, try this:
Go into Settings, click on Wi-Fi and pick "Other" in the Network section.
Type your Network name in the name field (Caps do seem to matter), click on security and check WPA2.
Click the "Other Network" button to go back, input your password, click "Join".
You should now be good to go.

  • Regenerate the security files : SecStore.properties and SecStore.key

    Hello Expert,
I have a big issue because I lost the both files : SecStore.properties and SecStore.key from the directory /sapmnt/SID/global/security/data. I tried to regenerate the SecStore.properties  from another instance. And when I tried to connect via Configtool I have the following error message : The encryption key (usually in the key files) is
not  the key that is required to decrypt the data in the secure store file or the system name is wrong (SID).
I think that the idea is to generate the new key file.
Could you please help me to find a solution to solve this issue.
Many thanks in advance for your greatfull help.

  • How do I identify the latest file modifications, application install, and registry key modification for Security Forensics.... using GP Audit for registry/file system

    Hello,
Title pretty much states it all. I initially set out (as part of a Security Forensics initiative) to identify the most recently installed applications, modified files, and registry key changes using PowerShell. I attempted to pull this information and sort
them by date installed/last modified, but it was brought to my attention this information isn't always present and can be modified - so it's not accurate.
At that time it was suggested we use Group Policy auditing for Registry and File System -  but I'm not sure how I'm going to use/pull these in PowerShell? This will be used on remote host all over the world so local physical access isn't an option.
    My question is:
Once Group Policy Auditing for Registry and File System has been enabled, how would I go about pulling those audit logs for review once a system has been identified as compromised? I'm brand new to this GP Auditing (we have a separate team for that) so feel
free to take it from the beginning. :)
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Here are a few suggestions for you:
Ensure Remote Registry service is started on local and remote machines.
Add the – Credential option and supply administrative credentials within the command.
