WPA/WPA2 not an option in encryption type, only WEP

Can anyone please let me know how to get my Airport Extreme card to connect to my WiFi router using WPA2? So far, when I select my network, the only encryption options I can select when it prompts me to enter a password are all WEP encryption types, and LEAP. How do I get it to offer WPA2 as an option for the encryption?
Thanks!
Mike

I had to rename my network and update software for the airport extreme.

  • WPA, WPA2 not working, only WEP.

    Hi everyone,
First off i'd like to say that i've done alot of searching and cannot for the life of me figure out why i can't configure my router to have working WPA or WPA2 security, only WEP seems to be a working option. Up until today i've had a WEP key, but feel WPA or WPA2 would be more secure, as I live on campus at a university. I have a D-Link DI-624 router, and am running 10.6.4. I tried both DHCP and manually entering IP addresses, but it all comes down to the fact that i keep getting either "Airport has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet." or ""Airport does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the internet." Usually when I can get it to connect after trying over and over, the airport will give me either of these messages and results in 169.254. . being the assigned IP address causing the conflict. I will answer any questions necessary to resolving my conflict. Any help is appreciated.

It appears the firmware update is a temporary fix, as the router will keep working for a while, but every so often it will just connect to my wpa2 security enabled network, but will only give me the "no ip address" message or the other message that indicates i can't connect to the internet. my fix to this is to simply reset the router with the pin-sized button in the back, thus having to re-create the network and add all the details again. anyway i was wondering if any one could offer any more insight on this problem. it is very frustrating to keep resetting the router every two days just to connect to the internet. any help is appreciated.

  • Tip on using US Robotics Modem (WPA/WPA2 not supported)

    Dear all,
As I can see from the discussions many of us have gone through the pain of installing Time Capsule wishing we had instead bought a good hard disk.
I have a US Robotics MaxG which serves as a router and I plan to put the time machine in a different room away as well from my MacBook Pro. I mean after all that is the point of wireless (not havig to connect the time capsule to the US Robotics modem).
Unfortunately, I managed to isolate a problem and found a workaround to it. It seems that Time Capsule does not like WPA2/WPA passwords.
So what you need to do is to use instead WPA2 encryption with TKIP and AES selected.
    Thanks and good luck,
    Sergio

    Dear jdimstrnate,
Based on your description both the AUX port and the modem are not configured correctly. You can find detailed instructions for this setup in the following link from Cisco:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk801/tk36/technologies_tech_note09186a0080094bbc.shtml
In summary, the AUX port needs to be set at a speed of 115200 and the modem must be configured with AT&F1S0=1&W.
If you need further assistance please feel free to contact our technical support line, 1-888-216-2850. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST. You can also contact us by email using our online email form from the following link:

    I hope this helps.

May i know the reason of such implementation?
You can use group code and valuation code for assigning predefined values to measuring documents.
Moreover text field can be used for assigning short text to it.

  • Wireless Networking - unable to select an encryption type for WPA/WPA2

I recently upgraded to 10.5.3 and didn't notice until now that Network preferences no longer provides an option for specifying the encryption method (TKIP or AES-CMP) for a new wireless network? I don't recall ever having had this issue before. Is this new to 10.5.3 or has this been a recognized problem prior to 10.5.3? I can only select from WPA Personal or Enterprise, WPA2 Personal or Enterprise (ignoring the WEP options here).
Is there another area of the OS that I can modify to change the encryption type?
    This is weird...

While I was able to get WEP to work, it would only switch to WEP for both bands, and I wasn't too excited about this option. So to max out security, what I did was keep my dual band Airport Extreme running on WPA2 (5GHz N-only for all my Mac equipment; a wireless G for ipod touch). I then bought a linksys/cisco WRT54G2 for about $40 new from Amazon, and connected it with ethernet to the Airport Extreme base. Took a little fiddling to get it to behave as a bridge (can describe for you how I did this if you go down this route). But most importantly, maxed out security for WEP on this device by not broadcasting the SSID (don't on my other network either), having a very obscure SSID name (think strong password), set an equally obscure random password of all character types, setup up MAC filter so it could only be connected to my Pronto (and one of my notebooks for configuration). Also run it on a different 2.4ghz channel than the Airport Extreme to minimize conflict. Copied the info over to the Pronto config program (I use bootcamp to do this on my notebook), and everything works great. I do wish Apple gave us complete control over both bands (like the level of config I've done here), but the solution here was still pretty clean. My understanding is that Philips is planning to add WPA/WPA2 to Pronto capability by year-end (the connect/re-connect times are slower and they didn't want their products taking a performance hit, but I'd happily wait an extra second or two after picking up the remote to not expose my network via WEP). Hope that helps, but probably not what you wanted to hear. I found it a fairly quick and inexpensive workaround for now.

Original Title: TKIP selection in WiFi network settings
I have a workplace WiFi connection using WPA2 PSK authentication and encryption type TKIP.
On the machine I used to test Windows 10, I had a previous installation of Windows 7 professional which connected to my workplace WiFi using the above settings. After installing Windows 10, my workplace wifi settings were imported and worked fine.
Windows 10 had a system crash, and since I had deleted my previous windows installation, I performed a complete reinstall of Windows 7. However, when I went to install Windows 10 again, I had not taken the time to set up my workplace Wifi on Windows
7 before installing Windows 10. As a result, I had to set up my workplace wifi as a new connection in Windows 10.
When going to set up the wifi connection, the encryption type was grayed out, but appeared to default to AES. Searching the internet suggested that Windows 8.1 did not need a encryption type selected, because Windows could automatically determine
if it was TKIP or AES, hence why the option to select encryption type was grayed out. However, after completing the setup of my workplace wifi, Windows 10 could not connect to my workplace wifi. After restoring Windows 7 with a factory reset, and setting up
the workplace wifi (the encryption type selection was not grayed out and I manually selected TKIP encryption), my workplace wifi was working again.

, and why handleDisassoc function is called with reason=15?

Mifrett, don't panic. I'm here to assist you. It sounds like the software update may be conflicting with the software of the applications that were previously downloaded to your device. I recommend that you uninstall a few applications in Settings>Manage Apps> tap the app>tap uninstall application. Once you have uninstalled a few applications, power your device off/on. You may redownload the applications that you previously had. However, this time, the applications will be downloaded to your phone with the latest app software. I trust that these steps will improve the performance of your device. Keep us posted. We're here for you.

  • WPA/WPA2 encryption for (WiFi) Ad-hoc?

Is there any Apps that can create WPA/WPA2 encryption for (WiFi) Ad-hoc connection beside default WEP? I'm aware that WEP is not as good as WPA/WPA2 encryption......... i'm using my neighbours WiFi connection for free...

If you want WPA, then your key_mgmt and pairwise are definitely wrong. I'd say don't set key_mgmt, pairwise and group at all, the defaults are ok.

  • Xbox live not working in WPA/WPA2 personal mode.

Xbox Live is not working in WPA/WPA2 personal mode. It does, however, work in WEP mode. I have 2 windows laptops on my wireless network. when I am on WEP, the laptop is stuck in a perpetual "Acquiring Network Address" state. When I have WPA/WPA2 enabled, my laptops work fine, but xbox live cuts in and out of detecting my network, and I cant even get close to connecting at all.
So until I figure this out, I have to choose between WEP (xbox live working, and not PCs) WPA(PCs working, not xbox live) or unsecured (risky). what should I do?

Thats strange topcat, i have exactly the same problem as you except that when i am in WEP encryption my xbox cant even see the extreme on the network and i cant even get it it to connect at all. In WPA mode the xbox sees the network but will not connect. I have rang xbox and they say that it should work and that the problem lies with Apple, although i dont believe this personally. In the meantime ive had to hardwire the xbox to the router which isnt why i bought the router. Disappointed

  • WVC54GCA Missing WPA/WPA2 security options in web interface

I just got a WVC54GCA and found out that there are some missing configuration options in the wireless settings:
    On the cameras web interface:
web interface > Basic : Wireless Settings > [ Edit Security Settings ] > Security Mode:
the dropdown gives me only two options: Disable and WEP, but no WPA, WPA2!
I upgraded to the latest firmware (1.1.00 build 02), but the problem remains.
Tried different browsers (Firefox 3.5, IE8) with the same result.
Is this a firmware bug?  A faulty device? Anyone else having the same issue?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Try to clear the Browser settings of your IE and then try to login to the setup page of your Camera, and check if you are able to find that options.... If still unable to find WPA/WPA2 Option on your camera, Press and hold the reset button for 60 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your camera, wait for 60 seconds and re-connect the power cable....
Now check if you are able to find that options... If still not then i think it might be the problem with the Camera...  I think you need to replace your Camera.

  • WPA/WPA2 PSK NOT SUPPORTED?

I'm trying to join a router with WPA/WPA2 PSK, but for some reason NONE of my iOS devices will join it. Not my iPad 3, nor iPhone 5S, all running iOS 8.1.1.
My MacBook Pro running Yosemite has no problem connecting. So does iOS 8, nor iPhones and iPads support this recommended security standard? Or is there a trick to it I'm not getting?

Restart the router & also check for a firmware update for it.
If neither of those helps, try temporarily removing the password from the router to see if your iOS devices will connect.

  • HT2534 I already made an accoount, so how can I change it so that I do not have to choose a type of credit card. Cause it does not give me the option of NONE

I already made an accoount, so how can I change it so that I do not have to choose a type of credit card. Cause it does not give me the option of NONE

Did you follow the instructions on that page exactly ? The instructions work for me e.g. selecting a free app in the App Store app and tapping on 'free', then 'install app' and 'create new apple id' - filling in my details then gave a 'none' option on the payment details :
