WPA, WPA2 not working, only WEP.

Hi everyone,
First off i'd like to say that i've done alot of searching and cannot for the life of me figure out why i can't configure my router to have working WPA or WPA2 security, only WEP seems to be a working option. Up until today i've had a WEP key, but feel WPA or WPA2 would be more secure, as I live on campus at a university. I have a D-Link DI-624 router, and am running 10.6.4. I tried both DHCP and manually entering IP addresses, but it all comes down to the fact that i keep getting either "Airport has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet." or ""Airport does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the internet." Usually when I can get it to connect after trying over and over, the airport will give me either of these messages and results in 169.254. . being the assigned IP address causing the conflict. I will answer any questions necessary to resolving my conflict. Any help is appreciated.

It appears the firmware update is a temporary fix, as the router will keep working for a while, but every so often it will just connect to my wpa2 security enabled network, but will only give me the "no ip address" message or the other message that indicates i can't connect to the internet. my fix to this is to simply reset the router with the pin-sized button in the back, thus having to re-create the network and add all the details again. anyway i was wondering if any one could offer any more insight on this problem. it is very frustrating to keep resetting the router every two days just to connect to the internet. any help is appreciated.

    I've read most of the post on "i chat not working"; but has anyone had it to not work only to one individual. This is my case. I can video i chat with my son in FWB FL. with no problem. He has an Apple also. I can take my laptop to his location and video i chat with my sister-in-law in Jefferson Ga. But, I cannot video i chat with my sister-in-law from my location, Valrico, Fl. to her location in Jefferson Ga. I have had a 3 way phone conversation going with Apple, My internet provider and her internet provider and no one can solve the problem. Does anyone have any assistance they can provide.     More often than not this is about the way a modem or router or combo at either end use NAT.
    NAT is Network Address Translation.
    It is the way a device shares an Internet connection with several devices/computers.
    However NAT means different things to different devices and not all devices therefore are doing what is called NAT the same way.

    So what you may have is a device at either end that does not or will not play nicely with another device.
    This can be particularly the case if the device has to use Port Forwarding or Port Triggering or is using the DMZ to open ports.
    Using UPnP reduces the problem in many cases.

    Telling us what devices in the way of Modems and routers each end is using may help us pint to what can be changed.
    Makes and models please with what they are doing to open the ports for iChat.
    As Defcom has pointed out with certain connection it can be the Speed difference in the Internet connection both up and down that can be a factor.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Iphone4 - MIC not working only on phone call, But in recording MIC works good

    My iPhone4 was working last 10 months till last week. it is bought from outside UAE and am Living in UAE
    When I make a call  , I can hear them clearly , but other side cant hear me.
    I think iphone MIC is broken, but fortunately I tried recording for 10 minutes, it is working perfectly. I felt hardware working properly
    Then I think it is software Issuebut,
    When I detected the issue software version was 4.3.3, And Then I updated software to 4.3.4. Still the issue remains.
    I tried several time restarting. No advantage
    After all I deleted all my content by resetting from phone and iTunes, bothways.
    Now my phone content looks like new iPhone and software is 4.3.4 and
    Still the MIC not working only on a phone call
    Unbelievable.
    I went to more than 3 apple dealers in Dubai, like istore,protech.. All they refused service for iPhone.
    They dont have service for iPhone, but they selling and are autherized reseller,
    My phone still under warranty.
    Do I get warrenty covering, or atleast it is serviced?
    Or could you have any trick to get it worked

    I would try:
    - Resetting the iPod:
    Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
    button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings>Safari and delete cache, history and cookies.

    If this computer has a removable battery, take it out and see if the battery is swelling. If that is the case, try running the computer without the battery on just the charger, to check if the swelling is the cause.
    If the computer does not have a removable battey, the best you can do is examine the underside for signs of a swelling battery.

    I have configured wicd using the wiki, and checked the steps several times... but only works when the wifi router is set to no encryption...
    If I use wep or wpa wpa2 it just keeps handshaking and never connects...
    any idea?

  • Wep key and wpa does not work.

    I'm trying to set up security for my router using wep or wpa but everytime I set it up, my key does not work. The router is suddenly disabled. I did exactly as the how to setup wireless security said. do u have to hard reset to get it to work. I've been trying to set security for three days. Your help is appreciated.

    First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal. 
    For WEP, you must enter WEP "key 1"  (found in the router) into your computer, not the WEP password or passphrase.
    For WPA or WPA2, enter the key (sometimes called password or passphrase) into your computer.
    Note that for WPA or WPA2, use "personal", not "enterprise".
    Also, nomenclature sometimes causes problems.  Note the following:
    WPA   =  WPA with TKIP  =  PSK
    WPA2  =  WPA with AES  =  PSK2
    Also note that Windows XP requires SP3 to run WPA2  ( = WPA with AES).
    Also, each time you try a new encryption method, you must remove old settings from your computer.  To do this, do the following: 
    In the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use.   Delete your current network (this will remove any old settings).  Reboot computer.  Return to "Preferred Networks" and re-enter your current network info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".  Reboot computer.  You should connect automatically (it can take up to two minutes).  If you still have trouble, in the computer, temporarily turn off your computer software firewall, and see if that helps.
    If the above does not fix your problem, download and install the latest driver for your wireless card.

    So got an Xbox 360 slim and if I try to connect to route with WPA2 if fails. If I change to WPA or set up a second SSID with WPA it connects and works fine.
    If I connect Xbox to another router with WPA2 it works fine.
    Same results picking AES or TKIP for security type.
    Anyone else have this issue or is this a known problem and can it be fixed?
    The xbox is used in a break room and really don't like the fact that I need to have another ssid and it be less secure, esp as WPA2 has been out long enough this shouldn't be an issue. I test 4 other routers and WPA2 and xbox all work fine but not this one but this is the one I have to use due to feature needs.

    I can confirm this issue as well.  My router is only a few feet from the Xbox, so there's definitely no signal problem.  When I try to connect it prompts me for the key and recognizes that the encryption scheme is WPA2 and says as much on the screen.  I have tried changing the channels (just to be thorough) and changed the key to abcdefghi just to make sure it's not an issue with symbols.  I have rebooted both devices several times and changed every relevant setting I could think of.  It will not associate with the AP.
    It connects fine if I switch to WPA but refuses to connect using WPA2.  I took it to a friend's house and it connected fine to his WPA2 network.  What gives?
    WRVS4400N firmware: 2.0.2.1 (although I tried with 2.0.1.3 first)

    There is no option to sort based on Key figure, you can only sort the report by charateristics. The only way sorting could be done to show Top n or bottom N condition.
