WPA/WPA2 secured wireless connection fails for two minurtes for every hour of use.

Hello.
I have a brand new ThinkPad T500 2055-A16 with Windows Vista Business. I have a WiFi connection problem. It is not a signal strength problem, as it doesn't work even if I place the computer right next to the access point with no other wireless equipment near by.
None of my other computers experience this problem. I even bought another ThinkPad T500 2055-A16 at the same time as this one, and that does not have the problem either. The problem is when I connect to a network using WPA2-PSK or WPA-PSK. The connection works fine for half an hour, an hour or two hours, but then without warning, the connection is lost and it is not possible to reconnect for half a minute, a minute or two minutes. The exact times vary. When I switch the network to use WEP or no encryption, everything works fine. But I don't like to use no encryption and I cannot use WEP because I have other computers in my home which does not support WEP.
I had this problem right from the beginning the first time I used the computer. I have tried many things like disabling power management or IPv6 and other things suggested by my ISP, but it did not change anything, so I switched them back to their default value. I have also tried to update the driver for the Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN card, but that didn't help the problem. The problem became slightly less annoying when I uninstalled Access Connections, because Vista would then reconnect as soon as it could, whereas I in Access Connections would have to continuously press the connect button until it succeeded. But the problem is still a real pain.
Some pieces from the Windows Event Viewer, which I think looks interesting (these occur regularly at exactly the same timestamps as when the connection is lost):
 Profile match: Success
 Pre-Association: Success
 Association: Success
 Security and Authentication: Fail
0x00048005 and 0x0003800b
Result of diagnosis: Problem found
 Issue referred to: L2Sec Helper Class
I also see the following message on my access point's log, which also occur at exactly the times when the connection is lost:
1x:00216b4d7ee6:logout
(The number match the MAC address of my computer)
The only other message which is logged on my Access Point when all log options are enabled is "Time initialized by NTP server".
How can I solve this problem so that I can have undisrupted wireless Internet access?

Edit: Actually my other ThinkPad T500 2055-A16 also fails in the same way, but my ThinkPad SL500 2746-9BG and my Medion laptops works fine, also running Vista.

  • [Solved] Trouble with WPA/WPA2 and wireless connections (ath9k)

    Hi, I'm having some issues with my Arch install. Right now I'm posting this from Windows so I don't have precise logs, but I mostly remember the issue so bare with me.
    I'm using ath9k with my Bigfoot Killer 1202 card (not sure what the exact model is), and I can't connect to my university's WPA/WPA2 access point. Using wpa_supplicant I get the error "4-way handshake failed - pre-shared key may be incorrect".
    So after some digging I found that I can get it to authenticate with nohwcrypt=1, but when I rmmod ath9k && modprobe ath9k nohwcrypt=1 it enumerates itself as wlan0 (instead of wlp3s0, which is what I get from booting up).
    Then I made the file /etc/modprobe.d/ath9k with the contents "options ath9k nohwcrypt=1" but it seems to still not want to connect until I rmmod && modprobe manually.
    Can someone point me in the right direction on how to fix this issue? I haven't used Arch in a few years and a lot of things have changed, and so far it seems nothing works as I expect it to. Also, how do I get my wifi card to enumerate as the same device no matter when I load ath9k? I don't care if it's called wlan0 or wlp3s0, I just want it to stay the same.

    Update: It seems to work ONLY when I rmmod && modprobe; if I force nohwcrypt=1 at boot it doesn't seem to work. Seems kind of odd... Wonder if this is a kernel issue?
    Edit: Also updated with dmesg (because I'm an idiot and forgot to include it)

    Edit: I ended up solving my problem -- the issue I was running into was that ath9k was baked into my initrd without nohwcrypt=1. I opted to `mkinitcpio` again without MODULES='ath9k' -- alternatively, you could add a modprobe.d file to FILES= to get it to work, but I just figured this is simpler.

    I have a nokia 808 pureview with BELLE FP2. However i am not able to connect to WPA/WPA2 secured wifi connection in my college. It should ask for a username and password for authentication but it simply tries to connect automatically and does not connect saying authenticaton failed. Please help me over the issue.

    I have gone to this website almost everyday for years and I have not changed anything in my internet settings, but now I'm getting this message: secure connection failed: The Certifying Authority for this certificate is not permitted to issue a certificate with this name. (Error code: sec_error_cert_not_in_name_space) The only thing I KNOW I did differently, was I installed a CAC reader to my computer, since then, this has been happening. Is there a setting I can change?? E-mail is: [email protected] Thanks! Megan

    There were recently several users getting this error code who use AVAST 2015. If you recently got that program, please see:

  • Secure Wireless Connection

    I have been thinking about getting the iPhone ever since it came out and I guess I was wondering if anyone could answer whether or not it can connect to secure wireless connections that require a password. I am a college student and we have wireless throughout campus but it requires my student id and password to be typed in if it were used on a computer. Thanks for any information.

    I have the same problem. I can easily access wireless networks everywhere except at work (a college also). Our system requires both a user name and password. Laptops easily access the network but I can't log on with my iphone. It is a real bummer because our campus has thick old brick buildings and edge will not penetrate them meaning that I am dead in the water without wireless. BTW network wireless at the college is the only thing that I don't have working flawlessly on the iphone. I had two of out best IT guys mess with my iphone for a couple of hours and they said that unless apple gives a fix that allow for both a user name and pass work when logging in that they can't help me. ANYONE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE?

  • [SOLVED] Wireless connection fails after upgrade to dhcpcd 6.2.1

    After upgrade of dhcpcd 6.1.0  to 6.2.1 three days ago (pacman -Syu) my wireless connection fails: deauthenticating from ... by local choice (reason=3)

    Downgrade to dhcpcd 6.1.0 heals the problem.
    # dhcpcd --version
    dhcpcd 6.1.0
    Copyright (c) 2006-2013 Roy Marples
    In case it is related to ath9k:
    # modinfo ath9k
    filename:
    /lib/modules/3.12.9-2-ARCH/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath9k/ath9k.ko.gz
    I couldn't find a bug report on neither dhcpcd nor ath9k.
    Any idea what I can do to follow up on this?

  • Do we need to create two zones for Two HBA for a host connected with SAN ?

    Hi,While creating Zone , Do we need to create two zones for Two HBA for a host connected with SAN ? Or a zone is enough for
    a host which having Two HBAs...We have two 9124s for our SAN fabric...
    As I found like one zone  below, I little bit confused that , if a host having two HBA connected with SAN, should I expect two zones for every Host?
    from the zone set, I gave the command show zoneset
    zone name SQLSVR-X-NNN_CX4 vsan 1
        pwwn 50:06:NN:NN:NN:NN:NN:NN
        pwwn 50:06:NN:NN:NN:NN:NN:NN
              pwwn 10:00:NN:NN:NN:NN:NN:NN
    But I found only one zone for the server's HBA2:by the same time in the fabric I found switches A & B showing the WWNs of those HBAs on its
    connected N port...Its not only for this server alone, but for all hosts..Can you help me to clarify on this please..that should we need to create one zone for
    one HBA?

    if u have two independent fabrics between hosts and storage, i think the below confs are recommended.
    Scenario 1:  2 HBAs single port each ( redundancy across HBA / Storage port )
    HBA1 - port 0 ---------> Fabric A ----------> Storage port ( FAx/CLx )
    HBA2 - port 0 ---------> Fabirc B ----------> Storage port ( FAy/CLy )
    Scenario 2: 2 HBAs of dual port each
    HBA1 - port 0 -------> Fabric A ---------> Storage port ( FAx/CLx )
    HBA2 - port0 ---------> Fabric A ---------> Storage port ( FAs/CLs )
    HBA1 - port 1 --------> Fabric A --------> Storage port ( FAy/CLy )
    HBA2 - port 1 ---------> Fabric B --------> Storage port ( FAt/CLt )
    the zone which is in your output is VSAN 1. if its a production VSAN, Cisco doesn't recomends to use VSAN 1 ( default vsan ) for production.

  • Secured wireless connection

    I have an older Linksys BEFW11s4 I want to have a secured wireless connection and I don't know how to do it. When I see my wireless connection, it says unsecured.

    The information you seek is located in your manual, searching the web or you may go here.

    I can't speak specifically regarding LG, but the Whole Home feature on Direct TV (record a movie on one DVR and watch it on another TV in another location) just won't work with wireless, and I have a strong fast connection at 300 Mbps. Ethernet works perfectly.
    Few audio/video products will accept "n" wireless at 5 GHz. I suspect that your LG accepts a 2.4 GHz signal, which would top out at 130 Mpbs.
    If you are trying to stream High Definition video, especially at 1080P, my opinion would be that it is unlikely that you will be able to do so reliably using wireless.
    Perhaps another user who has figured out how to do this will post with some input.

    I believe if you haven't already setup an itunes account, if you have access to computer with iTunes installed , you can create an iTunes account on that computer with no credit/debit card and then just buy iTunes cards at your local retailer to get credits.

  • IOS 5 can't connect to WPA/WPA2 Enterprise Wireless Network

    After upgrading multiple iPhone 4 (CDMA versions) to IOS 5.0, I have not been able to get them to connect to our WPA/WPA2 Enterprise wirless network.  We use a Cisco Wireless LAN Controller.  The wireless network is capable of doing WPA or WPA2 Enterprise with PEAP.  These phones all connected to this network fine before the upgrade.
    When connecteding to the network, it prompts me for the username and password and when I tap join it sits for about 10-15 seconds then says "Unable to join the network" with a Dismiss button.
    It connects to non-Enterprise networks just fine.  I have tested it on WPA Personal and WPA2 Personal networks and it has worked on several without issue.
    I have tried "forget this network" with no success.
    Is anyone else having this problem?  I know of at least three Verizon iPhone 4's that have this exact same problem.  I haven't seen one working with this configuration yet.

    I have the same problem:
    Cisco WLC's -> WPA2 Enterprise AES + EAP-PEAP 802.1x with CCKM
    Pre 5.0 - all worked fine
    Post 5.0 - it tries to connect and after few moments i get error - couldn't connect.

    I had this network configured on my iPhone - after upgrade and restore it remembered it. Every time i was in vicinity of my Enterprise WLAN it tried to connect - resulting int express battery drain - 6-7 hrs and battery was empty from 100%

  • WVC54GCA Missing WPA/WPA2 security options in web interface

    I just got a WVC54GCA and found out that there are some missing configuration options in the wireless settings:
    On the cameras web interface:
    web interface > Basic : Wireless Settings > [ Edit Security Settings ] > Security Mode:
    the dropdown gives me only two options: Disable and WEP, but no WPA, WPA2!
    I upgraded to the latest firmware (1.1.00 build 02), but the problem remains.
    Tried different browsers (Firefox 3.5, IE8) with the same result.
    Is this a firmware bug?  A faulty device? Anyone else having the same issue?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Try to clear the Browser settings of your IE and then try to login to the setup page of your Camera, and check if you are able to find that options.... If still unable to find WPA/WPA2 Option on your camera, Press and hold the reset button for 60 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your camera, wait for 60 seconds and re-connect the power cable....
    Now check if you are able to find that options... If still not then i think it might be the problem with the Camera...  I think you need to replace your Camera.

    Where are you putting in your WPA passphrase? Do you have wpa_supplicant running?  I think you need it to associate with an encrypted network.  Have you tried using wifi-menu from netcfg[1]? Alternatively, you could use netctl[2] from [testing] because it's going to take over for netcfg once it hits the stable repos.

    [2]https://www.archlinux.org/packages/testing/any/netctl/
    1) Put it in NetworkManager and wicd applet (obviously I don't use both at the same time)
    2) How do I see if wpa_supplicant is running?

    My personal recommendation is that you use NetworManager and nm-applet along with the b43 driver, as PinkPanther  noted.
    EDIT1: Also check that b43 and wl modules are not loaded at the same time, b43 module might be loaded automatically.

    b43 NEVER worked good to me, since I was Using Ubuntu 5 years ago. (this computer has seen Ubuntu, debian, openSUSE, debian, arch and none of them worked good with b43).
    I'll try them again.
    EDIT: Ok b43 installed and loaded by lsmod and still not working, it doesn't event try to connect, it flash for a millisecond and nothing more.
    Do i have to extract b43 firmware with b43-fwcutter as explained here? http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drive … ed_devices
    archwiki doesn't mention doing anything like it.
    Does installing b43-fwcutter execute it?
    EDIT 2: b43 up and running, but still can't connect. I've tried wpa_supplicant also.
    $ sudo wpa_supplicant -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf

  • Can't create a WPA2-Enterprise wireless connection; missing Microsoft: PEAP

    OS: Windows 7 64-bit Enterprise
    Hardware: Lenovo T410S w/Intel 5300 ABGN Wireless
    If I try to build the wireless connection manually and choose WPA2-Enterprise, then click next, I get 'An unexpected error occurred.' and no options to configure; just close.
    I then tried to create a Preshared Key WPA2 connection. This worked fine. When I go to edit the connection, I have the ability to select the WPA2-Enterprise options, however in the list of Network Authentication methods (under Security Tab), I don't have
    the Microsoft: PEAP or SmartCard options. I only have Cisco: LEAP,PEAP,EAP-FAST and Intel: EAP-SIM,EAP-TTLS,EAP-AKA (6 entries).
    It's my theory that because the Microsoft options are missing, the wizard gets the unexpected error. I'm wondering how I get the MS ones back.

    Hi,
    Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums.
    Do you have Symantec installed? It is said the issue could be due to conflict with Symantec Endpoint Protection. Please uninstall\reinstall Symantec
    if it is there.

  • Can't connect to home wireless, connection failed.

    After browsing these forums for a few hours and others alike I can't seem to find anyone with a similar problem to mine. Which is quite simply to connect to my home wireless router.
    The problem started after returning home from a weekend away, I chose to turn my Mac off completely whilst I was away.
    Upon booting my Mac up, it did not connect to my wireless network. I checked my iPhone to see if that was connected which it was. So as a quick thought I rebooted my router which had no effect. I checked my PS3 to see if that still connected and it does, to which I booted up bootcamp which is also connecting fine which removes hardware problems from the list.
    My Wi-Fi is on, the router is broadcasting and there is no interfering channels. All it says when I try and connect is connection failed.
    I've tried many different things such as removing the network from the known wireless network list, removed the network from keychain, rebooted my Mac several times, cleared PRAM. All to no effect.
    Am I missing something painstakingly obvious?
    Thanks
    Matt
    I have a MacBook Pro Retina (Oct 2013) running the latest Mavericks

    Please take all the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
    Take the applicable steps in this support article. The Wireless Diagnostics program generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 2
    Run Software Update and install all available updates for OS X or your computer's firmware.
    Step 3
    If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
    From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If there is a box marked Discoverable and it's checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
    If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it (not applicable to OS X 10.9 or later.)
    Step 4
    Open the Network pane in System Preferences and make a note of your settings in the Wi-Fi service. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the various tabs in the preference pane. If the preference pane is locked, unlock it by clicking the padlock icon and entering your administrator password. Delete Wi-Fi from the service list on the left by selecting it and clicking the minus-sign button at the bottom. Then recreate the service by clicking the plus-sign button and following the prompts.
    Step 5
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 6
    Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
