WPA2 Enterpise + AES with wicd

Hi,
I'm Matteo and I'm a student.... so to get access to internet i have to connect to a wireless connection that requires AES encryption but i dont know how to do that, i dont see this option when i configure the connection to WPA2 enterprise.
So, Is there maybe a script that can add this feature to network manager??
Or some configuration (on wpa_supplicant.conf for example) that can fix this??
As i already said I use network manager and my card is the Intel Corporation WiFi Link 5100
Thanks to all in advance for your responses

Hi gusar thanks for your response and sorry for not replying for that long but i had not access to the internet
I checked and no I cant.... with wpa2-Enterprise i can only use TLS, LEAP, Tunneled TLS and PEAP authentications.
Any idea?
Thanks
Following from Gusar, your Uni guide should be a first start. But from my experience (in Uni when they recently upgraded the network) I have been experiencing connection problems too. Networkmamager does not give a lot of control on how to connect. I switched to netcfg and used the following  to help configure its profile. (I also used the technical specification of my Uni to guide me - the process was iterative until I was successful and sent an email to helpdesk saying YA!)
http://hostap.epitest.fi/gitweb/gitweb. … icant.conf
Info about netcfg can be obtained from Arch Wikis (probably your best start)

  • IPad 3 with iOS 6 fails to connect to WiFi with WPA2 and AES - any solutions available?

    Hello *,
after upgrading my iPad 3 to iOS 6 it constantly fails to connect to WiFi with WPA2 and AES - hidden or broadcasted SSID - at home and at work because the device does not accept the WPA2 password. This is also the case for my iPhone 4S but both devices did work with WiFi (WPA2 / AES) perfectly with previously installed iOS 5.1.1.
I tried to downgrade to iOS 5.1.1 but it seems to be no longer possible to downgrade for both iPad 3 and iPhone 4S as the certification and signage window for iOS 5.1.1 maybe has been closed by Apple.
Does anyone know about a possible solution to connect to WiFi with WPA2 and AES with iPad 3 / iPhone 4S and iOS 6 upgrade?
Thank you very much for any help and advise.
    Best regards from Germany

iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199
    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

  • WPA2 CCMP issues with netcfg 2.8.3

I'm on a machine with RT2860 network interface, however because networkmanager kept dropping the connection and made it roughly 5x slower than on any other OS, I decided to move to netcfg.  After setting up the profile the way that arch wiki suggested, I kept getting an error from netcfg saying that "Authentication/Association failed".  Did I do something wrong with my configuration?  My router says WPA2-PSK security with AES (So I assume CCMP keypairing).  I suspect that the problem could be from my configuration, So I have included my rc.conf Daemon line, my network profile for netcfg, and the network block from wpa_supplicant.conf.
    DAEMONS=(hwclock syslog-ng dbus slim !networkmanager @net-profiles @net-auto-wireless netfs crond)

    SCAN="NO"

On a side note, my wireless interface is not wlan0, but ra0
    Network block from /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf:

    Update:
"ifconfig wlan0 down" always hangs... must be a driver issue (ath5k).

  • WPA2-PSK AES on 1231G

I was hoping to get some assistance on getting the 1231g to work with WPA2-PSK (AES).  My laptops cannot authenticate using this config but connect fine to the 1242AG.  Below are some of the specifics:
    1231G
    Radio Type: AIR-MP31G
    IOS Ver: 12.3(8) JED
    Multiple SSID
    Encryption: AES
    Key Management: Mandatory WPA
*Laptops can connect to SSID with WEP
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am sorry to say this, but in order to do AES with the AP you are using, you MUST have
either an AIR-RM21A or AIR-RM22A...this ap does not have either one of these radios.
...the following excerpt is from the 12.3(2)JA release notes:
    AES-CCMP
This feature supports Advanced Encryption Standard-Counter Mode with Cipher Block Chaining
Message Authentication Code Protocol (AES-CCMP). AES-CCMP is required for Wi-Fi Protected
Access 2 (WPA2) and IEEE 802.11i wireless LAN security. This feature is not supported on
    350 series access points.
This feature is supported on these devices:
•1100 series access points (802.11g radio only)
    •1130AG series access points
•1200 series access points (IEEE 802.11g and 802.11a radios only with the part numbers

  • 1st gen MBP won't connect to WiFi when WPA2-PSK [AES] security is enabled

    Hi all,
I've got a pretty vexing problem involving my old MacBook Pro and my WiFi, and I'm hoping to find an explanation or solution to it. Recently, my husband purchased a brand-spanking new (PC) laptop with n wireless capabilities, and I've been trying to reconfigure my home network so that the router is broadcasting in 2.4 gHz  b/g/n mode. When I set the router (a Netgear N600 dual band) to broadcast in "up to 300Mbps" mode, it tells me  that "WPA-PSK [TKIP] may only operate at "Up to 54Mbps" (legacy G) rate, not N rate. NETGEAR recommends that you use WPA2-PSK [AES] to get full N rate support."
So, naturally I go and set the security to WPA2, and my 1st gen MacBook Pro (it only has a CoreDuo, and hence, a b/g card) promptly proceeds to spazz out. Sometimes it sees the network, sometimes it doesn't. When it does see the network, the connection times out, and I can never successfully establish a connection. Right now, I've got the Wifi broadcasting up to 300Mbps, but the security is set to mixed WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES], so I'm not even sure if my husband is getting Wireless-N functionality on his end of things.
Has anyone else had a problem like this, and is there any solution for it? Should I upgrade my wireless card (Can I even upgrade my wireless card???), is it a software  issue, etc. I'm aware that there have been a number of issues with wireless connectivity in Mac laptops over the past few years, and I really hope this isn't one of them.
Thanks in advance for your help!

I believe the issue is the fact that the Netgear router supports wide-channel operation in the 2.4 GHz band. This is how they are able to advertize that you can get up to 300 Mbps. Apple computers/routers only support narrow-channels on this band.
What I would suggest is that if the Netgear has an option to both use narrow-channels and WPA2/AES security, to use this combination. Your Mac should be able to connect and his PC should get at least 120-130 Mbps. Note: Although not broadcasting at 300 Mbps, the Netgear will still be operating in the 802.11n radio mode.

  • Newbie adding Comcast wireless: WPA2-PSK (AES) or WPA-TKIP?

I have an old (but still great!) 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4, runnig Mac OS X 10.5.8.  I also have a 3G iPhone (iOS 4.2.1).  (Both are the most current OS for those devices.)   In the next 6 months I'll be upgrading both of these devices, but I need to install my router now, with the older equipment/software.
I am very, very new to wireless technology, so I am aware I know nothing about this.  I find that the support at Comcast isn't very Mac-savvy (especially working with my older device).
I have a new "Gateway" ARRIS modem/router to set up.  My questions:
    1 -- Encryption Method - do I choose WPA2-PSK (AES) or WPA-TKIP?
2 -- Are there any settings on my Mac (or iPhone) that I need to know about, in order to be sure the wireless network functions properly and securely?
My thanks to all of you!

    1. At the noment your G4 isn't capable of running  WPA, the only thing you can run is WEP, but change that as soon as you get your new Mac.
    2. You ned to go to Settings>wi-fi and enter the details of your setup, name, password, smtp etc etc.

  • Broadcom wl with wicd

    Hello All,
I have a broadcom card that only works with the wl kernel driver. I was running an older version of wicd (two updates ago) and I could connect to any network such as WPA WEP and wired. Since the newest two updates, I can not connect to secured networks only unsecured ones. ( and wired, but I think that is a different problem) I suspect that I have a problem with my wpa_supplicant with wicd, but I am unsure. is there anything special that I need to do to connect with the wl driver in WICD?
I dont know what files are associated with this problem, but please let me know what you need.
    Thanks,
    Levi

The card is a BCM4322 802.11a/b/g/n. For the driver I used http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Broadcom_BCM4312 that guide. When the system boots, I have the kernel wl autoloaded, but I can only connect to unsecured wireless networks. I just realized that I had not added ieee80211_crypt_tkip to the modules loaded at boot, would that allow it to connect?

  • Wga54g connecting to sony blu ray using WPA-PSK (TKIP) or WPA2-PSK (AES)

My Wga54g is to be the interenet source to my sony blu ray player. I have a wireless broadband router modem setup that uses WPA-PSK (TKIP) and WPA2-PSK (AES). How do I configure everything to work? Since the WGA54G only does WEP is there a way to configure it or the Sony Blu ray to get a internet signal to it? The sony seems to have a automatic IP or manual IP configuration setting option.  I suppose I can step down to WEP on the router settings but I'd rather not. I tried that and couldn't get it to work regardless. Please help!

To connect the Wireless-G Game adapter to a wireless network, please determine your SSID, Wireless Security and/or Network Key. Second you need to lower down the security mode to WEP, since WGA54G do not have any other security mode. • [Solved]:How to Manage 2 LAN cards with WICD

    Hi all,
I have recently added an additional lan card to my system. Its configured and runs fine.
However the concern is that I use WICD to manage my broadband internet connection through LAN1 and now I want to use LAN2 to connect to Linux/Win client laptop/desktop to share data and internet connection but WICD can manage one interface at a time and with WICD enabled I cant use Arch network daemon(as per wicd archwiki)... how to manage two cards with WICD enabled??
    Thanks in advance.
Last edited by kapz (2009-10-04 22:00:39)

Hi and thankls ngoonee, but then I rather use arch network than netcfg coz its not gui, and yep its not possible with wicd to manage two different lan cards simultaneously, tried and tested everything.Anyways i used wicd only coz it showed icon in sys tray(the lan cable keeps movin a lot so icons are really handy to make out if cable is connected or not). Well the only solution I could find is to manage it via arch network daemon, editing rc.conf and stuff...btw wen on my quest I found this archassistant tool, and its quite handy to 'manage' arch system including netcfg.
But m curious though, what more netcfg has to offer than that to default network daemon?
    Thanks in advance
    Cheers.

limbo is the network i try to connect to, but it says it doesnt support HT PHY which has to do with 5GHz network? So it seems like it not using the correct drivers? The broadcom-wl drivers are installed and loaded into the kernel.
wpa_supplincant only shows me three available drivers: wext, nl80211, wired. Shouldnt it be possible to select the broadcom drivers?

  • WPA2-AES with Certifiacte authentication in WLC

    Hello,
I have currently setup with 1200 series AP's as a Stand alone, the authentication is done via radius  with Certiface Installed in Client Domain Laptops (WPA2 + AES). The certificate is installed on the domain laptops and when I connect wireless it shows up as WPA2 (Peap). As we migrating to WLAN Controller we unable to authenticate the client with WPA2 AES. In controller if we enable PSK ( Preshared key) its works fine. with 802.1x the authentication not happening and I am getting the error as RADIUS is not responding. But we dont have a control with RADIUS which is in Remote Site. Can some one guide me in RADIUS what needs to check, and with IOS AP its works fine.
    Thanks in Advance

You will need to have access to your RADIUS server to set up your controller to support PEAp, its not as simple as upgrading the aps and adding a controller as the controller will need adding as a client to the RADIUS server as a client and depending on your remote access policies adding into the RAS policy. You will need to liaise with the RADIUS support team

  • WPA2 network authentication with AES Data Encryption

I have tried unsuccessfully to connect with my university's network....they are running WPA2 with AES data encryption....authentication is Protected EAP (PEAP). Any ideas of the iPhone can connect to something like this?

You've confirmed my suspicion. We use WPA2-Personal with AES Encryption as well and I just discovered after having bought my iPhone last night, that it will not connect. And yet every other WiFi device I own, including two Windows computers have no issue connecting to the same Access Point. Obviously the issue is with the iPhone and now I'll have to contact Apple to learn how the intend to resolve it.
