WPA2 Personal Security Not Displaying

We recently got Comcast internet service and we're able to connect to the Internet via our Airport Express, however, when I check the Network settings (under System Preferences>Network), it shows no security level. This doesn't make any sense, though, because when I check the configuration settings under the Airport Admin utility, it shows our wireless network as having WPA2 Personal setting.
Does anyone have any idea why the Network Preference pane is not displaying WPA2 Personal setting? Thanks!

Because it's unnecessary perhaps on the Mac end to tell the user that?
WPA, WPA2, WEP etc., are set on the router end, for simplicity sake perhaps the Mac user isn't informed, just that if it's encrypted or not.
There is a little lock symbol and you can download iStumbler from MacUpdate.com to sniff your signals and their encryption.
BTW, I've found the Airport Express a rather crappy underpowered router prone to interference, I switched to a $99 dual band 2.5/5Ghz Netgear high performance router and been happy as a pig in slop.

  • WPA2 Personal Security not secure?

I have WPA2 Personal security on my airport network. Two computers are using this network, a G5 iMac and a MacBook. The Macbook only sees the iMac under Shared in the Finder window. The G5 iMac sees a strange computer. How do I get rid of this computer, as I'm worried about my security.

WPA2 is only secure if you use a strong password. a pre shared key that is weak is vulnerable to brute force dictionary attack.
BT routers are not made by BT they are just a speedtouch thompson router in sheeps clothing. They show up in the sidebar.

many isp's use the dreaded speedtouch router rebranded with their own logo.
These routers work fine as modems but don't work well as routers. They crash, they over heat they are buggy. The problem is that most dslams in the UK are alcatel so ISP's use thompson/alcatel adsl router as they prove to be the most compatible for good sync speeds. But the problem is the speedtouch routers are inefficient.

  • How to enable 802.11N extended network and WPA2 Personal Security?

    Hello,
I have an aiport express 802.11N, using Radio Mode 802.11N (5Ghz only) and set to "allow this network to be extended". At the same time the wireless security is set to "WPA2 Personal" (and the key defined). This router is also hooked up to the internet as the main bridge.
On the other side, I have an airport extreme set exactly the same way from a security standpoint (WPA2 Personal) and for this one, the wireless is set to "extend a wireless network".
    Both routers have their light green and my computer is wired to the airport extreme. The computer gets its IP address from the main dhcp server and I can FTP to any ftp site; I can ping any machines on my network;
Now the problem:I can not browse the internet nor ping any website. Http traffic is completely blocked.
If I reset the security to none on both routers, I can then access the internet without any problem.
Has anybody been succesful with this configuration and what am I doing wrong?

You need to download and install the AirPort Extreme 802.11n* Enabler for Mac. But it will cost you --- $1.99. Order it from the Apple Store:

  • AEBS - WPA2 Personal - Security bug?

If I hide my wireless network i.e create a closed network such that I have to join that network, select the encryption type (WPA2 personal) and then type in the password - there seems to be a bug. In that if the password is typed in wrongly and I get press the try again option it just lets me into the network anyway.

WPA2 is only secure if you use a strong password. a pre shared key that is weak is vulnerable to brute force dictionary attack.

  • Contact Person Relationship not displaying in webUI

    Hi,
I am facing an issue while creating the Contact Person relationship in webUI. It is displaying in back end (GUI) drop down box, but its not displaying in web UI dropdown box. All other relationships are displaying well in UI.Please suggest to overcome this.
    Bob

    HI! Bob,
I am in a fix, actually i cant upgrade to sp004(presently in sp002) because it probably would also affect compatibility with other servers  as i am using NWDI TREX IPC, so it is not posible for me to upgrade to SP004............
I am still looking forward if you can provide me any help in
If you require to see also contact person-relationships
in "Relationships", you need to eliminate the filtering in BOL
(class CL_BUPA_IL_RELATION->FILTER_RELATIONSHIPS). By creating a new
implementation class (i.e. ZL_BUPA_IL_RELATION with superclass
CL_BUPA_IL_RELATION) and entering this class in viewcluster
CRMVC_BUIL for external object BuilRelationship), you can redefine
method FILTER_RELATIONSHIPS and implement logic according to your needs
I am not able to apply the above solution, as FILTER_RELATIONSHIPS is a private method of the class CL_BUPA_IL_RELATION so how can i redefine it.
    Please help me out.............
    Thanks a ton

  • Cannot print wirelessly via AirPort Express with WPA2 Personal security

Recently decided to tighten security by switching to WPA2 Personal from WEP on our WDS wired/wireless home network. Main base station is Airport Extreme, WDS remote base station is an Airport Exress, both configured using Airport Setup Assistant. Printers are hardwired through the switch. No problem printing wirelessly when in range of the main base station, but when connected through the WDS remote base station, get the following error: "Unable to open [printername]: No route to host". Interestingly, if I first print when connected (wirelessly) through the main base station, I can then print wirelessly through the remote base station. When I go back to WEP security there is no problem. Anyone have any suggestions?

You may need to update your AirPort base station firmware to support WPA/WPA2 over WDS. (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107791)

  • WRT300N and wpa2 personal security

I believe this is the best security option for me. My router works perfectly, I have a handful of notebooks and desktops connected. I am set up 'mixed' as I have some 'g' and 'n''s on the network and am 'ppoe'. My ip addresses are dynamic and working well. Everytime I try to activate wpa2 security i choose 'aes' and enter a 13 key password and click save changes. I then cannot get signed on to the router - ip address not acquired is the message. I check my ip address, ipconfig/all and sure enough there is no ip address. If you can help I would greatly appreciate it. I checked as best as possible other posts but could not find this issue. Thanks in advance!!
Also, as of now, is there any prodcut out there that successfully extends this routers range?
    Cheers,

on the computers where the wireless cards are installed there should be software that you can access to enter the:
    security
    WPA Algorithms
    Shared Key
There could be an icon on your desktop or go to the start menu then all programs
    Good Luck,

  • WDS and WPA2 Personal Security

I'm about to set up a WDS with an Airport Extreme, and an Airport Express.
When I set up my WDS with Airport Admin Utility, will my security settings and my 64 character PSK be transfered from the Extreme to the Express? Do I need to apply my security settings first, and then set up the two APs as a WDS?
I've looked for this info in the documentation and have had no luck.
Thanks in advance for any help.

The Extreme is existing, the Express will be here
    next week.
Ensure that the Extreme is configured to use WPA2 and that this works okay.
Use the Setup Assistant to configure the Express to extend an existing wireless network.
The Assistant will then configure both the Extreme and the Express for WDS. It will configure the Extreme as the main base station and the Express as nodes.
Will I need to reset the Extreme as well?
    No
    Or will its
settings be moved onto the Express?
    The assistant copies the settings.
Will AirTunes work reasonably well in WDS mode with
    WPA2?
    Yes.
However do you NEED to extend your network, or are you quite happy to use the Express units for AirTunes only?
For example, say your Extreme is in the basement, you put the Express in the living room, but you need to extend the network into the next floor bedroom then use WDS.
If all you need is AirTunes then don't use WDS.
WDS effectively halves the available bandwidth, which can sometimes mean music dropouts.
Only use WDS if you need to extend your wireless network, otherwise configure the Airport Express units to JOIN your existing wireless network (known as client mode).

  • I can't setup a WPA/WPA2 Personal Security Setting on WRT54G

Can anyone tell me why the setup keeps asking me for a pre-shared key to establish a secure network for my router?
(If you know it, feel free to tell me.)

If you are using a CD or are using the Easy Link Advisor to set up the wireless security and are having an issue, you do not have to use either , you can set up the wireless security manually by accessing the routers set up pages. Below are steps to follow.
***Important = Please connect an Ethernet cable from the linksys router to the computer that you are setting up the wireless security on, this is only for setting up only, once done with the set up remove the Ethernet cable.***
Setting up your wireless connection in your router.
*** Step #5 = you can choose the type of encryption that fits your set-up, the example I give is: WPA/TKIP+AES
***Also Pay close attention to the security and security key information and make sure it matches. (What is entered in the router must be entered in the computer.
1.Open Internet Explorer and type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar.
2.You will now get a sign-in box, User Name = (Leave Blank)
Password = admin (all lower case letters)
3.Once the set-up page opens, click on the Wireless Tab as you will need to change the settings. A) Wireless Network Mode = Mixed
                  B) Wireless Network Name (SSID) = Choose any name and do not use Linksys.
                  C) Wireless Channel = 1, 6 or 11 is best, so see which work best for you.
                  D) Wireless SSID Broadcast = Enabled.
    4. Now go to the bottom of the page and click on save settings.
    5. Click on the Wireless Security Sub tab.
                  A) Security Mode: WPA
                  B) WPA Algorithms: TKIP + AES
                  C) WPA Shared Key:  Type 24 letters, and numbers using lower and upper case letters
                  D) Group Key Renewal: 3600
    6. Once again go to the bottom of the page and click on Save Settings.
    7. Now you can close out of this page.
    8. You will now need to enter the security info into your computer. I will now give you 2 links, depending which operating system you have, Vista or XP you will follow the one you have.
    Vista = http://www.home-network-help.com/wireless-adapter-configuration-in-vista.html
    XP = http://www.home-network-help.com/wireless-adapter.html
Now try to make a wireless connection.
    Good Luck,
    Ttech

  • MacBook Pro - 802.11n, WPA2-Personal and Time Capsules

I recently moved to using 802.11n (5GHZ) mode on my Time Capsule using WPA2-Personal security. I am unable to connect to the wireless network which is extremely frustrating since this is all Apple hardware. I have no problem connecting to the 802.11n 5GZ network using one of my PCs.
My MacBook Pro has the latest software updates available and does have 802.11n enabled.
I have been looking for similar issues on the forum and have tried a few things that were suggested by others, but nothing works. I've reset the router. Reset the SMU. Haven't reset NVRAM yet.
I have a mix of Apple and PC hardware that is connecting to this network. My 24" Intel iMac (Core 2 Duo) connects just fine.
I'm hoping there is a GURU on this forum that can assist me.
    Thanks,
    J.d.

    I would try:
    1. Examine your system.log for the error you are getting, if you cannot authenticate with the router it will say why. Go to the Apple icon, select "About this Mac", select "more info" button in the center, select "Log" under Software on the left panel side, select "system.log" then scroll to the bottom, look for errors in the log related to "airport" or 802.11...
    2. Go to Finder/Utilities, pull up keychain access.app, click on System on the left, you should see an entry for your WIFI network, delete that entry, close Keychain access.
    3. Try removing, reboot then re-add your Aiport entry. Go to System Parameters, Network, highlight "Airport" click on the minus button and remove it. Reboot your computer. When it comes back up go back to System Parameters, Network, then click on the button and re-add the Airport, when it says Airport 2, over write that with just "Airport", then click on Advanced, click on button to add the Preferred Network back in, type the name of the SSID on your router, then select WPA2 Personal from the drop down menu type. You can also display the password to confirm it matches what you input in the router for the password for WPA2 Personal.
Under TCP/IP, if you are getting a private IP address from the router via DHCP, then set IPv4 to DHCP. I would not use IPv6 for time being, set that to Off. Next click on your DNS and input your DNS if not automatically filled in by the router with DHCP, I always like to add a DNS not provided by the router that way if it fails or you go to Starbucks you will always have a DNS entry that works, I would input OpenDNS's entries, so those would be under IPv4:
    208.67.222.222 and other is
    208.67.220.220
So to connect, your computer needs to have an IP address, either DHCP or manually input (like 192.168.1.xxx) etc.
Next you need a DNS entry if not provided for by your router (should be if it is dishing out DHCP client addresses).
WINS and Proxies are only used in corporate environments where they are using a windows domain and/or proxy servers as a gateway to the WAN.
WPA2 Personal offers much better security than WPA or WEP shared, if you use a password make it at least 8 characters in length 10 is better. The longer you make it the higher the security, but it must match exactly what the password was set for WPA2 on the router.
TO make sure you are not having signal/noise problems get as close to your router as you can to establish the connection once that is done you can move farther away.

I attempted to set it up because she has problems, and once she has the product in her hands, then I have to direct over her shoulder and that is miserable.
Even more miserable is that I could not get the iPad2 to connect to the Airport network I had set up with WPA2 personal security.
Shoot, the iPad2 didn't even list WPA2 Personal, only WPA2 and I tried that. But it would not let me connect. I tried retyping password and network ID over and over, but it would not work. I could see the network, but I could not connect.
I returned the product because I did not want this headache on Christmas morning. I'd still like the product, but only if it works.
I've read elsewhere on the forums that with the new IOS5 the product does not work with any form of WPA security. For me that is not acceptable.
I tried calling Apple service, but after a while I was disconnected while waiting to talk. That happened four times.
    Any ideas.

    Thanks for your reply.
At the moment, i use WPA2. Here's more information: I have ATT DSL (not Uverse... just their crappy DSL service - it's all that is available in my area at the moment, and I don't have a cable option.) I'm using the Netgear router that they made me buy from them when I got the service. It's pretty terrible, actually, and has only become worse with time. Up until last week, I had an non-secure but hidden network. Most everything could connect, but I was having some trouble with some devices losing the network and not being able to find it on their own. So I decided to go with a password again. So now all my computers, phones, tablets, gaming systems, etc, are connected to the router using the WPA/WPA2 password, but the apple TVs won't do i
At first, the ATV doesn't ask for a password... just tells me that it can't connect and the password is wrong. Then when I go back, it displays a screen that tells me to select the kind of security my WIFI uses, but the only options available are WEP, WEP Hex and WEP ASCII

  • Changed Base Station security; not cannot connect

Added WPA2 Personal security to AirPort base station this morning, now one of three computers cannot connect to the network, despite repeated reboots and connection attempts (Network name and password checked for typos each time).
The machine in question is a PowerPC G4 running OS X (10.4.11).
Any suggestions as to where I start to sort this out?
It's got a lot of vital data on it, but it's in the basement, and running up and down stairs is a strain on aging and arthritic knees.

The Base Station does not have anywhere near the security capabilities of the PIX. It also doesn't cost anywhere near what the PIX does. Where it gets the security it does have (in Base Station mode) is from PAT and its lack of support for static translations. As well, Telnets and HTTP access from the ethernet side (in Base Station mode) are disabled, so those out on the Internet pointing browsers and telnet clients at random addresses are not going to get access. That's why fresh from the box or a reset, administration has to be done from the radio side.

  • What's the security difference between WPA and WPA2 Personal?

In order to get my G4 iMac (OS 10.4.11) onto my new AEBS(b/g/n) wi-fi network, I had to drop the network security down from WPA2 Personal to WPA/WPA2 Personal.
What are the potential security risks in this mode? I know that WEP is no longer secure, so I'm concerned about WPA also being vulnerable.
If there's a good online explanation of these security differences (not necessarily Apple-only), you just give me that link.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Summary:
1.WPA2 is the improved version of WPA
2.WPA only supports TKIP encryption while WPA2 supports AES
3.Theoretically, WPA2 is not hackable while WPA is
4.WPA2 requires more processing power than WPA

I have an Airport Express that I am trying to use connected by ethernet to my iMac G4 running Mac OS 10.4.11.  I need to update the Airport Express softwart in order to use security option WPA2 Personal to connect to the internet through my Airport Extreme.  I currently have Airport Express software version 5.6.1.  How can I update this software? (I can connect directly to my Airport Extreme by ethernet and download the update that way).  Is a later version of A E software available for download anywhere?   Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Download and install AirPort Utility 5.4.2 for Mac OS X 10.4.11 "Tiger" here:
    AirPort Utility 5.4.2
Once installed, launch AirPort Utility. It will tell you if a firmware upgrade is available for your Express.
