WPC navigation....

Hi ,
We are using WPC  on NW 7.0 SP17 . We have four web pages in WPC  and created navigation node for the 4 pages and published it . I am able to see the 4  links in the detailed navigation for the pages in my portal role . In my first page content i have link which points to second page. When i click the link it goes to the second page but i am not able to see the detailed navigation and i see second page without detailed navigation. Is it possible to show the second page with detailed navigation and second link in detailed navigation  highlighted?.
Thanks,
Vasu

Hi Vasudevan.
Try the following steps:
1. Republish a site navigation.
2. Repeat step 1 for parent site if you have it.
3. Open the first page for edit.
4. In a page design mode open a corresponding web form containing a link to the second page for edit.
5. In opened window with the web form just click Save and Close.
6. Publish the page and finish editing.
7. Check results in runtime.
Hope it helps. As for me this solution worked with a page containing a link list form to other web pages.

  • Quick Survey: WPC... WPC navigation or Traditional Navigation

Are you using WPC navigation (using the navigation.wpc files and external connector) or are you creating iviews and pages for each WPC page?
From what I can tell, the "traditional" way might provide statistics a bit easier, but maintenance would be much more difficult, with much more dependency on a company's IT department. Plus all stats are in one grouping. You don't have to combine Activity Reporting (iviews and Pages) with [KMC Activity Reporting |http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/45/74eeda9ba26975e10000000a114a6b/frameset.htm](the kmcActivity logs).
Conversely, navigation the navigation.wpc way puts more control into "content authors", but activity reporting is a little more complicated. [I am using the kmcActivity file, but I do not get some infomration that I would like. I have added additional parameters to the Main File Format property (such as users, folders, target urls to help trace where the wpc file is), etc... but none of these show up for WPC pages (but do show up for non WPC files).
Right now, our portal is heavily weighted with WPC content and "files", so the navigation.wpc way with activity reporting through the kmcActivity logs seems preferable.

  • WPC Navigation: From Linklist to IView - No Focus in PortalMenu

    Hi experts,
    I have the following problem:
I navigate from a WPC Page (in a LinkList) to an IView like this:
    javascript:top.EPCM.doNavigate('ROLES://portal_content/de.kunde.portal/de.kunde.service/de.kunde.service_iviews/de.kunde.IViewAPPINFO')
The navigation works fine, but the Focus in the PortalMenu is not set properly to the role and the tab where the IView is in. It just stands where it is.
    Every idea welcome.

  • Expanding WPC detailed navigation nodes

I'd very much like for our Web page composer navigation nodes in the detailed navigation to expand on load. Preferably I would like to have the option to expand all nodes.
For me it doesn't even seem to work to use the new functionality of the detailed navigation iview where you can set the first node to expand on load. This works if the first node is a work set but not if it's a folder pointing to a WPC navigation structure.
    Any tips?
    Regards
    Henning Strand

    Jagadeesh,
the detailed navigation (and everything that belongs to the framework page) is under responsibility of the Portal. The Web Page Composer tool is just managing the pages not how they are shown in the Portal environment. Therefore WPC  should not be blamed for lack of this specific functionality.
What you want can be achieved by means of some custom code in the framework. You could create your own detailed navigation iview which following some logic determines which pages need navigation tree shown and which not. Writing such an iview is not trivial effort you may also try to insert some logic (iview) in the framework page which removes the detail navigation iview from the POM tree but I am not really sure if that will work or not.
Hope this gives some more light.

  • SAP Web Page Composer: Detailed Navigation is not getting built

    Hello!
I am new at this forum. At first I´d like to say hello to everybody! :]
    Our issue concerns the following:
We started to work mit the Web Page Composer to build websites für our workers. Everything worked fine until the detailed WPC-navigation is not getting built anymore. We have this issue after a portal restart. Every steps to build and publish a website were done the right way.
    1. Publish navigation und paste it to the external connector of the role in the form "wpcnavigation:///wpcontent..."
    2. Permissions and security zones were set. Even the super admin is not able to see the detaild navigation anymore.
It is still possible to put single webpages to iViews and then to display them in the portal. And every function of the Web Page Composer works fine. The caches are deactivated. I tried to build a new site with new pages and a new navigation but there is the same problem, no detailed navigation is shown in the portal navigation. The role is assigned to a user and he can see the role at the top navigation but when clicking on it no detailed navigation appears, just a blank page.
As I mentioned this iusse appears after a portal restart. What could be the problem?
    Thank you in advance!
    Best regards
    Georg

    Hello Sandeep!
I created a new role and also did the Initial Configurations but it still does not work. May be there is a problem with the external connector where I connect the WPC navigation with the portal navigation? I know it sounds confusing but is there may be a way I could "reset" the WPC configuration? Because at the moment I tried to merge roles the system saved "some configuration" and started to avoid displaying the detailed navigation. So if could delete/reset/change this configuration, it could be that the navigation will be displayed again? I do not unterstand, if I just use one role and so avoid merging roles it just should work again? Or I am on the wrong way? Hopefully I am not telling bull**** right now! :]
At this moment our system running SAP NetWeaver 7.00 SP18. The patch is only available at least SAP NetWeaver 7.00 SP20. We are probably going to upgrade in october to SAP NetWeaver 7.00 SP23 and then we can update the WPC, too. Our Basis said, I have to wait till october. Before this upgrade no updates will be done.
Thanks for your help so far!
    Kind regards!
    Georg

  • Anonymous WPC access

    Hi,
I'm setting up WPC for anonymous access. For this reason a role was created and WPC navigation is attached to it with an external connector. This role is added to the Guest user.
The Guest user is accessing the page and is able to see the WPC navigation, but in the content area where the web page should be displayed a Login window appears instead. Permissions have been assigned correspondingly to SAP NW Library (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/47/1da38afe214405e10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm).

  • WPC Menu Focus not working

I created a WebPage using WPC and integrated the Navigation site to ESS Role. When I click the ESS menu the WPC Page opens up but the focus of the main menu moves to next menu(MSS) . I see a Javascript error 'children' is null or not an object. I followed all the step as per WPC online documentation.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/45/bbefabf01252f5e10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm.
Any help on this will be much appreciated!

I tried even creating a Test Role and created a folder for that role named as Home. I assigned the WPC navigation path to External connector property of that folder. I kept this folder at top of the tree. I do not have any ServiceMap Iview. I can email you the screenshots of the configuration for more information.
For any Role when I assign a WPC home page the menu focus moves to next menu, but the WPC  WebPage is coming up when they click that main menu.
Any help on this will be much appreciated!
    Thanks,

  • Pages assigned to a Role along with wpc are missing

    Hello Experts,
I have created a website and integrated with the Role. The website is being displayed succesfully. Now, theproblem is when I assign another Page to the role it's not visible? Any ideas on what's going wrong?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,

    Hi,
WPC pages are assigned to navigation points by external connector. This connector defines the sub-navigation. All other content added to the navigation point are not taken into account
    Role
    - Folder (-> WPC navigation integrated via external connector)
    - - Page (not visible)

  • Migration of an existing web site to Web Page Composer

    Hello,
I am investigating the options and the feasibility of the migration of an existing web site to a Web Page Composer (WPC) site. The web resources of the site can easily be copied to KM and used afterwards in WPC containers. However, they can neither be integrated to the WPC site navigation nor edited through the WPC UI. For example, only WPC Web Page or Web Sites can be WPC navigation nodes.
Has anyone ever done or tried such a migration? Do you know where I could find a description (or the javadocs) of the WPC API? Any suggestions or hints will be much appreciated.
    Thank you
    Youlian Dimitrov

    Hi Youlian.
If I understand correctly you have rebuilt only a few hundreds of the old pages using WPC forms. Did you do this manually or you have found a way of migrating them programmatically?
Yes, we did it manually for a two reasons:
    1. short timetable;
    2. 20 intranet sites with variety of used technologies and tools, styles, navigation structures.
Did you leave the rest of the pages as HTML (non-WPC) files?
Yes. But we imported them into KM.
Does it mean that you have implemented only part of the navigation structure through the WPC/portal navigation?
    Yes and no.
Firstly, in our case it would be a bad idea to bring all legacy, sometimes cluttered, navigation structure to a new platform as is.
Secondly, keeping in mind that in a common scenario portal already has own top level navigation you should carefully decide how deep is your site navigation structure will be.
Finally, migration it is a good time for information architecture redesign based on standards and guidelines.
Assuming that you have adjusted properly the links to all resources, have you encountered any particular navigation or display issues following this approach?
I could remember two limitations concerning a navigation:
    1. you should avoiding links to navigation nodes inside non-wpc html files, because in this case a target page opens without DLN;
    2. first linked non-wpc html page, which placed outside wpc container, should be opened in new window.
As for design, all our display issues caused by inline styles within source html files.
Did you notice any noticeable performance degradation after the migration?
We didn't have any degradation of performance. However, it is highly individual and depends on your portal infrastructure.

  • Detail Navigation missing when i link a web page in the WPC Scenario

    Hi to all.
I had publish WPC site with the External Connector method.
I have some Web Pages linked in the Navigation Structure, when i link one of this from a internal link (for example in a List link or other) I displayed the page and the detail navigation is visible and the focus on the destination page is light.
Well, when I try to link a Web Page that not is linked in the Navigation structure (open it in the same page) the Navigation structure is missing.
Why? How i can leave the NAvigation structure and display the page?
Many thanks for your help in advance.

    Hi,
this scenario is not supported by WPC. I think it was written somewhere (in a note or so). The problem is that if a page is not included in the navigation structure there is no navigation node associated. And so link to that page does not contain NavigationTarget therefore it does not trigger a real portal navigation but just displays the page in the iframe in which it has been fired. That means if you are using the standard framework page (i.e. with frames) page is shown in the inner most frame and the rest is untouched (side effect from which is that the TLN is not updated) and if you are using the light framework page after click the page is shown on the whole window as there are no iframes.
May be you would be able to work around this by selecting such page to be opened in pop up window. Other options exist but they are more complicated as solutions.
    Hope that helps.
    regards,

  • WPC on Portal 7.3: Area in top level navigation

    Hi,
We are trying to set up a site using Web Page Composer on portal 7.3, but we are not able to display the area in the first level of the navigation.
Let's say we need following structure in the navigation:
    Departments
    -- HR
    -- Trading & Supply
    -- Finance
We want the content managers  of our site to create extra departments without sending an area connection request to show the new department in the navigation.
Is it possible to create an Area Departments, link it to a role by creating a connection and use this connection as an entry point?
I've tried to edit the connection and mark "departments" as entry point, but it's not appearing in the top level navigation.
    kr,
    Joachim

    Hi,
An area cannot be the first level of navigation. When you publish an area in WPC 2.0 it becomes a workset. Connecting the area to a role is similar to placing a workset under a role (the technicalities aren't the same, but that's the general idea).
Information regarding area connection can be found at:

  • Problem with WPC and Top Level Navigation

    Hi all...
I have one problem. I'm using WPC and my role name is shown in Top Level Navigation (TLN).
    For example:
    Role name: Test
navigation nodes: company, About Us, Finnancial, News...
"Test" role is shown on TLN first level and the first level of navigation node is shown on TLN second level.
How can I remove the role name from TLN first level? I already changed the entry point parameter to "No" however this case the navigation node disappear from TLN.
    tks

    Praveen,
How can I set the "No" Entry Point parameter to my navigation nodes??
In my role configuration I only changed the External Connector and Entry Point Parameters.
Where can I set up the No entry point parameter for my navigation nodes?

  • WPC Migration to 7.3 - Navigation

    Hi Everyone,
We are in the process of migrating WPC content originally created in version 7.0 to 7.3.
After connecting the Area to the Role I haven't been able to set the top level entry points correctly. I need to define the content below the Area as the role entry points. However when I open the connection and set the entry points in the workset it has no effect. Setting the root node of the workset has no effect either.
Only when I set the entry point at the role level it ha some effect so if I create a folder inside the role and insert the connection I will see the folder as entry point, the second level would be the area name and the content inside the area would appear as the detailed navigation.
Ideally I would like to define the content below the area as entry points having them appear at the TLN and then using sort priority and merge id combine the area content with the content defined at the role level.
    Best regards,
    Andrés Acero

    Andres,
We had the same problem. Unfortunately there is no standard solution.
You cannot set an area as 1st level navigation.
You have to define an entry point in a role and the area is the 2nd level entry.

  • Nested site navigation using Web Page Composer (WPC)

Is it possible to nest navigation nodes using Web Page Composer?
I have created a WPC site and added pages, but I am required to create a node with sub-pages (similar to adding a folder to a workset) for a site.
Has anyone done this or know how to easily do this?  I do not want to maintain a separate WPC site (and corresponding workset folder) for each navigation node/group in the structure hierarchy.
This is an example of what we are trying to accomplish in our navigation structure using a single WPC site:
    * Page 1
    * Page 2
    + Group 1
        * Page 3
        * Page 4
    + Group 2
        * Page 5
        * Page 6
    * Page 7
    Thanks in advance...
Points will be awarded for helpful answers.

    Hi Angie,
Could you please guide how to make the RSS link lists work in WPC, we do not receive any updates from external websites.
    Thanks,
    Shravs

  • WPC 7.0 Navigation node issue

Hi All - I am on WPC 7.0 and we did all the needed configuration for WPC 7.0, I have created a new website in WPC and publish it . I also created a Site Navigation and apply it to the Folder below my editor role.
Everything looks good but when I navigate to the Editor role I don't see the webpage under my WPC created website. This is the message I am getting "No content available for this navigation node"
Is there a known issue with WPC 7.0 which is causing this issue?
    Thanks,
    -Ash

We had similar issue. SAP replied to our OSS message and asked us to  patch WPC component.
    Thanks,
