AirPort Utility is only for administering Apple's base stations.
To change the wireless network created by your iMac you would (on that iMac) open System Preferences-> Sharing and change the settings there,

  • AirPort Utility Network Setup - Replace Router or Join Current Network?

I just got an AirPort Express and plugged it in.  The Airport Utility - Network Setup asks if I want to:
    1)     Create a new network
    2)     Replace an existing base station or wireless router with AirPort Express
    3)     Want AirPort Express to join my current network
I am not too advanced with computers, so I need to ask, what should I be choosing here?  There really isn't much in the manual about the topic.  I already have AT&T Uverse for my internet and get wireless internet access through them.  I got the AirPort Express so I could print wirelessly from devices to a printer that is hooked up to the AirPort Express and so I could create a guest network for visitors that want internet acess to whom I don't want to give my AT&T password.
    Thanks.

1.) Since the Airport Express is extending the Extreme Network, will my whole network now be single radio only network, since the Express only has one radio?
Although, your AirPort Express is 802.11n, it is not simultaneous dual-band. That means it can either extend the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz radio but not both at the same time. So the AEBSn will still be broadcasting on both the 5 GHz (for 802.11a/n) and on 2.4 GHz (for 802.11b/g/n).
2.) What if both an 802.11g and 802.11n device connect to the Express' radio instead of the Extreme's for some reason, will this make both devices operate at 2.4GHz?
    Yes.
3.) What if an 802.11g device connects to the Airport Express' radio. Since this is now 2.4GHz, will it only now communicate with the Airport Extreme at 2.4GHz?
Assuming that you configured the AXn to extend the AEBSn's 2.4 GHz radio, it will only be able to communicate back to the AEBSn on its 2.4 GHz radio.

  • Downloaded iOS 7 on my iPhone 4S and cant connect to airport utility.  speakers still work wirelessly from computer so i know it isnt the wiifii connection.  shows everything is connected but when i play a song on itunes the icon doesnt show up for airpor

I downloaded ios 7 on my iphone 4s and cant play itunes from my iphone to my speakers through airport utility.  it shows im connected thro wifii.  i can play the speakers wirelessly from itunes on my computer so i know its my phone since ios 7 downloaded.  even the icons on the song that turn on the speakers are missing.  what do i have to do to get it back?  Ive deleted airport utility and reinstalled it.  i shutdown my phone and the airport base and wifii and restarted everything.  nothing seems to b helping.

I just encountered this problem for the first time and stumbled upon this forum to find a solution.  I played around with it a bit and it seems that if you slide your finger from the bottom up, you will come upon that new screen that will allow you to do various functions with your phone (put it in airport mode, lock, etc.), you can select your Airport from this screen and play your music wirelessly from your phone; at least this was my experience. Hope this helps!

  • Can't find Time Capsule with Airport Utility on ethernet but can on configure other.

OS X 10.8.4, 24" iMac,TC 1st generation, Airport Utility 6.3 or 5.6, TC Firmware was 7.6.3 downgraded to 7.6.1(no effect), reinstalled OS X 10.8.4, have done a factory reset of TC, TC is visible to finder and Time Machine, both work fine. Internet works fine. Wireless works fine.
Airport Utility on  Macbook Pro with the same software sees it fine, no problems.
    Please! Any suggestions?

I will update this if it also solves another problem with Time Machine backups.

  • AirPort Utility "wizard" setup resets my password

    Hi,
I've been having a bizarre problem setting up my Airport network and would appreciate any advice!
Basically, after I set up my express to extend a wireless network created by my extreme, the Express's configuration password gets reset.
Here's the situation. I have two airports: an Extreme (the white square 802.11n one), and an Express. I'm trying to use the Extreme to create a wireless network (plugged into cable modem) and the Express to as a bridge (i.e. it will connect to the network wirelessly, and will allow me to plug a wired device into its ethernet jack).
I've setup the extreme, then, in AirPort Utility, selected the Express and went through the setup wizard (i.e. pressing continue rather than "manual setup"). I choose to extend an existing wireless network, I type in a name and password for the base station, and then both base stations restart.
Here comes the problem: I'd also like to set up AirTunes, so (after giving plenty of time for things to stabilize) I choose the Express then choose "manual setup". It asks for a password for the Express, but the one I set in the previous paragraph isn't accepted. I try again and again.
I ended up resetting the Express (by holding the press-it-with-a-paperclip button on it) and repeating the process, making extra sure to type the password carefully, but the same thing still happens... Basically, it seems that if I use the wizard (rather than Manual Setup) to configure WDS on the Express, then my password gets reset/unset.
Has anyone else had this problem?

    Hi,
I understand that there are three separate names and passwords (more if you include airtunes and hard drive sharing, etc.) All three names and passwords are unique.
When I typed in the "name and password for the base station" I meant that I was asked for and typed in the new name for the express (to replace "Apple Network Something-in-hex") and the (new) password for the express. (The username/password for the Extreme was already in my keychain. I assumed that's why I was not asked for it...)
This same password is the one I'm unsuccessfully trying to use when I try to "manually configure"... Should I be doing something different?

  • Windows 7 computer will not find Time Capsule using Airport Utility.

I have a wireless network already setup.  However, I have bought the Time Capsule to put in my home office, where it is acting as a hub to get access to three different printers.  I have already setup our iMac and Macbook to get access, and they work fine.  however, the Windows 7 laptop just does not even find the Time Capsule.  I have updated the Airport Utility software, rebooted the time capsule, and even tried connecting directly using an ethernet cable, and nothing.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for trying to help me out, but, I have solved the issue on my own.  The issue is, firewalls.  if you have windows firewall, or any other firewall installed it blocks the communication.  I simply turned off the firewall, it recognized the time capsule, I configured it, and then turned the firewall back on, and it kept the connection because the port was now open.  All is good now.

  • Unable to find Time Capsule in Airport Utility after several rescans

    Hi all,
I just bought the latest 2GB Time Capsule last year and initially was able to connect it as a external hard drive to my wifi router.
However, I moved address this month and changed the name of my wifi. Probably the IP addresses were also changed.
I am trying to connect it to my wifi via Airport Utility however, even after several clicks on "Rescan", I am unable to detect the Time Capsule.
The manual setup and Update buttons are also disabled in the Airport Utility.
I tried to connect my Time Capsule to my Macbook via Ethernet but still the "TC drive" does not appear.
How can I change the wifi settings in my TC if I can't even detect it?
Please take note that I am not using my Time Capsule as a router but as a hard drive connecting to my dlink router.
    Cheers!

You will need to perform a Factory Default Reset on the Time Capsule to get it back to original settings so that you can reconfigure to work with the D-Link router. The reset will not affect your backups.
This Apple Support document will provide the details on how to do this:

  • Time Capsule not responding in Airport Utility on setup after hard reset.

I have been trying to set up my Time Capsule after a hard reset.
I am seeing the Time Capsule in Airport utility with default settings, however when I choose continue to setup or manual setup it tells me I need to switch networks to continue and then gives me the following message.
BASE STATION ERROR: AirPort Utility was unable to find your Apple wireless device.
The Time Capsule continues to work as a hub for devices connected to it but I am unable to see the hard disk or use the wireless functions. Any ideas?

Thank you. The computer is connected directly to the time capsule through ethernet and giving me those messages. I have tried resetting a couple of times to no avail. I guess I am starting to wonder if I have a problem with the Time Capsule which is only a year and a half old. As I mentioned I have number of devices connected through the LAN ports and they are all working fine. It is only the functionality of wirless and the hard disk that appears to be compromised.

  • After hard reset of time capsule, airport utility cannot setup again. "an unexpected error occurred. try again"

After starting airport utility, it searches and i select my time capsule. AU grinds for a minute and comes back with "An unexpected error occured. Try again."

    Hi Philjp,
If you are having issues connecting to your Airport Time Capsule, even after a factory reset, you may find the following article helpful:

  • Airport Utility Manual?

    Hi,
I am using Airport Utility to manage my Time Capsule (airport extreme) and I am wondering if there is a manual for Airport Utility?
First off - I would like to "password protect" access to my Time Capsule.  Basically - any of the clients on my network can login to the Time Capsule and change the configuration....how do I create a password?????
Secondly - There are many Airport Utility screens that provide information and I am not sure what the information means?   When I look at my wireless clients they all have "signal", "noise" and "rate" and I am not sure how to interpret this information.  There are other screens that I also cannot interpret.
So...is there a manual for this utility?
And...can I password protect my time capsule?
    Thanks

There are a number of helpful AirPort guides. Two that I would recommend are:
    Apple AirPort Networks
Take Control of Your 802.11n AirPort Network
To directly answer your question about preventing access to the base station administration from network guests, you can set a Base Station password. Only users, that know this password, will be able to administer the base station.
You can set this using the AirPort Utility: AirPort Utility > Select the Time Capsule > Manual Setup > AirPort > Time Capsule tab > Time Capsule Password

  • What about a ipdad airport utility for setup

Why not a ipad airort utility to create a LAN during traveling ?

Why not suggest this to Apple?
Here on a Community Support area, we're all users...just like you. So, we cannot answer regarding decisions made by Apple.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
You also might want to make use of the "Profiles" feature of the Express. You can configure up to 5 different "profiles" to store the settings for different uses. So, you could have a "home" and "travel" profile, for example.

  • Airport Utility can't detect 2nd Airport Express

I recently bought a new Airport Express to extend the range of my network (from an existing AE). I've got a MBP and a MacBook. It all looks fine on the MBP - Airport Utility can see both Express devices, but the Macbook can only see the primary AE, even when it's virtually next to the MBP. he network throughput on the Macbook is shockingly bad. Not sure if the two problems are related - any ideas anyone?

Check your setting on both of the AirPort Express devices as follows using AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
    Main AirPort Express:
Click the Wireless tab below the icons
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Check mark next to Allow this network to be extended
    Update any changes
    Remote AirPort Express:
    Click the Wireless tab
Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network
Network Name = Same as Main
Check mark next to Allow wireless clients
Wireless Security = Same as Main
Wireless Password = Same as Main
    Update any changes
Power cycle the entire network..power everything down
Start the modem first and let it run a few minutes by itself
Start the Main AirPort Express the same way
Start the Remote AirPort Express the same way
Start your computers one at a time the same way

  • How to downgrade firmware without Airport Utility?

Since updating my Express firmware to 7.5.x I have not been able to connect to the internet.
After factory resets I am not even able to connect to the Express through Airport Utility even though it see's the router.
After six hours of trying and reading various post on the latest firmware it appears that it must be this latest firmware that is the problem.
I want to go back to 7.4 or 7.3 firmware on my Express but how can I do this without using Airport Utility?

I want to go back to 7.4 or 7.3 firmware on my Express but how can I do this without using Airport Utility?
You can't. Try a factory default reset on the AX again as follows:
Power it off for 30 minutes
Hold in the reset button and while you continue to hold it in, plug the AX back in to power
Keep holding the reset button until you see the amber light begin to blink more quickly and hold another 3-4 seconds when you see this and then release
Allow 40-45 seconds for the AX to restart until the amber light is blinking slowly. Then, temporarily connect an ethernet cable to the AX from your computer. Restart your computer and Open AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
Click directly on the word "Version" (3rd line) and you will be able to choose the firmware version you want.
There's no guarantee this will work, of course, if there is some other internal issue on the AX.

  • Is there aoss on an airport extreme? I thought there was some way via the Airport Utility?

is there aoss on an airport extreme? I thought there was some way via the Airport Utility.

Nothing called "aoss" is on an AirPort Extreme.
Using the Add Wireless Clients feature under the Base Station menu (top of screen) in AirPort Utility - Manual Setup, there are provisions to add a new wireless client using a PIN or allowing the device to connect on "First Attempt".
Whether this is compatible with "aoss", I cannot say. Please let us know about your findings if you try this.

  • Does airport utility have logging capability?

I would like to troubleshoot a problem that has arisen with my Windows XP box connecting to an airport to print to a usb printer attached to the airport (it suddenly stopped working after flawless use for a couple of years...and the only software update to the box has been iTunes). Does anyone know of a configuration option or command line switch that I can use to get ANY logging information from the airport utility, bonjour or even the Windows system layer so that I can at least see where it might be failing?

To access the logging feature of the AirPort Utility, just do the following:
AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > Advanced > Logs and Statistics > Logs
