WPS Printer Recommendations

We recently purchased an HP LJ m451nw printer and have failed to get it paired correctly with our Airport Extreme WIFI network (latest firmware).   The problem is apparently with HP firmware. That's a long and unrelated frustrating story.
My question is what WIFI printer recommendations have folks had success with, on a similar config?
The problems I'm trying to solve:
* Make the WIFI printer available to everyone on the Airport Extreme network
* Also, have the printer use both network connections (LAN and WIFI, something HP cannot do)
I probably should have inquired here first. :-)
The environment is a medium-sized office, so that would be factored in the size and quality of printer.   B&W only is fine, too -- ours just happens to be color.
Thank you in advance.

When you use HP stuff.. in a network.. WPS can be a problem.. but on the apple WPS system did you try first attempt not pin.. apparently most HP will not work with pin.
I have good reports of Brother.. I personally still use the older series HP with EIO slots.. Or MIO I think they became.. Sometimes old printers are better than new ones.
Ethernet or wireless will make no difference.. it is a network printer.. once on the network it should be accessible to every computer..  BUT airprint only works to wireless.. so that is the more important one.
As a work around.. there is nothing wrong with buying a cheap little TP-Link (or any of the china brands) N lite routers.. $30 or so.. and use it as AP on the network for the HP in particular or any PC .. that will still allow it to be used by any device on the network and even airprint should work.

  • We are trying to connect a new WPS printer to our network. We go into Airport utilities and then hit the Base Station drop down to access Add WPS printer. However, when you hover over the Base Station menu, nothing is highlighted. Suggestions?

We have tried to add a WPS Canon Pixma-Pro to our Airport Extreme network. However when we are in Utilities and try to access the Base Station drop down menu nothing is highlighted. Therefore we can not click on the Add WPS Printer title. I'm sure it is some user error that we are overlooking, but extremely frustrated. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Open AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon
Click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Now try the Base Station menu again

  • Printer RECOMMENDATIONS/Suggestions

I would love one or all of your wireless printer recommendations.
I had an HP and it wasn't great. Now I have a Cannon PIXMA and the colors are pale and can't scan wirelessly and just doesn't interact well with the Mac.
What are your best suggestions for a wireless all-in-one printer?

I've had good luck with my Epson Artisan 810.

  • Why won't my WPS printer and Tbox connect to my extended AirPort network?

I have an AirPort Extreme (7.6.4) in my home network and recently added an Airport Express to improve the signal coverage. Most devices connect quite happily to the extended network (iPad, iPhones, iMac, Windows PCs).
However, my Epson XP-200 (WPS) printer and Telstra Tbox refuse to connect when the Express is on. If I turn off the Express they both connect fine.
What do I need to do in the AirPort Utility to allow these devices to connect with the Express on?

Are you using the guest wireless network?
Sorry but the solution to some of these things is usually arcane.. if you are not prepared to reset and try again.. it is really hard to suggest other things to do.
But here are some of them.
    1. Set specific channels for 2.4ghz wireless.. Do not use 12 or 13 even though allowed in Australia because often US drivers are unaware of those channels.
    2. Remove all wireless security.. only as a test.. do the printer and Tbox work if there is no security. You are only testing briefly and do not need to reset everything.
    3. Do not use WDS to setup the printer. Plug the printer in by USB to the computer and redo its setup manually from scratch using the utility that came with the printer. This is often much more successful than using WDS with apple stuff. You will need to remove all the existing setups of the printer in the computer and start over.
    4. You can also always export the settings.. just change the AE and Express back to factory defaults.. and do as little setup as possible.. you don't have to change anything else except the one computer you use for the setup.. if it fails.. simply restore the settings. If it works you can then change the settings on all the rest of the equipment.. is it really that big a hardship??
    5. Why don't you extend using ethernet.. and see if you have the same issue?? You setup using the roaming network method.

If the issue is only when you extend wireless then it at least gives you a headstart to complain to Apple about their multiple incompatibilities.

  • Add WPS Printer ALWAYs grayed out

This is driving me nuts. I've searched high and low and can't figure out how to get this "Add WPS Printer..." menu item to light up. I'm following the (very poorly documented) proceedure provided by Canon for my Pixma Pro-100. What am I missing?

I was able to get it to ungray out by clicking on the AirPort Extreme and authenticating.  Then it appeared.
I had to do it a few times, and the sequence that seemed to work was starting WPS on the router first, then starting the search on the printer.

  • A3 Printer Recommendation

My canon 9000 printer has died so need new - A3 Printer - Recommendation on  a printer that will operate on my old power mac G5 - OS X 10.5.8 would be very much appreciated

    Welcome, Wombat!
I don't have a specific recommendation for an A#-capable unit (not a common size in my corner of the world) but can relate my experiences with finding printers for older Macs.
In helping a friend get a printer for an old Mac, we found no current multifunctions that did not require an Intel processor, something the G5 lacks. However, we did find some inexpensive print-only ink jets from Canon and Brother that, by getting drivers from their web sites, would support as far back as G3 processors and Mac OS10.3.9. We set him up with a Canon PIXMA 3100 (I think--that was about 18 months ago!).

Ping the IP address of the printer.
If you are doing this from windows, have you installed the airport utility for windows?

  • AEBS (2nd Gen) WPS printing is very slow

I recently purchased an HP Laserjet Professional 1102w (with Airprint) when Apple updated the utility to support WPS printer pairing. Occasionally documents will take upward 10 minutes to print when there is little complexity to the document. The printer will complete a page then wait several minutes to do the next page in the job. I believe this is something to do with the router because it is not evident when using tethered USB printing.

That tutorial really doesn't do anything any different than using the WPS configuration. That tutorial is just the manual procedure for the setup. It did illuminate one possibility for the slow printing. If you simply press the sign in the print & scan preference pane and add the "nearby" network printer you desire then it defaults to the Airprint driver for the device.
If you instead click "add printer or scanner" and select the printer from proceeding menu then it provides the ability to change the default driver to the HP Laserjet P1102w driver. I printed two consecutive multipage documents over the network without any delay. I will monitor the performance over the next several times I print and see if this is the true solution to the issue.
Intially though, it does appear that there is an Airprint driver issue either with the printer's handling of the protocol or something specific the Mac driver release. I haven't printed many items from my iPad or iPhone, so I can't really isolate it to a general Airprint driver issue or an Airprint support issue with this printer.

  • Add WPS Printer

In trying to add a WPS printer, the options under the BaseStation menu are there, but not available.  Why is this happening?  How can I fix it?

When follow the steps just above, this is what comes up.
Clicking on Add WPS Printer brings up the next option.
    And so forth.
Sorry, but I cannot duplicate the error that you are reporting.  Perhaps another user can help.

  • WPS Printer and AirPort Devices

If I successfully add a WPS printer to one Airport device such as an Airport Extreme and other Airport devices are connected to extend the network.
Do I need to add the WPS printer individually for each Airport device or will it be added to all other devices in the network?
It seems not, since if I switch on other Airport devices such as a TC, the WPS printer is no longer available.
So, if I add a Mac address to one Aiprot devices, the Mac addresses will be added/updated on all other devices! Right?
So? What's the problem with a WPS printer then?
C'mon guys don't tell me I need to add the printer for each Airport device manually.

I believe know how to set up an Airport main device such as an Airport Extreme connected to a DSL router.
I believe I am familiar with Apple Airport devices for many years, many firmware updates, different generation models and I know where to find the rest button, how to extend the network by using the same network name and WPA/WPA2 password, and I'lve learned how to deal with different airport utility versions.
The WPS printer added to the main device seems not to be recognised immediately by other roaming devices.
Even the main device seems to have trouble recognising the printer if I switch it ON.
I have to restart the main device connected to the DSL router in order to see the "green light" on the printer.

  • Printer recommendations please.

Hi, I need a new printer and would like recommendations as to what to buy. The last printer I bought was an HP 1220c for an Imac running OS 9. When I upgraded to OS X I lost many of the printer's features, booklet and two sided printing most frustratingly, and never regained them. I need booklet printing, two sided printing, and preferably large format printing. I am looking at two printers from HP in particular, the OfficeJet 7300 at <http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF06a/18972-238444-410635-12019-f51-39 1181.html>, and the Deskjet 9800 at <http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/productdetail.do?product_code=C8165A%23A2L&tab=overview&storeName=storefronts&landing=p rinters&category=inkjets&subcat1=seeall&catLevel=3#defaultAnchor>. HP claims that they are MAC compatible, but I don't trust them. If anyone has personal experience with either of these printers, I would appreciate your opinions of them.
    Thank you, Caoim

I also have a HP DeskJet 1220c and had problems with it using OSX. I tried many solutions (selected print drivers), but ended up purchasing a print driver for the 1220c from PrintFab. http://www.printfab.net/ I had to experiment with the menus to get the best print quality, but finally got good results. I don't print two-sided, so I don't know if that would still be a problem. (There is a menu for paper handling.) You can download a demo version to try and see if it works for you. Just another option you can try before purchasing a new printer.

  • Personal, Color, Inkjet Printer -- Recommendations?

I need to get a new printer, and am looking for advice on a good model.
The only things I require, is that it be:
    * inkjet
    * color printing
    * tray loading

    A few thoughts:
    - Look into the ongoing costs for ink. I have a trusty old hp G85 multifunction for which each ink cartridge cost about $50 but they're monstrously huge compared with the teeny cartridges in new inkjets. Even so, I've moved most of my printing and my family's to a big office-class printer because I was shelling out too much for ink. I'm not suggesting against ink jet, only that you look into the cost/page kinda thing for your candidates. (Although maybe you already knew that and you were just hoping to curtail the search by asking the forum)
    - If it's for more than one machine I'd absolutely recommend getting one with an Ethernet attachment. USB-attached printer sharing is not great on any OS and carries with it the restriction that the attached computer be powered up & awake. Even my G85 now is on the Ethernet (via hp 300x)
    - If it supports Postscript you won't be in driver ****, no matter what the OS and future presents.
Q: Priority is color documents or color photos?

  • All-In-One Printer recommendations please !

Folks, I need a replacement for my HP PSC 1210 which no longer scans under Leopard.
Am going slightly crazy wondering whether to take a chance trusting the manufacturers' claims of compatibility or spending days reading their fine-print where there VERY often lurks that little "Sorry, no scanning" detail or some such.
And *APPLE aren't really very much help either* with a list of supported printers that is dated May 22 2008 and was probably largely compiled before then. Half the printers on their list are only supported by Gutenprint or not at all by Modern Drivers. Maybe I'm a snob but I wouldn't mind at least starting with a driver written by the manufacturer...
    *So, any thoughts ?*
Would like to take another chance on Epson - for the quality of their inks and colours - but their Leopard-supporting printers claims are 95% contradicted by the Apple page ! Might end up with the devil I know - HP, even though their print margins are way too large for liking.
Light home use: occasional scanning, quick photo prints, BW docs.... there must be something out there that people are happy with, right ? ;~))
    Cheers!!!

Woops, no - don't need faxing.
Well, I may try and save it but I'm pretty sure that I found it on the "sorry..." list somewhere. As I say, I've managed to get good print functions back again with a funny combo of hjips, foomatic and gplgs- so maybe there's a scanning equivalent lurking out there.
re: C7280 - that sounds like a recommendation to me ! Are you saying that all functions work as specified using the HP drivers ? COuld be a winner and its smack in the right price bracket.
    Keep 'em coming folks !

  • Looking for laser printer recommendations (please read!)

I couldn't find a spot that fit this question and although I may not receive any answers here, this is a very active forum with members who are unafraid of new technology, so here's letting one rip...
OK, I've not had a laser printer in a number of years - when my beloved LaserWriter II NTX gave up the ghost. I find that I am lately, however, printing more and more text-only or text-heavy documents at home and going through black ink cartridges like a hungry lumberman through flapjacks. Although I've not looked into laser technology for years, I am wondering if it may not be more economical to print these pages on a 'personal' laser printer (I know that toner cartridges are not cheap, either, but they are less expensive, from what I've read, than using inkjet to print text-heavy documents) than to continue racking up rebate dollars by selling my soul for black ink cartridges.
So I am looking for a laser printer that can handle about 2,500-4,000 pages a month AND (here's the kicker!) have automatic duplex printing capabilities... I've never had this ability on a laser printer but I understand it's available on some models these days.
I'm not looking for an 'office capable' printer - maybe more like a 'small office'? No real need for Ethernet, yet, if it's a standard feature, I would certainly use it. A small footprint would be nice.
As I wander into the local Office Depot I am overwhelmed by the choices and yet stupefied to find that the 'hang tags' on many of the models don't really give too much information - page one can expect from a cartridge, connectivity options, duplexing capabilities (I seem to find none, yet am certain that I've read of their existence).
    So my criteria:
    1. monochrome
    2. PostScript emulation (unless CUPS supports lasers? It'd difficult to tell by the ad hype yet Apple does seem to have drivers or, at least, Brother and HP laser printers). I don't want to be limited to 72 typefaces...
    3. automated duplexing
    4. small footprint
    5. more economical to operate than an inkjet at 2,500-4000 pages per month
    6. networkable, though served through another CPU via USB is fine
    7. brand is not important - as long as reliability is high (and, like Brother, for instance, is supported by Apple)
Please leave a message if you should have ANY suggestions or, if you can point me towards a website with a good overview of what's available (and with actual tests would even be better!) I would be very appreciative.

    Jamie,
I just wanted to thank you once again for your suggestion of the HP LaserJet 1320. I picked one up last week at Office Depot and, after I receive my $50 mail-in rebate, my total cost will have been $139.99!
The printer itself had an 'instant savings' of $100 off the SRP of $399.99 (and - for those who might be interested - this instant savings continues until June 30 - see the HP website for details.), bring it down to $299.99; I had an $100 Office Depot 'rewards' card plus a $10 'instant off' coupon from the previous week, bringing it down to $189.99 and there was a mail-in rebate for $50 (which, according to the paperwork, I can expect within 6 weeks) so... I was able to get a $400 printer for less than $140 (+ tax, of course).
Still, even with $14 tax, I have to assume that I would have paid at least as much in shipping AND I only had to drive for less than 5 miles, spend 20 minutes explaining why I did not want or need either the extended warranty or the Super Special Laser Printer Official Office Depot Very Special Customer Service Box (a cable, some paper, and a few other doodads for $60) and now I've printed a couple of hundred sheets and love the thing.
Had it not been for your recommendation, I likely would have forgotten the $100 Office Depot card until it expired and would not have sought out the printer there in the first place.
It's such a warm and fuzzy feeling to get such a deal on such a terrific little printer... and, so, I thank you, again.

  • Laser printer recommendations please

I need a printer that will work well with my 2008 iMac (Snow Lep) ideally wirelessly.  I need printing, scanning and copying - not huge quantities but need the quality to be good. My budget is around £150 and if I can find something that doesn't require cartridges that cost £1m each that would be a bonus!  There is so much contradictory info out there any recommendations would be gratefully received.

    got a Samsung SCX-4500W
    it's laserprinter, scanner, copy
    it's wifi
it works on osx it works on windows8 pro
it works on iphone and ipad (if I use the free samsung  printing app)
or if I use the netgear Genie program running on one of the computers
