Wraptor DCP and 5.1

I have used Wraptor to create a DCP. The vision is fine but the 5.1 is being a pain. I put the .wav tracks into PP in the order: 1 - L, 2 - R, 3 - C. 4 - LFE, 5 - Ls, 6 - Rs. I checked the 5.1 in the export dialogue and got something strange. Using Audacity to open the audio .mxf I found 1 & 2 might be a mono mix of the L & R 3 & 4 were bare and 5 & 6 seemed to be the same as 1 & 2. I then searched for more info and found that the manual for Wraptor seems to only refer to FCP and Comressor. The Compressor instructions were to put the 5.1 into AES stereo pairs: 1 = L/R, 2 = C/LFE, 3 = Ls/Rs but that seems to deliver similar results. Do I need to format for 5.1 in PP?
cheers

im not familiar with the wraptor program, but maybe you need the mixer and a custom multichannel sequence to assign each track to a channel out.  here is a link to the multichannel in premiere if you want.  The Video Road – Multichannel Audio in Premiere Pro

  • Wraptor DCP and missing Maximum Bit Depth option

DCPs are made from 12bit JPEG200 frame files wrapped is a MFX container. But there is no Maximum Bit Depth option in Wraptor DCP codec for AME8.
    Does it means:
    1. Wraptor DCP has by default Maximum Bit Depth checked on, so it correctly produces high depth color renders?
    2. OR, Wraptor DCP ignores AME Maximum Bit Depth, so it always renders in 8 bits and than scale up to 12bits (what is a waste of information)?
The following article implies that option 2 is the correct case, what would be a shame for a such quality demand workflow as DCP production.

Wraptor DCP output is not working for me on a feature length film.  Am I missing something?
Symptom:  simply hangs at various stages of the job.  No message, never crashes... just STOPS on one frame and never resumes.

Going to try it with an older machine.  Any suggestions?

  • Exported Wraptor dcp File-Size difference and quality loss

    Hi,
I am currently working on exporting a short trailer (45 sec) to wraptor-dcp with AME straight from an After Effects project.
In the export-preferences the estimated files size is about 8000MB (check out the screenshot).
But the finalized dcp only has a size of 180MB. That irritated me so I downloaded a demo of easyDCP to check the material. The dcp is working fine but the quality is a mess even in comparison to a small mp4 (take a look at the second comparison screenshot: dcp left and mp4 (H264) on the right). Gradients are destroyed and chunky.
Also with the color transformation off, the colors feel dull and only fit if I choose 'X'Y'Z » R'G'B (P3). Should it be that way? How can I enhance the quality of the dcp?
    All the best,
    Jay
1 Export Settings (I just choose the wraptor setting in AME '2K Digital Cinema Flat' and did not change any settings)

Will there be a new update coming soon?
Problem: Wraptor DCP will play on GDC-TMS 8.0 at one theater and will not play at another theater running GDC-TMS 9.0
Identified: Xsize/Ysize problems when reading on GDC-TMS 9.0. XOsize is wacked!
Although GDC-TMS is part of the problem...please help fix the Wraptor DCP part of the problem!

  • Missing Wraptor DCP Format for Export

    Good morning.
I have a fresh install of Windows 7 64bit and a new install of Premiere Pro CC 2014 8.1.0 (81) Build.  When opening a previous project from Premiere Pro CC I do not have the Wraptor DCP format for exporting.  If I create a new project and sequence and dump a video file on the timeline and try and export it's still not there.  I checked the plug-ins/common folder and I do have the Wraptor.prm file in there.   I've searched and searched the web and have not seen an issue like this before. I did see something from Oct about it not being supported yet, but I have a second Windows machine (Windows 7 64bit) that I installed PPro on and it's there.  I should note that in Encore (build 8.1.0.122) I'm missing the Cinema System Preset with Wraptor DCP too.  Is there a prerequisite for getting the DCP option that I missed?  I don't remember doing anything special on the other machine for it.  Also, to note, I have uninstalled both and reinstalled to make sure it wasn't a botched install.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks.

Solved my own issue.  Apparently in the barrage of Windows updates I had not yet grabbed SP1.  Once that downloaded Wraptor DCP was now a selection in both PPro and Encore.  Anyone else that comes across this in Windows 7, make sure you have SP1 installed.

  • 23.976 with Wraptor DCP

I have a project in Premiere Pro CC 2014 with a frame rate of 23.976. I recorded the footage with the Canon 5D Mk3 and this framerate came out of the camera with the 24fps setting.
Now I will have a screening at a local cinema, which requests a DCP for its digital cinema projector. As I recently upgraded to the 2014 version of PP, the Wraptor DCP export setting comes very handy. The problem is, the only framerate that DCP offers, is 24fps. Is that a problem when exporting? Will I have timing/sync problems?
Hopefully someone can answer that question, thanks in advance!

Your DCP will work BUT there is huge caveat.  If you send the rapture plugin a source file that is not already at 24.00 fps it will interpolate frames to get you 24.00.  In other words, it doesn't change the length at all, it simply messes with your lovingly crafted video to spit something out at 24,00.  A better bet is for you to do the conversion from 23.976 to 24.00 yourself.  A simple workflow on Mac is to take a ProRes master of your video, open that in Cinema Tools, conform it to 24.00.  This will make your file playback at 24.00. It's a fraction of a percent slower and will lengthen the TRT by a fraction, but if you make sure your audio files are baked into the master they will stay in sync.    Then, run your file through Wraptor and it won't mess with your frames.  BTW, neither Adobe or Wraptor explain this anywhere, it took some work by very careful folks who tested it to figure out how it works.  I find in infuriating that they refuse to publish proper documentation for a feature they constantly mention in their marketing.

  • Wraptor DCP cropping image in cinema projection

Aside from the major problems with both MediaEncoder's DCP Wraptor preset crashing if you try and run it through a Premiere project, I have been able to create a DCP from a ProRes version of my project. However, testing the DCP today at a cinema with a Christie projector and a GDC Cinema Server, the image projected on the screen was only the upper-left quadrant of my film, which it centered in the silver screen at the very bottom. Again, the image is not reduced or shrunk, but is rather only the upper-left quadrant of my film. 3/4 of the image is missing.
There are no options I can see on the DCP setting that should make any difference. It should have taken my ProRes 1920x1080 version of the film (which looks fine, nothing cropped or missing) and converted it as it says it can. The preview window of MediaEncoder does not show any issues. What is going on and how do I fix this? The premiere for this film is in a week and I have limited ability to keep testing it at the theater.
    MediaEncoder version is 2014.2
Generated on iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011)
    3.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    24 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB

    Update:
the company that makes the DCP plugin for AME gave me access to their DCP player program. It only runs for 30 days but worked to play the files. They looked fine. However, they simply don't work on the projector.
I Am uploading my DCP to them so they can look at it as well. I have also been in contact with a projector expert and he says the he has major issues with the Adobe/Wraptor DCP system. Of the last three he made and projected, one was substandard and had major quality issues, one had some compatibility issues and only one was working properly. He Also recomended OpenDCP and there is a perfect tutorial for it on Vimeo. He said the quaity was much better with it.
I am in the process of making one more test but using OpenDCP to do it and may jetison Wraptor's plugin. AME/Wraptoo crashes every single time when you try and run it from a Premire timeline, even on three different machines. I'm getting very discouraged with Adobe's reliability for pro work.
I will redo the test with OpenDCP andet you know how the simulator goes as well as the projector test asson as I can get to them. I should have the aoftware test done by Monday. Will try and get back to the theater by midweek.

  • Wraptor DCP - FAIL

Just a warning to anyone trying to use the Wraptor plugin. Just tested a DCP today that it exported and it failed at the theater.  The DCP loaded but the content on screen was shrunk down to the middle bottom. Totally bizarre and makes DCP export from Premiere/Media encoder totally useless (sigh)

AFAIK, this is beyond the capabilities of FCPX/Compressor. This company makes a plug-in, which I have to say I have no experience with. Here is a thread that may give you some other ideas. Good luck.

  • Wraptor DCP export in premiere pro cc

i was trying to export a one minute sequence with Wraptor DCP format. After clicking export button the encoding progress window hanging with 0%. Can anyone please help to resolve this issue?

Looks like this may be something to do with CC 2014 versus CC 7.2.2, which is the latest that my software allows me to get.
Can anyone explain to me how this upgrade works? We're currently paying a monthly subscription for Creative Cloud, is there an additional cost for CC 2014?
    Thanks

  • Wraptor DCP plugin not working with AME CC 2014

    Platform:
    10.9.2 on a MacPro 2014, 64GB RAM, D500's 6-core
    Issue:
Media Encoder hangs when rendering a 97 minute project as a DCP using wraptor plugin.  Always gets to a different frame before stalling - furthest i've gotten is 25 minutes in.
I've also tested the Wraptor plugin on an older machine with an NVIDIA 4800 using CUDA and had the same result.  As the source i've tried rendering from the timeline via dynamic linking AND from an assembled Quicktime - neither works, same symptoms.
Any suggestions / experience using Wraptor successfully on long files?  (NOTE:  It DOES work when rendering smaller portions of the film, but never for the full film).

Update:  Haven't been able to complete a wraptor render on my MacPro late 2013/2014 at all - using hardware or software rendering.
Was able to complete a software render of a 97 minute project on a MacPro late 2009 but after playing it back at a local theater it was unusable for theatrical viewing.  Compression was VERY noticeable in the shadows, especially during graphics sequences using After Effects light sources (completely unacceptable during these sequences).
Same project rendered using OpenDCP looked great.

  • Wraptor 2k DCP Crashing

Im trying to export a feature film using the Wraptor DCP and it won't even start, flat out gives out a "Export error, Unknown Error" on Media Encoder and flat out crashes if I do it through Adobe Premiere CC.
I have plenty of space since I was aware of the 1.8tb size
Im using an IMAC 3.4 Ghz I7 with 32gb DDr3
Any idea what am I doing wrong?

Hey MMguro thanks for taking the time to answer.
Im using CC2014, I tried BOTH with CUDA and OpenCL rendering and it doesn't even start, Adobe crashes and thats the end of that .I tried to queue the project directly to Media Encoder  but that causes Media Encoder to crash in the exact same way. Its pretty annoying to say the least lol

  • Wrator DCP problems in AME CC 2014

DCP rendering fro AME is great, but I am having some problems:
    1. Wrator DCP informs a fixed bitrate convertion of 250Mbps, but I am geting final DCPs with variable and very low bitrates, as 38Mkps or even lower.
EDITED: It seams that is not a problem at all. QuVIS claims to use a Quality Priority Encoding method, so encoding bitrates are variables up to 250Mbps aiming to a studio quality standard, and not fixed as I thought. Good indeed.
    2. NeoDCP player won't play some DCP due to unmatched frame numbers form audio and video MXF
    3. Render crashes sometimes with no apparent reason.
PS: I am using the new recomended update from QuVIS site: DCP Packaging for Adobe Media Encoder 8 | QuVIS

The problem of some players not playing (some) DCP correctly is related do unmatched number of frames not correctly informed in CPL files.
Some times Wraptor DCP produces a MFX sound 1 frame bigger than MXF video. I think it is related to original sound bit depth conversion (not sure).
One solution is (in the case of problems) to edit CPL XML file and change IntrinsicDuration parameter to correct represent audio MXF duration.
            <MainSound>
              <Id>urn:uuid:9d1b0299-0282-498d-bb29-849f8fee8af8</Id>
              <AnnotationText>DSC_5845_dcp_9d1b0299-0282-498d-bb29-849f8fee8af8_audio.mxf</AnnotationTe xt>
              <EditRate>24 1</EditRate>
             <IntrinsicDuration>1015</IntrinsicDuration>
              <EntryPoint>0</EntryPoint>
              <Duration>1015</Duration>
            </MainSound>
OR, even batter, use OpenDCP to repack audio and video MFX files in a new DCP, with a lot more.
