WRE54G Can't connect to setup page

I'm using the WRE54G unit and I cannot connect to the unit.  I have connected it to my computer using a cat5 cable but I still cannot connect to the setup page.  Right now I'm getting one solid light.  I started trying to connect to the unit when my wireless network kept showing 'no internet
access' and have been having this problem for several days now.  I tried using a static ip address and reseting the unit but nothing has worked.  I can't ping the unit either.
I'm very good with computers but I can't figure this thing out.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

I have an IBM R50 laptop running Windows 7. I purchased the WRE54G used but "supposed" to be in excellent working order. I have a Linksys WRT54G v2.1 with firmware of 4.70.1. According to support site it is supported. I have the RE attached directly to the laptop and have followed the instructions on this page but am still unable to get into the RE. I currently have the Red link light and Blue activity light on the RE. My router is locked down with WEP and MAC filtering. I have gone so far as to add the MAC of the RE to the filter list but no joy. I use an alternate IP on my router but think if I can get into the RE I will be able to config it out the rest of the way. I have reset the RE to factory according to the instructions. I am at a loss.......

  • Can't get into setup page

I have been using my WRT54G wireless router for a couple years with no problem until my company put a new router/modem (pannaway) in my home. Now I need to enter the settings manually but I have pressed the reset button for more than 30 seconds more than once and have typed in 192.168.1.1 the sign in thing comes up and I leave user name blank and type in admin as password but it says HTTP/1.0 401 Authorization Required
so now how can I get in to configure manually? I am using windows vista.

You need to try again to reset the router to factory defaults.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
    1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5) Power down the router.
    6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is dead.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware. After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
If you need additional help, please state your ISP, the make and model of your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.

I try to go onto the setup page at http://192.168.1.1/ and it gives me the page cannot be displayed message. Can anyone help?

    What router are you using?
Click on "Start" > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt
A black DOS box will appear.
Type in "ipconfig"  (with no quotes), and hit the "Enter" key.
Look at the "Default Gateway".  Is it 192.168.1.1  ?
If not, point your browser to the Default Gateway, then try to login to your router.

  • WRT150N and WRE54G: can I connect these two?

    Hi there,
I have been using my WRT150N v1.1 for a couple of years and have always had spotty Wi-Fi signal on my deck (but it's been flawless within my home). My brother just gave me an extra WRE54G v3 which he no longer uses. So... I was wondering:
    - Can I use the  WRE54G with my WRT150N?
I've been reading on this for hours and I've come to the conclusion that "no" is the answer since my WRT150N is not a "WDS-based product." Is this final determination correct?
The one great thing that I have going for me is that I already have a very long Ethernet cable running from my WRT150N all the way out to my deck (so that I can plug my laptop directly into the network when I am on my deck, due to Wi-Fi not being strong).
I was hoping that I would then not have to rely on WDS to use the WRE54G. Is there a way to set the WRE54G up so that instead of being a "repeater," it acts as an "access point?" I was thinking that I could plug the WRE54G into the aforementioned Ethernet cable and use the Wi-Fi capability of the WRE54G to connect my laptop and iPhone to my LAN.
Is there a way? Thanks so much!
    CO

Yes the WRE54G is not compatible with WRT150N Router. You cannot setup WRE54G in an AP mode as it doesn't have that option to do it. May be you need to get an Access point which will do that work for you.

  • Can't connect to a server?  Error message

Hi, I have what I believe to be a strange problem. My internet service seems to be fine except I can't connect to any pages related to my internet service provider. I have no problems connecting to any other site page. When i try to connect to my providers home page or webmail service, I get an error:
can't open page because can't connect to the server www.9online.fr
How is it possible that this is the only page that does not work, and, it's my provider? Called them, they say there is no problem on their end, and that they can connect on a mac. Is it possible to block only one page? Was it something I might have done? And, is there a fix.
    Many thanks,
    M

I ran into a problem with my provider's personal web space. Basically, all I can see now is HTML code instead of the graphics I loaded over a year ago. I tried it from a PC on my LAN and it works fine. I can only assume that a OS X update did me in.
Are you by any chance using Verizon? That's where my problem lies.

  • Setup Page Error

Hello, I have been trying for a couple days to figure out why I can not acces the setup page for my wireless router. I put in the IP address, and logged in as prompted. It goes to the setup screen from there, but most of it doesnt load. The drop down fields are empty, there are no tabs (not even links where the images werent loading). I am just posting to see if anyone has encountered this problem before.
I am using an ibook g4, and I have tried with both Safari and Firefox. I don't know if this would have anything to do with it but i have encountered similar problems in the past so I thought i would include it.
Also, when I was talking to the 'tech support' they said that it was a firewall that was keeping the page from loading, however my firewall is off.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    sp

Hi... If you firewall is off, also reduced the security setings on your MAC and Also try to Upgrade the firmware of the router.

  • Cant connect to the WRE54G setup page.

    Title says it all!
I can't seem to connect to the setup page, the request keeps timing out.
    The router is a WRT54G V2.2
The expander seems to work, it can find the Wireless network if I remove the WPA2 security encryption. That's not something I want to do since I dont want any filthy pirates on my network!
I tried plugging it directly into the router, the computer. Unsure about my IP address though. It should be fine since my gateway seems to be 192.168.1.1
    I appreciate any help.

First of  all connect the WRE54G with the Router through the Cable and then connect a Computer with the Router through a cable again.
Then try opening up the setup page of the WRE54G with the Default IP address 192.168.1.240 if that doesn't work then reset the WRE54G and power cycle.. As the lights gets stable then try to open the setup page again  with the Default IP address 192.168.1.240 and try updating the firmware as well by downloading it from the Cisco website...
Secondly the highest Security Mode that can be set is - WPA Pre-shared Key..

  • Can't connect to router setup page

    Hi,
I have a WRT54G wireless router, version 2.1. It's been working fine for the last 3 years and suddenly the WLAN light is out and there's no communication between router & computer. I've tried resetting it (via reset button, and unplugging power) a million times with no results. A techie thought maybe I needed a firmware upgrade -- which I've downloaded, but now I still have to access the setup page to install it, which seems to be impossible. The 192.168.1.1 page won't come up at all. (And when I went into the command prompt, it said my Default Gateway was 207.237.223.1 -- which, of course, I've tried, but that won't come up either.) I've turned off firewalls and antivirus programs, thinking they might be the problem -- still nothing. Any suggestions/advice would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks in advance!

  • WRT54G V8 Can't connect to web based setup page?

Earlier I reset my router and was able to use 192.168.1.1 to visit the web based setup page while trying to re-establish a home network now that I have a new computer using Windows 7 which can not use the easylink advisor. I was able to get on the page to update my SSID and WEP key. But when my wireless devices were still having problems connecting to the internet I tried to go back to the page and found that I can't get it to connect, though my desktop is able to connect to other internet sites just fine.
Does anyone know what i can be doing wrong? I am using Verizon DSL. I was able to ping the router and all tests showed that it was connected fine, yet I still cannot get on the setup page and my laptop still can't connect to the network. I have tried resetting the router again, and still nothing. And yes, I have gone through numerous power cycles. I also tried going though the network map on my computer, but the computer says it was unable to create a map for it even though at the time I had it listed as a Home network.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Wireless connections to 192.168.1.1  often fail.  When accessing the router setup pages, always use a computer that is wired to the WRT54G.
If the above does not solve your problem, then here are my other tips for viewing the router setup pages:
You do not need an Internet connection. The router's "web pages" are built into the router.
Use Internet Explorer, it usually works.
    JavaScript must be enabled.
Use a computer that is wired to the router.
In the non-working computer, temporarily turn off your software firewall.
Point your browser to 192.168.1.1 , then login to your router. Your user name should be left blank. Your password is "admin" (with no quotes), unless you changed it.
If you are using Zone Alarm, right click on the ZA icon in the system tray (lower right corner of screen) and then click "Shutdown ZoneAlarm", and see if this fixes your problem. If this does not work, try the following with Zone Alarm: Open the ZAISS control center, go to Privacy, then temporarily turn off Ad Blocking and Cookie Control, and see if that fixes your problem.
Some Zone Alarm users have reported that adding 192.168.1.1 to their list of "trusted" addresses fixed the problem. This trick might also work with other firewalls.
If you are using Noton Internet Security with the Add-on Pack, be sure to turn off the Pop-up Blocker, and the Ad blocker. Some users have reported that they needed to uninstall the entire Norton Add-on Pack.
If you cannot get anything at 192.168.1.1 then perhaps this is not your router's address. Go to "Start" > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
A black DOS box will appear. Type in "ipconfig" (with no quotes), then hit the Enter key. Look at the "Default Gateway". Is it 192.168.1.1 ? Point your browser to the "Default Gateway", then login to your router.
If the above fails, disconnect your modem from the router, and try again. If this corrects your problem, then most likely you have a "modem-router" rather than an ordinary modem. Report back with this problem, and also state the make and exact model number of your modem (not the router).
If all of the above fails, power down your entire system, unplug it from the wall, wait one minute, then power up and try again.
If all of the above tips fail, then reset the router to factory defaults: Power down the router and disconnect all wires from it. Wait one minute. Power up the router, allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes), then press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release the button and allow the router to reset and reboot ( 2-3 minutes). Power down router. Wait one minute. Connect one computer, by wire, to a LAN port on the router. Boot up system.  The router should work, but you will need to setup your router again from scratch.  If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
If you still have trouble, then you need to download and install (or re-install) the latest firmware for your router. After the firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch. If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.

  • (WRT160N V3 router) Issue connecting to web-based setup page

I am currently having 2 issues with my router. The first issue is the fact that I can not connect to my router's setup page (192.168.1.1). When I type the ip into my browser I get an error saying unable to connect to it. I have an internet connection and can connect to other websites perfectly fine, so the only issue I have is the setup page.
The second problem is my wireless connection. Over the past few days, I have started to experience a major ping increase in online games, and a speedtest (and pingtest) showed an issue with my wireless connection. Download speeds are normally 19-20mbps and upload speeds are normally above 6-7mbps. Recently the speeds have become about .39mbps and 2mbps respectively. Unfortunately because I can not connect to my router's setup page I can not modify any configurations that would allow me to possibly pinpoint the issue with the wireless connection.
tl;dr: Can not connect to my router's setup page in order to modify configuration settings to speed up my wireless connection which has been having issues.
Edit: Hardwired connections to the router are getting about 28mbps download as they should be. These computers also can not connect to the setup page.

You'd have to reconfigure your router again.
Setting-Up a Router with DSL Internet Service
Setting-Up a Router with Cable Internet Service
Dont forget to set up the security as well.

  • Can't connect to Airport Express using Linksys WRE54g?

I am having problem connecting to Airport Express using Linksys WRE54G, under the following circumstances.
    Here's my setup.
I am using Linksys WAG200G modem/wireless router in the studies. My house is fairly big and very weak signal in living room. Hence I added Linksys WRE54G Wireless-G Range Expander in living room.
I have two HiFi. One in studies and the other in living room. macbook and external HDD where I store all my musics sit in studies.
I use Airport Express (AE1) to stream music from macbook to studies HiFi. Works fine.
So I connect AE1 to living room HiFi. Macbook still in studies. The problem is iTunes cannot connect to AE1 now. However I still able to detect AE1, open/change settings using Airport Utility on macbook in the studies.
Now I bring macbook to living room. AE1 works!
What I intend to setup is,
    1. WAG200G, macbook and external HDD in my studies.
    2. AE1 connect to studies HiFi. I am planning to get another Airport Express for living room HiFi.
    3. Control the playlist using iPhone Remote and listen music in living room.
    Question:
    1. Did iTunes connect directly to Airport Express without going thru network router?
    2. How should I setup Airport Express in this case?
Appreciate anyone who can help me on this. Thank you.

    pss.
actually, is it possible to do what i'm trying to do... the guy in the Apple store said that i can connect to the Netgear router for my internet connection, and Airfoil can separately connect to the Airport Express to play music...
the way i've set it up so far, i can do either, but i can't do both... or do i need to somehow connect both wireless stations together...??
