WRE54G Killed my internet?

Ok so i had a WRE54G And it worked great for a while, then one day i turned it on and my pc would connect but no internet. Ok so i reset and tried again...success. Then the next day the same thing happens but now no matter what i do it doesnt work. Well I no longer have it but my freakin internet doesnt work anymore on any wireless network. Somebody fix my **bleep** internet

well..in order to use the range expander , you need to configure the wireless settings same as that on the wireless router..ensure that they are identical...if any problems , let me know the router model number and the range expnader version number...also , let me know the firmware version on both of them

  • Starting iSight kills my internet connection- why?

Every time I start using iSight on my Macbook it kills my internet connection. I've tried with Skype, Yahoo IM, and even Chat Roulette but I always lose internet connection as soon as I start using it. My Macbook is almost 5 years old but have never had a problem before. This just started recently. I haven't switched internet providers or anything either. Please help, it's really frustrating.

Changing your router channel number may help.  If not, see the following KB Article:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 How to Troubleshoot iSight

  • Current iTunes upgrade kills ALL internet connection to computer

I'm using iTunes on Windows XP SP3.  Previous versions were not a problem.  I upgraded to the current version (11.0.2) and lost all internet connectivity, not just to the iTunes store, but to ALL applications; my computer reported that NO internet connection was present at all.  Doing a system restore resolved this, but the upgrade left some remnant that has rendered the previously working version of iTunes inoperable; when I execute it, it suggests I download the current version to correct the problem, but of course that kills my internet connection altogether and thus is not a solution.
Googling this has indicated fixes involving:
    1) Deleting the iTunesPrefs.XML file
    --> That didn't work.
    2) A solution involving executing "netsh winsock reset" at the command prompt and then rebooting.
    --> That didn't work either.
In fact, nothing I could find online worked.  I am NOT using Norton, McAfee, or any other anti-virus or firewall that would be causing the conflict.  Again, I'm using Windows XP SP3, and have a direct internet feed into my computer.
What can be done to fix this?  Currently I cannot use iTunes at all on my computer because of the upgrade and the havoc it's caused (the System Restore did NOT restore the previous working version of iTunes; when I execute it, it claims a component is missing and I should download and install the current version...)
    Many thanks in advance,
    Tom

  • Downloading large programs on Mac App Store kills my internet connection.

Most downloads work fine, but larger ones won't even start downloading.  I have to manually reset my DSL modem to get my internet connection back.  Seems to only happen with files that are > 1GB in size (Lion, Knights of the Old Republic).  If I connect to an external VPN the download works fine, but trying to directly download kills the modem.
Don't know why it only does this with larger files.  Is it making multiple connections that might be overwhelming my modem?  Anything I can do to troubleshoot or fix this - no error messages come up (just a dead connection), and I can see no logs to try to track down the issue.
Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I have had the same exact problem with the same exact app (Knights of the Old Republic) I have been having issues with every download from the App store. Sometimes the downloads will freeze other times (like now) it will kill my internet all together. I dont get why I can download anything fine through chrome or steam but the App store just will not work at my house. The only reason I am using it is because I have a gift card but honestly the service is so inconsinstant that I would rather not use it at all. If your still having issues (even though its been a few months) I would suggest trying a different Internet connection. When I went to an apple store to see if they could help I just used their internet and the download worked fine.

  • Everytime I turn on Outlook, it kills my internet connection and I have to reboot the router

As the title says, each time I turn on Outlook with Office 365, it kills my internet connection and I have to reboot the router. I can still login to the router admin and do a soft reboot. This kills the internet for all the computers on my network as well.
The weird exception to this is when I'm connected to my work VPN, then everything is fine.  Also, should be noted, it never did this at first...then started doing it randomly and stopped after a while...now a few months later, it started doing it agian.
Is there some sort of weird port forwarding I should be using?
I'm running through an Exchange server.
    Windows 7 Pro
    Router is a D-Link 857 - HD Media Router 3000..running latest firmware.
Everything is setup standard. No firewalls except the standard Windows firewall and the router is a really basic config.
Please any insight would be great!

    Hello AyaTheBookWorm,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I can definitely understand how this is frustrating, I would feel the same way.  To troubleshoot this issue please see the steps below, as well as checking out the Wireless Diagnostics.
Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly
Your Mac may not not stay connected to your Wi-Fi network reliably.
Your Mac may stop accessing the Internet during use.
    Solution
Use these steps if your computer disconnects from its Wi-Fi network unexpectedly.
Check your range to the Wi-Fi router and reduce the effect of interference.
If your computer is too far from your Wi-Fi router or your environment has too much Wi-Fi interference, then your computer may not detect the Wi-Fi network properly. The easiest way to check for range limits with your Wi-Fi network is to move your computer or your Wi-Fi router closer together and make sure that there are no obstructions (such as walls, cabinets, and so forth) between the router and your computer.
See Potential sources of wireless interference for more information about interference and solutions.
Try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network. If your computer works fine when connected to a different Wi-Fi network, then the issue may be related to your network router or ISP. In that case, contact the manufacturer of your router or your ISP.

  • App Store does not load & kills the internet connection

    Hello I'm currently using MBP 13' 2011 v. 10.7.2.
App Store window pops up after opening, but nothing actually shows up. It shows as if it is trying to load the App Store with the spinning indicator, but the app remains empty. Not only it does not load, it also kills whatever internet connection I've attempted on Safari. YouTube videos stop loading once App Store opens, for example.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

  • Safari Killing My Internet Connection?

    Ok, here is the background:
I usually run 2 internet browsers...Opera 9.26 is my primary browser, and I've been using Safari for items that Opera cannot correctly or sufficiently provide (usually Gmail, Facebook, CNN, and 1 or 2 other sites) I also run iChat and Colloquy as other internet-use apps.
For the past 1-2 weeks, Safari, I believe, has intermittently killed my internet connection. Usually it will be loading a local newspaper website or acting strangely on Facebook...then it will start to be very slow, the rainbow sphere will appear, and my internet will die...as in, nothing on Opera works, iChat disconnects, etc.
Today was exceptionally bad as it kept happening every few seconds. I had to switch to Camino for Gmail, Facebook, and CNN...and this resolved the problem.
Any idea at all? Is this happening to anyone else?

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
DNS server codes seem to remedy the page loading lag. Follow these steps:
Go to the System Preferences>Network panel
    - Location - set up a personal location by clicking on the location drop down menu and selecting "add a location". Use a name familiar to you. Once established, select "apply".
    - Next, click on the "Show" drop down menu and select Network Port Configurations. Depending on whether you use Ethernet or Airport (wireless) for your setup: Only Ethernet or Airport ought to be checked. Move it to the top of the list (you can drag it). Select "apply". Everything else ought to be unchecked unless you use a Bluetooth device.
    - Back to the "Show" menu, select either "Ethernet" or "Airport" (whichever applies to you). Click on the TCP panel. There, on separate lines in the DNS servers box enter Verizon's public DNS server codes: 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2.
    Select "apply".
    Restart Safari or Camino.

  • ITunes 8.1 works great but killed wireless internet connection

I installed version 8.1 on both my laptop( PowerBook g4/ OS 10.4.11) and desktop (imac intel / OS 10.5) and after restarting the computer, the wireless internet connection stopped working on both.
I would open Safari and it would be a blank page and and the circle would keep spinning.
So I tried my laptop at a different wireless hotspot and had the same result.
I then tried repairing permissions and I got a list of problems with iTunes/Network Utilities, they repaired and now when I open Safari I get the message that it can not connect to the internet.
I do get an internet connection using ethernet on both.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Did you by any chance also update the firmware on your Apple Airport Extreme (if that's what you have)?
I thought 8.1 killed my connection to my Apple TV, but it was the faulty firmware (see reports elsewhere in these forums).
Now that I have rolled back from 7.4.1 on my Airport I plan to try iTunes again (with white knuckles).

  • Skype calls kill my internet connection.

    Hello,
Not sure this is the right area or not but this issue is becomming kind of fustrating.
Recently I got a new modem (also upgraded mac os though I doubt thats connected); now whenever I start a call on skype it goes okay for a few seconds, then quality drops, then I all together lose connection to skype. Then after a few moments the connection to my modem itself is unresponsive and I find the only thing I can do is restart it and wait a few moments.
This only happens with Skype however, not with online gaming, youtube/movies ect.
Does anyone have any advice or ideas? Can't really use skype anymore...

Connectivity issues like that sounds like a network issue to me.
First, learn to use Skype's Technical Call Information window
    https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA11066/is-my-call-being-relayed-in-skype-for-mac-os-x
While in calls keep an eye on that window while it does display some cryptic looking error messages those error messages relayed here on the board can be helpful in identifying your problems.
Second test your network connection with a free tool from MegaPath. Critically network speed is far from the only metric. Latency, Jitter, and loss are very important for any RTC ( Real Time Communication ) via the Internet.
    http://www.megapath.com/speedtestplus/
Have you seen all the different things that can interfere with WiFi? Baby monitors, cordless phones, you call phone, wireless speakers, your microwave, cables etc, etc, etc.
If your having trouble with Skype grab a LAN cable and plug it directly into your router and try again. Eliminating the wifi network from your list of trouble suspects should the FIRST step in halving your trouble.

  • Neighbors keep stealing my internet and resetting permissions - I know they are running Lion and I can't seem to stop them from resetting the wifi and firewall options in Maverick. It's killing my internet and driving me nuts.

Hi - I thougth I was crazy but after a full reinstall of Mavericks and I can still see the utility repair fixing problems I know my neighbors are stealing in internet and using it. They keep finding different ways to do it - the only way I know they are doing it is because when I login to the terminal it no longer uses my HD name but some long server looking name. I turned off my wifi and plugged it in directly. This time, after the reset, they modified my firewall permission and reset some ruby framework. I want to know how to stop this from happening. Please help.

More importantly, or at least as important, you must assign a strong password to your router's login. Service providers of DSL and cable have finally wised up and their routers now come with a preassigned and difficult to guess admin password, but not all. Right now, I'm certain it's at a default. Check the manual for your router, but it's probably something like:
    Admin: admin
    Password:
Sometimes it's the other way around. The admin name is blank, and the password is simply "admin".
Do this. From Safari, type this into the URL/search field at the top:
    192.168.0.1
and press Enter. If the defaults are as simple as what I've shown here, that's how they keep getting back in so easily. All anyone has to do is be in range of your wireless signal, type in this same IP address and get into your router settings by using these uselessly easy to bypass admin name and password settings.
Once into your router's settings, they can see what you've changed the wireless login password to, and just login again. What you need to do more than anything is keep them out of your router's settings.
Go into the router's settings as I described using 192.168.0.1 in Safari. Find the wireless settings and turn all wireless off so no one is getting a signal. This will keep them out while you change things.
    1) Change the router's wireless security to WPA2.
    2) Change the wireless password to a new, hard to guess password as steve359 showed. Long, random, obnoxious passwords are best. At least 16 characters long.
    3) Now, go to the admin login page and give the login password an equally long and difficult password. Remember to do all of this with wireless broadcasting OFF, or they will be able to watch everything you're doing.
    4) Now turn wireless access back on. They will no longer able to login to your router to see your wireless access password. Not unless they manage to guess a very hard long and difficult password.
Make sure to write these passwords down so you can get back into the router without manually resetting it.

  • Latest update for Itunes and Quicktime has killed my internet

Last night i updated the latest Itunes and quicktime as per my regular software update process. The system required a reboot which i completed. I then complete permissions verifications and repairs.
I then attempt to open safari and go online it could not access the internet. Nor could it access the wi-fi config. pages. The signal of the airport was high and the router box appears to be working fine.
When i tried to open internet connect it opened the programme but could not access any details. It simply goes to the colour wheel. I attempted a reboot and experienced similar problems.
    Please help!

I have excactly the same problem. After completing this update my Airport card finds my home network no problem with a good strong signal, BUT I am not connected to the internet. When I look at the Network settings under the summary I have an amber'light' and the text says that whilst I am connected to my home network there is no IP address and it can not connect to the internet. Last time I had Aiprort sleep issues after a Security update and I had to memove the /System/Library/Extensions/AppleairportKext2 file to solve it. I noticed that this file is back again so deleted it, but still no joy as I can't get Airport to detect an IP address. My router is working fine as my Tiger equipped laptop connexts via Airport withy no problem, so it is something in this 10.3.9 suite of updates (iTunes/Quicktime/Security as at Nov 07) that has done it.
I now get a spinning beach ball when I select the menu bar Airport icon.
As my wife uses this computer for all her internet work and email, I am in big trouble as it is clearly all my fault. Any good samaritans that can restore marital harmony would be much appreciated.

  • They killed my internet and gave awful service

Hello, not sure anyone can give any advice but has just had the most awful 4 days (so far and likey to go on)
    The history.
Wednesday 30 July reported fault online about phone with no dial tone.
Thursday 31 received an email form BT saying they had tried to phone (why when the fault said the phone wasn’t working) and they would send an engineer by close of play on the 5 August.
Engineer rang at 17:00 on the 1 August to say he had fixed the fault, he had replaced the ports as they were faulty. He said that the fibre port will affect the broadband but it should reset itself in about an hour, if not report the fault and they can reset them remotely.
I left it 2 hours then reported the fault, I was told there was routine maintenance so the system would be off for 24 hours anyway from 10:00 that morning to 10:00 on Saturday. No one hadwarned me about this I explained that I had only lost internet access when the engineer fixed the fault, and the person was adamant that signal would be returned Saturday at 10:00 (I had also explained what the engineer had told me)
As I doubted this I rang the auto update line, this said there was a major fault in my area but this had been fixed, reboot and if no access raise a fault.
I rang again and was talked through the process of resetting both the modem and hub and told as I was not using my BT Hub they couldn’t say anymore, but would book a call back from second line support 9:40 – 10:40 the following day.
    The call did not come
I rang the help line and gave up after and hour
I tried again for another hour
I tried again and got through after 45 minutes, I said about not receiving the call back (this was ignored) and i had to explain the problem, including what the engineer had said, we went round in circles going over everything everyone else had tried, and he also insisted I plug in my Asus router to confirm it was not a hardware issue, plus trying a different ethernet cable I had. I had stated several times that I had already tried this repeatedly, and the instructions the engineer had provided. His response was that the engineer was a phone engineer and not a broadband engineer so didn’t know what he was talking about.
At this point I gave up, told him to book an engineer, that I was at work all week, told him I was really unhappy that BT had caused the fault and now I would be without access for over a week, asked why an engineer couldn’t come out today or tomorrow and he said engineers don’t work weekends but next weekend was special. I asked to speak to a supervisor and he said one would call me back in 2 hours, I doubted this and asked for a manager to be told they don’t work weekends either.
Fed up I said just book the engineer for whenever you want, get your supervisor to ring me and also get the complaints department to ring me.
The supervisor rang back 3 hours later, no help what so ever, would not consider the advice from the engineer and kept repeating that the first appointment was Tuesday, the engineer would need access to my property (even though the fault is in the exchange) as he may need to replace the BT Hub which clearly is not the problem as my on router also has the same problem.
There is no broadband signal reaching the hub, the open reach modem has green across the board but the hub has a red broadband light and shows as "disconnected" when i access the web inteface.
have had this years ago and the engineer fixed it frm the exchange (supprise!!) I cant believe the exchange is empty all weekend.
I would swap provider but i cant look it up as no internet - lucky i have 4G on my phone
    So frustrated!!!!!!

    @ BlinkeredCat23
please remember you will still be using the same Openreach infrastructure and engineer just a different name on the bill

Resetting the router via user interface should be ok. If you are still experiencing the issue after the upgrade and reset, adjust the MTU settings.

  • HELP I'm going MAD! - bundled NTI software is killing my internet connection.

Hello All, If someone could help me it would be hugely appreciated. I have a NMH410 which I have attached as a centre hub for 4 computers to attach to. I am using this product as an replacement update to an existing Freecom FSG3 400gb. the FSG is still on the Network. (waiting for file migration to mediahub). The Linksys Media Hub is connected directly to a BT Business router (ewire) hxxp://business.bt.com/broadband-and-internet/internet-access/broadband/more-about-routers.
The network hosts 4 Wireless laptops and 1 Wireless printer which can all see files on the media hub and connect via the BT router. The NTI software is perfect for each laptop being backed up on the hub and provides the perfect amount of resilience for the business (no need for RAID as it is simply backing up work from the individual PC's, so if Media Hub Fails the data is on the laptops and Vice Versa!) As a concept this is fantastic... However, As soon as the NTI software is turned on to backup any of the individual laptops the Internet is un-contactable. I have tried a simple ping test to google.co.uk and activated the software and get no packet or data loss and the connection remains?? Throughout the Media Hub is always available, so therefore I may be posting this on the wrong message board (perhaps a contact with NTI is next) Any help will be hugely appreciated, ThanksAndy

Thanks for your responses, I'll give it a go.
I thought network conjestion but I could understand if i was doing all laptops together but i'm doing them one at a time...
We have no backup software on the computers as this product was going to provide an automated backup solution (instead of the manual ad-hoc method as now)
I'll give this new product a whirl and come back to you.
    Thanks,
    Andy
