WRE54G - No DHCP to Apple Computers

When I install my WRE54G (version 2) range expander, I get great expanded wireless coverage, but none of my Mac's (running OS X v10.4) can get an IP address from DHCP. All my PC-based laptops work fine, and the Mac's do get an IP address from DHCP when the WRE54G is turned off. Also, the Mac's work through the range expander if I configure them with static IP addresses. Any ideas? Would a version 3 range expander work?

Since my original posting I've come to recognize the limits of life with the WRE54G and my iPhone.  The iPhone will connect to the WRE54G allowing me access to the internet and all the iPhone's internet-based services.  But once I attempt to use Remote to access iTunes on my PC, the iPhone cannot find my PC, or at least iTunes.  But I don't lose hope because every few minutes the iPhone picks up my home network directly from my wireless router (a slightly weaker signal than from the WRE54G) dropping the WRE54G signal, and then I can reach iTunes.  What is odd is that I can access a remote file app, Files Lite, on my PC from my iPhone regardless of whether the signal is coming from the wireless router or the extender.  The only application that seems to care is Remote.  It will work only if it's connected to the network PC via a signal from the wireless router.

  • How can we move the 'application data\apple computers' folder to another location

We use roaming profiles and the Application Data folder is stored on a network drive with restricted space (500MB).  This has not been a problem in the past but since we've been rolling out iPad's & iPhones, this restriction is becoming a problem as iTunes download's ios updates and stores device backups in 'application data\apple computers' folder (and not in the media library).
Does anyone know how we can move this 'application data\apple computers' folder to another location or force iTunes to store the downloads/updates in the media library (which can be moved)?
Thanks very much in advance for any help.

Move the iTunes Library elsewhere, launch iTunes with the Shift key held down, and point it there.

Do I need a different Apple ID for each of my Apple computers?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If all of those Macs are for your use, you have to use the same Apple ID on all of them, so you will be able to use all the applications and songs purchased with your Apple ID on them, apart from your iCloud information, in case you have an iCloud account

  • Can't connect to wireless network with Apple Computers (WRT54G)

    Hi.
I have had a password protected router (WRT54G) for over two years that any pc will connect to if I give them the password.  However, my roommate has an apple laptop and he can't connect, no matter how many times we try.  I just got an ipod touch, and it can't connect to the network either.  We are inputting our password correctly - why can't apple computers connect to my wireless network??
Again, my router is a WRT54G.
    Thanks !!!

Make sure you enter the correct password...To check your Wireless Settings follow this link
If your Wireless Security is WEP then use WEP Key1 and not the Passphrase, make sure to enter a dollar sign on your Apple Computer when you attempt to connect...If your Wireless Security is WPA/WPA2 then use the WPA Shared key and no dollar sign is required...

  • WRT54GS Version 5. Firmware 1.50.9 Apple Computers do not work

Can anyone tell me how to downgrade the firmware in my router. The newest version of the firmware does not work with Apple computers, it works with my windows computers. Apparently this is a known problem with this firmware upgrade.

Unfortunately, the new firmware is only for the WRT54G. You'll find a solution for the WRT54GS here (the short version):

including a source for firmware version 1.50.8 which is what you need for the WRT54GS
If you want the long version, you'll find it here:

What are the problems with Minecraft game and Apple computers.  I've read that the two are incompatible.

You have a very limited amount of time before night falls and the monsters might come out. You have to HOLD DOWN the mouse button to hit things to change them. Hit the earth to dig a cave. Hit a tree repeatedly to get wood.
A two button mouse is superior, because a lot of actions require a left click. <-- OH That is why they say it is not compatible!
It is compatible, you just need to left click sometimes!

  • Is there a fix for the new virus that hit apple computers called "FLASHBACK"?

Is there a fix for the new virus that hit apple computers called "FLASHBACK"?

Current recommendations is turn Java off.  Generally you don't need it.  Do not confuse it with Javascript which you do need for your browsers.
You can disable in the browser you are using and/or more globally using the Java Preferences too (in Utilities), General tab (uncheck the checkboxes).

Protect Yourself from the Mac OS X Java Vulnerability
If it turns out you need it for some specific application or web site that you trust then turn it on only when running that application or visiting that site. If your work requires Java be enabled then at least disable it in your browsers.
If you do need to run Java, be sure that you pick up the Java Software Update 7 posted recently that takes 10.6 and 10.7 up to Java SE 6 revision 31.
Flashback is a moving target with lots of strains (various versions, permutations) and changing all the time.  So who knows what's next?

  • What Were the First Apple Computers Like?

Hello fellow Apple users. I am interested in knowing more about the very first Apple commputers. I have been using Apple products for a few years (iPods, iPads, ect), but I have just made the switch to Mac! I made this switch for a few reasons. One, within a year of getting a PC, they would self destruct someway, somehow. Having used iPhone and iPad for quite a while, I saw that Apple prosessors seem to operate faster the the PC. Now I am happy to be a Mac owner!
I have become a loyal Apple customer because I love Apple products so much. After seeing the movie "Jobs", I am eager to know more about the history of the Apple computer. Altough I remember using the Apple computer in grade school, I'm not old enough to have seen the Lisa. My memory of the Apple computer goes back to the early 2000s.
I guess my question is, what were the first Apple computers like? What features did they have? What kind of software did it have?
If anyone knows anything about these older computers, please sure your information, if you don't mind. I greatly appreciate your time in reading my post and providing any answers. Thank you!

Mactracker, a multi platform app for the Mac OS, iOS has been around for a while. I like the iOS app in case I find a Mac in a store or in a yardsale and want to know the vital stats on a specific model.
The Mac platform has a history of probably well over 300 different models in its almost 30 year history. Apple produced other models like the famous Apple II, but there was only a handful in that franchice. Also Apple made printers, input devices like joysticks, speakers, etc. They tried to get into the digital photography with the "QuickTake" camera but didn't do well.
I was too young for the Lisa too, but they only made 10,000 of them, many unsold went into a dump in Utah, they are the second to the Apple I in terms of collective value. The Lisa was SO ahead of its time, the NeXT Cube was probably the second most high tech computer ahead of the real world market.
I've used Macs since I was very young (actually first computer was ether a Mac II or LC w IIe emulator) and I use PCs as well as Macs today. The Mac has slowly been more business friendly (I do a lot of business and enterprise IT stuff) and I hear you about the self destructiveness of their reliablity. I have had my MacBook run for months without a need to shut down or even a restart - wished my iPad or PC can do that!

  • HT1420 I run my business with Apple computers and personally own about 20 of which I personally use more than 5 of these. I can't authorize more than 5. Is there any way around this?

Use the Deauthorize All command documented in this article, or if it isn't an option, the 'contact iTunes Store support' link at the bottom of it.

  • How to keep many apple computers updated?

As time passed, we have many, many computers around our institution. At some point, users were able to update their individual software without admin assistants. However, we have changed the policy, and users can't do this anymore. Therefore, is there an easy way to push updates to multiple apple computers?
The apps that need to be updated include:
    1. Apple OS
    2. Individual Applications
    3. Apple Firmware
    4. etc.
If you could list what product works best, and if Apple does have a in-house solution.
    Thanks

You are confusing two different things.
RAM is memory, not hard drive space.
To see how much free space you have open any Finder window and it will tell you at the bottom of the window.
Or you can look in Disk Utility.
