WRE54G v. 2.0 and WRT54G v 6.0 Compatibility

I bought a WRT54G version 6.0 router and WRE54G version 2.0 range expander that I could not get configured properly.  Linksys techical support by phone eventually concluded that these two versions are not compatible and that I need a WRE54G v 3.0.  This seems bizarre.
The product packaging says the units are compatible without distinguishing versions. You can't even find out the version unless the package is opened to see the back of the unit. I've tried two retailers and they only have version 2.0.
Is anyone aware whether there is a way to get these units to cooperate?

Try connecting the wre54g directly to router through the ethernet port.
Open the wre54g setup page by typing http://192.168.1.240 in the address bar of your browser. Then make sure you have the same wireless settings of router on wre54g like: ssid and encryption.
Also try changing some settings in advanced wireless tab of router such as: change the beacon to 50, the reduce RTS and fragmentation by 40 each.
Then turn of the router and wre54g wait for 10 secs then first turn on router and then the wre54g. see if it works.

  • WRT54G2 and WRT54G locks-up (freezes) when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions

I am convinced that a few Linksys routers such as WRT54G2 and WRT54G have a major issue when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy). After a few hours of internet access by 15 wired users the Linksys locks-up and blocks all internet web access. The only solution is to restart the power on the router.
We are currently using a Linksys WRT54G2 v1 (firmware 1.0.04). We upgraded the WRT54G2 v1 firmware to the latest 1.0.04 version which did not resolve the issue.  NOTE: We were previosuly using a a Linksys WRT54G v1.1 (firmware 4.21.1) until the power supply blew a week after we started blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy).
Basically, we have a T1 internet connection and a hub connected to the Linksys router. We are trying to block several web sites such as facebook, myspace, etc. for 15 wired users. We do not use wireless connections.
This is the 2nd time it happened with 2 different models.
    Please help ASAP.
    Thank you,
    Lance
(Mod note: Edited post. Some parts off topic.. Thanks!)

Also,  you have already upgrade/re-flash the firmware of your Linksys Router you need to reset and reconfigure your router from scratch. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • WMP54GS and WRT54GS = dropped connections

I have had the WMP54GS and WRT54GS setup for around 2 years now. I have version 2 of the router, and everything has been fine up until a couple weeks ago. Lately I have been getting randomly dropped from the router. I already have the latest firmware for the router, and have tried changing the channel, and the operating mode to G only, but nothing helps. Sometimes drops occur ever few minutes, sometimes they are so constant that I cant even connect at all. I will refresh my network list and the network will not show up for a few seconds, and then it will, so I will try and connect and it will say Unable to connect.
Sometimes when I refresh the network list and it will show my network like 4 times... like this
    SSID
    SSID 1
    SSID 2
    SSID 3
I have SSID broadcast off if that makes any difference...
I have no idea what is going on, is this a problem with the router or the network card? What should I do? thanksMessage Edited by jls1986 on 05-03-200709:38 AM

First of all, give your network a new unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router.  Also, do not use your old SSID.   Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
After you have completed the above stuff, then go into your computer, to your "Preferred Networks"  (sometimes called "Profiles" ) and delete all networks named "linksys", also delete all entries with your old SSID.  While you are there, delete any network that you don't recognize, or that you no longer use.  Add your new network with your new SSID, encryption method (if any), and key (if any).  Reboot your modem, router, and computer.  Then try to connect to your new network.  Once you have connected, return to "Preferred networks" and set your computer to connect to your new SSID automatically.  If you have an option that says, "Connect to any available network", turn it off.
If you are running any peer-to-peer (P2P) software (BitTorrent, Ares, etc.), this is known to cause disconnection problems.  Go into the P2P software and reduce the number of connections that the software can make.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, Bluetooth (including Bluetooth game controllers), microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, and your neighbor's wireless network. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
    Hope this helps.

  • Trouble with WPA in WDS between AE and WRT54G

Hi folks, I've have WDS with my AEBS as a remote base station and a Linksys WRT54G as the main base station. I've be running smoothly with 128 bit WEP encryption for about 6 months, so last weekend I tried upgrading the network to WPA personal .
As soon as I go to WPA the AEBS stops talking to the WRT54G. My G4 powerbook can get an get an IP address directly from the WRT54G (when it's in range) so I'm confident the WPA password is correct. Other than changing the wireless security settings I left the AEBS configuration the same as was working for WEP.
I'm running Airport Admin 4.2 and I've tried both firmware 5.6 and 5.5.1 -- same problem in each case. No connection between AEBS and WRT54G.
I had hoped the AEBS would send and error messages to the system console, but so far I have found no useful diagnostic to debug this problem.
Anyone out there get WPA encryption working for a wireless distribution system between AEBS and WRT54G ?
    Thanks,
    David

    Thanks for the reply Henry.
    Hmm... I'm running WRT54G firmware version: v4.20.6, May. 26, 2005.
The SSID's are the same (WEP still works) and personal WPA in the WRT54G is set up using a pre-shared key and TKIP algorithm.
And yet still with DHCP turned on I see that my AEBS is generating "local" IP addresses 256.xxx.xxx.xxx rather than getting an address from the range served by the WRT54G. Since this same configuration work using 128 bit WEP I'm assuming the issue is that the AEBS and WRT54G aren't talking properly.
Do you have a pointer to the previous discussion that suggested WPA on an Linksys AEBS WDS is possible? ... maybe I can contact the author directly.
    Thanks again,
    David

  • Play Station 3 and WRT54G Recent Problem

My Play Station 3 and WRT54G DID work fine (connecting to internet) and now it doesn't.   Can't connect to the Internet with WRT54G now.    Tried Chat Line but since Router is out of Warranty, they won't talk to me without $$$$.    What do you do to solve this issue.    It DID work.    Have V3.      Downloaded new software v4.21.1 but haven't installed it.   Will this be of any help or will it get worse.    I did hook up the Play Station 3 via a WIRED Linksys Router and it works fine so Play Station 3 is okay.

Before your Connect your PS3 to your wireless network, you need to check the wireless settings of your Router (SSID, Security key).
On your Computer, Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Once you login to the setup page of your Router, Click on the Wireless tab and check whats the Wireless Network Name, and then again you need to click on the sub tab "Wireless Security" and check the Security Mode and Security Key....
On your PS3, Search for your Wireless Network and attempt to connect to your wireless network....

  • Mac Pro (Early 2008) and HP LP3065 30" display compatibility issue

    Hello!
Is there FIX / Workaround to Mac Pro (Early 2008) and HP LP3065 30" display compatibility issue ? ( +w/ ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT display adapter+ ). Its really annoying problem :-/.
Main problem is when i start my Mac, my 30" HP screen dosen't wake up, it always on suspend mode. Sometimes it wakes up on the 3rd try orso, sometimes it ruins my motivation, ideas and i give up (talk about inspiration killer). If i connect PC Laptop to that screen, sreen wakes up straight away. ATI says display adapters "drivers" are included on the OSX install. Great. Weird thing is i didn't recognize this problem at all 6-8 months ago, so i thought my system is fine. So i can't return my HP screen anymore.
    My choices are to buy another 30" screen or buy different display adapter; there's two choices atm i think;
*-ATI Radeon HD 3870 512MB PCI-E for Mac Pro (~200€)*
*-EVGA GeForce GTX 285 Mac Edition 1GB (~500€)* (this one has seperate OSX drivers).
_Can anyone confirm if those display adapters work with HP 3065 30" screen ?._

Thanks for all information. I haven't been Mac user very long . I just want to get rid of my annoying problem. I'll do music composing mainly on my Mac Pro. So, it dosen't really matter what display card i'm using, i want to just make sure it works with HP 3065 .

For MS Visio (any version) only the appropriate version of Acrobat *PRO* provides PDFMaker for Visio.
For Visio 2013 specifically you must have Acrobat XI Pro (updated to at least 11.0.1).

I'm possibly wrong here but I suspect opening a brand new MBP to add parts yourself will void the warranty.  It is probably in the small print.  I certainly would not risk it for an expensive Apple product.
Some (Windows) laptops have easy access to memory and disk slots that do not necessitate taking the complete back cover off.  However, Apple does not make life easy for you.
However, if you are going for a 'used' machine it is probably worth a try.
Not possibly, definitely wrong, Ram and Hard Drive are considered user replaceable and will not void the warranty if changed.

  • Unable to Connect WRE54G and WRT54G

So I've got a WRT54G Router and a WRE54G Range Expander. The router works fine on its own (Firmware 2.02.7) but when I try to get them working together, it just doesn't work. I tried the auto config on the Range Expander, but to no avail. I tried running the Setup Utility from the CD, and once I get past confirming my wireless settings it says that it can't find the Range Expander and to make sure that it's powered on (which it is). My computer IS getting a signal (an excellent one at that) from the range expander as "CNITS," but it doesn't have an internet connection from the router. What do I have to do to make this thing work?

Well, as you see from the threads on this board, this is a common problem. I experienced practically everything mentioned here, including the IP confict business but I consider myself "Luckydog" because I finally got it to work (after long hours). The settings on your router should be fine if everything was working pre-RE. The RE is just supposed to mimic them.  Unfortunately, there is no simple answer but trial and error. What I would recommend for you right now is reset the RE to default with the pinhole switch and configure the RE with the ethernet cable and IE interface. Don't try the autoconfig or the CD software. Also, power cycling the whole WIFI network system, PCs, router, RE,  printer servers, etc. does wonders. Bring the router up first as that should start assigning the IP addresses. I don't think the Window's warning is bogus, i.e. there has to be an IP conflict somewhere...
Oh, and forgot. Get ready for a hair transplant as you may end up pulling it all out by the time it is all over!
See below. I had a v1 so couldn't hard wire. Hard wire the RE to the computer instead of the router. Might be the IP conflict problem.
    From Castor post 05-29-07:
Logon to setup page of your wireless router, get the necessary wireless settings e.g. SSID, channel, wireless security mode and security code, reset the R.E. (Range Expander) back to factory default settings by pressing reset button, power down the R.E. and connect directly to the computer, power up the R.E. and assign a static IP on pc e.g.192.168.1.10 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 default gateway 192.168.1.1, open I.E. on computer and in the address bar type 192.168.1.240, it would ask for username and password, put “admin” as password without any username, put the wireless settings according to wireless router and save the settings…power cycle the n/w by unplugging power cable of router and R.E. power up the router first once your router is rebooted power up the R.E. check whether it works or not and let me know…

  • XBox 360 and WRT54GS no one can fix this. Please help if you can?

I'm totally out of ideas here and would appreciate it if someone could help me?  We have 2 XBox 360's both with the Microsoft XBox wireless adapters.  My son has had his since they first came out whatever year that was.  My youngest daughter got hers last October.  Both XBox's connect to XBox LIVE without a problem via a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router.  The problem we can't solve is - my oldest daughter and son-in-law live about a mile from us and they have an XBox 360. When we try to connect to their XBox (or anyone else that's local) to play against her and her husband, it won't connect and gives us a "Disconnected" prompt every time. They have no problem connecting to other XBox's locally but we, for some reason, can't.  I can connect our XBox directly into our cable modem bypassing the Linksys and it connects to them, so it isn't the cable modem.  I've changed settings on the router, internet, XBox with no luck.  I've updated the firmware.  I've read thru posts on the internet for weeks and now my brain is mush.  Is this fixable or do I need to buy a new wireless router?  Also, I don't know if this has anything to do with anything but we have 3 PC's and 3 DVR's also connected to the internet but are hard wired.  My kids and grandkids have DSi's, a Playststion3, and a Wii and those all connect via wireless and work great.  XBox has this WRT54GS listed as compatable.  I'm stumped.  I know there's some really sharp folks out there somewhere.......please help if you can?  Thanks for any help you could offer!

Have you opened the ports on the router....?
If not then, you need to open ports 53-3074 on the router..Read this link. Also, under the security tab on the router, uncheck Block Anonymous Internet Requests and click on Save Settings...

  • Xbox 360 and WRT54G

I think I've reached a solution to the issues that I've had w/my Xbox network settings and the console not finding an IP address via the WRT54G v.6. After hours and hours of trying all the suggestions that I've read on this forum I've decided to take the SOB back to the store and exchange it for another brand of wireless router. I think this router and its software are poor and is not complimented by the ability of the average layperson. Anyway, if any of you other poor users are doing a search on Xbox then I hope you read this first before you waste the amount of time I have.
    Good Luck.

I didnt hve an issue with my WRT54G and my sons XBox.  Entered the security key in the xbox, clicked on connect and away he went.  But the difference might be is that I have a vesion 4.  Has been running for about 4 months now ever since I recieved the wireless xbox adapter.

  • Problem with non-wireless Orange Livebox and WRT54GS

    Hi all,
I have a non wireless Livebox modem that I was using perfectly. The livebox modem is able to connect itself to the internet, so the only thing I have to do is to plugin the laptop lan cable into the modem and it works.
So I decided to add wireless capabilities and bought the WRT54GS. I followed all the setup steps until the point when it says that it can't connect to the internet. So the setup is the following: the linksys router is connected to the livebox modem via Ethernet cable, though I don't think I need any PPPoE settings as the modem already dials in itself (it's actually also a router I guess).
Currently I'm trying to use Linksys with the Livebox using DHCP instead of PPPoE. It won't work and I don't have the Livebox PPPoE settings.
Is this a very specific scenario ??
I would really like to solve this!
    Many thanks,
    Joel

    Hi,
After some browsing on info on the internet I found how to fix the problem.
Since I have two routers chained together, their private LAN IP addresses must be in a different network. So I changed the default router private IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1
    Now it works.
