WRE54G WITH WRT300N / WAP4400N

Hi Guys,
Please, tell me if it is possible to add the expander to my small network (2 wired desktops and 3 wireless notebooks). The WAP-4400N is connected by cable to the router WRT-300N. What should I do if I want to add the expander ? Do you think it will work ? If I set up all the devices same SSID, same channel and same encryption, how I will be able which device I will be connected to ?
Thanks in advance to all of you

Well, I have just tried it !!!!!!  My WRE-54G is working perfectly __ at least untill now allowing internet access __ with both my WRT-300N router --->WAP-4400N access point. In the "link status" of the WRE-54G it is showed the mac address of the WAP-4400N.  I guess this is because it is closer from the access point than the router. Could you, please, tell me something about ?

  • Encoding Problems with WRT300N V2

    Hello guys,
    i have following problem:
I have a WRT300n Router and it seems to have problems with WPA2 encoding. I have 2 different deviceses (a SMC Ethernet Bridge and a PS3) trying to connect to my Linksys wireless router. No chance in WPA2 mode but when I try in WEP-Mode, both devicec can connect to it.
    Are there known encoding problems?
Any idea what i can do?

It is able to use. But my router always drops the connection. WEP is no problem, but ... what about low security and Wirless N is not enabled ??

  • Using the WRE54G with a WRT310

I have successfully set up the range extender for use with the WRT310 but after about 30 minutes clients are no longer able to connect to the internet and will get an invalid IP address if I reboot. I can still access the WRE54G home page but not the WRT310. If I unplug the WRE54G it will usually reaquire the router. I am only 150 feet from the WRT310 and have been 20 feet away with the same results. Both units have the latest firmware.

    Start it from scratch -
Press and hold the reset button(Range Expander) for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your Expander, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...
    1. Connect your Expander to a computer, click on the Start button >>> Settings >>> Control Panel >>> Network Connections - Right click on the icon for Local area connection and go to properties- On the 'General' tab select 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP' and click on the Properties button- Select 'Use the following IP address'- Provide IP Address - 192.168.1.5, Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0...Click on Ok button to Save and Click on "Close" on main Properties window...
    2. Now open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.240.
Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case......It should open your Expander set-up...
    3. Once you get to the set-up page you can follow this link to change the Expander Settings...
NOTE : The link also explains to check the Wireless Settings on your Router...
    4. While changing the Expander settings you have to make sure that the Wireless Settings(SSID/Network Name and WEP/WPA Key, don't use WPA with AES, you can use WPA with TKIP) are identical on both the devices(router and Expander)...Also make sure to change the Expander's default IP to match your network and Gateway Address should be your router's address...ex. Expander's IP Address : 192.168.1.240(assuming your router's default IP Address is 192.168.1.1), Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1...
    5. After configuring the Expander you should disconnect it from the Computer and go into Local Area Connection TCP/IP Properties and set it back to Obtain IP Address Automatically...Disconnect the Expander from the computer and power cycle both the devices(Expander and Router)...Your Expander should be configured...
In case if you don't get the Expander set-up just leave it connected to your computer and reset it for 30 seconds and follow Step 2, Step 3, Step 4 & Step 5...
    Hope this helps.

  • Invisible WRE54G with Vista + NIS 2009

I have a WRE54G set up and working with by BT Homehub (WEP connection). It works just fine from my Widows XP laptop but is totally ignored by my new Vista 64bit desktop computer with Norton IS 2009 installed. And by ignored I mean even ping doesn't work, let alone browsing to 192.168.1.240. This desktop computer does see it loud and clear when viewing available networks but will not connect ("No response from access point"), then if I turn the WRE54G off, connect the desktop to the weak hub network and turn the WRE54G on again, the laptop sees it but it remains invisible to the Vista desktop.
For some reason I suspect the NIS 2009 (which is not installed on the laptop) so am interested in whether anyone has had experience of this working with the WRE54G. I plan to try it with NIS 2009 deinstalled, but am just checking something with Norton first.
    Thanks....

    Partial progress.....
The main change I made was to stop SSID broadcast from my main router so that only the repeater was broadcasting. After that I got it working consisently as a repeater from my Vista desktop (traffic visible on the WRE54G). I can also now ping from there but I can't get at the setup page (192.168.1.240) - in fact if I attempt that it times out in the browser and also disables the repeater until it is powered off and on again.
However, I have now tried with my 3rd computer, an XP desktop (with NIS 2009) and it always fails to acquire an address when trying to connect to the network. The repeater was previously, but not consistently, working with this desktop.
    More experiments tomorrow....

  • Problems with WRT300n & WPC300n

    Hi guys!
I have a problem. I am reviewing the two Linksys-thingys WRT300n & WPC300n for a pc-mag, and for the last 4 hours I have been all over the internet trying to get a clue...
First of all both items works (not well (low range/falls out once in a while), but there is a connection after all). My main prob is, that I cant get the WPC300n to go faster then 54 Mbps... In the Linksys-control it says Wide Channel: N/A... like this is just regular G-speed...?
I have tried to turn on all the encryptionfacilities but it doesnt help. All the drivers and firmware are the newest...
Any of you got a clue?

I'm having the same problem with the same equipment. I hope there is someone that can help us. PLEASE

  • Problems abound with WRT300N

I have been fighting with getting my WRT300N to work for a long time. It was working intermittently for quite a while and could usually be fixed by unplugging it and waiting 5 minutes. I finally had enough of that and decided to try support again (I had previously tried that and was told to flash the bios and that would fix all. Well, it didn't and the intermittent wireless signal loss continued. So when I tried again this time, I was of course told that the most recent bios would cure all my woes.
This time the outcome was even worse. I now can't get any wireless signal from the device at all. My laptop is 2 feet from the router and I am getting signals from some of my neighbors' wireless routers, but mine is giving nothing off. I now have an expensive 4 port hub.
Since this now is not visible to any of my laptops with wireless cards, even after resetting it to factory default settings, I can only assume that the bios flash has somehow made it unusable.
    Any suggestions?

Ok how about this.. re-flash the BIOS back a rev level, reset to defaults again, and see if you get any changes, run "net stumbler" ( a program to look for wireless networks and give info on signal strength, MAC addresses SSIDS etc.. ) on your laptop, make sure your MTU is set correctly for your upstream connection..

  • E-51 Packet loss with Linksys WAP4400N Access Poin...

I have two Nokia E-51 that connect fine with multiple Access Points but seem to have trouble with the Linksys WAP4400N device.
The phones connect fine and are ping-able but experience random and heavy packet loss intermittently. Since I am using this WLAN for SIP services its almost impossible to have a SIP conversation using this setup.
I have setup multiple other access points and they work fine with this phone. The linksys also works fine with other phones (Windows CE Imate, numerous laptops) so I am unable to figure out where the problem is.
    Anybody else with similar issues?

This happened in two more ports during the following month. Again, resetting the port and applying the macro solved the issue. In the last month we haven't had any problems
Well Tiago, you're in a dilemma.  Cisco recently announced the EoS for the 2960S.  This means that the 2960X cannot run a more stable IOS, like 12.2(55)SE9 or 15.0(2)SE4, but I do know is that there's a move within Cisco to significantly improve the performance of the 2960X IOS.  This means that the developers have "opened their doors" to any (violent) comments/reactions.
Contact your SE and, as Americans like to say, "let them have it".  All of it.
I know what I'm saying because some 2960X-related team has been listen to my complaint about the lack of performance of TDR for the 2960X.  The supporting documents about this topic were quickly knocked up by Cisco and move is underway.  If my issue is that small, your issue is bigger and will get more attention.

  • Use WRE54G with WRT160N

I have WRT160N, v1.02.2.  Still have weak zones, need range entender or additional access point.  Can I use the WRE54G?  Is there a better option

Well the Range Expander doesn't work with the N-router.Its not compatible.Would suggest you to get the G-series router in order to make the Range Expander work.

  • Use WRE54G with WRT310N

Hi, I currently use a WRT310N router with WPA2 security, but need to extend the range as I have very low signal in my room. To extend the range, I bought a WRE54G range expander, but can't seem to make it connect to my router. The auto configuration doesn't work and documentation is poor. Help!

Well I'm not sure where the answers about an wre54g not working with a wrt3nn series routers is coming from.
If the device you need to extend the range to is a G type device the wre54g on a network with a wrt3nn series router will indeed work in G mode.
My setup is a wrt350n, wre54g, wrt54g and numerous G and One B type device.

  • Experiencing 2 kinds of Slowdowns with WRT300N

Hi i have newly installed my wireless router WRT300N it has the standard options on.. With a ppoe internett connection.
    Problems:
1.When a person downloads using wireless on the router(not using even close to full bandwith) all the other users connected experience a 90% slowdown on the're internett connection.
Is this normal? with a wired router this has never been a problem.
2.When using slower wireless netword cards then 54 mb/s the internett speed is reduced to 64k/64k instead of the full speed. while the ones connected 54 mb/s have full speed on there internett connection.
Is there a option where i can speed up the connection with this setup?
Thanks for reading any help would be great.

I had 2.00.08 when i posted.. Tried upgrading the firmware to the one in the downloads section (2.00.13) But the upgrade got only to 20% and shutdown.. Trying to get the router reset to factory defaults now to get it to work... Functions only as a wired switch now.. With no dns service or gateway whatsoever.
Does anyone know how to reset to factory conditions without having the router setup page available?

  • WRE54G with WRK54G and wireless printer

My router is a WRK54G that connects to the desktop with an ethernet cable.
Next to it is a HP2510 printer that's wireless.
I have two more computers that are wireless.
The one in the basement was having trouble with signal strength, so I put a WRE54G in the basement, right under the WRK54G.
It works like a charm for the computer downstairs.
But... it seems to interfere with the printer: ever since I installed the repeater I am having trouble with the printer: it's slow, it sometimes takes an inordinate time before it realizes it should print something, and some pages never make it or are printer only partly.
Is there anything known about the effect that the installation of a WRE4G can have on a wireless printer?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    - Arnold

If your printer is connecting behind the Range expander then you would face an Issue because the wireless through-put of the range expander is exactly half the original through-put. So that may affect your printing experience a bit.

  • WRE54G with WAG300N

Hello, does anybody know if the WRE54G is compatible with the WAG300N-Router. tried to setup this, but i did not get it working. Regards Mansn

Hi to all.... I managed to get the WRE54G Ver. 3 (Firm. 3.03.01) to work with the WAG300N (Firm. 1.01.03). The issue is that i have laptops accessing the network throught the WRE54G, and they GET THE SAME MAC ADDRESSES OF THE RANGE EXPANDER!!!! The issue is only solved disconecting the range expander and reconect AFTER the last laptop is conected to the WRE54G.... How can this be solved without the reconection of the range expander????? Is this a bug of the firmware or/and of the range expander?

  • Media Extender Problem with WRT300N

I have the Linksys WRT300N wireless router.  I am having problems using the wireless connection with my Xbox 360 and my PS3.  The internet portions of the consoles works fine.  Im running into problems when I try and use either one as a media extender.  Both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 are using the wireless adapters.  Ive made sure that my computer is set up for media sharing and that my Windows Firewall is configured correctly.  Ive looked at the setting of the router but it seems pretty complex and I dont know what to change if anything to resolve the problem.  Could anyone tell me what the setting should be on the router to enable media sharing?

I dont think that there is some settings on the router .... but you can follow this settings ....
    Access router setup page ....
Please click on the tab "Application and gaming" and click on sub
    tab "Port range forwarding"
    1) On the first line in Application box type in "Xbox", in start box

type in 3074, in end box type in 3074, in protocol keep it both, in ip
address type in 192.168.1.20 and give a check mark on enable box.
    3) Now save the settings
    4) Once you return to the setup page, click on the tab "Administration"
and disable the UPNP and save the settings.
    5) Now assign the given ip address on your xbox
       ip address :- 192.168.1.20
       subnet mask :- 255.255.255.0
       default gateway :- 192.168.1.1
Please assign the dns address on the xbox
      primary dns :- 4.2.2.2
      secondary dns :- 192.168.1.1
    6) Please try to test your xbox live.
