WRE54G - WRT54GX4 - Issues!

I have had this range expander for approximately 4 years now.  It works, I mean blue lights and all and I can connect to it, but I could never access the web utility.  I tried to plug it into the router, results in a lost connection. Tried changing the IP to static, but, changes me from network 2 to network 3, looses connection, then wants to repair it back to DHCP. This was all done on the wired computer. Running windows 7.
On the wireless computer, plugged it in to the ethernet port on the back of the computer, changed the ip to 192.168.1.5  and dns to 68.87.77.134, somehow, got to the setup page for the utility, but that's it.  As soon as I tried to change any settings, I lost connection. I don't know what firmware version I have cause I can't access the utility.  The expander is version 3.  The firmware on my router is up to date.
Any help anyone could pass along my way would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all so much.

Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your Expander, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...
Connect your Expander to a computer, click on the Start button >>> Settings >>> Control Panel >>> Network Connections - Right click on the icon for Local area connection and go to properties- On the 'General' tab select 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP' and click on the Properties button- Select 'Use the following IP address'- Provide IP Address - 192.168.1.5, Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0...Click on Ok button to Save and Click on "Close" on main Properties window...
Now open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.240. Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...It should open your Expander set-up...

  • WRT54GX4 issue

My company currently has a WRT54GX4 for the laptops as a replacement for a now completely failed WRT54g v1.0. I've read some issues about internet connectivity dropped but this is different. My WRT will stay connected but drop to 5.5mbps with excellent signal. Once in a while the connection will drop and come back but mostly it just stays at 5.5mbps. What is weirder is that one laptop is usually used less than 20 feet from the router and still drops to 5.5mbps and stays there until the connection is repaired and then stays at 54mbps for only a minute at most then starts falling back to 5.5 slowly. The Firmware is 10.00.17, the Beacon is set to 50, Its hardset to Chan 11 and the RTS and Fragmentation are both decreased by 40 and I still get the exact same issue.
All laptops have internal 54g adapters so none of them are SRX enabled but should still work. we have a printer/fax on a 802.11b jet direct and a WPC54G installed into one desktop with a PCMCIA/PCI Adapter and everything sees the exact same issue. Some help would be great since the original WRT54G is now completely out of service and we are solely reliant on the SRX400 for all our wireless.

First of all, I only meant to suggest that you turn off the wireless B devices temporarily, just to see if this corrected your wireless problem.  I didn't intend for this to be the permanent solution to your problem.
If turning off your wireless B devices corrects your wireless problem, then there are two more permanent solutions to your problem:
    1)  Since you already have an ethernet wire for the workstation, and it is located near the printer, simply install a 5-port switch (for example, the SD205)  on the end of this wire.   Then wire the workstation and the printer to the switch.  (Note: this assumes your printer has a 10/100 port.)
    or
    2)  Get a wireless G print server (for example, the WPS54G), and connect it to the USB port on the printer.  (Turn off the wireless - B).  This would convert your wireless B printer to a wireless G printer.
    Hope this helps.

  • WRE54G Power Issues??

I too have a WRE54G Range Expander that I removed from the outlet and repositioned, but then failed to power up - no LED indicators, no activity.  I have read a few postings of similar power failure behavior and thought there might be an underlying issue/
Does anyone know if there might be a defect, recall or failed power supply component for these units?
    Thanks...  Keith

I had exactly the same problem and it is not the firt time one of my linksys products fail with no apparent cause.
How much time has your linksys repeater been working along?
Mine ones have been working between two and tree years. The first I bought is the first that failed. The difference in time between they failed really looks like the diference in time between I bought them.
    Can anybody explain it?
Are you at the same chance?
    Thanks

  • Wre54g constant issue

I have recently purchased the wre54g! Initial set up, straight into the laptop, was easy all seemed to work fine.
I have my Sky Sagem router on the ground floor, the expander is on the landing on the 1st floor. If i were to use a laptop or iphone for example in this area i would have great connectivity. However, reception is poor if at all on the 2nd floor hence the expander!
Now my PS3 and laptop can see the sky router without the expander at ~40% (PS3 says) but they can never stay connected. When turn on the expander this increases to 80% but most of the time the ps3 doesn't connect to it, laptop says local only and iphone won't connect to the expander. BTW the PS3 can see both router and expander with the same SSID just different signal strengths, 40 & 80.%
The expander has gone through two different phases. Initally the PS3 would connect then drop after maybe 20min, the expander would show two blue lights then the link would start to flash red once every couple of minutes, once the initial connection drop has happened. More recently i have not been able to connect for more than 60 seconds when i turn the expander on and this is because the Activity light goes off, it only comes on when i switch the mains off/on!! But then drops after 60 seconds.
Any help? The is proving to be a waste of money. I can't move the router upstairs which would solve all problems but it is impossible as no phone line.

Connect your Computer to the Sky Sagem Router and on your computer click on Start - RUN - CMD and click OK... In the Command Prompt window type "ipconfig" and hit enter and check the IP and the Default Gateway. Make the IP address of the WRE is in the Rage of your Router. Also check the Wireless Settings, The wireless settings of your Router and the Range Expander should be identical.
If you are getting Local Only, when your Laptop is connected to the WRE, check the IP address on your Laptop, and then try to Ping your Router and check if you are getting the reply from your Router.

  • WRE54G after reset only 1 blue light, no activity light

I have spent a lot of frustrating hours trying to setup my newly bought expander WRE54G.
    Issues:
    1. I could not find my expander by typing 192.168.1.240
    2. So, I tried one of the reset tips I found here, by holding the reset button for 30 seconds, unplug it while pressing down reset, wait 15 secs, while holding reset and turn on power again, and then wait further 10 seconds.
    3. After having tried this, when I turn it on, there is only one blue light on the link button, no light on the activity, and I could not see my expander at all on the wifi network. (A normal reset would give me a red light on the link & a blue flashing light on the activity, and I was able to see my expander on the network)
Is there any way to undo what I did with the reset tip? I really want to restore it to factory defaults.
My WRE54G does not say whether it is V1 or V2, so I guess it is V1?
    Anyone please help!!!

Did you ever get this issue resolved? I am having the same issue.
(Edited post for guideline compliance. Thanks!)

  • WRE54G Range Expander Setup Issues

I am having multiple difficulties, and having tried many of the strategies on the forums here, I am still not having any luck.
If I have the RE plugged in with no ethernet cable, I don't get far before I hit that "Site Survey Failed" message. Per manu commenters on here, I switched to trying connecting with a wire.
When I try and connect that way, I can get past the site survey failed message, but just when things look promising, I get hit with "WRE54G can not associate with this AP in repeater mode".
I have tried resetting RE to factory defaults
I have tried with and without the wire
I can see the LinksysRxxxxx wireless device in my connection list with Excllent Signal Strength
I have tried connecting to that and then connecting to 192.168.1.240 ... but the browser cannot find that page
I have tried connecting to 192.168.1.240 through my wireless connection, and through my wired connection ... nothing there either.
I have tried changing the Gateway to match the IP address for my router (192.168.2.1) - nope (also tried setting it to my internet ip address -- nope)
I think if I could get the browser to find that 192.168.1.240 page, things would work better, but I can't get that no matter what I try.
    Any ideas?  Thanks in advance!

Well, I got to the actual "setup page" on 192.168.1.240. My particular issue was that my default gateway on my Router was 192.168.2.1 (note the 2.1 as opposed to the 1.1) Once I changed my default router setting, I was able to access the setup page where I followed the instructions from this post:
    http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Range-Expanders/WRE54G-v3-Easy-Foolproof-setup-instructions/td-p/1...
The bad news for me, now, is that once I unplug the RE from the ethernet cable, I can no longer access the 192.168.1.240 page. The LINK light blinks between Red and Blue. I am not quite sure where to go on this one, but this has been a very frustrating experience to say the least :-/
I tried upgrading the firmware. I needed to get online support for the upgrade file, and each time I tried I got upgrade failed. /sigh hopefully that is just a red herring for now.
I might try the entire process again, after I reset my RE to factory default. I'll let you know if anything changes, but I am not suspecting it will, as I was pretty careful with all the steps and settings in the great instructions from the above noted post.

  • WRT160N to WRE54g Workgroup resolution issues

First of all, thank you in advance for any assistance.
I have a WRT160N as my wifi router to my cable modem. All computers have been connected to it and can network together fine.
I recently added a WRE54G Wifi Extender V.3 to the WRT160N using the manual setup, which functions decently and allows for all computers connected to it to ntework to each other, which includes workgroup names resolution.  I have the static IP address, Mask and Gateway all set to point at the WRT160N and in the same subnet.
I am not, however, able to achieve names resolution in my WORKGROUP or IP networking from the laptop which is wirelessly connected or the desktop hardwired  to the WRT160N to any of the computers connected to the WRE54G.  I suspect that I need to have a routing table entry that allows me to route networking requests to the Wifi extender and on to its connected computers.
I receive a "network path not found" error when trying to explore the computers connected to the WRE54G, even though I can ping them and I see their name in the Workgroup Names list in Network places
May I please request someone's assistance in solving this issue?
    Thank you.

Without the Range Expander connected in your network are you able to access all your computer when they are connected to the Router?
The computers which are connected to Range Expander from that computer try to ping the computers which are connected to the Router. Also make sure if there is any firewall or antivirus on your computer Disable it and the try again.. Also make sure all the computers are in the same Workgroup and the AP Isolation is Disable on your Router.

  • WRT54GS - WRE54G - LG Blue Ray BD-390 Issues

Ok... So finally after about 10 hours of messing with the WRE i finally got it to connect to my network.
I'm currently having issues connecting my BD-390.
After 4-5 calls with linksys and 2 calls to LG, they both keep telling me to call each other.
Well, i finally got my WRE54G to link with my WRT54GS.
I cannot ping into the WRE but i have all the ssid settings and ip settings to match, but whenever i try to connect to it with my iphone, laptop, or LG Blue Ray player, i cannot pickup a IP address from it or my router. (I know its basically like a repeater, so its actually trying to communicate with the router to assign a ip address)
All 3 items of hardware are running the most up-to-date firmware.
Any suggestions? This is becoming a royal P.I.M.A.
    Jeff

First thing which you can try is, Turn Off the Power from the WRE.. Then you can try to connect to your Wireless Network and check if you are able to go online through the Wireless Network. If you are able to go online, then it might be the problem with the WRE....
Turn ON the Power to the WRE....and check the Light Status on WRE, Both the Lights on WRE should be Blue. On your Computer which is connected to the Router, Open the Command Prompt window and Ping WRE and check if you are getting any replies.
Whats the Distance between the WRE and the Router.

  • WRT54GX4 and Mac OS X DHCP issue

    Hi,
I am using WRT54GX4 router connecting wireless from an iBook G4 with OS X 10.3.9. I connect just fine as long as I configure TCP/IP "Using DHCP with manual address".
I cannot connect if I switch to straight DHCP. In the Network Preferences window under Network Status, the Airport connection shows yellow.
    Thoughts?

ensure that the router has the latest firmware .. if not , then upgrade it first .. reset and reconfigure the router after the firmware upgrade..
if still the same issue , i guess u might need to update the drivers of the wireless adapter..

  • WRE54G V3.0 Install Issue

Am unable to successfully set up WRE54G V3 to WRT54GS.  My network is WEP enabled. Followed instructions in box about cabling to access point and site survey fails.  Ran setup from wireless box and message is unable to find an extender at end of setup.  I was able at one point to get to WRE54G web setup but have since not been able to get to setup.  I have reset the box numerous times. Any help would be appreciated.

The instructions in the box didn't work for me either. Here's how I got it working finally:
    1. Use the Ethernet cable to connect the WRE directly to an Ethernet port on your router.
    2. Using a PC attached to your router (wired or wireless), start up your browser and go to 192.168.1.240
    3. Enter the password "admin"
    4. The WRE setup screen should come up
    5. Enter the correct SSID for your Router. Save settings, the WRE may reboot, if so, go back into the WRE setup. Go into the "Edit Security Settings" tab. Enter your WEP info directly. If you have a Linksys router and used a passphrase to generate your Keys, you can enter the same passphrase in the WRE, but the case ***must*** be the same as you used in the router. Check to make sure the generated hexadecimal Keys are the same in both the router and the WEP.
    6. Confirm everything else matches your router settings (SSID, WEP settings)
    7. Save your settings to the WRE again
    8. The WRE will reboot, wait for the screen to reappear. Now exit your browser, wait a few minutes.
    9. Restart your browser, go back to the WRE (192.168.1.240), enter the password, on the setup screen confirm everything is correct (SSID, etc), go back into the Security Settings and make sure the Key Hex digits match your routers. If everything matches, Bob's your Uncle!. In my case, I had to enter the data twice before everything "took", probably becase I did not save my SSID settings before going into the "Edit Security Settings" tab.
    Good luck!

  • Instal issues with WRE54G

I have problems when trying to install the Expander. I am running the CD ROM thru my laptop which is located right next to my router (Netgear Rangemax WPN824) The Wizard finds my wireless network and I confirm it. Though when it searches for the Expander my connection to my wireless network is cut off and thus it can't find the Expander. It is only when the Wizard searches for the WRE54G that this happens. By searching for the Expander it somehow is interfering with my wireless connection and halting the process. I have tried resetting the Expander but I seem to be getting no where.
I then connected the RE to my Router and pressed the Auto config button and it seems to work. Does that seem right?

As you are using Range Extender .... few things you need to do ....
Make sure that the wireless security on the router is turned off.
Disable all firewall & antivirus on the computer .....
Connect the computer to the Range Extender .... assign static Ip to the computer .... access range extender setup page ....
Configure the wireless settings same as in the router .... power cycle the network ....
Try to ping the address from the wired computer of the router ....
Hope it works for you ....

  • Wrt54gx4 configuartion issues

The setup cd was too damaged to run so I've attempted manual.  First wireless or networking attempt ever.  Everything is conected and have pinged it sucessfully.  When attempting to connect to http://192.168.1.1 connection fails.  I also disabled firewalls and can't get in.  My computer see's the linksys but it's not configured.  Don't have any protection, it's open.
    Frustrated.

    Hi …….
Well in this case, where you are unable to log into the setup page of the router then first reset the router by holding and pressing the reset on the back panel for 30seconds.
Then try to log into the setup page of the router with http://192.168.1.1 username leave blank and the password is admin. If this still does not works then try to log into the setup page of the router from the start > run > http://192.168.1.1 .
If you are still unable to log into the setup page of the router, then try the same thing with a different Pc.

  • IMac will not get a good connection to Linksys WRT54GX4

I've seen similar reports as this, but nothing exactly like it, so I'm not sure if its the same problem or unrelated. I've got this Early 2006 20" Intel iMac. It will NOT connect correctly to my Linksys WRT54GX4 SRX400 Linksys router. It seems to work fine for a bit, but then I the connection deteriorates. I have a Macbook that has absolutely no problem.
The iMac connects to the network about 50 percent of the time. Sometimes it just says there's an error. When it does connect it works fine for a bit. The signal strength is great, and I can stream movies in iTunes to my Macbook. I don't know what causes it, but 15 minutes later or so, the signal strength is only showing 2 bars (the router is literally 20 feet away with no obstruction), and iTunes sharing of movies no longer works. This is crucial to my setup in my house, as I'm using the macbook as a faux AppleTV to watch movies on my TV that are stored on my iMac.
What's odd is that the macbook works perfectly from even further distances, as well as some of my roommates Windows PCs. And they work indefinitely. I noticed in the system profiler that the iMac and the Macbook have different Airport Card information. The iMac says it has Broadcom firmware, the Macbook just lists a version number.
Is Apple working on patching this?
If not, would I be able to get Apple to install a newer Airport Card in my iMac?

    Welcome to Discussions, MikeCP66!
You ask "Is Apple working on patching this?" to which the answer is that the patch has been successfully completed. It is AirPort Extreme Update 2007-002 plus the 10.4.9 Update, and this appears to have corrected the wireless issues of most iMac users, both Core Duo and Core 2 Duo.
I'm assuming that along with your up-to-date OS 10.4.9, you also are up to date with iMac firmware (Boot ROM Version in System Profiler), SMC firmware (SMC Version), and with AirPort Extreme Update 2007-002 recently installed.
I'm also assuming your Linksys firmware has been verified to be up to date. If you're uncertain about what I'm referring to in any of this, please ask. The Linksys and both Macs must all be set for using the exact same type of encryption, of course with the exact same network name and password.
If all the above is ok, power down your computers. Power down and disconnect your Linksys. After a minute, reconnect your Linksys and power it back up. Power your Macs back up and turn on AirPort in both, using the menu bar icons.
Open the iMac's Network panel of System Preferences. Change the "Show:" selector from "Network Status" to "AirPort" and also click "AirPort" in the menu bar of that pane.
Set the "By default, join:" selector to "Preferred networks" and delete ALL networks from the list. Click the "Apply Now" button at the bottom right, after which no name should appear in that list.
Click the "Options..." button, set the "If no preferred networks are found:" selector to "Keep looking for recent networks" and uncheck the box "Automatically add new networks to the preferred networks list."
Click the blue "OK" button, again click the "Apply Now" button, and close System Preferences. Restart the iMac. AirPort will still be turned on, it will see your correct network name, although it will not be connected to any network.
Open System Preferences to the Network panel and go to "Show: AirPort" and again to the "AirPort" pane. Click the little + box and in the drop-down box select your network's method of "Wireless Security" followed by entering the network name and password.
Click the blue "OK" button, then the "Apply Now" button at the bottom right.
Your iMac's AirPort icon should shortly darken, indicating a connection, and checking it AirPort should be connected to your network, and should stay connected the same as the MacBook's does.
If not, until proven otherwise, some speculation might be suggested to Apple that the AirPort Extreme card within the iMac is not properly connected.

  • WRE54G Web Config Page Setup - also Belkin Router F5D6321

What: I'm reposting my "reply post" text from a previous post (see below). The first time I posted it, I forgot to use "html carriage returns", so the text was hard to read. The proper carriage-returns should show in the text below.

Original Post Message Subject Header: Hi, I have a Belkin Router F5D6231-4 2.4GHz, 802.11G Wire...
The original text (with carriage returns) is shown below --->:
Before you access the Range Expander's web page, you need to gather some information (that you'll need once you do access the WRE54G web page).
    You need:
    1) The "IP Address" (of your Router/Wireless Access Point as seen by your local network). This will be something like "192.168.1.254" (depending on your local network's range of IP addresses).
    2) The "Sub-net Mask" (for your Router/Wireless Access Point as seen by your local network). Usually, this will be "255.255.255.0" (or "255.255.255.255").
    3) The (Default) "Gateway" Address (for your Router/Wireless Access Point as seen by you local network). This will usually be the "first" IP address in your network's range of IP addresses. For our example network above having a range of IP addresses of 192.168.1.1 through 192.168.1.255, the first IP address is "192.168.1.1" and so the "Gateway" Address will probably be "192.168.1.1".
    4) The "SSID" (Site Survey ID) of your network. This is the network name of your local network (i.e. the one you originally logged onto the network if you've already connected your computer wirelessly up with the router/wireless Access Point).
    5) The "Channel" your Wireless Access Point is using (from "1" through "11". A typical "Channel" used is "6".
    6) Wireless Network Encryption - you need to know if you are using encryption on your wireless network. You'll most likely either not be using it or your will be using either 40-bit (really 64-bit) WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) encryption, 128-bit WEP encryption, or the newer standard WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key) security settings. When you get to the WRE54G web-based configuration page, you will need to "enable" Security Settings (if yoiur using it) and then, in the next web config page that appears, enter WEP encryption key or enter the WPA-PSK pre-shared key used that is currently used for your local wireless network.
NOTE: In the WRE54G web configuration page, if you are using encryption, BEFORE you enter the info (into the web-page configuration fields) noted in Item 1 through 5 above, you will want to click the "enable" button for "Wirelss Security", then click on the "Edit Security Settings" button, enter your encryption key on the next web page that appears, and then click on the "Save" button at the bottom of the web-page. The WRE54G will save your security setting to its Flash memory and then re-boot itself. You may want to unplug/replug the AC power to the WRE54G at this time and then re-log in to the WRE54G at its IP address of 192.168.1.240 (which I will explain how to do below).
Before accessing the WRE54G web-based configuration page by pointing your web browser to "192.168.1.240", do the following:
    A. Connect the Ethernet cable that came with the WRE54G Ver.3 to the WRE54G (lift the small lid on the top of the WRE54G and plug the Ethernet CAT-5 cable into the RJ-45 jack there). Then plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into your computers RJ-45 jack (I assume your computer has one, right?).
    B. Change your computer's IP Address to use a "Manual" IP address rather than "DHCP". Then enter the following "static" IP address: "192.168.1.50". This is an good example address, but other addresses in the range of "192.161.1.XXX" where X is 1 to 255 will work (except I would not use 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.240, or 192.168.1.255).
    C. Plug the WRE54G into the AC power. (check the lights on the WRE54G to make sure they are correct - the WRE54G startup documentation talks about this or I can give details later).
    D. Boot up your computer (make sure the network setting still show "manual" IP address and a static IP address of "192.168.1.50".
    E. Bring up your web browser and enter into the address field the WRE54G's IP address of "192.168.1.240".
    F. In less than a minute, the web-based configuration page should appear. Proceed cautiously to enter the configuration values as I've noted above in Steps 1 - 6. After clicking on the "Save" button at the bottom of the WRE54G's web pages, the WRE54G will always do a "reboot". I suggest unplugging and replugging the WRE54G into the AC after each reboot (just to make sure a cold reboot actually happens).
NOTE: I would also suggest that you enter the "IP Address" of the Wireless Access Point (see Step 1 above) LAST after entering and saving all the other WRE54G configuration values. That way, you will still be able to log onto the WRE54G at the default IP Address of "192.168.1.240" and make sure all the values are saved correctly (in case you make a mistake and enter the wrong IP Address for the Wireless Access Point). Note that each time you reboot the WRE54G and log into it with your web browser, you will want to "Refresh" the web-page screen when you go to "192.168.1.240" so you can see the updated page contents. If you screw up the configuration, you can always use the "reset" button (you need to use a paper clip to push it) on the side of the WRE54G to reset the WRE54G back to its default values. Then you can start over from the beginning.
My experience has been that if you have correctly configured the WRE54G and it works on your wireless network, you will be able to unhook the "hard-wired" Ethernet cable (from between the WRE54G and your computer) and still be able to wirelessly access the WRE45G at its IP address of "192.168.1.240" using your web browser
If you want, you can change the WRE54G's Password (or Username and Password) to values only you know so no one will be able to get into your WRE54G and change your settings maliciously or inadvertantly. Let me know if the above helps you or just confuses you.

    Hi AngryDrake,
    Thanks for providing that information.
Are you working from Parallels, Fusion or from some sort a VPN environment?
If you are using the printer in a virtual environment, then please try accessing the printer's EWS in a regular environment just to see if you have the same results.
Use Safari when accessing the printer's EWS, other browsers sometimes won't allow it to open.
Since the printer is setup on the network and you are able to print, you just can't access the printer's  EWS, I would  update the firmware on the printer which should allow you then to access the printer's  EWS through a regular environment. HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf Multifunction Printer Drivers.
Select your operating system, click next, click the link for firmware.
If you are still having issue, then make sure the printer is connected directly to the Router or Airport and not a switch.
Please let me know the results.
    Thank You.

  • Why is WAP54G RPT MODE better than WRE54G?

    Hello,
I have a project to expand a wireless network to another building with two floors.  The proximity is close (literally only 15 feet between the walls), but only clients with great antennas/wifi cards would be able to reach the router in the main building, so I want to expand the wireless signal into the new building.  The new building is two floors high, has no dropped ceiling or other ceiling/wall access, there is no conduit available between buildings, and no feasible way to run a wire, so my only real choice is to expand the signal coverage from the main building to the new building via wifi.  I have read many posts on many different forums covering this topic.  I understand that having multiple WRE54G repeaters has created reliability issues for some people.  Too bad, because these are nice, discrete little units and would be ideal for what I need to do.  I have seen several people recommend WAP54G units in repeater mode (no hardwired connection to the main router) in place of WRE54G units.  What is the difference?  Are they technically doing the same thing, and do you lose bandwidth by half with either unit?  Is it just that the WAP54G has been more reliable?  Not that bandwidth is my most important concern, reliability is my main concern, but I do have to deal with the issue of mounting these high on interior walls.  Does the WRE54G v3 exhibit the same problematic issues that previous versions 1 and 2 did?  I have a WRE54G v3 that I installed, and upgraded the firmware.  I have to admit, setting it up with a WRT54G was problematic, but once it was set up, it hasn't lost its link since (just going on one week now).  I do not have WEP enabled yet, I'm just using MAC address filtering from the WRT54G.  My proposed configuration is:
WAP54G in main building, just inside the outer wall.
WRE54G in the 2nd building on the first floor.
WRE54G in the 2nd building on the second floor.
Both WRE54G devices would directly connect to the WAP54G, one would not connect through another.  Does anyone see any potential problems?  Also, we have an extra WRT300N that was donated that we were just going to use as a WAP by deconflicting the IP with the router and turning off DHCP.  Any problems using the WRE54G with the WRT300N?
Thanks in advance to all that reply for your experience and insight.

Thanks again for your response.  It is not practical to run an Ethernet cable from building one to building two, that's why I'm finding this to be a little extra complicated.  The conduit situation is a total mess and they left no pull-throughs.  Outdoor routing is not an option either.  Thanks for your comment on the umbrella coverage characteristic, I had not heard that before but that will definitely be taken into consideration with our placement of the client-specific WAP.  It's not a simple two-story building - the first floor is longer than the second floor, and the extra large space on the first floor is at one end and is where most of the WAP clients will be located.  We'll be doing a lot of testing.
After performing more exhaustive research on these devices, I have decided to use the entry-level small business line - like a WAP54GP - because I need to have reliable wireless bridging between buildings one and two.  However, everything I've read about units in this category shows that the N+gr model WG 102 has the same capabilities and performs noticeably better, especially at extended range.  It's just a little more difficult to configure, but most people are very impressed with it.  I purchased a WAP54GP anyway for testing purposes and will be able to compare the two in actual use.
