Write a book in pages; export to ibook author

Normally, I write a whole book in one pages for mac file. Now that I would like to import to iBook Author, I discovered that I have to import as one chapter per pages file.
Is there a way to write a whole book in one pages for mac file and able to export to ibook author without having to split the whole book into multiple files (one per chapter)?
In a sense, how do we inform ibook author that we have more than one chapter in one pages file?

Difficulty importing Pages document into iBooks Author

Maybe I'm doing something wrong--but when I insert a Pages document (made up of 16 pages of images), iBooks Author collapses the 16 pages of images into a single page, adding the additional pages as blank pages. Same thing happens when I insert the file as an MS Word file.
Shouldn't it be easy to insert a Pages into iBooks Author?

Should be....but....there is no simple lever to pull that amounts to a fitz-all recipe.
Experiment with different iBA templates using copy/paste from your source.

Can a person write a book with Pages 5?

I can't find any way to define a left and right page. If a chapter is a section, how do you tell Pages 5 that a new chapter (section) should always start on the left hand page? I'm finding it very difficult to update my book to Pages 5.

Just one of 110 features removed in Pages 5.
Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.

Any one having problems inserting Pages files into iBook author"

Ever since I updated the Pages a week ago, iBook Author is unable to read Pages files while attempting to insert. Never had a problem in previous versions of Pages or files created a few months ago. The only work around is to copy text and past into new sections in iBook Author. Tedious. Any solution appreciated.

I ran some tests with a new Pages 5 doc saved in both Pages 5 format and exported to Pages 09 format, and iBA had no problem importing them. So perhaps the problem is confined to older docs.

Importing full-page images into iBooks Author (without image degradation)

Hi ,, I have had little success importing images created with paint programs such as Corel Sketchpad, Photoshop, Corel Painter, etc. Everything seems to work just fine, but there are pixelated artifacts in the final image that shows on the iPad. I create the orginal images at 1024 x 768 ... and save them as high-qulaity jpgs and pngs .... but still poor qualiting especially where large blocks of solid colors are adjacent to one another.
When I use a vector program such as Flash or Illustrator and export those images as jpgs ... they look perfect on my iPad. I don't want to use a vector program however ... I want to use paint programs.
Anyway have success with paint program images? If so, what is your step-by-step process? Hopefully Apple will fix this bug so that paint program's exported jpgs don't have pixelated artifacts at edge areas. There is also a very noticeable color shift in the imported image .. much ligher and less saturated colors.

An iPad 2 screen is 132 - new ipad is 264.
In cases where you're seeing noticable degradation I wouldn't work with less than 132.
Start high and reduce....don't try to make low do something it can't by simply adjusting the resolution up.
I tend to avoid those 'paint programs' And remember, this isn't just about iBooks Author....iOS does the heavy lifting, but sure, it can only do as good as iBA spits out. I think they're working to trim the sails on compression etc. and it will only get better over time.
The @2x scheme is working well for iOS - I have some stunning graphics for the new iPad in my latest app.

Enhanced book for iPad, built on iBooks Author

Hi all
I am sorry if these are similar questions to ones asked before, but I wondered if things might be different since they were last asked.
I have delivered an enhanced book built for iPad and it is currently in the review status, not in 51 stores. My questions (of which I have heard many myths about):
1) As it's an enhanced book (created on iBooks Author), there are lots of videos, galleries etc which make the publication about 1 gig. I have heard that although there is a 2 gig limit, some authors have had responses from Apple saying that it should be kept to max 200mb and therefore rejected. True or false do you reckon?
2) Mine is a travel guide about a specific area of Spain and it is all about solutions to the traveller. Therefore as well as lots of text, there is a Useful Links section that links to companies websites such as car hire - their logos are next to the URL's in my book. Do you think Apple will be ok with their logos visible and external web links? It is simple to remove it if necessary but in truth it is a resource for my readers.
3) I have heard varying reports of 3 hours to 55 days for the review process to be complete. Does anybody know if it is longer for an enhanced book due to the complexitied of its build?
4) I have heard reports that if it fails, Apple will tell you how to rectify it. Is this true and is it easy to resubmit?
5) I have also heard reports of Apple simply rejecting without explanation. That would be so painful. I have spent 6 months and a lot of investment. I would be devestated. is this true?
6) Any other advice? It has been in review for 3 days only so far. Any ideas on current wait time for enhanced books built for ipad, created on iBooks Author?

1. Max size is 3 GB, but take into acount you want updates at some stage and need to allow "space"
2. URLs are usually excepted IF they are not competitors of Apple iBooks Store - ie Amazon. Any logo is usually copyrighted by the company. Any potential copyright infringements could be rejected by th review team.
3. Time taken in Review depends how busy they are without regard to your content.
4. If your book fails the review, you will be issued a ticket - A recent email advised changed to the ticketing procedures.
Ticket Catalog Report
The Catalog Reports module on iTunes Connect now contains a Ticket Catalog Report. The report contains details for all tickets that have been assigned to your iTunes Connect account.
iBooks Store Formatting Guidelines Update
The iBooks Store Formatting Guidelines include important information to help you avoid common errors when publishing on the iBooks Store. The new version of the guidelines includes updated information for copyrighted terms, supported languages, series metadata, What's New descriptions, book assets files, and more.

5. The review team will pass or fail your book, fail is dealt with above. Pass... means its in the store. All you need to do is keep checking status in iTC.
6. is the same asnwer as 3. You wait and Check in iTC to monitor if your book is passed or ticketed.
Other advice, open iTC > Deliver your Content > on the top right are a number of PDF, download and read study them. Below them is a video.. take time to view the video and take notes.
The above extracts are from an email from iBooks, the links should still work, if not they are basically to open your iTunes Connect - Deliver your content section.
Last bit of advice, check everything at least twice before uploading to the store. Remember issues with copyright. Dont use anything just because its online. Dont copy text or images from other websites and give credits/links to any that are subject to Common Licence conditions... and finally.. be patient, time , tide and Apple move at their own speed.

Unable to open book that I created in iBooks author

I created a book in iBooks author on my mac, emailed it to myself as an iBook, and when I try opening it on my iPad 2 (which is running the most updated version of iOS7) when i got the message "unable to open book." I have tried deleting iBooks and redownloading it only to get the same message. I also sent myself a different version of the book I made and it still won't open on my iPad. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

Frankly, I don't know what's happening, but I can offer you some options. I only hope that you'll post here with the results so others can solve this:
If you have access to another computer, see if you can send the iBook to your iPad via Dropbox. I know this works for PDFs; I'm hoping it also works for other ebooks.

Can't add books from iBooks Author

I have 4 books that I exported from iBooks Author and tried to copy them to iBooks, however since I upgraded to Yosemite, I can only add one book and after this it tells me for the subsequent books that the book is already in the library (as above) even though this is not the case.
I am using a Mac Pro with all the latest updates.
I am also experiencing the same issue copying the files from Google Drive / Dropbox on to the iPad

Make all images INLINE and NOT FLOATING.
Use styes for at least headings one and two to eventually have a great TOC in ePub.

In ibooks author how to make an existing page start a new section

I have imported a Pages document into ibook authors (version 2.1.1 in OS 10.9.1) using the Classic Text Template. The original Pages document was basically a book, with title and table of contents and forward and several sections. Now everything is one huge unit. During the import I can choose a layout, but only a chapter or a section. Then all of the document is regarded as having that layout -- every page is regarded as having the section layout, for example, though only the first page has the smaller text area and the large text as a header. I can see all the layout possibilities in the Layouts sidebar, and they include section and forward and 1 column. When I hover the cursor over a particular page the book sidebar I see the little triangle that has been mentioned, and it offers options for changing layout, but it does not allow me to make that page a new section or a forward. I can only make the page 2 column or put a sidebar on it. I cannot see how I can import the book and be able to create chapters and sections with ibooks author. I can insert a new section layout, or a new page, but I do not see how to to change a page, after it is imported and is considered to be the text of a chapter or section, into the start of a new chapter or section. I do not find anything in the inspector or on the menubar or in the help center that makes this change. The "add a chapter title" does not change the layout to make the text box smaller, as it should for a layout. Is it actually possible to convert a Pages book into an ibook authors book, or must I create the blank chapters and sections in ibook authors and then cut and paste each section from Pages?

The advice given for iBA, is to preplan your book. Modify an exsiting template as your layout suits you, to present a quality book to your readers.
iBooks Author is really more "app" than a book maker like inDesign or even Pages, - and users should really get to know how to use it before starting out on a serious project.
The insert options are clear - you can insert a Chapter from MS Word or Pages in iBA a "chapter" is a distinct "standalone" part of a book which can include sections and pages as required. Sections can be moved up or down within their chapter or can be copied from one chapter to another. The pages in any chapter are static and the only way to change content location is copy and paste.
From your post, its seems you decided to create you book using Pages and in one chapter expecting iBA to reformat it.
I would suggest a solution is to count your chapters and add that number into an iBA new book, then copy your Pages chapters. I would guess that the whole process would take less than 30 minutes.
Apple recieves feedback and suggestions for improvements, however the last update made very few changes to the application and none of those seen in many posts - such as being able to move pages. This indicates that Apple at least, are satisfied that the version is functional enough for how Apple see books being made for its store. 12 months ago this forum was taking hundreds of posts per day asking advice, its now a trickle- which I take to be in indicator that as a group, iBA users have taught themselves how to use the application and its many options and third party add on's. iBA is more suited to the interactive side of publications as Apple intended, creating a mainly text only "novel" seems to be considered by Apple as the easy part!

Existing books re-created with iBooks Author

Alright, I am working for a company who is publishing and selling harcopy books.
Now, I used iBooks Author to create one of these books into iBooks and I am about to sign-up with Apple to have this book into the Store but I want to be sure that I will still have the rights to sell the hard copy of this book as in the license agreement, it says:
IMPORTANT NOTE:
If you charge a fee for any book or other work you generate using this software (a “Work”), you may only sell or distribute such Work through Apple (e.g., through the iBookstore) and such distribution will be subject to a separate agreement with Apple.
Does that mean that I can only sell this ebook via Apple and can still sell the hard copies to the shops?
I really want to make sure, I am not turning over my copyrights to Apple or some stuff like that.
I would prefer that someone from Apple answers to this question as this is quite an important matter for me.

Turn off page numbers in ibooks

I am writing a booklet so when you fold a 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper in half you get a small booklet that is 5 1/2 x 8 1/2. I am using the ibooks Author basic template called "floral structures". Since there is two pages of book per one sheet of 8 1/2 x 11, I would like to have each page numbered but ibooks author thinks that one sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 is one page so I end up getting only half of the book pages numbered. It is driving me bananas. Can someone help? Tell me if you need any more information. Thank you.

Family history/genealogy book by Ibooks Author

Hello,
At the moment I got a Family history/genealogy book in hardcopy (2003) it's 11 years old.
In these eleven years a lot of events happend. To get an updated family book I want to use Ibooks Author to create a digital version so you can added information to your book anytime.
I allready got all the current information till 2003 in a spreadsheet
I would like to know if there is a template/format to create digital family history book with Ibooks Author.
Specially for all the links between all the family members so they are clickable.

You can also contact Bookry or ibooks-widgets.com and other similar online outlets who are possible able to create a template to your specifications.
You could aalso take time to learn how to modify existing template to suits your purpose.

iBooks Author as an "Insert Hyperlink" function which covers, website, email, Book marks and Figures.
Portrait mode free templates may not be suitable.. but Landscape templates will only allow a short "tree" unless you use smaller print or sectionalise the families lines.

Formatting lost importing Pages to iBooks Author

I having a problem importing a text file from Pages '09 to iBooks Author maintaining some formatting.
My Pages document has some text in bold and some in bold and italics in addition to normal text. Everything is in Arial font in Pages.
When I import the document into iBooks Author all the bold italic text shows up as normal text. About 75% of the bold only text shows up as bold and the rest as normal. When the bold words are in the middle of other text, the bold format is maintained. When the bold text is at the start of a line it shows up as bold or normal after the import.
Any help would be appreciated.

Check the styles in use on the Pages side versus the styles applied on the iBA side....
Test to see if they are reliably honored....

Most common errors in submitting book created in iBA to iBooks?

I'm getting ready to submit a book I've created in iBooks Author to the iBooks store. (Still waiting on approval from iTunes Connect.) Judging by discussions in this forum, many submissions fail because of problems with the iBA file that is sent to iBooks. I'm wondering what the most common mistakes are--so I can avoid them! My book looks fine on my iPad in preview but I have a feeling iBooks will have numerous issues with it when I submit it. What kinds of things should I be aware of so I don't get "ticketed" by iBooks?
