Write access other file systems - NTFS, extX, reiser?

Hi,
I've purchaseda Media NMH410 to connect to my WRT160N router and am having difficulty gaining write access to my connected USB drives. I've tried NTFS, extX and reisfer file systems, and none of them will allow me write access when connected to the hub. I can't go with fat32 because of the 4GB file size limitation. The Mediahub really should also be able to write to NTFS considering most every other linux disitribution these days can.
I expected that since the box is a linux system it would be able to access read/write other linux file systems so thought I could move my data to a linux file system. I've learned to expect encountering access problems with NTFS but am very disappointed the MediaHub is presenting these access problems with other linux file systems.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to gain write access to my other drives. Is there a setting somewhere, or do I need to format in a particular fashion w/switches or something to that affect. And why isn't the hub able to write access another drives formatted even in the same file system (reiser, right)?

It appears the Mediahub can ONLY write to external USB devices if they are FAT32? That just seems so odd to me - it's a linux Oistro (albeit slimmed down), I would expect it to have the ability to write to other linux filesystems. or at a minimum, the same filesystem (reiser).

"Accessing" is vague. Do you want to read? write? Both?
Here are two ways I'll mention.
1. Write an ftp client for the "cleint" computer. I beleive java has some framework functions for doing this.
2. Write java RMI client and server to open, read or write, and close a file. Pass a byte array parameter containing each block of data.

No write access to file

I have a blackberry curve 8330. I made a voice note(amr) and then I foolishly made it mid.file so I could make it a ringtone(stupid I know) now I can't delete it because it says no write access to file(or file is in use can not delete but file is not playable and it is not associated with no contacts as a custom ring). I have tried file pro manager and other file managers but I still can't get the audio file off my memory and the file doesn't play just a waste of space. Can you help me?

Access Denied when access to File System Repository

Hi,
Our SAP Portal install in Windows 2003, and access to a unix's file system that created from File System Repository of Portal. When I access it in KM content, SAP Portal return the following message:
System Error
An exception occurred during the program execution. Below you will find technical information pertaining to this exception that you might want to forward to your system administrator.
Exception Class: class com.sapportals.wcm.repository...
Exception Message: Access denied
If I double-click any file,
IE return 403: The requested operation is forbidden for this resource.
Please help me to fix this problem?
PS: The unix's file system mode is 777.
The permission of folder in Portal File System Repository is everyone full control.

to my knowledege, this combination is not supported. You can integrated Windows-File-Shares in a Unix-Portal: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/ed/b334ea02a2704388d1d2fc3e4298ad/frameset.htm but not the other way round

Want to access network file system using JFileChooser

I want to access and display the drives of a network file system in the JFileChooser dialog. For example by specifying a machine name, I want to access the drives(C, E, F....) of that machine. Can anyone please guide me on how to go forward with this.

1: If you want the applet to access the client's local file system you'll have to sign the applet. There is a tutorial some where on the java.sun.com that explains how to sign an applet.
2: No you;ll need to use an applet to display swing or awt components on the client browser.

No write access to files copied from a CD-ROM

Hello:
I have searched and found a few topics on fixing permissions on files copied from CD-ROM that are read only. I would like to know if there is a way to prevent the problem. I routinely get files burned on Windows machines and I can copy the folders and enclosed files to my desktop but both the folders and the files inside show up with "Read Only" permissions.
While it is possible to fix it, I would have thought that if they are copied from a CD-ROM to my desxtop that I should automatically have write access to them. Any ideas on what might be causing this?

Repartitioning and reformatting will remove all the information on the drives. You will prefer to backup any data you wish to save. You can do that by transferring those files to one of the two drives using a Windows computer or by purchasing a third drive that can be OS X formatted to which the data on one of the Windows drives may be copied. Then repartition/reformat one of the Windows drives for OS X and copy the data from the third drive to this drive. Then copy the data on the remaining Windows drive to the now empty third drive, repartition/reformat the second Windows drive. Finally, copy the data from the third drive to the second Windows drive.
There is really no need for a Time Capsule nor would it be preferred since you will now have three perfectly good external drives to use for backups and/or storage.

Problem:Accessing the file system with servlets ???

I have a strange problem with my servlets that run on Win2000 with Apache and 2 Tomcat instances.
I cannot open files through servlets whereas exactly the same code lines work in local standalone java programm.
It seems to be somehting like a rights problem...but I dont know what to do.

no I didn't get error messages as the relevant lines for reading/writing where between try statements, but you were where right it was/is just a simple path problem.
I expected the refering directory without using a path to be the directory where the servlet is in, but it is not !!??
Do you know if I set this in the setclasspath.bat of tomcat ?

Netfile error when trying to access Windows2000 file systems

Hi,
I'm trying to access Windows 2000 files with the NetFile applet, but I get the following error:
NetFile error: win interface software not found...please install and configure for accessing windows hosts.
I'm running the portal server 6.2, and installed the 3rd party softwares as described in the installation guide.
In the log files, I see the following errors.

Is there any configuration of Samba needed ? (I have no smb.conf file, but nothing says in the manuals that I have to...).

Regarding calling API, you may need to use Java PL/SQL, and use java to call API.

Security Problem when Access Other File types

we have report files in pdf and excel that generated from java.
we then call this file from browser through URL :http://java1.sdc-net/msp/excel/result/workbook.xls.
this just work fine, but when we implement j2ee declarative security constraint (we use custom jdbc realms):

What kind of errors are you getting ?.Do you able to login without any problem ?.Could you enable the log level in security to FINEST and set the Audit enabled to true and run the application. It will tell you what's going wrong.
Let us know the result and please post the logs.

HELP!: How to read and write to External hard drives? What file system to use?

hey all, this has been really frustrating for me today. i want to be able to write to an external HDD that's formatted in NTFS. today i find out it isn't possible to write to this file system on a Mac and that on FAT32 it is possible. however, FAT32 can't address files larger than 4GB so this hurts me a lot. are there any other file systems that'll allow me to read and write from a Mac? my goal was to use freeNAS to build a NAS with an old tower and connect my external hard drives to it, but if i can't write to them this may not be possible.

Why can't I access the K1 file system from my PC?

I could access the entire file system excluding the data folder yesterday. However since installing Letools, I no longer can drag-and-drop photos and movies to the K1 from Windows Explorer. I uninstalled Letools, but I still can't access the file system.

Thank you for trying to help. We have compared security mode settings and their Macs say that commenting is allowed, while mine says it's not allowed. I'm assuming this is why I can't highlight and they can. But I dont understand why they're different? The files this happens to are PDFs that our college classes assign as reading- so we all go to the same place to access these PDFs and save them, so the security modes shouldn't be different, but they are. Any idea why? Are Macs just enabled to do this for whatever reason and PCs aren't?
