Write fractions for a quiz question in Captivate 8

I'm creating a math quiz using Captivate 8 and I would like to write fractions in a Random Quiz Slide better than "3/4".  I'm using Myriad Pro font and have the question and answer reporting to an LMS and an email reporting widget.  I need fractions that are not presets like 1/2 or 2/3.  I need 7/15th etc.  Anyone know how to accomplish this?

Did you try MathMagic? It is included with Captivate, but the resulting formulas will be images.

  • Quiz questions in Captivate 7

    I'm fairly new to Captivate, but well-versed with other Adobe products.
    I'm working on quiz questions in Captivate 7, but maybe (hopefully?) I'm doing it all wrong. Outlined below:
    Need questions sprinkled throughout the module, we call them "Check Your Understanding." For now, true/false, multiple choice, etc. Will eventually include rollovers, etc.
    Currently, I have a multiple choice question. Slide begins with a header caption created with two shapes and a text caption with "Check Your Understanding." Would like that entire group to fly in from the left for seven seconds. When I preview the slide, half of the group is visible, but unmoving unless I hit Play. I thought it should play automatically?
    Second, when the question is submitted, even if the question is wrong, it just advances to the next slide. I need to require a correct answer before moving on OR the correct answer to show, and maybe a reason why. I can't get any of that to work.
    I don't have a need for the results/review slide to show at the end, but is that inhibiting the result from displaying on the slide itself?
    Thank you!

    Hello and welcome to the forum,
    Is this a default question slide or a custom question slide created using standard objects and advanced actions? If it is a default MCQ be careful not to delete objects that are normally available on the master slide for that question, you can make them invisible but deleting (with the exception of some buttons) could lead to weird results. You are using an effect I suppose for the group? Look at the timeline (or better post a screenshot of the timeline): for a default question slide there will be a pausing point (used by the two-step process of that question slide: http://blog.lilybiri.com/question-question-slides-in-captivate) and I suspect that this pause is interrupting your fly-in effect.
    Read the blog post about the behavior of question slides please. And it is a good practice not to have the playbar available for question slides. Another intuition tells me that by hitting Play you forced the playhead to pass over the pausing point, in the inactive part of the slide and that is why the playhead continues after submitting.

  • How to enable "On Exit" property for a Quiz Question?

    Maybe there is a better way of doing this, but I'm making a quick jeopardy game using Captivate 8, and I'm simply trying to get the board buttons/shapes to disappear after they have been clicked. I was using advanced actions where the first action would take you to the question and the second action would hide the shape that is acting as a button. Doing so I am finding that it works for the first one, and then only intermittently for the rest. Most of them will simply hide and do nothing, even though I've confirmed all advanced actions are correct and backward movement is possible.
    So what I was trying to do was separate the actions. Have the actions on the board simply jump to the quiz slide and then let the quiz slide "on exit" simply hide the button as the user returns to the board. Then I notice the "On Exit" property for the quiz slide is not usable. How do I enable this?
    By the way, I am not using the jeopardy interaction because I'm making a more custom looking board with some extra scoring features which are working well.

    Have written 4 posts about shared actions. And certainly for processes where you need duplicate actions a lot, like for your game, in CP8 shared actions allow you to have variables and literals as parameters. Here are the post links:

  • Survey Quiz Questions in Captivate 7

    I have a quiz in Captivate 7. 15 questions are graded. 5 questions are short answer (survey questions) not graded. I want to show the results of the 15 graded questions, then e-mail the survey question results to another user. How do I do this?

  • How do I change the color of the matching letter in a matching quiz question in Captivate 8?

    The default dropdown box has white text with a white background. The text for the questions and answers is black. That doesn't change the dropdown letter to black, though. I've tried changing the default styles, and it only changes the main text, not the letters in the dropdown box. An old post for captivate 5.5 mentions changing the text color to differ from the dropdown answer color, but I want the reverse--the dropdown letter color to match the rest of the text. Actually, I'd take any color that would show up on the default white background for the box.
    Please, any answers in layperson terms. I don't know code and am refamiliarizing myself with Captivate after a few years away from it.
    Thanks,
    Sally

    I probably should add that it is only on publish that the text color changes to white. When I'm working in the Captivate program, the dropdown text appears black.

  • Slide numbers and Quiz slides in Captivate 8

    How do I add slide numbers to Captivate?
    Also, in my course, I need to add quiz questions and then final test questions. Quiz questions are not added into the final score, but final test would be tabulated into the final course score.
    How do I do this? (I noticed that with survey questions, there is not a review page to show the correct answer. Survey questions also seem to still be included in graded question score reporting.)
    Any guidance would be much appreciated!
    Thank you

    There are several system variables available. I have upgraded my list for CP8 and will publish it soon. But those you need are already in a post about CP6: System variables in Captivate 6 - Captivate blog
    For slide number you need cpInfoCurrentSlide, which starts with 1 (most numbering starts with 0). Insert that var in a text container, using the X button in the Style tab of the properties panel,
    the Character portion.
    As for the Quiz question:  you can uncheck to include a score in the Quiz total. Advanced Interaction panel (F9) is a good place to check all scored objects, and to see whether they are included in the Quiz total or not. Most quizzing system variables will adapt to the situation, score and percentage, maximum possible score will not take into account the questions that are not adding their score to the total score. However some variables will include the knowledge questions: total number of questions is one of them. This means that you have probably to tweak the score slide, to create a score slide yourself. Check the same list with system variables to create a custom score slide. Maybe this blog post can help, although the subject is bit different: Intermediate Score Slides - Captivate blog
    Another approach would be pretest slides, but it has a lot of limitations: navigation will disappear, pretest slides have to be together at start of the course.

  • Captivate 6 - Published - PDF does not play quiz questions

    I just published my captivate 6 presentation.  I am launching the .pdf file to view.  At the end, the quiz questions do not work.  I get a white screen and not my questions.  Any ideas?  Thanks

    Below is a screen shot of the published settings.  The whole training presentation plays as expected.  Then when it gets to the quiz questions I get a white screen and nothing happens.
    After I publish, I go to the zip file and run the pdf version.
    This is for someone to view the training outside of our LMS system.

  • Is there a way I can randomize quiz questions in Adobe Captivate 6 on multiple attempts?

    I am trying to find a way in Captivate 6 to randomize quiz questions out of a pool (i.e.; 50 random questions slides are linked to a pool containing 63 questions, I want to allow for 3 attempts).  Things work great witht he first attempt, but Captivate 6 is not generating new questions when I click the Retake Quiz button after failing the first attempt.  Captivate 6 simply gives the exact same 50 questions as the first attempt in the exact same order.  Is there any way around this issue in Captivate 6?  Thank you in advance for any suggestions you have!

    Rod, just thinking out loud, and maybe this is too complex...
    Could (generic) you insert multiple random-question-slides and then control which slide is viewed based on how many quiz attemps have been made?
    That is..
    Slide 1 - question 1a
    Slide 2 - question 1b
    Slide 3 - question 1c
    On first attempt, go to slide 1, skip slide 2 and 3.  On second attempt, skip slide 1, go to slide 2, skip slide 3.  On third attempt, skip slides 1 and 2, go to slide 3.
    Could you use the cpQuizInfoAttempts variable to control the slide order with an advanced action?

  • Captivate 4 Arbitrarily Changing Quiz Question Values?

    I've got a client who uses Captivate 4, and she's having a problem with quiz score values.  She has 12 separate assessments, each with either 10, 15, or 25 questions, and she's very sure she has consistent question values in each so that each quiz adds up to 100 points.
    Other users have opend the .cp movies and found the quizzes don't add up. Some vary as much as 10 points.  When she opens the files, they're at 100 points.  I opened one in Cap 5.5 and found that the value of two questions changed.
    Any ideas on what's going on?  I do remember that another client a few years ago was having scoring fits with Cap 3 along these same lines.  I don't know if he ever found a solution.
    Thanks.

    Were any of these quiz questions originally created in an earlier version of Captivate and then upgraded?
    Is this client using Report as SCORE instead of Report as PERCENTAGE in Quiz Settings?
    If using SCORE, and you always need to have the questions add up to 100 for everything to work, I would suggest you try using Percentage instead.  It's usually easier to work with.

  • Question about Quiz Screens in Captivate 2

    Is it possible to add an image to a quiz screen? I want to
    make an assessment in Captivate using some of the quiz question
    templates, but I want to add an image to it so the user can look at
    the image for reference. Is that possible?
    Or would it be better to create a scenario based learning
    environment?

    Hi Nicole
    Hmmm, for that, I suppose I'd simply create a blank slide and
    insert the image. Then insert your verbiage advising what the user
    should do. I'd do that using Text Captions. Lastly, I'd insert a
    Click Box object on the slide surrounding the area I want them to
    click. Then configure your scoring and feedback as desired.
    Voilà! No Question slide needed.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Captivate 5 knowledge check vs. quiz question issue

    I would like to include question slides in my Captivate 5 project that do not score and are just used as quick knowledge checks.  I also will have a quiz at the end that will score and report to our LMS. I have tried a number of things, but none are taking the knowledge check questions out of the question total or the review quiz functionality.
    I have tried marking the knowledge check questions as "survey" instead of "graded," and unchecked "report answers."  I don't see any other options available to me.  When I press F9, I cannot edit the question settings.  It looks like the Object ID may be causing my issue (since it is the same ID as the main quiz), but it doesn't seem like I can change that.
    Any ideas?

    When you say the survey questions are not being excluded from the quiz, are your talking about the progress captions that say Question X of Y?
    If so, you should be aware that you can turn off these markers and create your own by inserting captions that use Variables and Advanced Actions to calculate the question number.
    If you've set the score for the survey questions to 0 and unticked the box to prevent them from being included in reprorting, they shouldn't be affecting the overall pass/fail score for the user.

  • Captivate 5: Quiz question timing

    I created two quiz questions that have voice-over.  When the trainee answers the question and presses "y" or clicks anywhere, the module does not advance to the next screen.  It stays on the question slide for 41.9 seconds.  I tried to change the slide timing, but it just keeps reverting back to 41.9.  Does anyone know how I can change the timing or make the click/press work?

    Good question.  The voice-over is 26 seconds long.
    I just tried making two slides:  One with the voice over and one with just the question.  The question slide is still 41.9 seconds.  I'm beginning to think the time is tied to the length of the explanation when it is answered incorrectly.
    I remember in previous versions of Captivate, the programmer had control over what happens when the trainee clicks the screen or types a letter.  I don't see that interaction anymore.

  • No User Results for my Quiz Analyzer Captivate 6

    Hi,
    I have a Problem with getting the results of my Adobe Catipvate 6 Quiz. Just made a quiz an published it by Acrobat.com. The Student download and finished the Quiz and wanted to sent the Quiz Results to Acrobat.com.
    He must put in his Email-Adress/Adobe ID and his password. After he clicks the publish button, there dissapears: Acrobat.com Failure, even when he has an Acrobat.com Account.
    Can somebody help me to get the results of my students in the Quiz Analyzer tool?

    Hi Vikram,
    we already tried different Accounts and the students also acknowledged the Acrobat.com E-mail that there are different Information for them on Acrobat.com. They also have created an
    Adobe ID before.
    Hope you have another Idea.
    Our main issue is to get the results of the survey of the students, that we can analyze them. The problem is we need the information what especially was the answer of
    any single student so for example Student7 answered Question 2 with Answer B. There is no right or wrong in our survey.
    Another Question would be, if we cannot fix that problem: Is there are an opportunity to get the results local for a survey or can we sent the quiz data in swf and html to the students, they
    finish the survey and send us the data back? How we can get the results after that in our Quiz Analyzer Tool?
    Maybe you have for that problem an idea?
    Thanks,
    Martin

  • Captivate 7, sequencing quiz question, answers are not reshuffled

    Hello,
    I have made a quiz using Cp7. The questions are all sequencing questions. The first time around, the answers are shuffled, as one would expect. Then the quiz-taker puts the answers in the correct order. However, the following times the quiz-taker does the quiz, the answers aren't shuffled! So if the quiz-taker gets Question 1 right the first time, when he or she tries the quiz again, the answers for Question 1 are in the right order when the question first opens.
    Does anyone know what's going on here?
    Thank you. Marvin DuBois

    Thank you again. And yes, I should make a formal request.
    I might just mention that I've found something of a work-around. (This won't be news to you, but others in the same boat as myself might appreciate this.) Note that this works within a very specific context, so it is by no means a complete solution. But here goes.
    We run the Cp quizzes in an LMS (and that means, of course, a specific LMS). The solution works in this context. When making up a Cp quiz, I add a regular (non-question) slide after the score slide. On this slide I put a button that opens a webpage via a URL. And this URL is for the quiz itself--i.e. it is the LMS's address for the quiz. Thus, clicking the button simply restarts the quiz all over again, and this takes care of the randomization issues.
    This solution has two major drawbacks:
    1.The resume option has to be off.
    2.The Cp quiz itself cannot keep track of the attempts at doing the quiz (since with each new retake, the counting restarts at '1').
    I don't like having to do without the resume function. But in our particular case, the second issue isn't all that important. The LMS itself tracks the attempts at taking the quiz, so this information is always available both to quiz-takers and to administrators/teachers. (On the score slide itself, I simply remove the fields for the number of attempts.)
    At the moment, I'm trying to come up with a solution that would allow us to retain the resume function. So far, no luck, but we'll see.
    Best regards,
    Marvin DuBois

  • JS for randomizing tiered quiz questions?

    Alright noble edge users out there - I could really use your help:
    I am creating a quiz in edge with 10 levels - each level asks a question dealing with a particular topic for that level.  To make it more challenging/random, I want to allow each level's question to pull from a pool of 2-3 possible questions for that particular level (rather than one general pool for all 10 questions).
    I have created symbols out of each question - and played with a few randomizing options - but I am a tragically front-end designer
    Any help is greatly appreciate!

    A lot of that depends on how you've structured your game. Hopefully someone can add to this, but If you're wanting to stick mostly to coding from the timeline in edge animate, then you could do something like this:
    1) Insert a timeline label at the location of each question.
    2) Insert a timeline trigger at the beginning of your animation to create global array that contains the names of each timeline label for your questions. Something like this:
         window.possible_questions = ["Timeline Label 1","Timeline Label 1","Timeline Label 1","Timeline Label 1"];
    3) After you create the possibleQuestions array you can then send the user to the first random question by generating a random array index within the range of the remaining questions using something like this:
         //generate random index
         var random_index = Math.floor(Math.random() * possible_questions.length);
         //store the next question label
         var next_question = possible_questions[random_index];
         //remove the label from the array so we don't come back to it again
         possible_questions.splice(random_index, 1);
         //send the player to that label
         sym.stop(next_question);
    4) At each question, put something like this. If you want to detect the end of the game you can do that as well:
         if(possible_questions.length == 0){
              //game is done
              sym.stop("End of Game Timeline Label");
         }else{
              //we have more questions to ask
              //generate random index
              var random_index = Math.floor(Math.random() * possible_questions.length);
              //store the next question label
              var next_question = possible_questions[random_index];
              //remove the label from the array so we don't come back to it again
              possible_questions.splice(random_index, 1);
              //send the player to that label
              sym.stop(next_question);
