  • Backing up photos to external hard drive, and exporting back to CF card on camera

iPhoto 5 on Mac Power PC G4, OS 10.4.11
backing up photos to external hard drive (LaCie) My iPhoto Library contains a number of files (such as 'Library.iPhoto' 'iPhoto.db' 'ThumbJPG.data' etc) and a number of folders with dates such as 2005 etc, containing folders within folders, none of which with any contents.
Is there a way I can organise just the photos on their own so that I can select just those to be backed up on my LaCie hard drive, without all those distracting and (apparently) unnecessary extra files and folders ?
exporting edited photos back to CF card on camera I have tried everything I can think of to export photos from iPhoto back to the CF card on the camera, without success. It must be possible to do ?

Edit: Note: It's been a while but the Export command may be in the Share menu on older versions...
    1. To back up an iPhoto Library
    Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
    Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate
    2. To Back up Just the Photos
Use the File -> Export command to export the images to where you want them.
BTW: there are no user-serviceable parts in the iPhoto Library Folder. Rooting around in there can cause damage.
    3. Edited Photos to CF Card is a two part process:
Exporting is just File -> Export. Choosing any setting except 'Original' and you'll get the Edited version.
The CF Card? Just drag and drop there.
But a couple of possible problems: Canon Cameras don't show up in the Finder. So you'll need to stick the card into a USB Card Reader for get them on there
Camera Cards are all formatted FAT. That means there's a limit to the number of items on the top level of the card: Workaround: Export the shots to a folder and drag that over
And, of course, if you want to see the shots in the camera, you'll need to put them in whatever specific folder it uses for the photos.

  • How do I drag photo back to memory card from iPhoto?

I am trying very hard to export a photo in JPG format from iPhoto to my SDHC memory card reader, and when I do, my computer tells me that the two photos are on the memory card. However, when I put the memory card back into my digital camera, it says "No images." Is there any way to put photos back onto the memory card, or is that impossible to do? I've tried so many methods, including exporting the photos from iPhoto, dragging and dropping from iPhoto, and dragging and dropping from the Pictures folder itself, but nothing seems to be working. What the heck should I do?

The layout of a camera card is quite specific. The camera will only show you images if they are in the correct place, exactly where it expects them to be.
So, take a shot and see where it ends up on the card. The copy the images you want to see to that location.

  • I imported some pictures from my cameras memory card to iPhoto and now i want to transfer them back to memory card

I just got my iMac and I just wanted to copy some pictures from my camera's memory card to my computer. turns out 'importing pictures' meant totaly removing the pictures from my memory card. How can I transfer the pictures back to my memory card?
    More info:
I used Dynex Compact Memory Card Reader and put my memory card in it to connect to the usb plug
    I have a Canon Camera
    I am using iPhoto

    Hi.
FYI and future reference, importing pictures does not have to mean removing them from the memory card or camera.
When you plug in a memory card and open iPhoto to import your pictures, there will be a dialog box that opens and asks if you'd like to "Keep" the imported photos on the card, or delete them.
Apparently you selected the option to delete them.
In any case, in order to move them back to the card, you *should* be able to plug the card into your Dynex reader, after which the card should mount and display on the desktop. Then, open iPhoto and simply drag the photos from there and into the memory card.
You may need to recreate the file and folder structure on the card so the camera can find the files when you wish to view them.
    I hope this is helpful.

  • Need app. for recovering photos from a reformatted CF card.

Are there any other apps. for recovering photos from a reformatted CF card besides Lexars Image Rescue?

    Don:
I've used MediaRECOVER with great success.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Transfering photo's back into memory stick from iPhoto ?

I accidently deleted all my photo's on my memory stick from my camera. Is it possible to transfer photo's from my iphoto, that were already downloaded from my camera back onto the memory stick in my camera? Thanks

If the camera doesn't mount on the desktop as removable media you'll need to either use a card reader or iPhoto Copy Companion. However cameras have a certain folder structure and some data files so if you copy them back to the card I'm not sure they will be available thru the camera. You'd have to duplicate the numbering and folder system that the camera creates.

  • I updated to iOS7 and my deleted photos came back.  How do I make sure this doesn't happen again?

I updated to iOS7 and my deleted photos came back.  How do I make sure this doesn't happen again?  I want to get rid of the ones I already got rid of, but if they just keep coming back that will be a waste of time.
    Can anyone help?
When I sync with itunes, the photos sections says I am syncing with my iphone, so I assume that anything I physically delete from my iphone should not be showing up again.  Right?
    Thanks in advance.
    CM
    PS- I don't use iphoto.

Is that really how sync works?
If you read this, http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4236  and this http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314  they don't actually make how sync works very clear.  I had thought that syncing my device to itunes would allow I tunes to copy what was currently on my phone so that I could restore that information when needed ie if your phone dies and you need to do a clean install of the iOS system, you always have what is currently on your phone saved in Itunes.
    Specifically reading this:
To delete Camera Roll photos and videos from your device
There are two methods to delete items from the Camera Roll:
Import the Camera Roll to your computer and choose to delete items after import.
Delete photos and videos from your device manually:
Open the Photos application and open the Camera Roll.
    Tap the Action button.
Tap each photo to select it.
    Tap the Delete button.
Note: For photos and videos you want to save, import them to your computer before deleting them from the Camera Roll.
What you seem to be saying is that iTunes saves every contact, message, photo etc and when you click sync, it reuploads things that you deleted?  This seems like it should work the opposite.  Make a mirror image of my iPhone on my computer, not make a mirror image of my computer onto my iPhone.  You delete things for a reason.
Help- anyone else?  Is razmee209 right?

  • When trying to open iphoto I get the error message "You can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete." How do I fix this and get my photo's back?

When trying to open iphoto I get the error message "You can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete." How do I fix this and get my photo's back?

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • How to export photos from ipad to sd card

For some reason my ipad doesn't recongize readers attached.  Or maybe a better question is how do I know if ipad recognizes reader? How do I export photos from ipd to SD card?

You can only use the kit to copy photos from a card (or direct from a camera) to the iPad's Photos app, you can't use it to copy content off the iPad.
To copy photos to the iPad via the kit, then if you are copying the photos onto the card yourself from your computer then you will need to create a DCIM directory off the root of the card, with the photos underneath it, and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them
To copy photos taken with the iPad, copied to via the kit or saved from emails/websites etc from the iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083

  • Does family sharing mean all photos are backed up to one icloud account?

I am unclear what Family Sharing means.
Does family sharing mean all photos are backed up to one icloud account?  Or simply that we can all see each other's streams.  As it stands now, I understand we can share streams, without having family sharing enabled.  Basically, I want to know if we can be logged into separate icloud accounts yet share photo and document storage as we currently can with dropbox.
I want to share photo storage and file backup with my wife.  Currently, we both use her apple id to make store purchases and have our own icloud accounts.  This solves some problems, but I still have old itunes purchases(grant you fairly old at this point) that I cannot access when I am logged into her id.
I realize we could both use our own icloud account and upgrade storage individually, but this fails the economy test.  We have roughly 60 gb of family photo storage, so we would both need 200 gb plans.
we both have ipads and iphones.  i simply want us each to be able to take photos and have them automatically saved to one storage solution.
    Thanks in advance.
    Shalom

The only way you can see the contents of an iCloud backup is to restore it to an iOS device. You could restore it to your new phone -- but that would mean you would first have to erase your new phone so I wouldn't recommend it unless you have nothing of value on the new phone. In theory you could backup the new phone, erase it, restore from the old and see what is there and copy the photos to a computer and then erase it again and restore it back from the new phone backup. I would emphasize that is at your own risk as restoring from backups do not always go as advertised. More info: iCloud: Restore your iOS device from iCloud

  • My iMac doesn't recognise some photos on my Kingston camera card won't download on to my iMac

My iMac doesn't recognise some photos on my Kingston camera card but recigognises others. How can I get it to download the rest of my photos?

I'm using iPhoto. I have downloaded some off the same card but every now and then it refuses to recognise all of them. Can't figure out why as I perform the same action each time.

  • Back to school card is not working

Last week, I went to the apple store, Because my back to school card is not working.
And the clerk helped me to solve that the problem.
He said i will receive the mail from apple customer service.
From last week until today. I did not receive any mail from apple customer.
Can any one help me ??

I'm afraid you're asking in the wrong place. Apart from the fact that this is the forum for people who make podcasts, the entire discussions are user-to-user forums: you're not talking to Apple here, and no-one on here can help you. You will have to take this up with Apple directly.
If you go to the Apple Store page for your country you should see a phone number in the bottom right-hand corner: they may be able to help or at least tell you how to contact the people who can.

I have a new MacBook Pro with Iphoto installed when purchased.  When editing a photo, primarily orientation changes, the slideshow initially displays the photos in proper orientation.  However, after leaving Iphoto and shutting down the computer, and then going back to run a slideshow the photo displays back to its' original orientation, that is, the edit-change was not saved.  Please help...the program information says all edit-changes are automatically save and therefore there is no save command, but my changes are not being saved...thank you for any suggestions...HM

And to diversify the use of that port, you could get this specialized adapter:

The cost of admission is modest - at $79 - for what all that it does.
