Write to dvd

ok so iv finished my film and need to put it on to dvd but cant , i have looked at the help menu and i need iDVD but cant download a copy from the app store can any one help

Hi
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
• iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
better is iLife'09 as You then get all themes - even the old ones (I only use them) - and it's the same iDVD - You only need to run Program Up-date to get it to same as in iLife'11.
• DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
• Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
• Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
• FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.

  • Importing from a camcorder that writes to DVDs

    Hello,
I'm trying to import from a Sony Handycam that writes to DVD and not mini DV tapes. Plus I only have a USB cable to connect to my computer. Is there any way to make this work without mini DV tapes or firewire??
    Thanks

    Hi
Does Your Camera have FireWire out then this is the easiest way - but if it works with a DVD Camera
    is another thing. Doubting.
    A. don't put a mini DVD into Your iMac or iBook or PowerBook. You need a trayloaded DVD to do this.

  • Satellite M45 DVD-RAM writer using DVD+R DL

I am not able to write on DVD+R DL. No problem with DVD+R. Did not use DVD+R DL until now.
Is this a known problem? Is there a firmware upgrade?
    Help will be appriciated.

    >This problem commenced when I upgraded my machine to windows 8.
Why you did not mention this early that this happened after Windows 8 installation?
This theme was already solved here in the forum… would really recommend using the Advanced Search option here in the forum to find similar thread. Its really not necessary to create duplicate themes…
    However, check this:

  • Unable to read/write CDs/DVDs

I have a Sony DVD RW DW-U10A combo drive. I have been unable to write CDs for a few weeks now, but manage with my MacBook. Now however, the drive in the iMac doesn't see either blank or written CDs, or professionally produced CDs. This also applies to all DVDs.
The only, but major, change that I have made is to upgrade to Tiger. I cannot categorically link the problem with the upgrade.
Could this be the cause of the problem? What can I do to be able to read/write CDs while using Tiger?
How can I clean the CD lense if that is also contributing to the problem?
    Thanks in advance

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You really need to repost over in the MacBook forums. The hardware is very different.

  • Best way to write entire DVD-R?

It's come to my attention that certain set top DVD players (Phillips in particular) won't play recordable media with a small amount of information written to the disc. But if you burn more than 4GB to the disc, the player reads the disc just fine. I'm working with a 15-minute program, so I'm obviously not near the 4GB. I'm interested in maximizing functionality and playability on all machines, so I'm wondering if there's a way within DVDSP, Disk Utility or Toast to write the entire disc. I've tested this by inserting video tracks that the user cannot reach from the menus, but the user could easily use the 'chapter forward' function and get lost in the dummy tracks. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Yes, TY media are good, but Memorex? This forum is littered with references to the coasters that they make.
The media in question here are TY, Verbatim and some leftover Apple brand discs from the old days. DVD-R manufacturer definitely has nothing to do with this. It's definitely an idiosyncrasy of the Phillips player in question. I've never had it happen with any of the other dozen or so players we have around here.
We maintain many different brands of DVD player in our studios to be able to simulate any situation our products may find themselves in. Our goal is to be able to reach the largest audience possible for our clients, no matter their technological limitations. That is not always easy or even possible, given the amount of old, poor, and poorly maintained computers and DVD players out there. But we try to reach as many as possible. As tempting as it might be to always blame the user's equipment, we have to try to find novel ways of making every project as accessible as possible.
I'll mark this question as answered, because I've discovered that there is no way to write to the edge of a DVD-R without the requisite amount of QT tracks within the DVDSP project. If anyone ever has any other ideas, please offer them. Thanks to all for contributing.

  • Mac Mini unable to write to DVD-Rs

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help. I am trying to write to a DVD-R (I have tried several makes) but the drive does not seem to recognise the disk and spits it out. I am able to write to CD-R & CD-RW but no luck with DVD-Rs.
Super drive is MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846 and the "more information" panel states that it should have the following capabilities:
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
Only other thing I can think of that may, or may not, be relevant is that my kids managed to lock the region to USA rather than my native UK. The drive does recognise my DVD copy of iLife 08.
    Any help appreciated
    Shakey

If you have tried several different brands of DVDs and none worked, there are only 2 possibilities: the problem is in the OS or the hardware. Given the drive in your machine I'd say it is hardware.

  • How can I write dual DVDs with my UJ 820S DVD burner?

hello i own a satellite notebook, and my problem is that it cannot write at dual dvds, i believe that i have to upgrade the firmware but i cant find anything, recently i had the same problem with my desktop pc and solve it when i upgrade the firmware from its own nec dvd burner, anybody knows where i can find a firmware update, or something else to solve my problem?

    Hi Chris
The CD and DVD burning and reading with different drives is a never ending story.
I use an external burner and believe me; I have tested more than 10 different medias from different manufactures.
I could burn some medias but not read and read but not burn :(
I think you should also test different DVDs.
In my user manual I have found a list with compatible CD and DVD. Possibly you will also find the same supported media list in you preinstalled user manual.

  • Can my SONY DVD RW DW-Q28A write HD DVD content?

I am trying to figure out if the Sony DVD drive/burner in my 2.7 Ghz DP G5 will write HD content with DVD Studio Pro. If so, what media is allowable. Drive model is: SONY DVD RW DW-Q28A. Any help would be appreciated.

Assuming you have DVDSP version 4.0.3 or higher, you can create HD DVDs on regular DVD-R or DVD+R discs. However, there are a few things to keep in mind:
    1) In DVDSP, you'll need to set your HD DVD disc up as red laser.
    2) The red laser discs you create will not meet the official HD DVD spec for red laser discs, and as such, may not play in some HD DVD players. You should be able to play them fine using Apple's DVD Player using version 4.6.5 or later.
    3) These discs will not play at all in a standard definition DVD player.
The DVDSP 4.1 manual, on page 20, states:
"In addition to blue laser based DVD media, an HD project’s DVD video zone can be written to DVD media based on the red lasers used by traditional DVDs. (The obvious limitation is that you will not be able to fit as much video data on the disc.)
Important: SD-based DVD players are not able to play DVD projects containing HD content, whether they are on red or blue laser media. Additionally, only HD projects on special 3x DVD-ROM red laser media are officially supported in the HD DVD specification. You can burn HD projects to traditional red laser media on your system; however, the discs might not play in all HD DVD players."

  • Satellite M30-861: why can i not write to DVD?

Hi I bought Satellite M30-861 about 15 months ago and until now have only tried to burn CDs - no problem. Now I want to try to burn onto a DVD but it doesnt seem to be recognised (I tried drag n drop and also NERO). I can see on the drive unit that it says DVD R/RW and according to my warranty info on Toshiba website I should be able to burn DVDs (this was a question I asked when buying!). Any ideas what I am doing wrong??!
    Thanks!
    Marving

    Hi Marvin,
According to the specifications for your notebook you should be able to burn DVD-R/RW only. Are you sure that you are using the correct media ( -R/RW and not +r/rw).
Also if you are using RW media then these will need to be formatted before you can burn to them. (you can use Nero INCD to do this).

  • Adobe cs4 version..I am not recording in HD when sending to write on DVD

When I start a project, I make sure to set the download to 1080i and when I send to Encore to record to a DVD, it is not writing in HD. What am I doing wrong.
Thanks for you help if you have any.

As Todd states, DVD will always be SD. For HD, you need to create a BD (Blu-ray Disc) Project in Encore, and burn to BD.
Now, one can produce short HD to DVD-Video, if that is what you want, but it is not quite so direct a route.
Let us know exactly what you wish to do, and someone can step you through the process.
    Good luck,

  • PRE8 "Blue Screens" attempting to write to DVD

A freind of mine has asked that I put his "trip to China" on DVD. This consists of many AVI files, which I imported into PRE8. The total length of the video is one hour and thirty-two minutes, the biggest project I have ever worked on. Okay, so I set it up for DVD format with the start, stop, and scene markers. The Preview plays without problem. When I attempt to burn it to DVD, I immediately get the "blue screen of death." Ouch!  PRE8 won't even allow me to "burn" this project to my hard drive. My computer specs are below. Is this project just to large to be handled by PRE8? Oh, and yes, I set up System Configuration to run the utmost least in programs and TSR's after reboot. Thanks for any input!!
    Jeff
    Dell Inspiron 530s
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit version)
Processor: 2.33 gigahertz Intel Core2 Duo
    64 kilobyte primary memory cache
    4096 kilobyte secondary memory cache
    Memory: 4GB
    Hard drive capacity: 640 GB
Display adaptor: ATI Radeon HD 2400 (with current drivers)
    Realtek High Definition Audio

A Blue Screen of Death in Windows 7 is a sign of serious problems with your operating system. It's not unheard of -- but very rare. And it likely has nothing to do with Premiere Elements.
My books offer a number of solutions and optimized workflows.
First, go to the Dell web site, look up your computer model and download all of Dell's updates. Even if your computer is brand new, you'll likely find several!
Then manually go to Windows Update and download even the non-critical updates. And go to Apple.com and download the latest version of Quicktime.
You'll probably also want to go to the ATI web site and download the latest firmware for that graphics card and go to http://www.realtek.com.tw and download the latest version of those RealTek HD Audio Drivers.
There are also some tune-ups you should do, including removing .tmp files and defragmenting your hard drives -- but that's up to you.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/390602?tstart=30
Once you've stabilized your system, you can start working on your specific issues.
I'd start by trying to burn your DVD files to a folder on your hard drive rather directly to a disc. That can tell you if the main problem is your disc burner. (And, with a 64-bit operating system, it may be.)
If that doesn't work, you can start troubleshooting your project.

  • CD/DVD-drive does not read/write properly

I can not write any dvds or cds because every time a message pops up with an error.
I tried different burning programs with different cd manufacturers and it still does not seem to be a problem on other computers having the same program and using same cds or dvds.
Another thing is that it can not read dvds all the time; same dvd can work once but not again and whenever i try to open a normal cd-r it says blank disc even when they work perfectly on other computers?
    can anyone plz help

hey ..ok im on a toshiba laptop SA50-543 usind windows XP home edition..the dvd/cd thing is built in and is a DVD rewritabl CD rewritable multiple recorder.
as for the programs i used for burning..i tried nero, sonic record now and the one im on now is roxio easy media creator
as for the error msg it says:
there was a problem writing to the disc.you can try again by clicking the retry button.you will need another blank disc ready.
    further info:
    Recording error
Recording errors can occur when a disc contains dirt, fingerprints, or scratches.
If you are getting recording errors:
    Try using a new disc.
Try using a different manufacturer??s disc.
Ensure the disc is clean before recording:
Remove all fingerprints, dirt, and dust from the shiny side of your disc using a nonabrasive cloth with a mild, nonabrasive soap solution.
Wipe the disc from the center to the edge.
    Dry the disc completely.
tried doing all of that and still not recording..and anyway if it was aproblem with the cds why would they work fine on other laptops?
i dont know which other info you need so let me know if theres anything else
Oh yeah, theres an advanced explanation for the recording error but its all in numbers do you need to know that?
    thx

  • Write Kestone to DVD

OK, here's the problem. I produced my first 40 minute long presentation of still pictures, mixed with six short movie clips. There is a soundtrack running in sync with the pictures, going to mute when the movies run. I finished the presentation and copied the entire show to DVD, but it won't play on a DVD player for TV. So, I asked the local Apple store for advice and they said Export it to QuickTime and then to iDVD. So, I tried that but everytime it got to the movie clip, it Quit. So, I tried changing the slide and transition time. This time, it took ages to start converting and when it got to the movie it copied the entire movie and not just the clip.
SO I have a dilemma, I'm needing to write a DVD of the program so I can play on any computer - even if it doesn't have KeyStone. Also, I want to write a version to DVD to play on TV. Also, I want to play this in England which requires a Region 2 DVD write.
Can anyone help me through this mire? I'm leaving for England tomorrow and need to get the DVD transferred tonight.
    HELP!!!

    OK.
I tried that but everytime it got to the movie clip, it Quit.
Do you mean Keynote quits or iDVD quits?
I want to play this in England which requires a Region 2 DVD write.
Burned DVDs are regionless, so a DVD you burn with iDVD or any other tool should play on any player that can handle a burned DVD, regardless of region. You will, though (unless I'm badly mistaken) have to create the DVD as a PAL project, not NTSC, to play in the UK.
