Writing a Java-enabled Media Player

Hello out there,
it's me, I was the one to put so much effort in writing a full-fletched Java Media Player that was hopefully gonna be able to compete with Winamp or Windows Media Player one day. Some of you might remember, it was Polytox Jazz, certainly a beautiful piece of software that was meant to take User Interface to a new level even Apple hasn't come up with yet. It would still be state of the art even today. But the Sun staff let me down back then. I kept on writing and writing and filing bugs, but the JMF staff weren't able to sort things out, not even the most simple things. Did I write: Listen, with plain uncompressed wave files, all is well, but as soon as I use MP3 files, I am not even able to get a peak level in sync. So, how the heck should I ever implement an equalizer? (DSP programming is known here, have read all the important books.) No answer from Sun. I was really disappointed then and dropped all the stuff forever. I'm not gonna try it again, but this is my question: Is there any cool Java Media Player around? Has anybody had any more success than me? When I started to work with JMF, around 2001, it wasn't more than a preliminary hack of freaks that didn't really know what they were doing.
Best
Philip

Hi Philip, Please I want to run/actuate my cell/mobile phone front view camera (that is real life only run/actuates on video calls) through Java media/player control function and developing and importing an API. Please help me to find an appropriate trick to do so.
Please I wrote a Java Program that is successfully working for its back view camera (main camera). I tried my best to modify this program to run/actuate my front view camera, despite lots of efforts, still not successful. Please if U email me at '[email protected]' I can send U this code and successfully working jar file or can bring the source code at the forum for modification. Please help me.

  • Can't download plug in for windows media player. Have used download site and it says it worked, but plug in is not showing up on my list of plug ins.

I tried to hear a conference call on a website. Got a message, needed windows media plug in. Checked my plug ins, no windows media. Read tutorial on firefox support. Clicked on download. Got a window that asked for repair or change. Tried repair, then change. Need better directions on how to finish download. Got message download successful, but after closing firefox and reopening, still no plug in for windows media in list of plug ins. Went to site and could not hear conference.
Read support forum. Message about using about:config. Tried this, typed in about: config in start menu, but didn't see anything that looked like I could change to true like message said.
solved by opening internet explorer and going to website and listening to conference call on windows media player. There was a message saying click here if you want to enable media player. Did so, heard conference.
Tried using chrome. Got to hear conference yesterday. Today, there was same message about needing plug in when I tried to follow instructions to get plug in, it was as confusing and useless as firefox. The bottom line is I tried to do everything set forth in firefox's forum suggestions and can't get the windown media plug in to show up in my list of plug ins and can't hear conference calls on firefox.
Chrome did say they were working on getting plug in available at chrome store.
I agree with comments that I was able to go to web sites and hear calls before firefox made an update that removed my windows media plug in. The simple download fix, presumeably from windows, does not work, apparently because firefox can't find the fix. That is not the user's fault, and it looks like windows tried to provide a fix, and firefox won't recognize it.
Bottom line, it is easier to use another browser, than try and get the windows media player plug in installed on firefox. What good is a browser, if you can't hear a call on the website that the browser takes you to? Please make it easy to install the windows media plug in on firefox. Thank you..

Firefox can find plugins in several locations, but Firefox 21 changed the location of the "shared" plugin folder so older installers like the Microsoft Windows Media Plugin no longer drop the DLL file in the correct location.
There apparently are two ways to address this:
    (1) Change a Firefox preference so that Firefox checks the old location. Here's how:
    (i) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(ii) In the filter box, type or paste '''plugins''' and pause while the list is filtered
(iii) Double-click '''plugins.load_appdir_plugins''' to switch its value from false to true.
This will take effect after you restart Firefox.
    (2) Copy the plugins folder to the new location. Here's how on Win 7 64-bit:
Open a Windows Explorer window to:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
Right-click and copy the '''Plugins''' folder
Double-click the '''browser''' folder to open it
    Right-click and paste
Right-click the new copy of '''Plugins''' and rename it to '''plugins'''
After restarting Firefox, the plugins in that folder should now be available.
''Edit: I suggest just doing #1.''

  • Windows Media Player keeps stopping

    Hi,
I probably am in the wrong forum for this so, if someone can first move this to the appropriate forum, I'd be pleased.
Anyways, my Windows Media Player constantly stops whenever I play a movie through the CD Rom Drive and I'd like this issue resolved. I haven't uploaded or installed any files that would cause this problem. I believe I have Windows Media Player 11 (my laptop
is a Windows Vista if that helps). How do I permanently prevent it from stopping whenever I play a DVD on my laptop? Thanks.

    Hi,
I suggest you run the Media Player Settings
    troubleshooter and check.
Open the Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Windows-Media-Player-Settings-troubleshooter
    Please login with
    Clean Boot
to see if the same issue occurs.
    If the issue persists,
1: Run System File Checker (SFC) scan.
SFC scan will make Windows replace corrupt or missing system files on your computer.
    a. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.
    b. Click Continue or supply Administrator credentials if prompted.
    c. In the Command Prompt window type the following, and press Enter:
    sfc /scannow
Step 2:  Disable and re-enable Media Player.
    a. Click on start and then go to Control panel.
    b. Now click on programs and features.
    c. Then click on “Turn Windows features on or off”.
    d. Expand Media features.
    e. Uncheck Media Player.
    f. Restart the computer.
To re-enable Media Player, follow the same steps and place a check mark next to Media Player in Windows features and restart the computer.
    Hope that helps.

  • Firefox 6.0 w/ win media player plugin 1.0.0.8 enabled ALWAYS asks if I want to open a .wmv file with Win Media Player.

Firefox 6.0 would not open .wmv files, so I downloaded and installed M/S windows media player firefox plugin, ver 1.0.0.8.
I have checked using the plugin mgr that it is installed and enabled, but firefox still will not open .wmv files - It still brings up a window asking if I want to use Win Media Player to open the file.

  • Cannot Play .DAT Movie Files in Real Player/Java Media Player

    Hi,
I wanted to play some movie files in Solaris 10 (Was curious if the movie might be rendered more crisply in Solaris than Windows :) ) but found that .DAT files are not played in Java Media Player.
So I downloaded the Real Player for Solaris 10 x86 (The bin file which is a self executable installer). Now Real Player plays mp3 songs without a problem, just like Java Media Player, but it does not play any movies with a .DAT extension.
I thought may be I need to download a small patch and hence googled a bit, but could not find anything. So googled again to find if there was some work around, but could not come up with anything.
Has someone faced a similar problem? If anyone could help me with this, I would be really thankful.
P.S: I have boasted to my friends how good Solaris 10 is and if I get the .DAT movies working in Solaris 10, they will surely think of getting it installed on their comps cause it pretty much does everything else !!

That application is in the Applications -> Utilities Folder.
Change the popup menu under "Properties for" to Apple logo Built-in Output. And change the Source to Internal Speakers, and format to 44100.0 Hz with the downward pointing triangle next to the Hz rating.

Will there be/Is there a download of any of the above mentioned programs for the iPhone?

Apple hasnt made any official announcements. There are a lot of rumors floating around the internet. You can Google for "iPhone updates" or "iPhone rumors" and entertain yourself for a couple of hours reading some interesting (and some ridiculous) stuff.
With the iPod function being the primary media player on the iPhone, I seriously doubt there is room for any other media player. And until Apple makes an announcement, we have very little (if anything) to go on.

does anyone know a better platform to use for making a media player other than JMF?

yes, actually, you can. There is a way to insert a thing (I forget the correct term) in the chain that the A/V content flows thru which could be used to do visualizations.
There is a JMF forum, though, which you'd be better served posting there. I don't think that JMF is as well used as some other things, but the people that really use it should be lurking in that forum.
