Writing email and the computer starts deleting?!?
Today I was writing an email and in the middle of a sentence my curser starts running backwards as if the delete key was pressed. I had written quite a bit and desperately tried to copy the text before it deleted it all but wasn't fast enough. My keyboard is clean and the delete key shows no sign of sticking. I have a wireless keyboard connected but it wasn't being used and sitting next to me with nothing on top of it.
This morning my software update installed a Mountain Lion update including a mail update.
Does anybody have any idea how something like this would happen? It was really unsettling and a bit scary to think it could happen while in the middle of a project.

You can try disabling emoticons and image previews in your IM appearance settings in your Skype options to see if that changes anything. Some people running Windows XP have had odd graphical and resource issues with versions of Skype above 7.5. The alternative solution would be to downgrade to Skype 7.5 for the time being. when I start my macbook it shows STARTUP DISK FULL, and I cannot do anything else, it doesnt let me get into the computer to delete any programs,,,, What should I do ?
Try starting in Safe mode which does not load all the software that is used in a regular boot. It also runs a disk check. After booting in safe mode transfer or trash stuff you don't really need so as to free up disk space. Be sure to hold the shift key down continously till a progress bar shows on the screen.

while in email today, the computer began flashing. I had to turn off with button. When I turned it back on, I got the apple icon and the moving loading wheel. It would turn for about 60 seconds and then stop. I turned off again. I now have a black screen.

HELP! I just downloaded pics from my Canon 7D to i photo. I was near the end of editing and the computer froze (started spinning). I forced a restart and went I got back to iPhoto all my work was gone. Any suggestions?
a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card -- I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos
Try Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database

if they were being synced from an email adress and they were deleted from there, i dont think its possible...
you could try a recent backup, but i doubt it will bring them back because they were being synced from an email -
I have an older macbook pro and the hard drive is starting to go (making loud noises). i tried to back up to an external hard drive (my passport essential se) using time machine and the computer keeps shutting down. the same thing happens when just trying to save my pictures from iphoto to a flash drive. suggestions to complete backup please?
Sounds like you'll need to access that drive while it is not booted. You need to replace it anyway, so do that, then one way or another (ext enclusure, et), access it and copy files.
If you keep trying to boot it, you might kill it for good and not get your files, so just swap it out first. -
PLEASE help!! I use Outlook for my email and the Mail App Icon that is in my dock, that I know nothing about, was also storing all my emails. So, I tried to delete ONLY the emails in the Mail App but somehow (under Preferences maybe?) I also deleted ALL my OUTLOOK emails in my inbox. Can someone please please tell me if there is a way to get my Outlook inbox emails back OR EVEN the emails that were in my Mail app - because even tho I never use the Mail app, at least the emails would be there.
When I was trying to delete the emails in my inbox for the Mail app - I followed THESE directions. It did in fact clear my inbox for the Mail app. But then I went to log on to my Outlook account and EVERY SINGLE EMAIL was gone. And not in the Deleted box. Just gone. Here are the directions I followed that screwed everything up. Please help.
Top menu bar, Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors.
Uncheck "Store deleted messages on the server".
At the drop list for "Permanently erase deleted messages when", choose "Quitting Mail".
Next...
Top menu bar, Mail > Preferences > General.
At "When searching all mailboxes, include results from", uncheck "Trash".
Select All = command Ai found out my prob!
here is what you do.
go to the "system preferences" on your dock.
click "software updates".
click "installed software"
if it shows something about a recent update about "EFI UPDATE, FIRMWARE, THUNDERBOLT" or anything like that, exit out of it.
go to mail.
click "mail" at the top.
click "preferences...".
find the account you are having trouble with, once you do, make sure its highlighted, then click the "-" at the bottom of the window (this will only effect that mail account, it will not effect your ical weather or not its synced thought that email account)
hit the "+" (right next to the "-") and add your accout back!

I am unable to see any POP3 or IMAP tab when I set up an account in my iphone 4S. Hence by default all my email accounts become IMAP and the messages are deleted from the server when I delete them from the iphone.
ok sorry everyone but i solved it myself but the solution is so nuts i've posted it here to help others who have the same problem.
to setup a comcast imap account on your iphone:
go to mail, contacts, etc in settings
under accts, select add account
select "other"
new screen, choose "add mail account"
now on the new acct screen you must enter your name, email address and password for your GMAIL acct ! (yes i said your gmail acct !, or some other acct with a NON comcast address).
hit next
then the acct verifies
when verified a screen will open with all the acct settings for this acct AND @ the top of the screen are the 2 buttons > imap or POP
select imap and THEN CHANGE ALL THE ACCOUNT information to the comcast account !
then hit next and the account will take a couple minutes to verify but it will verify and now you have a comcast imap acct set up on your iphone. The problem must be that when the iphone sends the initial verify acct info to comcast (if you enter that information first) the comcast server is simply not setup yet to signal the iphone that there is an imap option. -

I have tried everything and nothing works. When the computer starts it makes weird sounds and also when I try to eject it. Nothing Works! Please Help.
I had that happen with a MacBook. It turned out that the metal case above the slot was slightly bent down.
Putting a flat blade screwdriver in the slot and gently twisting it to move the metal case up allowed it to eject. Don't put it in too far you only want to bend the case not the drive.
The case can get bent down by picking it up with your thumb pressing down on the case above the slot. -
I just upgraded to Snow Leopard then Lion and the computer shut down after installation.
Now when it starts up it gets as far as the apple icon and then shuts down again
whenever I turn it on it loads that far and then closes.
HELP!Restore your bootable backup/clone or Time Machine backup of Snow Leopard, launch Disk Utility from the install disc, repair the boot volume, and reinstall Lion.
