Writing master's thesis..........why not Oracle!?

Hi all.
I'm an ordinary Oracle learner.
What you think of writing master's thesis on one of the newest Oracle features?

Hi,
What you think of writing master's thesis on one of the newest Oracle features?I have a hard time believing that your professor would accept this topic as legitimate masters-level academic research.
Usually, reviews of commercial products are not considered academically justifiable.
Hope this helps. . .

  • Why to use chnage  pointers for  master data idoc why not  the  change idoc

    Hi Gurus,
I have  one doubt about  Idoc.
When changes to master  data has to be sent Change pointers are configured and  used. (CDPOS & CDHDR). In case of  the  transaction data change change idoc  is  used as is the case with orders (we  use ORDCHG for  ORDERS message type to send  the  chnage details to a  order which was already sent to other system.
Why we can't use  change  idoc or  message type whatever, instead of  Chnage pointers in case of  master data or  vice versa in case  of transaction data.
Your valuable  input  will be rewarded with suitable  points!!
    -B S B.

    Hi,
It was a good question ... SAP seems never designed the change pointer to handle transactional data IDocs. Only for master data IDocs distribution purposes.
It may due to volume data ... the transactional data can change many times within a day compare with master data which hardly change or once a while.

  • Why not we lock these schemas instead of change the password

The documentation mentioned that the following schemas belong to individual APPS base products. By default the password is the same as the SCHEMA name. Changing the password for these schemas does not affect any configuration files.

If not affect any configuration files, why not we lock these schemas instead of change the password.

These are the Schemas Shipped with E-Business Suite.
    In oracle EBS there is lot of inter dependency present between all schemas. For dependency pls check following link;

  • Why are these Webservices not supported in VC ?

    Hi all,
I am using NW04s SP9, and I plan to make MDM-Application with VC.
Therefore I introduced MDM-WebService into NW and defined it on VC.
but "searchRecords" of "MDMSearchRecords" was displayed with "Not supported"
    in the right frame .
    Mmm...
So I decided to think from a beginning.
I defined above it on VC and I used "Getholidaydate" .
    Good! .
However,,, "Getholidaysforyear" was also "Not supported".
Why are these methods "Not supported" ? .
and how will come to be usable these methods in VC? .
    Thanx in advance.

  • Why are these words not acceptable?

Following up from another question regarding the frustrating password validation, you answered back that these following words were not acceptable in one's password:
    1234
    4321
    qwert
    test
    skype
    myspace
    password
    abc123
    123abc
    abcdef
    iloveyou
    letmein
    ebay
    paypal
I understand that it'd be a problem if someone used one of those alone without any prefix or suffix with it, but WHY are you blocking it altogether? Why not allow it at least in middle of a cryptic word, like !@#$skype**&& , or ()()skype<><> ?
It seems your password validation rules just check for an occurance of those words (some of which are questionable as to why it's blocked in the first place) anywhere in the string.
Why are you making it hard for your users to come up with a password they can remember?Pretty much every other services (gmail, facebook, twitter, etc.) are equally as important and used (if not more important/used than Skype, on a daily basis) and don't enforce as much password rules and blocked words.
It would be nice to see Skype go in the direction of 2-step verification like Gmail has.
Use a simple password, bind a Cell-Phone number to it, get your temporary code via txt-message (if it's your first time on that computer / non-cached in browser), Simple!

Well I figure with the price we have to pay for these things they should be a little more sturdy. As high-tech as Apple is there has got to be something they could do to make them more durable. More than half the people I know have cracked screens guess they just don't bother to complain about them...What's the point anyway!
This is the problem with extrapolating personal experience to generalized statements about a product that has been sold in the many millions in dozens of countries around the world.  I have several family members, many friends and most of my co-workers have been given iPhone 4's and 4s's as their work phone, and not one of those people that I know with iPhone 4/4s phones has ever had a front nor back screen break.  So from my perspective, you and your friends are the extreme few, the complete opposite of your perspective.

  • Why the scan lister and listener configure/start from GRID home why not from Oracle Home.

    Hi
why the scan lister and listener configure/start from GRID home why not from Oracle Home.

    > why the scan lister and listener configure/start from GRID home why not from Oracle Home.
Because Oracle says that's the way it has to be.
As @MohaAGOU said, starting in 11gR2, the Listeners (both SCAN and traditional) are now cluster resources. Let's start with the SCAN Listener. There are only 3 of them, even if you have 4 or more nodes in the cluster. If a node goes down and a SCAN Listener were running on it, Grid Infrastructure will relocate the SCAN Listener to a surviving node. Much easier to do this if the entire resource were in the GI home. Note that an instance cannot be relocated and it is running on a different home.
As for the traditional listener. The Listener itself won't be relocated during a node termination, but its VIP will.

  • WHY do these discussions not

Why do these discussions not show # of views and replies anymore? I mean, why remove that info from the page?
And why make the discussions overall less functional and rather icky..?
    WHY WHY WHY?

I can't even EDIT my question which i just posted above.
And the discussions are MUCH slower now on my computer. Very difficult to use. (Is this by design perhaps..?)
And when I try to "Reply"--i get an error message in a pink box saying
"An error occurred while trying to submit your post. Please try again."
That would be an error by the Apple programmers, i guess. At least i can go to the "advanced editor" (a small, grey link in the corner) and submit the reply, but that in itself is absurd. And the "Advanced" editor forces a text box width of nearly 1024, meaning it MUST go off my screen on one side. Pathetic. This is stuff that programmers figured out how to avoid in the 1970s. Hello, Apple.

  • HT3231 why do all these pages not tell you where migration assistant is on a mac pro. they all say what to do when you have it however this is of no use if you are unable to find.

why do all these pages not tell you where migration assistant is on a mac pro.  They all say what to do when it is on however this is of no use if you are unable to find it in the first place.

In the Utilities folder, which is in Applications. You could also use Spotlight to search for it.

  • Why wait() is there in Object class why not in Thread class

why wait() is there in Object class why not in Thread class .
while we use wait() in the case of thread environment?
If there is any situation where we use it without using threads please mention with example. or link to that example..

The question still remain un-answered as the answers provided are not clear. Can anybody explain why wait(), notify() methods are available in Object class and not thread? What part of the answers given did you not understand?
Have you even tried writing any code that uses wait/notify and thought about how you'd write the same code if they existed only on Thread rather than on Object?
Have you studied the basics of Java's multithreading?
Do you know what a lock is?
Do you know what the synchronized keyword does?
Do you understand the relationship between synchronized and wait/notify?
If you can answer yes to these questions, then the reason that wait/notify exist on Object should be obvious. So, which of the above are "no"?

  • Why not index every field in a database

    Hello,
I hope this is not to much of a newbie question. We have a database that is being used by an application. We do not know which fields are queried on, the application allows for any/all field(s) to be searched on.
Obviously, we can know which fields a particular method is searching on, but there is no requirement for the application developers to keep us up to date on particular query parameters as they add them.
This is a 10g, soon to be 11g, database. Most of the fields are integer with less than 2 digits.
My question is, why not simply index every field, or at least every small integer field?
    Thanks,
    Sammer

    Thanks,
SammerIn addition to the unnecessary overhead, there are other considerations that affect whether Oracle will use an index. Just because it is there doesn't mean it will or should be used.
    Think about this:
You have a table with a particular field, and an index on that field. You want to add up all the values of that field. Do you think it would be faster for oracle to just read all of those rows in the table and add them up, all of the rows in the index and add them up, or read the index, go find the row in the table, read the index, get another random row in the table...
Now, what if Oracle can read more data at a time if it is getting all the data?
What if you don't want the data from every row in the table? Are you going to create an index for every combination of columns?
What if Oracle stores two digit integers no differently than 4 digit?
What if 99.99% of the values are 0? 100%?
How does Oracle decide the best way to get the data?
These are all questions you can look up online. I would strongly suggest starting with the Oracle Concepts manual for the soon to be version. Once you have done that, you may see you don't have to apologize about newbie questions as long as people see you are willing to put some work into letting them help you.
Some people claim there is no such thing as a stupid question. I think that is just pabulum to keep people from being scared to ask questions when they ought to. The stupid question is the one you ought to have known better before you asked. So your question wasn't a stupid question, but any others you ask now that you know about documentation and online searching may very well be.

  • Open source /  Commercial version, it's up to you! Why not for ESB products

Please comment this forum and help us to get Sun's support for Open ESB as we can get it for open-Solaris or Glassfish.
    Thanks

    Jonathan Schwartz new policy
Few years ago, Jonathan Schwartz replaced Scott McNealy as SUN Microsystems CEO. Swartz's first decision was to convert Sun into an Open-Source company. Consequently, Solaris OS, Application Servers and even the Java language were opened and their sources published. At present, Sun is viewed as a major Open Source actor.
Suns new sales philosophy proposes, on one hand, its best products in an open-source format and on the other hand, commercial support and hardware. The best examples of this new philosophy are Open-Solaris and Glassfish. You can download these products, use them and test them. After you have built applications with these tools and wish to move into a production environment, you can buy support from Sun.
Open source or Commercial version, it's up to you!
Alternatively, you can as well buy commercial versions at the first place. Even if open sources and commercial versions are slightly different than the open-source ones, more than 95% of their code is originated from the same development branch. Example : SUN proposes its queue messaging system with two similar versions, respectively named SUN QM and "Open-MQ". The only difference is the amount you pay for the technical support.
Everyone can find advantages in this sales policy on Sun products: companies and developers try and develop for free and can rely on Sun support in production. As a matter of fact, Sun uses these free products as Trojan horses to conquer new market shares, penetrate new companies and sell Sun hardware.
Why not for ESB Products ?
Unfortunately, there is a small issue in this picture: Sun's ESB platform is the exception in this sales policy. In Fact, Sun proposes two different tools for ESB developments. The first product. "JCAPS", is a commercial product inherited from Seebeyond. The second product, "Open-ESB" is based on JBI specifications (JSR 208) and was developed from scratch about 2 years ago.
Alas, JCAPs and Open-ESB are definitely two different products.
    JCAPS ignores JBI specifications
JCAPS connectors are based on JCA specifications and not on JBI.
Open-ESB development process is based on Web services specifications, JCAPS not.
JCAPS and Open-ESB developments are not compatible.
Hundreds other differences can be found between the two products.
We can understand that for a while, for technical, marketing or business reasons, a company supports more than one product lines with the same functionalities. IBM does it and Oracle buying BEA will do it also.
However, there are several things that Pymma would like to understand:
Why the download of JCAPS is only available for authorized JCAPS Partner ?
Why SUN does not provide support for open-ESB as it does for Glassfish, Open Solaris or Open MQ ?
Why JBI or Open-ESB are never mentioned at most ESB seminars organized by Sun Centres in the UK ?
Why Sun marketing, Gurus or consultants are prolix about JBI in the public lectures and technical forums, and at the same ignore Open-ESB when they advice companies ?
Is the policy of Jonathan Swartz policy only applicable for Java Legacy applications (Application Server, Message queuing)? not for ESB tools ?
Of course, we already asked these questions to SUN but we never got clear answers.
    Thanks for clarifying Sun's position
Many companies believe in JBI and their developers spend time and energy working on Open-ESB . These companies would certainly be interested to hear Sun's explanations on the above questions. They probably want to be sure that Open-ESB will not be just a prototype for the new JCAP version (only reserved for SUN JCAPS Partners). They certainly want to be credible by proposing SUN's professional support on Open-ESB as they do for Glassfish and Open-Solaris. After, they only need from SUN to clarify its position and give a clear prospective for the future of JBI and Open-ESB. We hope that through this blog Sun will hear us and we will give us clear answers.

    Hi Leonie,
My iPhoto is iPhoto 11, version 9.4.2.  I believe my Aperture is the latest version but I don't know how to verify that when I can't open it.  I regularly accept any updates.
How I restored my Aperture Library: I opened Aperture, clicked on Time Machine, and navigated to the Aperture Library that had been backed-up earlier in the day.  It took a while to restore.
When done, I opened Aperture (yes, at that point I could still open it).  It opened up on the still-empty Library, and I had to manually change it to the restored library, every time I opened aperture after that.  This was annoying, so, I then went to FINDER and deleted the empty Library.  I probably shouldn't have done this; I noticed it had the words "current default" in its filename.
From that point on, FINDER shows the restored aperture library (actually two restored aperture libraries, since I accessed Time Machine a second time to restore an even older backed-up version) but of course, not the empty Library that had had "default" in its filename.  And... I can no longer open Aperture.
Hope you can help me, thanks so much,
    Glensdaughter
