Writing on surfaces in a video?

Hi i am trying to re-create an effect that I have seen in the opening credits of some movie. basically the shots were of a city scape from a helicopter. closeups on building surfaces showed writing on the walls - the credits for the movie. The effect was that it was obvious the writing isn't there in real life, but had been added in during editing.
What I want is a similar effect in premier pro cs3. surely there is a way to distort the title slide so that it appears to be written on a surface in the background video?
Another related option that I would like a tutorial on is how to set anchor points so that as the background shot moves the text will stay "in place" on that surface. I guess this would be done by setting anchor points and moving them around frame by frame to follow the video, but i have no idea how to do that.
Can anyone help please?

Aaron,
You are referring to motion tracking and corner pinning. I know Boris FX or RED can do it. Take a look at the corner pin example on this link:
http://www.borisfx.com/product/red/new_filters.php
I know you can do manual motion tracking in PP but i don't know if you can apply 3D effects and corner pinning effectivly on the title images you want to apply to the buildings.
AE can probably do it as well as Boris but i have no experience with AE. Here are links to a AE corner pin tutorials:
http://iain.cx/articles/cornerpin/
http://www.digitalproducer.com/pages/may_the_force_of_after_effects_b.htm
Here is a third party app called "Mocha" that can export it's motion tracking and corner pin data into AE. It claims to do it better than pixel based apps like AE. Just play the video tutorial.

Searching Adobe LiveDocs can help as well.

  • Surface windows RT , video streams working bad

    Hello together,
i just have two greater problems on my surface with windows RT.
    1. Streams like Events from the ufc.tv (only the events) are stuttering. So bad that it is not lookable. I checked my hardware, i changed my router. I got an 25 Mbit internet connection. On my surface coming 23,6 Mbit.
This video stream uses only 3000 Mbit. On my PC all is working fine. Also when you change video quality to automatic, the stream performance go down afer 3-4 minutes. If you change it to 3Mbit the stream works, but the stuttering is really bad. If you look on the clock in the stream all is working well. I don't know what to do. I also talked with the surface support but they don't have any solvings. German site kabel1.deve same problems ( if i want to look series like sons of anarchy). The hardware usage is about 20%. No other apps are open in the background. I also interrupted the live synchonisation of the apps. The surface is updated on newest revision.
    2. The second problem is on german myvideo.de site. When you look a video and the ad is coming , the add never left the picture. So you are not able to look. Itry'd to switch between protected and unprotected mode and it doesnt work.
    Best regards.

  • My MacBook Pro will clear my desktop even when I'm writing or when viewing a video.

To anyone out there, I would like for someone to tell me how to keep all my apps and icons on the screen without them getting cleared out by the program or system? Thanks for any help, procedure or steps to avoid this dilemma.

    You might start with:
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
If the above reveals nothing helpful, then create a new user account. Log out of your account and log into the new account. Do the problems cease?

  • What is the best way to for a plugin to wrap a video element in a parallel composition with a reference plugin that points to that Video Element?

I have a basic reference element loaded as a plugin, which is able to retrieve information about, pause and play video elements while displaying its own overlay content as well.  What it's not currently doing, is automatically positioning itself to the same location and dimensions of the video element that it references.  For some reason, when I try using the layout API to set position and size in the video element metadata, this is not retrieved by the reference element (it returns a null value for the target video element's metadata).
I wanted to try a different approach, specifically, creating a parallel composition that works as follows:
    1) When a video element is created in the factory, it is automatically wrapped in a parallel composition element along with a reference element, which is passed the video element as a target.
    2) The reference element sets its width and height with the width and height properties of the video element spatial trait and will listen for any changes to that width and height to adjust accordingly.
    3) Now that I think about it, the parallel composition should itself be a proxy for the video element, so other code in the player that moves, resizes, or otherwise alters the dispay of the video element, will if fact be adjusting the whole video element + reference element parallel composition.
In other words, I want the reference element to be an overlay that is "locked" to the surface of any video element and follows it in size, position, display and even audio traits.
Suggestions for the best way to approach this within the framework?

    Thanks Wei,
With some more tweaking, I am able to get and use the layout metadata as you said!  Here is where my issue stands now:
    * My IMediaReferrer element can now look at the layout metadata of the target media element and copy those values, so it has the same width, height, x, and y  properties.  This is great!
    * However, particularly for RelativeLayoutFacet metadata, this is only fully useful if both the target media element and my IMediaReferrer element are in the same composition.  If they are in different compositions which are themselves placed differently, then even identical x and y values don't add up to the same position on the screen.
So, my challenge is to figure out how to ensure that my IMediaReferrer element is placed in the same composition as the target media element.
Again, the goal is to write a plugin that will have a reference to an underlying video, and will always have the same width, height, x, and y of the video it is overlaying.  This plugin should not require any additional coding in the player, but should take care of setting itself up as above automatically when loaded.
There isn't any property on a media element which exposes the "parent" composition element that it is a part of, so I don't know how to get my IMediaReferrer to add itself to the same composition as the reference target automatically.  I'm not sure if it's possible to make my IMediaReferrer element extend ParallelElement and still load in a SWF Element as an overlay, and add that SWF Element and the target Media Element as children with identical layout metadata.
Do you have any suggestions on how I should proceed?
    Thanks again!

  • Video quicktime plug-in not founded but is allready installed

    Hi.
My browsers are not founding video/quicktime plug in. QuickTime is installed. I'd check the MIME setting for quicktime video plug-in and is checked.
BUT, at the description above is writed 'vídeo/quicktime' instead 'video/quicktime'. Some genius may had translated quicktime to portuguese changing even the mime type code. If that is the case, browser will never make the association. I could install english version, but I like my own language...
Can I set these proprieties manually, like editing a file? Where is registered all the mime types and it's plug-ins?

Well, since nobody speak, I'd search at brasilian forums. Gess what, some smart guy made a small software that correct the problem in Firefox and Safari. The problem is exactly the name video/quicktime translated.

  • Why doesn't Premiere handle variable frame rate video?

Variable frame rate video comes from many places these days: phones, live streamed video recordings.
Adobe Premiere is a supposedly production level piece of software that cost a good chunk of change.
How is it 2012 and Adobe does not still have an answer to this problem?  After trying to editing/convert/mux/edit variable frame rate videos for the past 5 hours I am just exhausted.  No amount of conversion apps, etc have saved us and THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE TOO.
We have spent thousands on Adobe software packages over the last decade, probably 10s of thousands, and the only answer I find consistently is to switch to Vegas.
Surely, SURELY someone at Adobe with real insight into the issue can help answer the question of whether users moving into different medium should find a place elsewhere in the software ecosystem...

The file I am trying to edit was recorded in a streaming application called XSplit, very popular in the game / live streaming community.
The frame rate is variable, slightly I am guessing, because the real time nature of the recording/stream.  The issue is that while WMP and VLC play the file back 100% correctly, when played back inside Premiere CS6 the file drifts out of sync so at the end of a 2 hour clip, we are talking more than a full second or so.
According to MediaInfo, here is the file detail:

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 corrupting source videos?

A bit of an odd occurence with my CS5.5 (trial) installation: It seems to be corrupting videos slightly enough that it can no longer read them, resulting in a "Media Offline" error message when reopening the project. The video files are still there, but will not play back in the Source Monitor. However, they will play in VLC Media Player, though it picks up that the .AVI file is broken and needs to be repaired for playback, and it does.
If I copy the files again from my SD card and repoint the project to them, they will load. However, they will simply be broken again upon restart of the program.
If it matters, the video files are 720p 25fps videos from my Pentax K-r.

This is the HTML output from that software

  • How to avoid video file transcoding

    Hello,
This is something I have been struggling with for quite a while.  Perhaps you could help me with it.
I am using Photodex Producer to create slide shows from pictures and videos I take.  Then I get Producer to generate an HD mpeg2 video file (other formats are also available) with mpeg audio format.  Finally I feed such files into Encore 6 to create BD disks.  Producer allows for a few parameters to be set but I could not find a way to generate the mpeg2 video files so that I could avoid transcoding in Encore.  I looked at the Encore Help | Importing assets page and the recipe there seems to be simple but it does not work for me...  Perhaps it is too simple?  It does not seem to be enough to use mpeg2 video with mpeg audio and 23.976 fps.  Encore always insists on transcoding these files.
Here is an example of one such file (courtesy of mediainfo):

Could you please help me with this?  What is it in this file that forces the need of transcoding in Encore.
    Thank you,
    Peter

Stan and Jeff, thank you for your comments and help.
I finally found a way to produce a lossless .avi file from Producer.  In ver. 6 of Producer it is under "Publish->For Computers->Custom Video File".  In the window that pops up you select Format Type: Custom and Format Settings: Format: AVI-Uncompressed.  They allow you to set the resolution, frame rate and a few other things.  The resulting .avi files were about 10GB for each minute of video (1080p, 23.976 fps).
In this particular project I had 4 files each about 100GB in size.  A bit awkward to deal with, size-wise, but still manageable.  I imported these files into Encore (did not go through Premiere) and BD transcoded them using all the high quality options I could find.  The resulting BD is ok.  I think it is noticeably better than what I was getting when I generated mpeg2 files from Producer and then had them transcoded in Encore.  The main difference is less distortion in fast changing scenes.  I just noticed that in Producer there is a "high-quality" option that I did not see (I used "normal quality").  I'll try it next time (likely will give even bigger .avi files).
I like this new approach as it improves the quality of the final product.  I will likely use it as my new workflow.  Again, thank you for your help.  Please comment if you see anything that could be improved in this process.
I will mark this question as answered.  Well, the question was not really answered but the proposed workaround appears to work well.

  • Poor DVD Video Quality - Transcoding pain

    Hello,
I am working on a video project with the NTSC DVD as the deliverable.  The project is realtively simple.  It contains one mpeg2 video file, an adio track and a few menues.  It is all ok except for the horrible DVD quality I am getting from Encore SC4.  The original mpeg2 video quality is very good.  This mpeg2 video file was generated using the Proshow Producer program with NTSC DVD setting as output.  Here is what mediainfo has to say about this file:

My first problem is why Encore insists on transcoding the video.  I do not see any reason why not to use the video as is.  The "Do not transcode" option is not available.  Perhaps I have some settings in the project that may be incompatible with the DVD video but I realy do not know what they could be.  Please help if you think you know what it could be.
With automatic transcoding the resulting video quality is plain horrible.  I keep blinking my eyes because everything is so badly out of focus.  I keep trying to specify the transcoding quality to as high as Encore allows me but the resulting video stays at very poor quality.  I am not very expierence with the transcoding function of Encore but what I am getting "out of the box" is garbage so I hope you, more expierenced gentlemen, could help me squeese more from this S/W.
    Thanks you in advance,
    Peter

In Proshow Producer there are two ways (two different menue options) to generated an mpeg2 DVD quality file.  One of them gave me a file described by mediainfo in my original email - encore insisted on transcoding it.
The other way of generaring a DVD  mpeg2 file renders a file as below:

The problem is that Proshow Producer crashes (runs out of memory) while generating this file - this is why it is only  30 seconds long.  Now this file does not require transcoding in Encore CS4 and, if it did not crash, would be of acceptable quality.
I do not know what the M/N settings describe but the M/N settings are different in the second file.  Some other settings are different as well, e.g., Bit/(Pixel*Frame).
From what I know and from what Photodex support person told me they do not have a way to generate an .m2v file.  I can generate an mpeg2 with no audio from Producer but the video encoding would be as it is now I would think so I am not sure what difference (if any) this would make.
    Thanks,
    Peter

  • [request] [non-linear video editing] PiTiVi

i have had a lot of trouble attempting to get this working, particularly with the dependencies
PiTiVi allows users to easily edit audio/video projects based on the GStreamer framework: Capture audio and video; mix, resize, cut, apply effects to audio/video sources; Render/Save the projects to any format supported by the GStreamer framework. PiTiVi is still in a very early stage of development, and contributions are much welcome.

  • Updated FCP 5.1 to 5.1.2 - Audio and video now out of sync

I just noticed in my software update that FCP needed to be updated. So I updated the program.
Now when I open exisiting projects the audio and video are out of sync even though they appear perfectly in sync in the timeline. Has anyone else had this problem? The problem also persists when cutting clips in the timeline. I will use the razor tool to make the cut and I cut the clip on a ceratain frame in the timeline and then in the viewer the clip was really cuts a second or two later. Does anyone know what is going on?
Very furstrating to say the least. Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Clay

I am still wondering why you're recommending that I use an external drive for this project.
Because the internal has more than enough to do running Mac OS X and the applications. It is constantly writing files. While DV video is at the lower end of the scale, it is still asking a lot of the drive's read and write head.
I always used external drives, but we had many problems with delays and processing problems.
At the very least, you should be using FireWire external drives. USB is no good for video as it delivers data in packets, not the sustained stream that video needs. The drives must also be formatted as Mac OS Extended. Windows FAT 16 of FAT 32 formatted drives have file size limits of 2 and 4 GB respectively. Anything larger is segemented and can cause problems on a Mac.

  • Audio and Video are Out of Sync

    Hello,
This seems to be a reoccurring problem for me and I'd love some help getting it resolved once and for all. After capturing footage, the audio and video are out of sync in the clip AND when I drag it to the timeline. When I go through each part, it looks like the video hesitates often, which seems to be causing the misalignment of audio. But, once it is moved into alignment, it goes out of sync again throughout the remainder of the one hour video.
I'm capturing through a Canon Optura 50 Mini DV and editing with FCP 6.0.1. I have checked that the audio mode is set to 16 bit on the camera, and the capture settings have the audio rate for 48 KHz.
This same problem occurred when I was capturing another event last week.
PLEASE advise. It won't get aligned even if I take the hours and hours to move the audio left and right frame by frame.

  • Aperture won't Quit in Snow Leopard

For some reason or other, I cannot quit Aperture once it has been opened in Snow Leopard.
Will try usual fixes like repairing permissions etc, but comment appreciated!
    Thanks

You don't say what size your hard drive is , Andy, but *10 Gig free space is way, way, below the "safe" level for someone working extensively with video, 3D and large photo images*.
The minimum "safe" level on drives depends to a large extent on what you use your computer for, but a figure of 10% free on a boot drive is the minimum that is safe for most light users. If you are regularly writing and rewriting large files (video, 3D graphics and RAW image files, for example), then you need to keep much more space free. Some video pros actually suggest a figure close to 50% free space for boot drives in heavy use to avoid problems!
I find myself (I use video and other large files a bit, but not hevily) that on, for example, a 250 Gig boot drive used for such work keeping anything less than about 30 to 40gig free results in a rapid build up of free space fragmentation which, in turn, can soon lead to slow downs, instability and very extensive fragmentation of any new large files that I try to write. It also significantly increases fan use and HD temps in my iMac. On a notebook such things will also translate into increased stress on your battery when it is in use, resulting in reduced charge life. My own personal "rule of thumb" is to never let free space drop below 20% of total capacity. On a 250Gig drive this means prett close to 50 Gigs free at all times. HD space is cheap these days.
Your limited HD space probably explains many of the problems that you say you have experienced since installing Snow Leopard. Given your usage patterns it is extremely likely that serious free space fragmentation was already present. Installing a new OS, which can involve writing and re-writing over a hundred thousand files, on top of this can massively worsen the situation. The built in OSX file defrag routines normally work for files under 20MB, but don't operate with larger files.
By seeking to keep small files contiguous the OSX small file defrag routines also actually increase the amount of free space fragmentation on the drive. On a disk with plenty of room to spare this doesn't matter. On a drive as full as yours it results in fragmentation of directories and a host of other nasty consequences. Ultimately it can lead to failure of the drive with catastrophic directory damage when insufficient room remains for the writing of contiguous extents files and the like.
Once free space fragmentation reaches a certain level the smallest "fragments" of free space become too small for OSX to even deal with files under 20MB and the problems increase rapidly.
Unfortunately simply freeing up some room after the event doesn't really overcome the problem because the files you remove will already themselves be badly fragmented. You'll have more free space, and it may keep you "safer" for a little longer, but it will still be badly fragmented and problems will rapidly re-surface.
What you have to do is both free up a substantial amount of room AND defragment the drive in such situations. You can do the latter either using a good defrag utility (the only one I trust myself is iDefrag , but others make do with the defrag components of one of the two "general purpose" utilities - Drive Genius 2 or TechToolPro ) OR by making a bootable clone on an external drive using a utility such as SuperDuper or CarbonCopyCloner , wiping the internal drive, and then cloning back. (Shirt-Pocket Software have a useful pdf guide on how to use the "cloning" method HERE
In your case, as you have a complete backup on Time Machine, and seem to already be having problems with your current OS installation, you might consider wiping the drive , reformatting it, installing a "clean" copy of Snow Leopard, and then bringing things back from the back up.
If you are sceptical about the degree of fragmentation (especially free space fragmentation) you are likely to be experiencing with 10 Gig free I suggest you download the free trial version of iDefrag and get it to check the fragmentation level. I suspect you will get quite a shock!
My own recommendation would also be that you do as little as possible on this Mac until you have sorted this out, and have got your internal drive back to a situation where you have at 20% free space available. At present, with so little room available and a variety of problems already appearing, you are really skating on very thin ice.
    Cheers

Airplay on Apple-Tv Dont work what ever i Do - with IOS 6.1.2.
Airplay on XBMC is 100% working on all devices.
I tried resetting in all ways:
(Reset all settings, reset network / Keyboard / Home Screen Layout / Location & Privacy)
And I did Erase all content and settings on a divices and nothing did help
I installed the IOS  6.1.2 again from Scratch.
Tried to put the 3G phone card on Ipad and tried all sorts of options and tools settings where all "joins" in1 solutions
Air Play Dont work - and Air-Play do not wonna work.
have used 3 diffrent routers one apple and two Netgear routers, all of them work with iOS 5.1.1 with Airplay & Video / Sound.
The IOS 6.1.2 only give me Airplay with Sound (NO VIDEO) - (Air mirror).
I can not see or select Airplay on anny device against Apple TV with video. Only Sound. I have the same problem with Boxee.
My Ipad 1 (The First One) with IOS 5.1.1 provides me with Airplay!! Video and Sound works on all devices.
My Apple devices are not affiliated a Vendor such as Orange and Vodafone, all my devices from Apple are bought completely open without vendor lock. I live in Norway, but I use all the devices with English language selection.
I have a colleague who lives in England, using Orrage as mobile provider. He has updated 2 pcs. Iphone 4S and 2 pcs Iphone 4 -  to iOS 6.1.1.
WHICH WORKS WITH AIRPLAY and stream video and sound to the Apple TV.
Remember his phones have vendor lock! And it works 100% with Airplay.
I have searched  for answers to the Airplay issues on the internet for a week now.
There is evidence enough to belive that some have Airplay working on Apple TV with IOS 6.1.2.
Have these users vendor lock on their Iphone / Ipad?
For me the solution as clear as a sunbeam, Apple needs to take responsibility!
-And seriously inform users about the problem !
After all, some of us who have purchased these products because Airplay possible, and used Apple regularly in connection with presentations to mirror the Ipad surface on a video monitor or a large TV screen. This use its use is now ending. We have to replace our expensive products with PC, or buy an use cables or other devices which can mirror the display on to a projector.
Take responsibility Apple, and inform us users in a serious way, not with 100 different explanations that could resolve the problem, or outright false statements.
Only Apple can currently get away with not informing their customers,  and still sell their product.
Apple has misinformed in their marketing to customers with a lying, false information that your prodkter have AirPlay.
Probably this is a software problem that can be solved in an update of the IOS again, but we as users are entitled to and we need information about AirPlay, and when a solution will be in place.
Otherwise, users must find other solutions without Apple.
PS: Does anyone have another solution I would love to hear about it!
Sincerely, a very annoyed Apple user.

It sounds like you are an expert, it may actually be a combination of plural languages, hardware and various options.
Until today I have not found a solution, so everything is explained well as I can.
