Writing on the iphone

i'm going to get the new iphone. i've been researching and haven't been able to find anything on a writing tool, as in having an open document that you can add ideas to, like a notebook in your pocket. am i missing something?
thanks!

Just like a yellow note pad...several pages you can flip through, add/change notes, start new pages. It remembers where you are the next time you start the app.

  • Im writing a candidate and im looking for a complete graphic-list of all the IPHONE's ICONS (whithout downloading/paying the SDK))

    Hi!
Im writing a candidate exam about how icons could help out a certain application in a smartphone format.
I would love to have an overview of the IPHONE/IPAD ICONS that are used in the iOs 5.1 or earlier.
I would assume i could find them in the SDK but i cant log in and dont want to pay 99$ for just an overview of these icons

    Thanks for the reply...
And to clear out the symbols/icons requests.
This is something im looking for - only official :
    When you mention:
"Apple has guidelines and agreements covering use of their icons/IP."
Of course they have, im just thinking it cant be illegal to evaluate and test these icons.
As i cant access the SDK, do you know where the guidelines may exist?

Are you using the charger and cable that came with the phone?
Are you using an unauthorized third party charger?

  • Today, randomly my iPhone 5 stopped working. It has been on this black screen with the apple logo and some small white writing at the top of the screen for many hours. I've tried rebooting it and connecting to iTunes but nothing has worked.PLEASEHELP

It has been on this black screen with the apple logo and some small white writing at the top of the screen for many hours. I've tried rebooting it and connecting to iTunes but nothing has worked.
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

It likely means there was still water inside it and something has now shorted out and permanently damaged one or more components.  THE very worst thing you can do with wet electronics is energize them - even a small drop of water inside on any of the circuitry or electrical contacts can cause catastrophic damage.
Take it to Apple for a free evaluation, but most likely you will need to replace it.  For the out of warranty fee ($269.00 USD) you will get a refurbished replacement (like new, with a factory new screen and battery).  An out of warranty replacement will also re-instate your remaining warranty, or 90 days warranty, whichever is longer.

  • How can I stop my computer crashing after stating a major error message when I connect the iphone?

    Hi
I hope someone can help me as am at a loss on what is wrong. Trying to connect my iphone to computer to sync but all it does when I connect it is crash the system completely. Black screen with writing which doesn't stay on long enough for me to read what to do! Its a 3G iphone and had no problems on my old computer. This computer has Windows XP as did my old one so can't figure out why it wont have anything to do with this phone.
Has anyone got any ideas please? Am at my wits end and now wishing had my old computer back!
    Thanks

When you connect a new computer to your network the DHCP service of your router will assign it an IP address, which may or may not be the same as the IP address assigned to your old computer.  This, however, only effects networking and wouldn't have anything to do with a USB connection.  You do need to be running Windows XP SP2 or later (XP SP3 for iTunes 10.6) and your USB ports must be USB 2.0 to support the iPhone 3G so you may want to be sure your computer meets these minimum system requirements.  You might also want to try:
Using a different USB to dock connector cable
Connecting to a different USB port on your computer
Gently cleaning the dock connector on the bottom of the phone with a dry toothbrush
Ensuring that your case isn't interferring with the cable connection to the dock connector on the bottom of your phone

  • How many contacts can the iPhone hold....now?

This question was asked back in 2008 and has been archived, however I'd like to revisit this issue.
What I'd like to know, is this:
How many contacts can the iPhone hold before it effects performance?
I have a iPhone user with an MS Exchange email account on the phone, Calendar and Contact sync is turned on. The problem is, the user has 10,000 contacts.
The contacts synchronized to the iphone, however, when writing emails or doing any task that accesses the contacts database (i.e. auto-completion of names), There is a good 35 to 40 second lag before you can enter the second letter of a name on the keyboard. I can only assume that this is due to the pure insanity of having 10,000 contacts on a mobile device... The search takes too long. Although it did work just fine on the blackberry (a lessor device ).
Can anyone tell me if there is a limit on how many contacts one can successfully store on an iPhone without running into the "lag" issue?
    Thanks in advance.
    Nigle

What is the overall size of all these songs?
This will determine how many songs the iPhone can hold.
The actual capacity of an 8GB iPhone is around 7.3 GB - OS X alone takes up approximately 500MB.
You should leave some free space available on the iPhone for general operating purposes and if you access any email accounts and for Safari cache purposes, etc.
So you have around 7GB available - as long as the overall size of all 9400 songs isn't greater than 7GB or so, you are covered.

  • Unlocking the iPhone 4S - Please, a REAL answer from someone official?

I've searched everywhere for this; I've read the other posts with the link to the "unlock confirmation" that's really from the "Droid" page; I've contacted customer service three times . . . each time as I was about to pull the trigger on purchasing a new phone.
I don't know how monitored this community might be but PLEASE, if someone from Verizon's reading this, we need something in writing.
I was about to order the 32GB Black iPhone 4S but suddenly got concerned that I couldn't find ANY official information about unlocking the SIM for travel.  I had seen the "unlock after 60 days" quotes in ALL the magazines and online sites, but found nothing on verizon.
So, I contacted customer service, via chat, where I was told that:
Karen: Verizon does not unlock the sim.
Karen: No you cannot swap out the sim.
Karen: I was told Verizon does not unlock no phones/
      followed by
Karen: Would you mind holding for a moment while I check that information?
stu: Again, just to clarify, 'cause it's sort of a strange policy, Verizon will never unlock an iPhone?
Karen: No they told me no.
That seemed to end Verizon for me as an option. I'm heading for a month in Europe in June and on a month long trip, with the need/desire for lots of local calls, it's not economically feasible to use the roaming plans.
Then I searched for the press quote again . .finding:
“It is our standard unlock policy for all Global Phones. You have to have been a customer for 60 days and in good standing (meaning your bill is current) and the phone you want to unlock must be on our network at the time of the request. You call Verizon Wireless before you leave the country and we unlock the SIM. We will honor one unlock every 10 months.” — Brenda Raney, Verizon Wireless Public Relations
So, I thought I'd go back to customer service where this time . . .
Michael: Yes you can get it unlocked just as the message you sent me said.
Michael: The bill would have to current for at least the 60 days before we could unlock it though.
stu: Really? You sure? I keep getting conflicting answers. That would be great!
    Michael: I am positive.
All right! Goodbye ATT . . hello Verizon.
So, a little later in the evening, I'm filling up the shopping cart with the phone and the calling plan and the data plan and . . .wait a minute . . pit of my stomach time.  I STILL haven't seen anything official about this policy. Nothing in writing . . anywhere.  The first rep could be right . . . leaving the cart behind, I decide to check one more time:
Josh B: The 4S is global capable.
Josh B: You will have to pay the global roaming rates however.
stu: Right, but the quote above says that, if I keep my account in good standing for more than 60 days, I can get the SIM unlocked.
Josh B: No, it won't be unlocked.
He then sent me to the customer agreement, which has nothing about this.  A little bit further down . .
Josh B: Anything that involves unlocking and/or rooting, is a violation of contract and can be penalized with an Early Termination fee.
stu: Right, if the customer does it. However, what I was told earlier today, and it's the same thing that the Verizon Wireless Public Relations person said to the press a few weeks ago, was that VERIZON would unlock the SIM after 60 days, as long as the account was in good standing. Is this not true?
Josh B: It was in a magazine correct?
stu: It was in Macworld and PCMag and everywhere else on the web. The quote was:
stu: “It is our standard unlock policy for all Global Phones.
Josh B: So how can you be sure that it was actually one of our PR's? Don't trust anything that isn't on our direct website, or directly at a store location or coming from a Customer Service rep over the phone.
So, now what do I do?
I would like to buy an iPhone.  Verizon is the only one with a policy, at least in press-release form, of unlocking the iPhone eventually. However, I keep getting different answers and I don't want to be locked into a 2  year contract without getting some sort of official confirmation that the policy is 60 days.
Can anyone actually show something, in an official Verizon location, that clearly states the policy?
    stu
Note:  I edited this because of some different information about ATT.  A couple of reps said that ATT would unlock the phone. One said after 4-6 months, the other said after 90 days. When I asked if the policy was written down, she sent me a link which she was then surprised to see contained the following:
    http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB82027#fbid=5OBPuSVI7XK
What is the unlock code for my iPhone?
iPhone cannot be unlocked, even if you are out of contract. If you are traveling internationally, iPhone is a quad-band phone and will work in many countries across the globe. Stay connected while traveling to over 215 countries, plus get discounted rates in over 80 of those countries when you sign up for AT&T World Traveler
    And this:
    http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=55002#fbid=5OBPuSVI7XK
What is the unlock code for my phone?
Note: If your phone is an iPhone, the following information does not apply. Please see What is the unlock code for my iPhone? for more information.
Wireless phones purchased from AT&T generally come with locked SIMs, which potentially makes them incompatible with wireless service from non-AT&T providers.
To use an AT&T phone on another wireless network, you must unlock its SIM using an Unlock Code.
AT&T will provide the Unlock Code for phones on wireless plans if:
Your wireless service has been active for 90 days or longer
Your account is current and in good standing
Your phone is not sold exclusively by us
Your phone's Unlock Code is available from the Manufacturer
AT&T will provide the Unlock Code for AT&T branded phones on Prepaid plans to customers who have either been on AT&T service for 6 months or longer, or provide a receipt or other proof of purchase.
AT&T cannot provide Unlock Codes for iPhones and other non-eligible devices.

So, I'm sitting in the office and my boss forwards me an email. (I've been doing research on the iPhone for both of us.)  It seems that last night he wrote to Brenda Raney, the Executive Director of Corporate Communications, to ask her about her quote and the iPhone.  She just replied to his email, which is really amazing.  She's already getting one new customer, he's on the site right now buying his first iPhone, and I plan on getting one later tonight. (I do have to actually do some work around here. I put that in 'cause I know he's going to read this.)
Here's her letter followed by the reference quote:
I apologize for the inconvenience and the misinformation you received.  I have forwarded your email for training purposes so the next time you or anyone else calls, they get better information about our Global SIM unlock policy.  The quote you included in your email from me is accurate; we will unlock the SIM for global use as long as the criteria are met. The policy isn’t on our website primarily because CDMA technology doesn’t typically use SIM cards and with the introduction of 4G LTE devices which do use SIM cards (that can’t be unlocked), we felt we would confuse customers.
When you travel internationally, you need to call Verizon Wireless before you leave the country and request to have international calling added to your account profile and if you want the SIM unlocked, you can request that option at the same time.  Even if you choose to not unlock the SIM, you need to call before you leave the country and add the international calling feature to your phone (there is no charge because this just provides the capability, not a plan).  For global data, you will need to add a data plan.  Keep in mind, that if you choose to purchase a local SIM while out of the country, the SIM brings with it a different phone number so those using your Verizon Wireless number will not be able to reach you directly unless you give them the new phone number.
Here is the link to our Global Services: http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/explore/?page=why-verizon&section=international-services#international-services
Again, please my apologies for the confusion.

I have been having this problems since I got my iphone last year. Early on the phone would sync after 2-3 tries but as of the last 2-3 months I have been only able to sync it 2-3 times even after trying all the solutions presented by the troubleshooting and reading forum posts that seem to have a similar or near similar problem.
The first message I get after having the phone sync is

I had the same problem and fixed it.
"The iPhone cannot be synced. An error occurred while writing to the device."
I think it is caused by downloading too many apps, or large apps, and then when syncing over USB it doesn't recognise the iPhone and you get "The iPhone cannot be synced. An error occurred while writing to the device."
    To fix this:
    1. Ensure iTunes is closed & iPhone is disconnected but keep USB cable connected to iPhone
    2. hold down CTRL + SHIFT on your keyboard
    3. connect USB cable to PC and wait. If iTunes doesn't start for a minute then start it (keeping hold of CTRL + SHIFT)
    4. if it wont let you start iTunes or all your icons are selected then release CTRL + SHIFT
    5. when iTunes starts it may ask you about safe mode or something similar, say yes
    6. Your iPhone should list as a device as normal, click sync.
It will then start the sync as normal and you may find it will transfer only one or two apps and you may get the dreaded error message again as I did. However, persist with the above steps and eventually it sync'd all my apps with no error message. Because I have only just done this I haven't downloaded any more apps so it might be a frequent thing but better than the error message.

  • Can't update my Iphone (the iphone software update server could not be contacted)

    Hello,
I've been trying to fix this problem by my self with no luck so I'm writing to you guys, hoping you will have the right answers.
I dropped my iPhone4 today and it turned off, when I plugged it into a charger it showed me a screen of IOS6 (which I didn't had this update updated) and when I "silde right" it wrote that I need to update it by iTunes.
So I opened ITunes while my IPhone was connected that it automatically tried to update it as needed, after 20 seconds of loading I get this error massage:
"the iPhone software update server could not be contacted"
I've tried everything; turning off firewall, update my AntiVirus, restarting my router, restarting pc while IPhone not\connected, changed usb exist (using a back exit atm),changing usb cable and even reinstalled my iTunes (yes, my iTunes is up to date), although when I tried to update my itunes it gives me this error:
"The iTunes update server could not be connacted. Please chek your Internet connection, or try again later. " but I don't think it's related but worth to mention it.
    My iPhone is NOT jailbreaked
please help me to fix this problem,
    Thanks In Advnace.

    Error 20, 21, 23, 26, 28, 29, 34, 36, 37, 40
These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. FollowTroubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.

  • With iOs 7 and the iPhone can someone use the phone while also using a communication app such as Speak It or Assistive Chat? These are text to speech systems for people who cannot speak well. Thanks you!

With ios 7 and the iPhone can someone use their phone while also using a text to speech app, such as Speak It or Assistive Chat? These apps are used by people who have difficulty with speech production.
    Thank you.

My iPhone 5 wouldn't start after I turned it off a few minutes after writing this. It went into recovery mode and I had no choice but to connect to iTunes on PC and restore.
I restored to factory setting first, just to validate my phone was okay. For a second consecutive iOS update, the  iPhone 5 did not update smoothly while connected to PC and iTunes - I had to retry two times before the progress bar for the update showed. (The exact same problem with the restart occured when I updated to 7.0.4.)
The good news is that I was ultimately able to restore the iPhone 5 to factory settings while running iOS 7.0.6. I did have a backup from about a month ago lying around and was able to successfully restore with that as well, so the damage done is almost negligible since I had my contacts, notes, mail, etc. backed up to iCloud.
Once I completed both restores, the sync with iTunes worked fine.

  • Iphone and at&t - the truth about at&t service for the iphone

    i love my iphone.
the only problem has been using at&t in southern california. in los angeles there are major holes in the service, and multiple hour delays on delivery of voicemails and emails. so ive been on the phone with technical and customer support dealing with this for months.
Well, yesterday I was on the at&t support line for about an hour with this nice girl that gave my account a credit and finally told me what's really going on and why at&t service and coverage actually ***** so bad.
here's the scoop straight from their mouths to your eyes:
-when at&t bought cingular they ended up having too many cell towers for monopoly rules, so they had to sell a whole bunch and then lease back the service capacity that their network here needed.
-they've gotten cheap and over the past 9 months have not been leasing the entire network capacity as needed.
-this means dropped calls for you and me, network busy, call failed, no edge connection, and voicemail and email delivery hours or even days late.
-i asked if there was any remedy in the works, and she told me that they have a plan to build more towers but that it was stalled in the bureaucracy. she said the more complaints they got from customers the sooner these towers will be built.
-i asked if they were doing anything for their customers and she told me that they would let people out of their contracts early without a penalty because of these issues!
so, finally i get to the question, how's t-mobile service in southern california? los angeles?
i also want to get a discussion of service going in general. i know network issues are not apple's fault, but they affect the iphone experience and are going to affect the iphone bottom line eventually as more and more customers grow tired of at&t's business antics. apple does have a responsibility to its customers to be working with at&t to resolve service issues so that i can continue to love my iphone (i sleep with it).

    adrock00,
Have you been spying on my wife and me?? You are writing, verbatum, our experiences with the iPhone. Same thing - love the iPhone, HATE the AT&T service. It's shameful. I spend a good deal of money a month (paying for two iPhones), and I can not, I swear to you, remember the last time I had a conversation on it without the line being dropped (going through this procedure 3-4 times to complete the call) or completely mangled and incomprehensive for periods of time. Love the 'i' in the iPhone, but hate the "phone" Feel like a fool, really, and stuck. In this land of choices, and quality assurances, shouldn't one be allowed to switch service if the service you signed up for is inadequate. With these contracts, they have you by the cojones and laugh all the way to the bank. Shame.
Fully agree with you, also, that although Apple has provided an exceptional product, that I can not tell enough great things about, it should carry some of the responsibility for forcing us to use the lousy service provided by AT&T.
Just my experience. I'm also in LA, BTW.
    Cheers

  • Why is the iphone 4/4s so slow now with the new update i.o.s7, why is the iphone 4/4s so slow now with the new update i.o.s7

Good day, I am writing to Apple because of the iPhone 4 i have for two years now and never had a problem with service or anything until the new update I.o.S7. It has created problems with my phone by being very very slow. I don't like how I am waitnig to go onto the internet or anything because this is taking up my usuages and makes me pay more to bell since this update had made my phone slow. This update is more for the iPhone 5/5C/5S and now any other latest phone. Please email back stating if anything can be done.

  • Getting iPhone notes off the iPhone since Mountain Lion

Before Mountain Lion, I used to be able to access the notes on my iPhone from the sidebar in Mail. That way, I could copy-paste something I had been writing during the day or on the bus and take it into Word or whatever. Then, I could re-sync the phone and the notes would be updated. Updating to Mountain Lion seems to have removed this featured and I've been unable to find a convenient replacement.
It's kind of ludicrous that I can no longer dock my iPhone and access the notes on it. I don't want to set up Gmail syncing because it is not two-way syncing (at least in my understanding). (I have also tried more than once to set up Gmail notes syncing between my iPhone, MacBook, and Mac, to no avail.) I don't want to create an @me account to sync my notes, either. I don't want another email address.
I'm not trying to be difficult. I just want to go back to the good old days when I could physically connect my iPhone to the computer to acess notes. Is that really no longer possible?
    Thanks,
    Ryan
