Writing Tags very slow

I have a itunes library on a external USB drive and if I alter the info of a song or movie a writing tag progress window opens and takes forever, blocking itunes in the process.
Is there a way of speeding this up.

I still have this issue as well (I posted a previous thread with about the same response you got here). I'm ripping my DVD collection to an external drive to play through my xBox360 and although I don't get 30 minutes, it's at least 10-15 minutes.
The goofy thing is once I change one attribute and after the beach ball goes away, I can change all other attributes instantly.
It's like the first time, iTunes goes through some "reindexing" process, then once it does that, it's fine. I can also see my drive thrashing the entire time this process runs.
I REALLY hope Apple addresses this sometime soon.

  • E72 is very slow in writing an email or sms

    Hi folks!
    i own an E72 with the newest firmware.
    But from the beginning it is very slow if i want to write an email or sms.
    if i do not watch the screen sometimes i finished the word or even the sentence but the phone is printing the second or third letter.
    Does anybody know a solution?
    THANX!
    ND

    Low RAM definitely messes up a lot of things. Have you installed (a lot of) apps on the device itself rather than the memory card? How much memory does the File Manager report under Phome memory? Having too many mails or e-mails on the phone can cause things to slow.
    E72 (I have 2) like to be reset and have everything re-installed every few months.
    Mine is now getting very slow and locking up sometimes, and I'm waiting for thre next firmware upgrade, 081.004, already available in some regions.

  • Pages on my iPad3 has become very slow to open documents after upgrading to ios7. I've clicked on a folder 5 minutes ago and am still waiting. The work-around seems to be to force-close it, but I've needed to do this many times in the last few days.

    Pages on my iPad3 has become very slow to open documents after upgrading to ios7.
    I posted on here about this a few weeks back and someone suggested force-closing Pages -- and that does indeed enable me to open things -- but I have had to force-close many times in the last 24 hours, which is worrying. Are there any other suggestions?
    I am sometimes also finding that, when I have been writing something and then click on "documents" the screen goes blank, there is a wait of around a minute and then the same document is re-displayed, before clicking "documents" again lets me look at other documents -- which is a pain if I am trying to move between documents repeatedly. Again, words of wisdom on this would be great.
    Pages under iOS6 opened quickly, and there was an immediate loss of performance when I upgraded. I am finding this very frustrating because I don't feel that the new Pages has added to the facilities I was using, but a slowness to open documents is frustrating.
    Thanks

  • Macbook pro mid-2012 13" has very slow disk access

    Until 3 days ago my macbook pro mid-2012 13" running OX 10.8.3 was running fine. Then, it showed very slow response anytime it had to access the hard disk. After doing the usual checks and disk first aid repairs to no avail, I booted from my external disk with an older copy of my hard disk and everything then worked as normal, except when I accessed the internal hard disk, then it crawled once again (spinning beach ball, took many seconds just to open a finder window and then several minutes to display the contents). I ran the Apple Hardware Tests and it said everything was fine, even though it tooks several minutes before the test would actually start. I also ran the program BlackMagic Speed Disk to find out if the disk was having transfer speed problems and it showed a respectible transfer rate (60MB/s), not great but not like the 0.3MB/s I was getting when I tried to back up the internal disk. I was using Carbon Copy Cloner to try to back up the internal disk but had to give up since at 0.3MB/s, it would take days to back up the 250GB on the disk. I found on the web that using "restore" in Disk Utility, I could do a disk copy without the file by file copy which allowed me to back up my disk in "only" 6 hours. Booting from my newly made copy on an external disk worked fine and ran at nearly normal speed (slightly slower since it was an external disk running through USB2). As a final attempt to prove this was a disk problem, I erased the internal disk and reinstalled OSX 10.8. I am still waiting for this install to finish, it has been 5 hours although the progress bar said it should be done in 20 minutes. This was fairly convincing evidence that it is not a software or settings problem. However, all my web searches could find no other case of a problem like mine. I presume I have a failed hard disk but as all the diagnostic programs say it is working fine, I was hesitating to bring it in without hard diagnostic evidence. If anyone knows what might be the problem, it would be much appreciated to hear from you.

    It should not take 5 hours to install Mac OS X.  There is something wrong with the disk.  Try reformatting where you do a wipe of the drive (an select the option to write zeros which will remap bad sectors).   Then try to install MAc OS X.
    I got this information from here:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20064489-263.html
    Back up your data.
    Use Time Machine or a system cloning utility to create a full and restorable backup of your data. If you suspect bad blocks, then when cloning you might consider not using a "block-level" copy process, since this will likely run into problems.
    Boot to the utilities DVD.
    If you have a boot DVD for a tool like Drive Genius or another drive utility, then boot to that; if not, use your OS X installation DVD (once you select your language, open Disk Utility from the Utilities menu).
    Format the drive.
    Using your selected utility, format the drive and check for bad blocks. If you are using Disk Utility, click the Erase tab, click the Options button, and then select the option to write zeros to the disk (you do not need to do multipass erase options, as this will provide no additional benefit for managing bad blocks). Writing to zeros may take a couple of hours depending on the size of the drive, but when done the drive will have remapped any blocks that were not reliably read.
    Restore the OS installation.
    If you have used Time Machine to create your backup, boot to your OS X installation DVD (if you are not using Disk Utility) and use the option in the Utilities menu to restore from backup. Attach your Time Machine drive and then proceed with the restoration, selecting the newest backup as the one to restore to your system. If you have used a system cloning tool, then attach the cloned drive and boot off of it (hold the Option key at start-up to select it from the boot menu). When you are booted to the cloned drive, run your cloning utility to copy the installation back to the computer's main boot drive.An optional approach here is to perform a full reinstallation of the OS from your installation DVD, and then migrate your data, applications, and settings from either the clone or the Time Machine backups using Apple's Migration Assistant.

  • Is there a way to boost Safari? Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Safari 5.1.7 is very slow, almost dead. Thank you.

    Is there a way to boost Safari? I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Safari 5.1.7 which has become very slow, almost dead. Many thanks!

    If Safari is getting very slow:
    (Presumably you regularly empty your Safari cache by deleting the following file:
    Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/cache.db
    and clear your History)
    Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security, (including anti-phishing and redirects) (Full information about Open DNS is here: http://www.opendns.com/home/nobloat ) and further independent information can be read here:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57338784-263/free-dnscrypt-tool-enhances-ma c-web-security/?tag=mncol;txt
    and here:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1146064/troubleshootdns.html?t=234
    If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    (You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
    Sometimes reversing the order of the DNS numbers can be beneficial in cases where there is a long delay before web pages start to load, and then suddenly load at normal speed:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2296
    If your computer is part of a network:please refer to this page: http://www.opendns.com/start/best_practices/#your_network and follow the advice given.
    If you use a Router, make sure it has the latest firmware installed.
    One reason for a slowness in page loading may be the 'DNS Pre-fetching' feature of Safari 5.x as is described here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3408?viewlocale=en_US
    You can cancel DNS pre-fetching by going to Terminal and typing:
    defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false
    You have to restart Safari for it to take effect.
    If Safari seems to hang for ages:
    If you have a lot of tabs open and/or a lot of pages running Flash, Safari can sometimes 'hang', requiring a restart of Safari. This can often be inconvenient, and as it is rarely Safari itself that is hanging but merely one of its plug-ins, usually Flash, there is a way using Terminal to restart the plug-ins (without restarting Safari and losing your tabs) by quitting the WebPluginHost process:
    Open the Terminal from the Utilities folder in /Applications and type
    killall -9 WebKitPluginHost
    Note that this command kills all Safari plug-ins, not just Flash. All plug-ins should start back up when you reload the page.
    Then go back to Safari and refresh any pages that were using the Flash plug-in. This also fixes the Beachball of Death. Try this whenever Safari gets slow or freezes. The later versions of Flash 10.1 onwards appear to have improved the situation somewhat, but haven't completed eliminated it.
    For this and other reasons Apple switched their websites to HTML5 in January 2011:

        2.88 GB    Page-ins
        843 MB    Page-outs

    1. EtreCheck indicates that you do not have Time Machine configured.
    This step WILL NOT SPEED UP YOUR SYSTEM, but you need to have at least one backup method for your system. Is your system being backed up at work or at school? Without at least one backup method, you're constantly in danger that a sudden hard drive failure will cause you to lose everything. If you do not have some kind of current backup (school, work, or on your own using Time Machine, Carbon Copy Cloner, or other backup program to an external hard drive, then please don't attempt anything until you get one and have at least one or more complete clones or several Time Machine backups of your system.
    2.CleanMyMac2 is NOT helpful software. If anything it makes your system much more unstable and slower than it was before:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5061639?tstart=0
    Follow the developers instructions to remove it: http://macpaw.com/support/cleanmymac/knowledgebase/how-to-uninstall-cleanmymac-2 Simply dragging the app to the trash does NOT remove it. Carefully removing CleanMyMac2 might restore SOME of the performance you seek.
    3. You have just 2GB RAM memory. That's not enough for good performance with OS X Mavericks. This is illustrated by the 843MB of 'Page-outs' shown in your EtreCheck. That means that the computer is writing the contents of active RAM memory to the hard drive.
    Virtual Memory Information:
        120 MB    Free RAM
        535 MB    Active RAM
        511 MB    Inactive RAM
        340 MB    Wired RAM
        2.88 GB    Page-ins
        843 MB    Page-outs
    2GB RAM was was OK (though not great) to run OS X 10.6, but OS X Mavericks 10.9 really needs at least 4GB RAM, and 8GB RAM would offer somewhat better performance that 4GB.
    Macintosh computers are notoriously 'picky' about RAM memory specifications. OtherWorldComputing (www.macsales.com) and crucial.com are two trustworthy vendors of RAM memory that works reliably in Macintosh computers.
    Though not indicated by the EtreCheck report, one additional possibility is that your hard drive could be in the early stages of failure. That would also slow things down, and is yet another reason to be certain you have backups of your irreplacable files.

  • PDF-Rendering is very slow

    Hi,
    on our local test-environment with CF 8.01 we have no problem to create a pdf with cfdocument-tag.
    <cfdocument format="pdf"
                    encryption = "128-bit"
                    permissions="AllowCopy,AllowPrinting"
                    unit="cm"
                    scale="100"
                    backgroundVisible="yes"
                    marginleft="1"
                    marginright="1"
                    filename="#url.pk_id#.pdf"
                    pageType="A4">
              <cfdocumentitem type="header">
              ... content of the pdf
    </cfdocument>
    but our productive-server (the same CF-version as the local testserver) is working very slow, and when I say slow I mean minutes not a view seconds more.
    I have no idea where this discrepance is comming from, especially as we could observe the pdf-rendering on fusion-reactor witch makes it rather improbable that - as we first thought - our firewall is slowing down the process.
    does anyone out there has an idea where the problem could be located or had someone in this forum experienced a simular pdf-pitfall?
    thanks for yout efforts.

    Hi Guys I work with a lot of pdf files with being a student at uni and not sure these tips might help.
    Try an app called skim which is free it handles pdfs nicely and looks similar to the preview app.
    Also if a pdf is slow to scroll try selecting all the pages goto file print.  Then on the bottom left hand side of the print window select pdf and then save as pdf.  I have found on some pdfs (usually the ones in black and white and look like a photo copy) using the the print save as pdf option has then allowed me to view a pdf fine in the preview app without any issues.  Hope this is useful.
    I suspect its to do with pixels per inch or dots per inch of the document.

  • Why is my Air Very Slow?

    I have a MacBook Air, late 2010, running Mountain Lion (it was shipped with Snow Leopard and I've upgraded to Lion, then Mountain Lion.  I've been disappointed by the performance on Internet, very slow to load pages, sometimes not at all, and video clips on Youtube invariably stop every few seconds for a reload that often takes 15-20 seconds.  No difference between Firefox and Safari. I don't see much adverse comment on Internet re Air's performance, so what's going on?  Two questions:
    1. If all wireless bars are on, can I assume the signal is OK?
    2. Is Air just plain underpowered?  Is the new Air better?
    Thanks, Irwin

    What was that all about by the way?  What is DNS anyway?  Is that like IP address or something?  Should that be a part of instructions before installing Mountain Lion, about which there seem to be many complaints about slowness?
    Irwin
    It's kinda hard to explaing without writing a whole page....But sometimes the DNS assigned to you by your ISP is slow so what i did was give you a public dns from OpenDNS if you'd like to know more about DNS and their functions - Click here.

  • Adding to Library is very very slow

    I have 139 GB of music. My library gets slow, until I purge out the entire main library and start fresh.
    I begin to add songs to my playlist by dragging folders sorted by genre of music. Progressively it gets slower and at some points it gets very slow.
    I have a feeling I have a corrupted file or some file formats that iTunes does not like (maybe a gif or jpeg for album artwork).
    Once my library is poulated, it gets so slow that adding one new album I have digitized, takes about 4 minutes before anything happens (then it adds them at normal speed), and my computer is locked up until it finishes adding. The music still plays fine without a skip. My drive are in top condition and not SMART test failures.
    I mostly have music, some have album artwork, some do not. Most of my files are mp3 since I use the music for video editing. I get some other files from my customers which may have .m3us .gifs itif .txt in there.
    I am running the latest version. I selected all the music in my library , and am changing tags to blank besides the important ones like artist, song name and album (incase there is a bad non alphanumeric character in for example comments)

    Any time any change is made to to iTunes (song added, skipped, played, info edited, etc.) iTunes rewrites the iTunes library and iTunes library.xml files.
    In addition, the more playlists you have, especially smart playlists, will slow down iTunes because the library and .xml files are larger.
    More than 100 playlists and you will likely see a significant slowdown.
    The larger the library, the more it will slow down.

  • I have very slow internet even though my provider says the speed is fast

    I am experiencing very slow internet even though my provider says that my speed is fast.  The uploading of a page takes long to complete

  • Retrieving record from oracle DB very slow..pls help

    Hi, i'm writing a VB code to retrieving records from Oracle DB Server version 8. I'm using VB Adodb to retrieve the records from various tables. Unfortunately one of the table are very slow to response, the table only contain around 204900 records. The SQL Statement to retrieve the records is a simple SQL Statement that contain WHERE clause only. Any issue that will make the retrieving time become slow? Is that a Indexing? Oracle Driver? Hardware Spec? Or any solution for me to improve the performance. Thanks!

    Well, there are a few things to consider...
    First, can you try executing your query via SQL*Plus? If there are database tuning problems, your query will be slow no matter where you run it.
    Second, are you retrieving significantly more rows in this query than in your other queries? It can take a significant amount of time to retrieve records to the client, even if it's quick to select them.

  • Query very slow!

    I have Oracle 9i and SUN OS 5.8
    I have a Java application that have a query to the Customer table. This table has 2.000.000 of records and I have to show its in pages (20 record each page)
    The user query for example the Customer that the Last Name begin with “O”. Then the application shows the first 20 records with this condition and order by Name.
    Then I have to create 2 querys
    1)
    SELECT id_customer,Name
    FROM Customers
    WHERE Name like 'O%'
    ORDER BY id_customer
    But when I proved this query in TOAD it take long to do it (the time consuming was 15 minutes)
    I have the index in the NAME field!!
    Besides, if the user want to go to the second page the query is executed again. (The java programmers said me that)
    What is your recommendation to optimize it????? I need to obtain the information in
    few seconds.
    2)
    SELECT count(*) FROM Customers WHERE NAME like 'O%'
    I have to do this query because I need to known How many pages (20 records) I need to show.
    Example with 5000 records I have to have 250 pages.
    But when I proved this query in TOAD it take long to do it (the time consuming was 30 seconds)
    What is your recommendation to optimize it????? I need to obtain the information in
    few seconds.
    Thanks in advance!

    This appears to be a dulpicate of a post in the Query very slow! forum.
    Claudio, since the same folks tend to read both forums, it is generally preferred that you post questions in only one forum. That way, multiple people don't spend time writing generally equivalent replies.

    Hi,
    In order to gather schema statistics in EBS, you will have to login as Sysadmin and submit a request named as "Gather Schema Statistics"
    Refer below link:
    http://appsdba.info/docs/oracle_apps/R12/GatherSchemaStatistics.pdf
    Also ensure to schedule the respective request so as to have your statistics up to date, either weekly or monthly as per your system environment.

  • IBooks Author VERY slow on new, late 2013 iMac

    I have an iBook that is about 100mb that I am writing. The book is tediously slow to work on. Moving widgets around takes on inordinate amount of time and sometimes blows up the formatting of the book. On my old Mac Pro Late 2008, I never experienced this.
    I am running Mavericks 10.9.1 on a late 2013 iMac 3.5GHz Core i7, 16gb RAM, 500GB SSD.
    Has anyone else have this problem or know a solution?
    Thanks

    I'm in the same problem.
    iBooks is became unusable.
    I have published numerous ibooks, but an old update of iBooks (already with Mountain Lion, don'tv remember when), is became very very slow, with the same Mac.
    Now I have update to Mavericks (now 10.9.1) hoping to solve the problem, in vain.
    I have a MacBook pro 17" later 2011, 2,5 Ghz, Intel core i7, 16gb ram and i work only with iBooks Author and OpenOffice.
    Who can help me?
    Thanks
