Writing to a data source in JavaFX composer

Hi,
I'm creating a JavaFX app that needs to write to a JavaFX storage device. I'm using the Storage Data Source in the JavaFX composer with NetBeans 6.9. I know how to read from the data storage device, but how do I write to it? I have the device currently set as a JSON device, but I can change that.
Are the docs on the storage devices in JavaFX composer? I read the NetBeans wiki on data storage.

there is no specific support for writing to a Storage data source. Please use javafx.io.Storage API for writing to Storage devices.

Writing and including our own customer data source to Crystal Report Design

Hi,
I need to create a Crystal Report based on a locally stored XML and schema. I can do this but the issue Iu2019m facing is that some tags used in the schema and the format is not supported by Crystal. So my plan is to write a database driver which will take our format and then convert it to the format Crystal supports and vise versa. To do this before writing the driver I need to know if itu2019s possible to include my custom database driver source in to the list that is shown in the Crystal Report Designer when selecting a data source to create a report. Is there such an API available so that I can plugin my data source to Crystal Report Designer? Is this at least possible to do or is there another way?

Hi Chanaka,
Not directly. If you base your driver on OLD DB or ODBC then it will show up in those lists.
If you are planning on selling a lot of packages then you may want to contact our OEM Sales team and sign up. You'll have more resources to do customized features like this. Not sure if we can but the option is there.

2 data sources in same chart in Visual Composer

Hoping you can answer a question for me.
Do you know if there is a way in Visual Composer to combine the output of 2 data sources into the same chart or table?
Here is an example of what I am after.
Inside BW, we currently have sales history for the company (i.e. monthly sales numbers). We can use a BW query as data source for this data.
Now we have found some interesting web services that provide 'market' type data,( i.e. some economic indicator) that we'd like to corrolate to these sales. We'd like to also chart the monthly value of this external indicator on same chart. I can use an external web service as a data source for this data. Howveer, VC seems to only allow me to send the output of this service to a separate chart/table. This is not ideal. I'd rather be able to incorprate in same chart.
If this is not possble, can Web Application designer consume web services? If so, I'd be fine with doing whole application with this tool.

Technically it is possible to combine to data souces using COMBINE, UNION operators. So the resulting table contains columns of two data souces.
You can use this resluting table to create a chart.
I have not checked this uisng web services. But it should be possible.

Data Source CE in Visual Composer

Hello Experts,
we are running on CE 7.2.
I wanted to read BPM task details into a custom application or generate a report of who has claimed the task,currently being processed by whom and the history of this information relating to every task in uwl.
I know that CE 7.3 offers BPM API's using which thiscan be accomplished.
However I have also read that Visual Composer can provide this solution.
I have the following queries:
1)what data source should be selectedif i choose to go with vc
jdbc BI template? or BI....we do not have a Bw system in our landscape and our datasource is portal DB.
2)Does that mean BI usage type will have to be installed alongwith BI jdbc connector..
3)what would be a more feasible solution ...upgrading to 7.3 or installing the BI component. ( we need to perform only reporting activity as to with whom the task is currently pending and ho had processed it in the past)

Thanks for the reply, however i still have some queries.
1)I could not find the standard BPM datasource in the dropdown of select providers.
I therefore selected BI Data sources even though we do not have a BW system .
2)I tried selecting standard BPM tables to fetch the data.
viz; BPM_MYTASKS_DS..I want to know if there is any standard table which stores information about who had and who is currently proceesing tasks , if yes can you please provide the name of table or how can i make it available in visual composer's "search for table" field while creating new model.
3)we are also trying to upgrade to 7.3
Now BPM & CE are on same instance.
Can only BPM 7.2 be upgraded to BPM 7.3 instead of entire CE portal from 7.2 to 7.3?
4)Also i read somewhere that it would be an entire upgrade to netweaver 7.3 and in usage type we will have to select the usage type of what we want to upgrade like CAF to 7.3, BPM to 7.3 and so and and so forth. Is this right?
5)Can also you please let me know in which situation we should use visual composer and when BPM api is suitable?

Excel SSAS Tabular error: An error occurred during an attempt to establish a connection to the external data source

Hello there,
I have an Excel report I created which works perfectly fine on my dev environment, but fails on my test environment when I try to do a data refresh.
The key difference between both dev and test environments is that in dev, everything is installed in one server:
SharePoint 2013
SQL 2012: Database Instance, SSAS Instance, SSRS for SharePoint, SSAS POWERPIVOT instance (Powerpivot for SharePoint).
In my test and production environments, the architecture is different:
SQL DB Servers in High Availability (irrelevant for this report since it is connecting to the tabular model, just FYI)
SQL SSAS Tabular server (contains a tabular model that processes data from the SQL DBs).
2x SharePoint Application Servers (we installed both SSRS and PowerPivot for SharePoint on these servers)
2x SharePoint FrontEnd Servers (contain the SSRS and PowerPivot add-ins).
Now in dev, test and production, I can run PowerPivot reports that have been created in SharePoint without any issues. Those reports can access the SSAS Tabular model without any issues, and perform data refresh and OLAP functions (slicing, dicing, etc).
The problem is with Excel reports (i.e. .xlsx files) uploaded to SharePoint. While I can open them, I am having a hard time performing a data refresh. The error I get is:
"An error occurred during an attempt to establish a connection to the external data source [...]"
I ran SQL Profiler on my SSAS Server where the Tabular instance is and I noticed that every time I try to perform a data refresh, I get the following entries:
Every time I try to perform a data refresh, two entries under the user name ANONYMOUS LOGON.
Since things work without any issues on my single-server dev environment, I tried running SQL Server Profiler there as well to see what I get.
As you can see from the above, in the dev environment the query runs without any issues and the user name logged is in fact my username from the dev environment domain. I also have a separated user for the test domain, and another for the production domain.
Now upon some preliminary investigation I believe this has something to do with the data connection settings in Excel and the usage (or no usage) of secure store. This is what I can vouch for so far:
Library containing reports is configured as trusted in SharePoint Central Admin.
Library containing data connections is configured as trusted in SharePoint Central Admin.
The Data Provider referenced in the Excel report (MSOLAP.5) is configured as trusted in SharePoint Central Admin.
In the Excel report, the Excel Services authentication settings is set as "use authenticated user's account". This wortks fine in the DEV environment.
Concerning SecureStore, PowerPivot Configurator has configured it the PowerPivotUnnattendedAccount application ID in all the environments. There is
NO configuration of an Application ID for Excel Services in any of the environments (Dev, test or production). Altough I reckon this is where the solution lies, I am not 100% sure as to why it fails in test and prod. But as I read what I am
writing, I reckon this is because of the authentication "hops" through servers. Am I right in my assumption?
Could someone please advise what am I doing wrong in this case? If it is the fact that I am missing an Secure Store entry for Excel Services, I am wondering if someone could advise me on how to set ip up? My confusion is around the "Target Application
Type" setting.

PowerPivot workbooks contain embedded data connections. To support workbook interaction through slicers and filters, Excel Services must be configured to allow external data access through embedded connection information. External data access is required
for retrieving PowerPivot data that is loaded on PowerPivot servers in the farm. Please refer to the steps below to solve this issue:
In Central Administration, in Application Management, click Manage service applications.
Click Excel Services Application.
Click Trusted File Location.
Click http:// or the location you want to configure.
In External Data, in Allow External Data, click Trusted data connection libraries and embedded.
Click OK.

Another reason is Excel Services returns this error when you query PowerPivot data in an Excel workbook that is published to SharePoint, and the SharePoint environment does not have a PowerPivot for SharePoint server, or the SQL Server Analysis

Report Viewer and Multiple Data Sources

I know that it is possible to create a report in Crystal Reports using multiple data sources. But is it possible to use just the Free Report Viewer to view a report with Multiple Data Sources?
Our company uses Crystal Reports XI. I do not use the program myself, I am in the IT Department. I have limited knowledge of Crystal and do not do any of the report writing.
If this is possible, and if someone could help me out with what would need to be done, or point me in the right direction of a Knowledge Base or Help Topic that explains this, that would be great.

I believe it can but both data sources need to be set up. Ask a report designer to help you use the Designer to test this and see what is required.

Where is the UME data source configuration XML file stored on the server?

I'm trying to activate windows integrated authentication in my portal server. The java engine's UME configuration has been loaded as a deep AD read only database using the file "dataSourceConfiguration_ads_deep_readonly_db.xml" but I can't find this on my server. I need to modify a couple of parameters in there to activate kerberos principal management. My recent portal training course offered me a completed working example but it was for an ads_flat_writeable_db so I can't simply load that and I need to understand the changes required.
Where to I find the configuration file on my java instance server so I can make the necessary changes to a copy and upload that?

How to Write Log Message in a XML Data Source Report

Can anyone help me out what is the process of writing a log file in the XML Data Source Report. for eg: in Plsql we use FND_LOG.PUT_LINE to print the Log message in the Concurrent Request Output. in the similar manner, when we develop a report using XML, where we write Coding in XQuery of XML, what is the process need to follow to print the logs for the XQuery.
Any inputs/Suggestion on this Highly appreciable.

Create an RMI application (for example) that writes the log, and let all logging calls call that remote application.
Something like that is the only feasible way that doesn't require you to have a drive on the remote machine mapped to the local one (which causes its own problems as you could have multiple simultaneous write attempts...).

After that I created a Controller class containing a main method that looks up the remote
interface of the TravelAgentBena like explained in document "Accessing Enterprise JavaBeans Using JNDI

My goodness - what a long post - sorry for this - I hope I provided all information

of file data-sources.xml for the beaviour? Are there any other argument options than native_sql?

Here we strictly implemented the checks according to the requirements of the JPA specification. Technically, we could do with private constructors as well. But the JPA specifications requires the constructor to be protected to allow a JPA implementation to subclass entities if needed.

No, unfortunately, there is no comparable option in SAP JPA (yet). We understand that there is a need for forward mapping. We would have liked to delegate this task to the JPA design time (i.e. Dali). However, we had to discover that Dali does not perform this task properly and we can't recommend using it any more.
Consequently, there is no automatic schema generation in SAP JPA 1.0.

With Hibernate Entity Manager, the id generation strategy in use with GenerationType.AUTO depends on the database dialect. This means that depending on the database dialect, IDENTITY columns, SEQUENCES or generator tables (TableHiLo) are required. As Hibernate has the before mentioned schema generation property this fact can be hidden to the user.
In SAP JPA, we are always using a table generator if GenerationType.AUTO is used. This allows for better portability across databases. It requires the table TMP_SEQUENCE. As we unfortunately do not have a schema generation capability, the user must create this table.

while creating data source in BI 7.0 , ( from flat file data)
under extraction tab:
character set settings : default and direct entry is there
if i select direct entry i am getting character set and replacement character.
what scenerio we use direct entry and what scenerio we use default. if i select direct entry what is effect for my output.
please clarify.

System Default or Fixed Entry
If you choose Default Setting for the character set, in Unicode systems a file in UTF-8 format is expected, in non-Unicode systems a file in the format of the system code page is expected.
If you choose Direct Input for the character set, you can select an SAP character set and determine a replacement character, in case errors occur while converting to the system character set.
SAP Character Set ID
The 4-character name of an SAP character set as defined in SAP character set maintenance.
The following explains the naming convention in more detail:
First digit: Code
0 EBCDIC character sets
1 ASCII character sets
2 mixed single byte / double byte character sets
4 double-byte character sets
6 mixed character sets
8 double byte and multibyte character sets
9 reserved for code pages you define
Second digit: Country
1-3 countries that use the Latin alphabet (Western Europe, North and South America, Australia, Africa)
4-6 countries that use non-Latin alphabets and writing systems (Eastern Europe, Asia, Arabic countries in Africa)
7-9 reserved for special languages
Third and fourth digits: Sequential number
Example
0100 IBM 00697/00273 (Latin 1 - Germany/Austria)
0401 SNI BS2000 8859-5 EHCLC (cyrillic - multiple languages)

Using SAP BI front-end on external data sources

We are currently reviewing the BI technical strategy at our organisation and SAP BI is in the running where we have a need to cover more data sources than just R/3.
Because of the investment made in building other reporting databases, in the short to medium term we are considering using SAP BI as the front-end.
I have built a Virtual InfoProvider using DTP on a SQL Server database, and initial findings are interesting.
I would also like to consider other methods of using SAP BI as a front-end, and this post is a plea for further options.
Some of the existing reports that we need to replace would be based on views in the database, whereas others are driven by result sets from stored procedures.
I am curious about where all the effort is made, for example, will all the filtering be applied at source or back in BW?
Will a user-entry variable allow a lookup to the source?
We have recently upgraded to NW2004s, although we have not implemented the Java Stack .... yet. We intend to complete the implementation by May 2008.
I would welcome any suggestions you might have, or if you are able to point me to further sources of information.

The Web Analyzer within BI 7.0 JAVA run time can go against XMLA datasources (eg: MS Analysis Services) configured within EP system.
Visual Composer available within Ep 7 can go against any JDBC sources (Web Analyzer will have this functionality in the future.).

Populating a subform from a data source.

I understand that the help file in LiveCycle Designer describes the procedure for connecting fields in a form to columns in a data base. I have tried for several days now to populate simple customer information (name, address, state, zip, phone, fax) from a data base.
I have exported the data into an acess database, created the dsn, created the data connection, an secured the database. I am still getting an error message that says "Connection for Source Data Connection failed because the environment is not trusted." I am trying everything I can think of to create the proper combination of user-level security for the database and proper use of the "connection string", but now I have read in the forums that even upon success of this effort, my fellow employees will not be able to use the form properly unless we purchase "Reader Extension Server"
Is there any way to populate customer data in a form, from a data source, that is compatible with Reader, without buying "extension server"

OLEDB is the only database connection that you can connect to from Designer. Through the use of the Microsoft OLEDB Provider for ODBC Drivers, you can also access databases identified by the ODBC data source name (DSN). You can use OLE drivers other than the Microsoft OLEDB Provider for ODBC, however the form must be certified in Acrobat before it will function at run time.
In Acrobat, security concerns dictate that you cannot specify an ODBC connection string by using the Driver=; syntax. Therefore, the client computer needs a DSN configured for ODBC connections.
If you are using external data sources in a form design that you want users to fill in Adobe Reader, you must set
usage rights for the form by using Reader Extensions Server.
Unfortunately it looks like a direct DB connection requires Reader Extensions. Fortunately you can get Reader Extensions pretty cheap from
FormRouter.
As an alternative you can submit the data to a server script (like ASP) and have it write into the Database. There are plenty of sources for writing ASP for PDF files. Just do a search on this forum, or on the web in general.

Master Data Source Enhancement

Hi Gurus
I have a table in SAP which has customer, Sales Organization, Distribution Channel, Language (which is in EN always) and Customer Sales Text...
The Customer Sales Text is maintained at Sales Organization and Distribution Channel level..below is the example of one record...

so when i pull the data to BI i need to see only one record with Customer and text only (no Sales org and distr. Channel necessary) which has the Customer text value (5th record in above example)..
I created Data source in SAP and pulling the data to BI in DSO with customer and customer text....it's sorting and getting the latest distribution channel record (6th record in above example0
Can yo uplease tell me is there any way that i can get the record which has customer text in it..(any possibilities of writing abap routine in info package) or any data source enhancement with abap code...
can you pelase tell me the abap code that needs to be performed to solve the issue...

Sort the RESULT_PACKAGE by customer and customer text in the endroutine of your transformation.
After the sort, the record with text for customer will be the last record and it will overwrite the other records in the DSO which has blank values.
Just add the below sort statement in your end routine.
SORT RESULT_PACKAGE[] BY CUSTOMER CUSTOMER_TEXT.
As per the sample records mentioned in your post, after the sort, 5th record will become the last record and this will overwrite the other records which has blank value in the DSO.

How to make enhanced fields of data source delta enabled?

I have a scenario, in which we are using the DS 0CUSTOMER_ATTR to load the master data.There are some fields added to this data source but this fields are not delta enabled. I have tested these fields from R/3 side using BDCP, CDPOS tables. All the fields are writing the changes correctly. But when extracting them using delta they are not capturing.If we load the full,it is capturing all the changes.
So running full load every week is taking more time.
Can any one suggest how to make this fileds delta enabled to capture the change in BW side as well to extract only changed records?
Any help will be greatly appriciated !

HI,
It is not possible to load delta this data. Your datasource only detects changes in the customer table and when any customer has been modified the record is loaded to BW. In this moment the datasource fill the append extructure.
The problem is that if you modifies some record from the append extructure the datasources doesn't detects the changes. When you does a full load you are filling the append extructure for the entire records and it works.
If you want to catch this deltas you should make a delta datasource for CDPOS but depending on the number of records of the tables it won't be possible.
You could check if there is any event to detects the modification and create a delta queue datasource for the append extructure.
Then, you can mix both datasources in a DSO in BW.
