Writing to "classic" EXIF with Bridge (not XMP:Exif)

Hello - Does anyone know if Bridge scripting allows writing to the "classic" EXIF metadata (not sure what else to call it besides "classic") ? It seems that any EXIF changes I make (by selecting the exif namespace in metadata object affect only XMP:Exif and not the "classic" EXIF).

I think you may mean Legacy IPTC. If so you can activate it by selecting the IPTC (IIM, legacy) under metadata preferences.

  • Bridge not reading EXIF "datecreated" field for video

    Seems that Bridge is preferring the MS Windows "file created" date for AVI files rather than the EXIF date. In windows, any time a file is moved from one disk to another, the file created date gets changed, so it's not really a useful creation date. So it would be better if the exif date could be read instead.
    I've been using a tool called exiftool to determine this information.

    I agree completely. I'm just starting to use Bridge (CS3) with a big pile of short videos I've taken over the years using P&S cameras, and I want to tag them. But, once I tag a photo, its mod date changes, and suddenly I've lost the date the movie was made. This seems crazy to me.

  • IPod Classic - ok with Windows, not with iTunes

    Hi,
    I have a Classic 160GO iPod.
    Suddenly this problem appeared :
    - no music or pictures were recognized by my iPod, but the disk space was used for "Other"
    - this iPod is not known with iTunes
    - This iPod is known as a removable hard disk, via Windows 7 (Main computer), Windows XP (secondary computer), a linux thing (a friend computer).
    1. I already checked this iPod with the diagnostics mode (see https://discussions.apple.com/message/19048752#19048752)
    result is :
    - reallocs : 0
    - Pending sectors : 32
    My understanding is that my iPod hard disk is ok and valid.
    2. I followed most of the recommended way to repaird the iPod as per Support (8 out of 10)
    NOthing is working.
    I confirm I have installed the latest version of iTunes.
    3. I read the following page : https://discussions.apple.com/message/19158071#19158071 to find the relevant firmware.
    But the iPod Classic 160GO is not in the list.
    My questions
    --> Do you have an idea to solve my problem ?
    --> What could happend i I format my iPod with windows ? It would be only a hard disk after, wouldn't it ?
    --> I f I format, is there a solution to re-install the iPod software (= firmware ?)
    Thank you for your help.

    The iPod hardisk is  looks new from the Reallocs and ON Hours, but, it is rebooting more to get the correct spin for data verification, causing tImeouts,  so the Pending Sector will increase.
    There maybe something, near the iPod environment, that is causing the drive to fail, and overheat, if it has not already been damaged, or maybe it is just one Hardisk, that slipped through poor quality control.
    You can bring the Retract, Realloc and pending number low, by doing low level format, see this article, but your problem of Hardisk rebooting to find a good cluster, wont go away
    Just my thoughts.
    Magnets are the primary cause of hardisk crashes,  I would also suspect, using your handphone, while it is near the iPod would also be bad, see the YouTube video on hardboiled eggs using handphone.

  • Bridge not previewing full InDesign spread

    I am having a problem with Bridge not previewing the will Indesign spread, it only shows the first page, is there a fix?

    The answer is no. Sadly Adobe cancelled the spread preview with CS5. InDesign saves only single page previews into the indd-file. Actually I discuss this topic in the InDesign forum because imho its a preview image issue of InDesign (fron CS5 till now). Perhaps you can tell your story over there. I think the moderator there thinks that its just me wanting the spread view in Bridge.

  • 3.4RC not exporting Exif data in jpegs?

    I just checked and there seems to be no Exif data in my exported jpegs, even though Minimize Metadata is not checked. Anybody else experiencing this? DId I miss some new setting or way of specifying this? Win 7 64-bit, 64-bit LR.

    In terms of the XMP standard, the EXIF schema properties have been omitted from the LR 3.4RC version of the image.  For example, the 3.3 version has the property XMP:DateTimeOriginal, while the 3.4RC version does not.  See below for all differences in the metadata.
    I think this may be a bug. The XMP standard was designed to encapsulate legacy metadata such as EXIF, and it was intended that the XMP metadata contain duplicates of the EXIF properties.  Unlike the EXIF standard, XMP allows multi-byte characters and time zones, so not exporting the XMP EXIF properties means that it won't be possible to export multi-byte characters and time zones.

  • Error when Writing Metadata to Files in Bridge (Mac) but not in Bridge (PC)

    We get an error when writing metadata to files in Bridge (Mac) but not in Bridge (PC). In the same drive and folder, the PC can successfully write a keyword to a file on the PC, where the Mac returns an error. I have researched this at the Adobe Knowledgebase, but their answer seemed to indicate it was a global issue, and we don't see that behavior on the PC.
    The client is a Mac of course, and the server volume is a Windows share volume. The Mac is bound to AD, and the domain\username and username formats have both been tried when logging in, but you receive the error in both.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Rich Oliver

    Hi, I'm having the same problem using FreeNAS (which uses Samba and Netatalk in the backend), but I tried with both AFP and SMB on Mavericks and Yosemite, I still have the same issue.  I think it might be a timing issue with how lightroom interact with a slower write delay using network shares.  I suggest you also chime into this thread:  Lightroom 5 can't write metadata to DNG files   I really hope this is resolved as this is impacting my productivity as I moved my workflow to my Macbook with a shared NAS.

  • How do I sync my Ipod Classic 160gb with my new computer (windows 8). It synced with my old computer (windows XP) but not with my new one (windows8)

    How do I sync my Ipod Classic 160gb with my new computer (Windows8).? It synced with my old computer (WindowsXP) but will not do so on the new computer?

    Hi Lechwe,
    I had this issue recently, due to changing HD for an SSD.
    In my case, since the library in my iPod was synced to the HD it was not syncing to the library in the SSD, though they were the same (had the same contents).
    I found there's this checkbox in iTunes > iPod > [Settings] Music, called "Sync Music". Mine was unchecked, I guess due to iPod being synced to the old library. I marked the checkbox and clicked then in Sync. iTunes asked me if I was sure I wanted to sync the iPod with the "new" library, i clicked yes, and the it started determining the song to sync. Since the library was essentially the same (just a couple songs more in the new one), it synced the couple new songs and that was it.
    Hope it helps!
    Regards,
    Awlo.

  • Ipod Classic 7th generation will not sync with all movies in Itunes

    I just bought an Ipod classic today, due to my iphone 5 not able to connect to my car entertainment system and car stereo.  Needing a 30 pin to connect to it.  So I bought it, connected it to my mac computer, and not all the movie files will sync to it.  I get this message:
    For some reason, some of my movies will transfer to the ipod classic, and some will not.  They are all m4v files.  Does anyone have a suggestion?

    The files that won't copy probably have too high a data rate. From http://www.apple.com/ipodclassic/specs.html

  • Bridge CC cache not compatible with bridge CS6

    Starting the Photoshop CC adventure. First install was Bridge. First test was to see if the Bridge CC cache is compatible with Bridge CS6 cache. First result is NO.
      Test method:
      1. Set the Bridge CC cache location to the same folder I use for CS6, which contains 10+ gigs of thumbs for my library.
      2. Navigated Bridge CC to a sub-folder with about 30 images, see Bridge CC re-do the thumb extractions.
      3. Close Bridge CC, launch Bridge CS6, navigate to the same sub-folder, see Bridge CS6 re-do the thumb extractions.
      4. Close Bridge CS6, launch Bridge CC, still pointing to the same sub-folder, see it re-do thumb extractions again.
      5. Repeat steps 3&4, always with same result, a redundant re-generation of thumbs.
      Conclusion:
      The actual thumbnail files in the cache are the same. But something happens in the index files (data/store) to make each version think it does not have thumbnails, so it re-generates them. IOW, when Bridge CC looks at the cache last used by Bridge CS6 it says "I have not been here, must re-cache", and visa-versa.
      Solution:
      Must let Bridge CC have its own separate cache, so the two versions don't walk over each other. Must let Bridge CC re-cache everything, which for me (and most users I assume) will be a long and time consuming process.
      Not much surprise here. The same was true for CS5 vs. CS6.

      Not much surprise here. The same was true for CS5 vs. CS6.
    Then it also should not be a surprise for you that this behavior already started in the Filebrowser (Bridge predecessor that came with CS1 and by far the most stable and fast cache ever in the history of Bridge) and has not changed since. Nor is it likely it will chance in the future.
    Hence my advice to not use Bridge for long term DAM because you need to recache the lot every new version...

    i have ipod classic 5gen it will not sync with windows the error message says ipod can not sync as required file missing   wht to do???

    Although you used the new USB 3.0 port, the actual connection speed is still USB2.0, as the iPod Dock connector, does not have the 10 times faster USB3.0 signal pins, the connection speed is still 480Mbits/s
    I assumed that you have tried the other USB 2.0 port to no success..
    Can you do the iPod Disk diagnostic as posted earlier by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but helps in troubleshooting.
    Have a nice day!

    CS Bridge when opening file shows " Some Application Components are missing from Application Directory- Reinstall".  Uninstalled with uninstaller, reinstalled from disc.  Message continues only in Bridge not in PS.  Please help.

    What version of Bridge and Photoshop and what platform? Mac or Windows?  I can point you to a downloadable installer.
    If the cdrom was damaged, it may be the problem.
    You would uninstall and use the CC/CS Cleaner to remove any remnants before reinstalling.
    Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
    I'll be gone for most of the day, but someone should be able to help you if you get stuck.

  • Downloading via XHR and writing large files using WinJS fails with message "Not enough storage is available to complete this operation"

    Hello,
    I have an issue that some user are experiencing but I can't reproduce it myself on my laptop. What I am trying to do it grab a file (zip file) via XHR. The file can be quite big, like 500Mb. Then, I want to write it on the user's storage.
    Here is the code I use:
    DownloadOperation.prototype.onXHRResult = function (file, result) {
    var status = result.srcElement.status;
    if (status == 200) {
    var bytes = null;
    try{
    bytes = new Uint8Array(result.srcElement.response, 0, result.srcElement.response.byteLength);
    } catch (e) {
    try {
    Utils.logError(e);
    var message = "Error while extracting the file " + this.fileName + ". Try emptying your windows bin.";
    if (e && e.message){
    message += " Error message: " + e.message;
    var popup = new Windows.UI.Popups.MessageDialog(message);
    popup.showAsync();
    } catch (e) { }
    this.onWriteFileError(e);
    return;
    Windows.Storage.FileIO.writeBytesAsync(file, bytes).then(
    this.onWriteFileComplete.bind(this, file),
    this.onWriteFileError.bind(this)
    } else if (status > 400) {
    this.error(null);
    The error happens at this line:
    bytes = new Uint8Array(result.srcElement.response, 0, result.srcElement.response.byteLength);
    With description "Not enough storage is available to complete this operation". The user has only a C drive with plenty of space available, so I believe the error message given by IE might be a little wrong. Maybe in some situations, Uint8Array
    can't handle such large file? The program fails on a "ASUSTek T100TA" but not on my laptop (standard one)
    Can somebody help me with that? Is there a better way to write a downloaded binary file to the disk not passing via a Uint8Array?
    Thanks a lot,
    Fabien

    Hi Fabien,
    If Uint8Array works fine on the other computer, it should not be the problem of the API, but instead it could be the setting or configuration for IE.
    Actually using XHR for 500MB zip file is not suggested, base on the documentation:
    How to download a file, XHR wraps an
    XMLHttpRequest call in a promise, which is not a good approach for big item download, please use
    Background Transfer instead, which is designed to receive big items.
    Simply search on the Internet, and looks like the not enough storage error is a potential issue while using XMLHttpRequest:
    http://forums.asp.net/p/1985921/5692494.aspx?PRB+XMLHttpRequest+returns+error+Not+enough+storage+is+available+to+complete+this+operation, however I'm not familiar with how to solve the XMLHttpRequest issues.

  • Bridge CS6 overwrites EXIF data and changes image orientation.

    Hi,
    I seem to be having issue with Bridge CS6 overwriting or corrupting my image EXIF data.
    The situation is this, while in Bridge CS6, I open a folder with some images in it. There I select one image. Right-click on it and select File Info. In the XMP dialogue box I fill in the fields I need and save this file as a template. Then, I select the rest of the images, go to Tools and choose Replace Metadata. In the fly-out, select and click the template I've just created and this is where I have the issue. All the updated images now have the the same date and time. I NEVER had this happen in Bridge CS5. In Bridge CS5, while all the IPTC data was overwritten, the EXIF data was left alone. This does not seem to be the case in Bridge CS6 where both the IPTC and EXIF data now seem to be overwritten. If this is the case, need to ask why?
    Hope someone here can confirm and comment on this. Cheers.

    Then, I select the rest of the images, go to Tools and choose Replace Metadata.
    You have to choose 'Append Metadata'  this adds the template to the already existing data instead of overwriting the already existing data.
    And without knowing your needs or workflow, why don't you create a template (or some extra if you have specific difference you often use) with the most common and always used info (copyright etc) and add this to al your files.
    Then when in Bridge choose the metadata panel with IPTC core section in view.
    Select the files you want to alter and in the Metadata click on a field with the pencil icon (means you can add info to it) and fill in the fields you need the info in. If keywords needed switch to the keyword panel to add the wanted keywords to the selected files.
    Just another approach that might be more suitable and faster.

  • IPTC data in Bridge not linked to Lightroom 2.7...

    I have found that including data in the IPTC fields of metadata that I add in Bridge (CS5) does not update the IPTC information in Lightroom 2.7 and I can not find anything that will allow me to link that information from bridge to Lightroom. Am I missing something here or is that just the way it is?

    Can you give an example of a field that is not coming across from Bridge to LR 2.7?
    I only have LR 3.3 RC but I was able to update the "Headline" field in Bridge CS5 and then do a Synchronize in LR 3.3 and I saw the Headline field get filled in.
    The steps I did were:
    Import a folder of some JPGs and some RAWs into LR 3.3 RC
    Had Automatically write changes into XMP enabled.
    Opened the same folder with Bridge CS5, LR 3.3 RC still open
    Update the Headline IPTC field of a JPG and a different RAW by typing something into Headline and clicking the Checkmark to save it
    Switch over to LR 3.3 RC
    Right-click on the folder in the Library module and choose Synchronize with the Scan for Metadata Updates on.
    I watched in LR 3.3 RC's Metadata Area with the Metadata filter set to EXIF and IPTC and both the JPG and RAW file had their Headline fields change value to what I'd entered into Bridge.
    I don't have LR 2.7 to check if things work any differently in it.
    Can you describe what you're doing in LR after updating IPTC in Bridge that should be changing the IPTC fields but isn't?
