Writing to DLT problem

I'm trying to create a DLT from DVD Studio Pro 4.2 (running under Snow Leopard) and it recognizes that the drive is there however when I come to output it gets to the formatting stage, writing lead-in and does nothing! Has anyone else encountered this at all?
Thanks in advance for any help

Welcome to the Boards
Have not seen any issues about Snow Leopard and DLT drives yet, though there have been some issues from time to time in the past.
Some details on the set up (card, DLT drive, Computer, which version of DVD SP 4.2.x) may help, but Snow Leopard is still fairly new. Have you checked to see if there are new drivers for the card for Snow Leopard? How much room is on your hard drives? (Sometimes a drive may be full and can cause problems writing out...)
If you are on deadline and find yourself hitting a wall, something to check into while troubleshooting is whether the replication plant can take DDP off a hard drive (or DVD-R, though those are more risky.)
Some places will also write out projects to DLT for you and do some premastering checks, like dvdverification.com

  • Writing lead-out problem ...?

    Howdy All,
    I am using iDVD6 to burn a project to RIDATA DVD+R DL discs. The burn in iDVD6 90% of the time fails at the end (no error logs). However, after playing the DVD on a number of players (computer and dedicated) the DVD seems to be fine (all aspects - movie, slides, finish etc).
    A hint at the problem may be that when I use Toast to burn data to the same discs it fails at writing the "Lead-Out" with Mac OS Error -5001. Searching the Internet hasn't really told me much about either of those (Lead-Out) or Mac OS Error -5001.
    Burns have worked fine on the Samsung TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182D DVD Burner before, with other media (Imation DVD+R DL). However, writing the lead-out also failed on an Imation disc when retrying it after it failed on a RIDATA disc. DVD burns the Imation succeed.
    Would anyone have any idea of what is happening? Can I just ignore the problem? Is there any easy way I can do a bitwise compare of the DVD and, say, a disk image? Does iDVD do a verify of the burn (although having it tell me the burn failed isn't a good sign if it does)?
    If this is a media issue, which I assume it is (although the Imation failing is a problem), what has it go to do with writing the lead-out?
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions, experience, comments.
    Cheers,
    Ashley Aitken.

    Hi Klaus,
    Thanks for that, I kind-of guessed what "lead out" was about but thanks for giving all the details.
    You don't provide any information on what Mac you
    have, what OS, how much RAM (example: see my profile
    at the bottom of this post), which would help a lot
    in diagnosing your problem.
    Power Mac G5 - original single CPU model (can't recall the speed) with 2GB RAM etc.
    New Samsung DVD Burner (as indicated in previous post), original drive didn't burn dual layer disks.
    I've since found that my "backup" with Toast (spanning multiple DVD+R DLs) that failed the Lead Out actually bit-compares with the original.
    As the DVDs which failed also seem to work fine in DVD players and on the computer, I wonder if this is really a significant error.
    Many here find that Verbatim DVD-R, as well as Fuji
    DVD-R, give the fewest problems, even more so when
    they are burned at only 2x or 4x.
    Thanks that info - its unfortunate we have to burn at slower speeds than the drive is rated - kind of beats the purpose ...
    I've previously had pretty good results with Imation DVD+R DL but wanted something that was inkjet printable (DL).
    I could only find RiData locally. I now know that they are though of as second tier media, so perhaps the media is the problem.
    Cheers,
    Ashley.

  • "writing lead-in" problem

    hello
    we are experiencing an very frustrating problem. we are burning a Dual Layer disk with a one hour video, and a slide show. We have followed all of the pointers listed here about compatible file types and audio files. When we go to burn the disk it goes through all the processes until we get to "Burn" and then it simply ejects our disk (we have tried several different blank disks) and it gives the following message, "Current operation: Writing lead-in..." . the progress bar keeps going but nothing happens. Even if we put the disk back in this message remains.
    We have tried the same process on the imac internal DVD burner as well as an external Sony DVD burner with the same result.
    Does anyone know what "Writing lead-in" means and can you guess what might be causing idvd to eject our disk at this point?
    Thanks in advance.
    Bruce Trono

    Hi Bruce!
    For what it is worth, 'Lead In':
    Marks the start of each session on the disc.
    The process of writing a lead-in and lead-out is called disc fixation and it generates a new disc session.
    On CD media it is the area that contains the TOC data and precedes each program area. The main channel in the Lead-in area contains audio or data null information. This area is coded as track zero. The Q Sub-channel in this area is coded with the Table of Contents information.
    The DVD Lead-in area is the area comprising physical sectors 1.2 mm wide or more adjacent to the inside of the Data area. The area contains the Control data and precedes the Data area.
    Which helps not a lot in diagnosing your problem!
    Like F Shippey asked, what media are you using, and are you sure you have a superdrive that can burn dual layer disks?
    Indeed, why are using dual layer disks when the project is only one hour long?

  • Dlt problems

    I just had to re-install Solaris 8 x86 on a Proliant 3000,
    and started having problems with the DEC DLT 15/30 drive.
    Whenever I try to read data from the drive, I get the error
    "DLT options value invalid bits set: 0x4000" and the drive
    cleaning light comes on.
    mt status returns:
    DEC 15/30GB DLT tape drive:
    sense key(0x0)= No Additional Sense residual= 0 retries= 0
    file no= 0 block no= 0
    It seems too coincidental that I would start having hardware
    problems after a fresh install of the OS. But where are the
    option bits set, and what is the correct value for this drive?
    TIA,
    Paul

    thats interesting...I am having this problem with Maxell DLT-III tapes. I have not tried a type IV tape yet. Maybe we are on to something....
    I am using a DLT 2000...so I can only use type III tapes. But maybe I will try a different brand and see what happens.
    I just picked up a DLT4000 for a KILLER price...So I am going to try that in a couple of days using different media.
    Maybe its a TYPE III tape thing(they are the cheapest price)...since they are only 10gigs. Maybe DVDSP4 is thinking that it is not enough space to build the DVD on.
    I would like to hear from others out there who has been having this same problem, see if it has been related to type III media?

  • Writing file scenario problem on XI / PI

    Hello folks,
    I have a regression on a simple XI scenario : File => XI => File (asynchronous).
    It worked well last week but it doesnu2019t since monday : my return file isn't create on the shared directory (I re-check the target path and the directory rights on Windows but everybody have "total control").
    In the Runtime Workbench (monitoring under web browser), I can see the sender communication channel reads the file with no problem but the receiver doesnu2019t seem to be called.
    The messages monitoring in transaction SXMB_MONI shows that messages are well processed.
    Does someone already have the same problem ? Any idea ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Michael.

    Hello Ravi,
    Thanks for your response. The status I have : "To be delivered" but I don't know why it isn't "successfull".
    If I choose the status filter "All Containing Errors", I have no entry ...

  • Output to DLT problems

    Just did a clean install of Tiger and a clean install of DVDSP 4.0.2. I have a ATTO ExpressPCI UL3D SCSI card. When I go to format to the DLT (Quantum 4000) I get the message "Format Failed. Not enough space on output device."
    I can write just fine to the DLT drive with both Toast and Retrospect.
    I see others have experienced this, but I can not determine if you all have found a solution. Can anyone clue me in on this?
    It's been suggested that I do a firmware downgrade on the ATTO card, but if it's behaving fine in other programs, I don't want to compromise what already works.
    Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Ari

    I have attempted several different flash projects ranging from a simple timeline with a 30 second mpeg clip, to a fully authored 15 min DVD presentation with menus. The latest small clip that I exported to flash was 131kb when I went to the sources folder and clicked on properties. the flash folder itself was named bugtest and the flash file was named FlashDVD.swf
    I also uninstalled and reinstalled Encore to see if there was an issue with a bad install but it still will not play properly.

  • "Read DLT" problem...

    Hallo everybody,
    I bought a Quantum DLT 4000 drive and connected it to my G5 with the FR1SX FireWire to SCSI Converter.
    DVD Studio Pro recognize the drive and successfully wrote the DVD data on a DLT tape IV.
    Unfortunately, when I try to read the disc image back from the tape using the "Read DLT" command I have the following error message:
    "Driver can't respond to this status call"
    How I can avoid this? I need to copy the disk image back to the HDD in order to check the DVD before sending the DLT to the duplication factory.
    Thank you in advance for any advice you can give me.
    Best,
    Roberto.

    In addition to what Judith has suggested,
    <b>Sort t_0002 by PERNR.</b>
    LOOP AT t_0000 where begda > sy-datum

  • Writing DIgital Outpu Problems when clcking Start Windows button

    I'm using a PCI 6025 on Win98 with NI-Daq 6.9.1. When run a VI that writes to one digital line output and then click on the windows START button, the output changes state. It writes 0 and 1 randomly. I tried even using the Intermediate level vis but it still happens. What should I do ?

    Having review your code, I would like to recommend a next step.
    Place the code in highlight execution. Run it, and see if, without caring about the highlighting going on, that the effect is duplicated. If not, I cannot be sure of where to advise you next. If it does, then you are doing good so far. Now, run the thing again (stop, restart, etc.) and pay attention to the highlight execution. You need to be able to figure out what code is executing, what flow occurs, when you press the start menu. I am guessing that the cause is something with the user interface that has an unexpected result in your code. Highlight execution will let you know EXACTLY what code is executing when the problem occurs, and is a very powerful troubleshooting tool.
    If y
    ou still can't figure it out, post again.
    Good luck.

  • Writing to file problem

    Hi,
    I'm reading a binary switch file and trying to write it to an ASCII file. I'm able to read the file. I can see the output on screen. But when I try to write the output to file - no success. The file is getting created but remains blank. I'm using a file writer. I'm trying to write contents of a String [2]. Can anyone help me out? My code segment is given below :
    String tempVal6 = "";
    String tempVal7[] = new String[2];
    // find path to o/p file
    File f = new File( System.getProperty( "Programs" ), "cdr6.txt" );
    ............... // some code ......
    tempVal7[0] = Integer.toString(testVal1);
    tempVal7[1] = tempVal6;
    ............... // some code ......
    try
    fileWriter = new FileWriter( f, true );
    fileWriter.write("test"); // even this is not written
    for ( int i = 0; i <= 1; i++ )
    System.out.print(tempVal7); // printing correctly
    fileWriter.write(i);
    fileWriter.write(tempVal7[i]);
    catch ( IOException ioe )
    System.out.println( "Could not open the files. " +ioe );

    yeah..:)..I know that...I just now found that I've to flush and close the file. I did that and now..the file is being written but with junk binary characters...can you please help...

  • Need Help In Solving Writing To Queue Problem

    Hi Guys,
    I have two threads that are adding to the same message queue. The first one is suppose to add four integers consecutively. Meanwhile the second thread add an integer in between the four integers. Because of that my application is not working properly. I would like that when a thread is adding then the other must wait before it adds. The method that the threads call to add to the queue are all synchronized, but it is still behaving like that.
    I need help in solving it.
    Thanks.

    kap wrote:
    Please what do you mean by synchronizing on the same object? Can you explain it to me?
    When you synchronize a block of Java code, you synchronize on a particular object, which is called the Monitor.
    The effect is only to prevent another thread running this, or another block of code synchronized on the same object.
    If you use synchronized methods, then the monitor is the object to which the method belongs (or the class if the method is static). The same synchronized method can be executed simultaneously on a different instance of the object.

  • I/O errors, writing and copy problems to array.

    Folks recently I can't write to an array effectively. It is very very slow and usually stops.
    - capturing to the array = no success
    - copying from 1 array to the other = very slow/ error -36
    I ran disk utility a couple of times, it found things to repair and did so. Results above are still the same.
    RAID Admin does not say that there is anything wrong with the drives or arrays.
    G5/ 3.5 TB Xserve RAID divided into two RAID 5 arrays (1 for backing up the other)/ 10.4.6 and latest RAID firmware, utility updates.
    Please help/ advise.

    Are you using copper or optical cables? I've seen flaky behavior like this when someone ran a chair over an optical cable. The thing about optical cables is... they don't totally stop working. They just get unreliable and slow.

  • Writing/Reading Vector Problem

    In my project, I write all of my data to a sortedMap and keep a key with each value. One of my pieces of data is a vector. I want to attach a tag to the vector and then be able to load it back in. Here is what I have so far:
                   saveData.put("DC1",Starter._CoverEditor._Dailycover.getRowData().toString());
                   saveData.put("DC2",Starter._CoverEditor._Dailycover2.getRowData().toString());

                        // TODO Auto-generated catch block

    Is it because of the string to vector conversion?
    Edited by: Sch104 on May 29, 2008 12:36 PM

    Ended up going through and parsing the strings to make the vectors. Here is what I ended up with:
    Up in the place where I want to setRowData:
                             else if (fileLine.startsWith("FC4")){
                                  String array[] = fileLine.split("=");
                                  String datahandler;
                                  datahandler = array[1];
                                  Starter._CoverEditor._FinalCover4.setRowData(stringToVector(datahandler));
                                  Starter._CoverEditor._FinalCover4.updateTable();
                                  System.out.println("rowData: " + Starter._CoverEditor._FinalCover4.getRowData());
                             }And my string to vector method:
         public Vector stringToVector(String datahandler){
              //Begin conversion of String to Vector
              //Vector vIn to go inside of Vector vOut
              Vector vMid = new Vector();
              Vector vOut = new Vector();
              //seperate layers by |.  In form #,text,#|#,text,#
              datahandler = datahandler.replace("], [","~");
              System.out.println("replacing ], [ with ~ : "+ datahandler);
              datahandler = datahandler.replace("]","");
              System.out.println("replacing ] with null : "+ datahandler);
              datahandler = datahandler.replace("[","");
              System.out.println("replacing [ with null : "+ datahandler);
              // split layers into array
              String dataarray[] = datahandler.split("~");
              System.out.println("dataarray: "+ dataarray[0]);
              System.out.println("Number of layers:"+dataarray.length);
              // take each element of array and split that to individual pieces.
              // put each element of the array into a vector
              for (int i=0;i<dataarray.length;i++){
                   Vector vIn = new Vector();
                   String [] dataelements;
                   dataelements = dataarray.split(",");
                   for (int j = 0; j < dataelements.length; j++){
                        // need to remove spaces but only from beginning and end.
                        String space = " ";

  • Full server backup problem

    hi there,
    i want to perform a full server backup for my RHEL ver 4 over which oracle 9i is installed. Total file systems are 6 and size of oracle database over these partitions is nearly 250 GB. size of total server partitions is nearly 350G. We have a HP DLT tape drive with a storage capacity of 400 G. I want to perform a full server backup on this DLT. I'm using tar ie. "tar -cvf <dlt> / ". but problem is that after writing some partitions ie. after writing 3 partitions tar exits itself without giving any error.
    This is somewhat like cold backup.... database goes down n full server backup performed n database opens. but in my case database is properly going down but tar is writing only three partitons and after that without giving any error next statement executes and database starts.
    Please guide.
    will be very thankful

    thanks,
    alright so i cant take ful server backup then.
    now problem is that i want cold backup for my database. and for that i've created a script which generates a spool file using various v$ views ie. datafile,ctrlfile n redo.
    then this script is executed from crontab.
    now in this script first statement says like "tar -cvf <dlt> /filepath1"
    then second statement goes with argument " -rvf " which rewinds complete tape and then starts writing. there are 26 datafiles in my database and some of them are nearly 20G.
    now whenever this datafiles are written using -rvf ..... it takes too much time ie. i scheduled it at 23:00 and next day till 09:00 database was not up..... it was still writing to dlt. then i haver to interrupt this backup and start my database.
    we are not using any third party tool. plseas guide me what stretigy should i follow to have my cold backup done.
    although this same technique of writing is working with one of my server which is using solaris9. in RHEL 4 there's problem.
    please guide.
    thanks in advance
    amrit

  • DLT not readable by replicator

    Hi All, I have a dual-layer project, authored in DVDSP3, that we have submitted to our replicator three different times. They say they can't mount or read our tapes.
    I receive no error messages when writing the DLT tapes from DVDSP and I can mount the image from DLT on our system after they are written, so I know the image is there. We have tried a couple different formats, CMF and DDP2.0.
    Any ideas of why we can read the data but they can't?
    Thanks in advance.

    I will go through and double-check some of these things. I have successfully sent DLTs to this vendor in the past, starting with DVDSP 1.5. Because I'm writing from DVDSP I have assumed compression isn't an issue, but I'll check. I have also used the approved file formats from the replicator, DDP or CMF. I will probably run new tapes in every flavor to take to them for a test.
    This batch of DLTs are type-IV tapes. I will see if I can get hold of some type-III as well. I'll have to see how I can slow down the drive.
    Again, the oddest thing is the tapes are good. I can mount the volume from both layers and everything works perfectly. There is not a problem with the data, at least when it is read back on one of our systems. So it is an incompatibility issue, not a real writing issue.
    I have a date with the tech guys next week. I hope to take them several samples trying these suggestions. I was hoping for a known bug or something! Guess I have more work to do...
    Thanks for the help. If anything else comes to mind, I'd love to hear it.
