Writing to Excel file is very slow. How can I speed this VI up?

I am reading through a text file line by line and sorting data into the appropriate column in an excel worksheet. The text file may contain several thousand lines. The vi runs alot slower than I had hoped. It seems the report tool kit excel vi's are always slow. Any suggestions?

You're welcome, j. If not enough free space availabe is the issue, now is a good time to upgrade to a much larger HD, as prices have never been better. Clear, illustrated directions are available at ifixit.com, macsales.com, powerbookmedic.com, youtube and others. Macsales, amazon and newegg have a nice selection of HDs, while the latter two also have lots of user reviews.
Given that your MBP is 4-5 years old, and the average life-span of a HD is 3-5 years . . . .
Given that you have a 17" MBP, you can install any capacity HD currently available, just make sure it's 2.5", SATA, and 12.5mm high or less (there's at least one Seagate monster out there that's 14-15mm high). All other things being equal, a 5400RPM HD is going to use less battery power, run cooler, quieter, and with less vibration, and, of course, run a bit slower than a 7200. An SSD is also a possibility (a very expensive one), but you're not going to see anywhere near the speed bump as newer machines due to the SATA 1 (1.5Gbps) SATA/HD bus bottelneck.

On Windows (don't know about Mac), the latest version will always take over the file association, and become the default for indd files. It's impossible to change it.
But there is a plugin for ID that makes this possible. Never tried it myself.

1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
3. Check the USB cable
4 Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job
7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

You're ignoring context. On the old Apple Discussion Groups I never posted replies like that, instead giving people relatively detailed answers. The new Apple Support Communities made things worse by introducing certain inefficiencies. Then came Lion. The flood of messages that came with Lion required a painful choice for any of the people who had been helping here: (1) Give quality responses to a few questions and ignore the rest. If you did not create this swf yourself then you won't be able to do what I am suggesting. If you did, then open the fla in Flash and go into the Publish Settings and select the option to publish an html file as an output. That will create an html page that embeds the Flash file. Test that file in your browser and see if it plays properly. IF so, then copy that code in place of whatever Dreamweaver did to embed the Flash.
Dreamweaver is not a reliable tool for embedding Flash content... why it does not do it the same way Flash does it is anyone's guess.

It's not a good idea to use a network disk for both Time Machine backups and other things. By design Time Machine will eventually consume all the space on its output disk, which will then cause problem for your other files. I'd store those other files on an external disk connected to the Time Capsule. The problem with that is that Time Machine will only back up files that are local to your Mac. That means that you'll only have one copy of the files on or attached to your Time Capsule.
By the way, you've been misled by poor field labeling on this forum into typing a large part of your message into the field intended for the subject. In the future just type a short summary of your post into that field and type the whole message into the field below that.

Why does TDM Importer start up when I open an Excel file in LabVIEW, and how can I stop it?

I have a new application using LabVIEW 2012 SP1. I open an Excel file using the Report Generation toolkit and when I do so, a small TDM Importer window pops up on top of the Excel file.
How can I prevent this?

The TDM Importer pops up because the report generated in LabVIEW is in the TDMS file format. TDMS is a binary file that requires an importer to make sense of the binary data and translate it into an Excel spreadsheet. As per this white paper, the appearance of the floating toolbar is expected behavior: http://www.ni.com/white-paper/5874/en/
To the best of my knowledge, you cannot get rid of the floating toolbar unless you uninstall the add-in, in which case you probably would not be able to open your LabVIEW-generated reports. However, as of Excel 2007, the toolbar is embedded in the "Add-Ins" tab instead of floating on your spreadsheet. You can see how the toolbar looks as of Excel 2007 in step 6 of this white paper: http://www.ni.com/white-paper/5885/en/
If there is a way to embed the toolbar in Excel 2003, it would be the exact same way you would embed any other floating customer toolbar in Excel. In other words, I don't think this has anything to do with the fact that it's NI's add-in. This is just the way Excel 2003 and earlier treats add-in toolbars. Someone on these forums may well know a way to embed it (perhaps a macro?), but you may have better luck contacting Microsoft. I'm not sure whether it's even possible for a user to embed the toolbar.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

My Illustrator file icons don't match what the actual file image is. How can I fix this?

I'm using Illustrator 5.0 with MAC OS 10.8.4 and the Illustrator file icons are different thatn the actual file image. It's using the same image for 5 different files. THey all started out the same, but I edited them and then did a save as, but the file icon image didn't update. How can I fix this? I tried resaving the files and copying the files, but it didn't work.

Are you on CS5 or the very old AI5, which a few vinyl cut shops may have?
Do a save as , and enable PDF Compatible. That usually helps if the icons are blank, but may help you.
If that don't help do a command I on the file, select the icon, and hit the delete key to see if anything happens.

How can I fix this? I bought a bunch of tv shows and none of them are showing up and I think it is because of this library file. I have moved all my itunes files to an external hard drive and still it won't let me do much of anything. Thanks for your help.

Cut and paste is not recommended, since something can go wrong midstream. It is better to copy the files to their new location on the external drive. Then, make sure they copied successfully. Then make sure they are deleted from their original location. Then empty your recycle bin.
