Writing to the Windows Registry

Having attempted to hijack a related thread (sorry) I am starting my own regarding my attempts to write to the windows registry. As I ask in the link referenced, does anyone have any suggestions regarding what I may be doing incorrectly? I'm not sure how to construct a path that reaches that deeply into the registry structure.

Can you post some code snippet so we can look for the mistake?
Some blind guesses:
To be less nervously playing, you could just try to read the key at first (use the permission KEY_READ).
The Value you want to obtain is IFProtocol, this is not part of the key.
You won't be able to write the key if you're not admin. Users can only write in there own profile at HKEY_USERS. Makes sense as this is hardware related...

  • Print directly to the printer option in the Windows registry

I need to find the location for the option to "Print directly to the printer" in the Windows registry.  I am trying to create a GPO to enable this option at login and I can't find the location for it.  Is this possible to do?  If not, is there another way to enable this at startup for all users?  We are running Adobe Acrobat X on Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit.
    Thanks

I guess that those of use responding don't know enough about the process you are trying to implement to be of help. Printing to network drives has been an issue for folks for a long time and a lot seems to depend on the network. That is probably of zero help and all I can suggest is just to hang on for someone who hopefully has an idea. If we can get a better handle on what you are trying to do, we might be able to make suggestions. However, I think our answers are not going to be there for the registry issue.

  • Add keys to the Windows registry database regarding Java Script/JRE

    Hi everyone,
In another thread in this forum, I have writen about how I completely could remove JRE from my system.
In the thread I told that I have found the following registry keys on my Windows 7 64-bit operating system:
    1. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\JavaScript
    2. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\JavaScript Author
    3. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\JavaScript1.2 Author
    4. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\JavaScript1.3
    5. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\JavaScript1.3 Author
    6. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\PROTOCOLS\Handler\javascript
    7. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PROTOCOLS\Handler\javascript
    8. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\JavaPlugin.1010
    9. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\JavaScript
    10. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\JavaScript Author
    11. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\JavaScript1.2 Author
    12. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\JavaScript1.3
    13. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\JavaScript1.3 Author.
When I take a look on my Windows XP Service Pack 3 operating system, I can not find the same keys in the Windows registry database, and I therefore will ask about the following questions:
    1. It is correct that the keys above only is on Windows 7 64-bit's registry?
If the keys also should be on Windows XP Service Pack 3, how can I install the keys again?
I have tried to reinstall Internet Explorer 8, but the keys not came back again.
    2. After I have reinstalled Internet Explorer 8 I can find a option called "Use JRE 1.6.0_12 for <applet> (requires restart)" if I go to Internet options>advanced. I have not installed a JRE on my Windows XP, since I will make a installation of the latest JRE from scratch.
    2. It is posible to remove the option above (e.g. via the Windows Registry editor), so the latest JRE can add the option again to Internet Explorer 8?
Very thanks for the answers, and happy new year.
    Regards,
    Anders

Javascript has nothing to do with the Java and the JRE and though I can't be certain I doubt very much if those registry entries have anything to do with the JRE.

  • Where are power options saved in the Windows registry?

The problem is that a customer IT department did something wrong during deploying GP preferences. Now nothing is working and we have to delete all settings, that the new GP preferences I newly created will work.
Now GP preferences is not working on 300 clients. I don't know what they have done. If we reinstall the clients, GP preferences (power settings) are working fine. They have only used GP preferences for power settings. No other changes before the problem started.
My senior manager told me to delete power options / settings in the Windows registry. So I can delete this?
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace\{025A5937-A6BE-4686-A844-36FE4BEC8B6D}

Where are power options / settings from Windows 7 saved in the Windows registry? We deploy the energy settings via GPO’s.

  • Anyone know of a Java package to access the Windows registry, ntfs acl, etc

I know Java is OS neutral but I was wondering if anyone has developed an open source or free group of java classes (probably C++ wrappers) to give you the ability to easily interface with Windows? I'm looking for ways to work with Windows users and groups, NTFS permissions, the Windows registry, the Windows API, etc. I saw a decent registry wrapper awhile back but I'm not sure about the rest!

Just write your own wrappers, or simply reference native win32 API.

    Sanjeev:
Maybe you can help. I haven't been able to resolve this one "small" problem which is preventing me from rolling out iWS6.0 SP2. I created a new instance of the server using "Add Server" so that I have 2 Web sites (e.g. test1.domain.com and test2.domain.com), but the 2nd server instance is pointing to the same HTML location as the first (i.e. http://test2.domain.com takes you to the same location as http://test1.domain.com). What do I need to change and where to fix this? Need a VERY quick answer to this to implement a production Web server. I've tried the suggestions made so far (see: http://softwareforum.sun.com/servlet/ProcessRequest?RHIVEID=181&RPAGEID=135&HOID=50B500000008000000966A0000&UCATEGORY_0=_23_%24_6_&UCATEGORY_S=0&USEARCHCONTEXT_QUESTION_0=server+instances&USEARCHCONTEXT_QUESTION_S=0) but nothing has resolved this problem. If you have any ideas at all, I'd appreciate if you could let me know :)

I have an active subscription but everytime I open the program it says trial expired.  I have installed, reinstalled, and installed again.  I have also installed the windows registry patch.
It wouldn't install for nearly 5 times I tried to do this.  Now it's finally installed again but it won't budge past the trial version.  I click BUY NOW but then it says "error you already have a subscription" then it times out and just stays on the Trial Expired page.

    Hey kushlar,
Please log out from your Adobe application and login again.
Once you launch Acrobat and get error saying trial expired, you will find an option saying 'license this software'.
Select this option and enter your credentials.
Now check and let me know.

  • Can Java be used to manipulate the Windows registry?

Can Java be used to manipulate the Windows registry? If so, can someone point me to some examples?
    Thanks!

There is no supplied capability to do this, because the registry is Windows platform specific.
It might be possible by making the call through a native Windoze app.

  • How can I retrieve the IP address of the default printer from the windows registry

I am using LabVIEW 7 on windows NT4 computers.
I have a SubVI that I use to ping the network printer to make sure that the printer is on line prior to sending a print at the end of testing a unit.
If LabVIEW does not get a reply to its ping data is saved locally and the user informed.
I would like to modify the VI that pings the printer to ping the default printer of the computer on which the VI is running.
I would be grateful if anyone can show me how to retrieve the default printers IP address.

    Hi Stuart,
The registry entries for User's Default Printer are:
    Win 9x:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Windows]
    NT/XP:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows]
    "Device"="Printer Name"
The device is the name used to represent the printer in the registry. The name can be found in the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\Settings] key.
Machine name is part of the "Printer Name," which you can use to ping directly (i.e., w/out having to look-up its IP address).
    Hope this helps.

    Khalid

  • How to retrieve the Photoshop version installed using Windows Registry?

    Hi,
I would like to determine if the installed version is CS4 or higher using the Windows Registry.
I currently have Photoshop CS4 and CS6 installed on my computer. They appears as follow in the registry:
    [Photoshop CS4] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Adobe/Photoshop/11.0
    [Photoshop CS6] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Adobe/Photoshop/60.0
Does somebody knows if the folder "number" (50.0?) used for Photoshop 5?
Also, for example, is it always 60.0 for Photoshop CS6? Even when an update has been installed?
    Best Regards,
    Lionel

All types of plug-ins can be put in the plug-ins subfoder, either right in that folder itself or in a subfolder of plug-ins of your choosing (usually a better idea).  Photoshop enumerates them all.
The plug-ins folder location can and should be derived from the registry.  I'm not at my workstation right now so I don't have the specifics handy.
Of course you need to put 32 bit plug-ins in the 32 bit installation area, and the 64 bit plug-ins in the 64 bit registry.
The list I provided above is rigorous for versions after Photoshop CS4.

  • Illustrator Launch Error: Windows registry was not in the expected state.

    Hi All,
I just upgraded to CS3 Design Premium, and I'm I'm getting the following error when I launch Illustrator:
"The Windows registry was not in the expected state. PLease run the Illustrator installer to correct this problem. Illustrator will continue to run, but may not operate properly."
I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 on a dual Xeon workstation with 4GB of RAM. I found the following article in the knowledgebase, but it did not solve the problem:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/kb401602
I have also uninstalled CS2, reinstalled CS3 and reinstalled CS3 *again*.
Illustrator does run, but it's slow and unstable. Any thoughts on what's going on and what I can do to fix it? Many thanks!

  • Creating a new key in Windows Registry

    Hello all,
Have been trying to use JNIRegistry for creation of a new key in Windows' Registry, and it doesn't work.
Would appreciate if anyone has an example of how to do it.
    thank you,
    Rami A.

    I presume your refering to:
    http://www.trustice.com/java/jnireg/
Obviously JNIRegistry is not a standard part of Java as its OS specific.
Why are you attempting to create a key in the registry with java?
I would recommend you have a look at java.util.prefs.Preferences which
uses the registry under Windows OS but also handles other os's in a way
that is native to that os.
If you have a burning need to use JNIReg, then can you please post the
code that you used? A quick look at the docs for it tells me that you
need to create a RegistryKey object for the place where you wish to
create the key and then use createSubKey().
Also the documentation mentions that the Key Class is a mirror of how
the "Windows Registry API" works, and then says to have a gander at the
"Windows Registry API" if you have any questions. I would suggest
having a gander at www.msdn.com. Also try this link:
