Written/hard copy of Final Cut Studio manuals

I have done an upgrade and would relly like to know how I can puchase the manuals. I know they come as PDF files but call me old fashion

All true.
However if you don't know the term or can't spell it right, the PDF's indexing is exactly the same as the printed manuals... And you certainly can go to the index, and click on chapters that may help you. I find it still easier than carrying around a book, and flipping through the pages...it's a pdf of them that has links all thru it (can't click on a books page and jump around). But you can search it just like you would if you had the printed manual... rather than use the search dialog. Just use the index... and start clicking there, just as you would if you had the printed manual... you'd have to open pages that the index in front sends you to, right?
I think you're right, David, you can't take it away from the system unless of course you have a laptop to read it from. Which I do... and you don't even have to load FCP to get it either... just take a copy of it from the contents of FCP's application icon. It's a bit buried there, but it's not impossible at all.
I still prefer the online docs... I wanna save the trees. It doesn't really cost Apple all that much to print them, so we'd not save all that much except in shipping charges. Nevertheless... a tree saved is a tree making nice air.

Installing used copy of Final Cut Studio 2

Hello,
I've been reading around the net and haven't been able to find a very clear answer as to what happens when you buy and install a used copy of Final Cut Studio. I understand that the program can be sold as soon as it is completely uninstalled from the seller's machine, but it's what happens after that on the buyer's machine that I am dealing with.
It is important to note that I am dealing with full versions of the program, not upgrades (nor do I have to option to consider them in my situation).
These are my questions;
1. When the buyer (me) installs the seller's used copy of Final Cut Studio 2 will I be able to install the program on both a desktop & laptop like when the suite is new (this is vital because I am getting a new laptop and need studio on both machines)?
2. If (for some unknown reason) the seller's used copy of FCS2 doesn't install, can I install FCS HD without any problems?
3. If for some reason FCS2 isn't completely uninstalled from the seller's machine will it impede my installation process of FCS2?
Any info you can give me in regard to any of these questions would be greatly appreciated. It is a bit time sensitive (not that I have a deadline but I need to do this asap) so immediate responses would be amazing.

2. When I say FCS 2 I mean the suite that came with Final Cut Pro 6, DVD Studio Pro 4, Motion 3, LiveType 2, Soundtrack Pro 2, Color, Compressor 3. I'm pretty sure it will play nicely with a new intel machine.
When I say FCS HD I mean the suite that came with Final Cut Pro (5.1.4), DVD Studio Pro, Motion 2, and Soundtrack Pro, and Compressor 2. This version (5.1) was made to work with intel machines.

Online where exactly? Post a URL. The application is only legally available for purchase as a direct download from the App Store. Or are you talking about the trial version?

Selling a Registered copy of Final Cut Studio 3

I am wanting to sell my copy of Final Cut Studio 3 but it is registered to me. Will the new owner be able to register it if I do everything legal per the copyright agreament? How would the buyer go about registering it when my name is already on it?

It's not complicated. All you have to do is sell the complete package (discs, documentation etc). Remove the software from your computer. The new owner registers it in their name and takes over ownership. Done.

Does anyone know where I can get paperback manuals for Final Cut Studio.
Most of the stuff on the web is training manuals. I'm after a reference manual.
I know I could print the e-manuals that come with the software but I'd prefer to purchase.

I'm going to play Devil's Advocate on this one. Please tell me that IT didn't just buy one copy and put it on 19 different computers. Please tell me that they purchased one set of the software but got 19 different serial numbers - one for each computer - or something like that. If not, you should let them know that they are breaking copyright laws. Maybe you would each have gotten a manual.

Bought a hard copy of Final Cut Pro 7 a few years ago, now I want to update it to the new FCP without having to repurchase it.

Originally, I bought Final Cut Pro 7 as a hard copy (at the apple store, not app store). Now, since there have been many new updates to the software (Final Cut Pro X, and so on) - I made an attempt to download the updates from the app store; but it doesn't seem to realize that I already have Final Cut Pro installed, and it's trying to make me repurchase it (I'm not in the mood to spend another $300). I'm aware that people who purchased Final Cut Pro on the app store are able to receive updates for free - so why can't I?

FCPX is a from the ground new app, sharing just the name of legacy FC/p.
no upgrade path avail. But worth every penny
download the 30d free trial first! It's a very different app compsred to what you are use to.

Want to install MY copy of Final Cut Studio & change Name & Serials

I want to install my personal copy of FCP onto an iMac I just purchased, but every time I restart it still says old name and old registration number. Tried deleting Library/Application Support/ProApps/Final Cut System ID....but still won't let me change registration info???

I'm confused.
You did a clean install of Final Cut Pro on a new iMac, and some other name and serial number comes up?
That's not possible.

Set of manuals for Final Cut Studio 5.1

Does anyone have a set of manuals for Final Cut Studio 5.1 that they don't need and would be willing to sell?
I got the crossover version, and find it difficult to cuddle up with the pdf files provided.
If you purchased the full version, and have now gone on to Studio 2 full version, and don't need the manuals to Studio 5.1, and are interested in selling them, please post back here.

1. Turn off caps lock on your keyboard.
2. Use Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to clone your internal hard drive.
3. Use the Installation disks that came wiith your computer to Erase and Install Mac OS X on your internal hard drive. Use Software Update to get your copy of Mac OS to the latest version.
4. Repair Permissions.
5. Install Final Cut Studio. Use Software Update to get your copy of Final Cut Studio to the latest version.
6. Repair Permissions.
7. Use the cloned hard drive to restore the contents of your Home folder -do not copy the contents of your Library folder, only the folder "Mail" should be copied from there to your new Home/Library folder.

Is it possible to export Final Cut Pro X projects or .MOV to DVD Studio Pro (from Final Cut Studio v.3)? I'm using the free trial of Final Cut Pro X and later acquired a copy of Final Cut Studio (FCP 7, Compressor 3.5, DVD Studio Pro 4, Color 1.5, Motion 4, Soundtrack Pro 2).
I don't like the default DVD export in FCPX, so I would like to do it on DVD Studio Pro. Is it possible to export the project or the final .MOV file to DVD Studio Pro?
Additionally, can I use unfinished FCPX projects on FCP7?
Is it possible to export from FCPX to Compressor 3.5 (Final Cut Studio)?
Feedback would be greatly appreciated. As of this post, I have about 13 days left on my FCPX trial. Or would it just make sense to just use Final Cut Pro 7, since I have a permanent copy of it?

Yes you can make DVDs in DVDSP using video exported from FCPX.
There are some apps that will translate between X and 7- that said I would highly recommend not going back and forth as the translations are not 1:1 perfect.
I would recommend storing all Events and Projects on the External drive.
Compressor 3.5 will not accept exports directly from FCPX- you'll need Compressor 4 which is $49.
Totally up to you whether you want to make the jump to X. 7 is an EOL'ed program, meaning there will not be another version of that application. Final Cut Pro X is the version being actively developed now.

I hope you can help. I have just bought a new Macbook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM, with OS X 10.4.10 running. It came with iLife 08.
I installed Logic Studio 8 (which was successful), and have been trying to install my copy of Final Cut Studio 2. When I run the installation, the options appear for custom install, but FInal Cut Pro, Compressor and QMaster are greyed out, and the action identified for them is "skip. If I rest the mouse over any of the options the text TT_NEWERALREADYINSTALLED appears.
I have tried uninstalling the Logic Studio components with AppZapper, and retrying the install of Final Cut Studio, but no matter what I try to do, it won't install Final Cut Pro.
Can anybody help?

Hello, I am a film student, and was wondering the legal bits about splitting a used copy of final cut studio. As I am a student (student = little money) it is one of the only ways to get my hands on a copy for my self.

Ah - i'm certainly not advocating "stealing" - which is very very wrong. I'm answering more the post about getting license keys - purchase - for earlier copies of FCP - which I did read about a long long time ago on the forum - hence my comment. That's why I put BB.
Students are a rare breed of 'other folk' when innovation today - is the artist of tomorrow yadee yadee ya. However doing it the correct way is the only way.

Where can I find Final Cut Studio retail?

As a graduate of Media hoping to get into the industry as an editor, I find myself in the difficult position of trying to find a retail copy of Final Cut Studio. Every retailer I've searched no longer stocks the software. I'm worried that I may not be able to get hold of a copy and will be forced to download Final Cut Pro X, despite the fact it has recieved terrible reviews and would rather get the older, better software.
Has Apple phased Studio out of retail because if they have, that's not something I wanted to hear.

In the technology world, especially in the world of video with an ever increasing number of codecs being introduced each year, it would be a reasonable assumption that software that's already two years old (FCP 7) and will never be developed or updated in any way, will only be good for about two to four years. And that's assuming that you have access to the hardware that supports the older software. It's my personal prediction that Apple will drop the MacPro line of desktops within the next couple of years. With their move to iOS and consumer gadgets and software, coupled with the fact that it is generally the video and audio professionals that use beefy desktop system, and the fact that Apple is clearly shifted its focus away from the professional crowd, what will you do when you need new or replacement hardware to run this old, EOL software on and Apple has nothing to offer?
Since you're just starting out, my advice to you would be to start learning actual professional editing software and I'd further strongly suggest that you do that on a different platform than a Mac. If you can find FCS 3 and have a decent system to run it on, great; you can use that as well. But I'd plan for an Apple-free future if you want to make a living in video post-production.
I don't make these statements lightly; after all these years using Apple products, I find it's just a sad fact.

Help with installing Final Cut Studio package

I have a copy of Final Cut Studio 2.0.1. I would like to know if there is a way to create an image file to combine all disks into 1 file. This would help in installing, since I only have one set of disks. I don't want to risk ruining any of the disks, since I have a lab of 30 computers to install Final Cut Studio 2 on.

Shane, I have all 8 FCP disks saved as a dmg file. I am currently storing these in a share on our NEW Apple XSERVE. I have tried mounting all of the 8 dmg files to the desktop of the iMac, that I'm wanting to install on. But this takes an unusally long time, I cancelled it after a couple days of it trying to mount the images to the desktop.
I'm very green to using Apples, just something that has been dropped in my lap.
Is there a way that I can mount these images in the folder on the Xserve? of is using a portable HDD the only way to do it.

Installing Final Cut Studio 3

I recently had to restore from back-up to a new laptop. I went to use Final Cut Pro from (Final Cut Studio 2)and was asked for a serial number. Unfortunately I have lost the discs without registering (monumentally stupid I know). Bottom line is I want to buy a copy of Final Cut Studio 3 and install that.
Would you recommend I uninstall my current unregistered version..or can I install straight over the top of it even though it is not an "upgrade" version I will be buying. (it will be the "full" version.)

Always a good idea to do a clean install, however, if you buy a legit copy of fcstudio3, don't see why you can't just try using the full (rather than an upgrade) serial number when it asks for the serial number.
Good luck in finding a copy of fcs3. Apple's not selling it anymore.
