Wrong answer option
I have a quiz that the user must pass with 100% in order to receive credit. I have to allow them to try again if they answer incorrectly. Can I create a quiz that will take the user back to a slide from the training when they submit an incorrect answer, replay the slide with audio, then take them back to the question to try again?

Able to advance past question with wrong answer
The following applies to a multiple choice question in Captivate 3.0.1 Build 589. You are able to advance through a question even if you have selected the wrong answer by doing the following:
Answer a question incorrectly. A box saying "Try Again" pops up.
Press the previous button on the Captivate navigation bar to go to the previous slide.
Press the next button on the Captivate navigation bar to advance to the question slide. The incorrect answer is still selected.
Press the next button on the Captivate navigation bar while the incorrect answer is still selected.
Captivate advances, even though you have not answered the question correctly.
This is a major issue for me for two reasons. A) It allows learners to advance without demonstrating that they learned what we are trying to teach them, and B) It actually misinforms learners by letting them advance with the wrong answer selected, so they may actually believe that what they answered is correct.
Does anyone else have this problem? Anyone have any ideas how I can fix it?

Do you know what wrong answer options you have selected? If you do not want the user to advance when they select a wrong answer, you can make sure they do not. On the question slides of interest, go to Edit Question. Select Options. Under "If wrong answer" section, select Infinite attempts. Now the user will not be able to advance until he/she gets the answer correct. The only side note on this is the user will get the Incorrect Answer message only one time. After that there are no response message until the correct answer is chosen. Hope this helps.

Is the Advanced Answer Option missing in CP7? (I'm looking in Properties panel.)

I'm new to CP7 but I've seen some online tutorials and they clearly show an Advanced Answer Option for multiple choice question (so I can provide feedback to wrong answer).
Unfortunately I don't see it anywhere in the Properties Panel as I'm supposed to. I just see Character, Format, Shadow & Reflection, Transform.
Thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction. (BTW, I have multiple attempts selected in Quiz Properties).I assume I'm on a normal slide (I am VERY new to CP but I have checked this 2 ways. First, the timeline is not on the Master tab. Second, I have gone to menu at the top for Insert > Question Slide and while there, I noted that Insert > Quiz Master Slide was greyed out and not an option).
I'm afraid I didn't find the 'utils' folder. I looked in all six locations where Captivate has folders (mostly put there automatically) but I may have missed it. I will list those locations below FYI.
However, there has been a solution of sorts. I went into the second folder on the list below and cleared the cache as you suggested. I then ran CP7 as Administrator (advice I'd seen for a different problem on another thread). I created a new blank slide and inserted MPQ. The Advanced Answer Option was there. I then went back the original slide that was giving me problems (still running program as Admin) but once again, no Advanced Answer Option. Strange, no? Luckily, I'm still just at the playing-around stage so it's no problem to kill that first slide and start afresh.
If there's anything else you think I need to know or if you want me to try something else to satisfy curiousity, let me know. Otherwise, I appreciate your advice till here.

BasicService.getCodeBase returns wrong answer
I've been working on an applet that I'm just now sending out to "pre-alpha" testing. Of the 6 people who tried it, it works for four of them, but not for 2. (One of the failures is my boss!) All six are using the one website to test.
The problem is that I'm getting the wrong answer from BasicService.getCodeBase() on those two machines.
What I should be getting, and I am getting on the machines that work is: https://172.26.16.139/Heatmaps/app/ On the machines that fail, I get https://172.26.16.139/ Which is the document base.
I'm using the deployJava javascript and JNLP to launch the applet. The Control Panel -> View -> Show JNLP File shows the right code base on both failing machines.
I know two of the machines that work are running 1.6.0_22 and that one of the machines that fails is running _17.
I have two (make that three) questions:
1. Has anybody seen this bug? I don't see anything like it in the bug parade (now called "sun defects," I think).
2. Would Applet.getCodeBase() be more reliable? (I'll be trying that next. On one of the machines that work, I get the same, correct, answer.)
3. (For this you get extra points) How do I pick which plugin version to use in a browser? The "use next generation plugin" check box in the Java control panel has nothing to do with it. The IE(8) Advanced options just has a check box for using the plugin, not which plugin version. And this has nothing to do with the jre version. If I disable _22 and enable _17, I still get the _22 plugin. (Check the first two lines of the Java console.)

Quiz slide not advance when using question pools and advance answer options?
Hi,
I am using CP 5.5. I created a small test where I have just 2 question in a question pool. The questions are using the advanced answer options to show some specific feedback. When I insert the questions in to the project using a random question slide, after the user answers where you should be able to press Y or click to move on, I click, but nothing happens. You can't get off the quiz slide. The quiz slides work fine when they are inserted in the project as reqular quiz slides, but not when they are being pulled from a question pool.
Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround? Anyone else run in to this?

LoriI was having the same problem on the last Random Question slide (total 10 RQ slides), and was able to fix it by following the next steps:
Make sure Quiz: Pass or Fail actions are set to Continue for both Passing and Failing actions in the quiz preferences.
Delete the RQ slide not advancing, then duplicate one of the RQ slides working, and assign your question pool to the new slide if different from the original duplicate. This step will make sure you are using a good working RQ slide.
For some reason, my last RQ slide was corrupted and wasn't advancing to the Score slide at the end of the quiz.
I can finally finish this project.

Reviewing Slides On Wrong Answer?
When in questions is there a way of reviewing previous slides when a wrong answer is given; for example:
A standard presentation of 50 slides is viewed and then candidates are taken to the question slides
If question 1 is answered correctly it moves onto question 2
if question 2 is answered incorrectly the candidate is then taken taken to the relevant slide (say slide 30) and returned to question 2 for another attempt.
The only way I have managed to do this so far is to do a slight workaround by changing the way the reporting works i.e. duplicating the relevant reiew slides and putting them after the question slides. Unfortunately this means the only way I can record their scores is to show quiz attempt not the native scoring results because on each review (out of the quiz) it resets the scores and shows an overall quiz fail for each wrong answer. This obviously isn't the correct way of reporting quiz scores i.e.
Number of questions set
Incorrect answers
Correct answers
Percentage
Pass/Fail
This means that using this workaround I'm not getting the level of reporting normally available
So my question is simply, is there a proper way I can record the correct scores and still retain the ability to review wrong answers? This approach encourages a pro-active way to learn instead of penalising people for incorrect answers and allows them to learn without having to sit through a long presentation more than once - hence me wanting keep this style and be able to get full featured reporting.
I apologise if I'm being a little long-winded in my explanation or indeed if I'm missing something pretty basic with the software.

Do not know if this has anything to do with etiquette, just did not know if you were asking me or the other user more help.
As we both explained: with the Question slides that are in CP (will call them the default Quiz slides) this will not be that easy. You will have to give a lot of attempts for the Quiz to the user to make this possible. There is no way to change the system variables that store the score (such as cpQuizInfoTotalProjectPoints). If you want to realize your workflow you need to construct the Question slides yourself. That is why I offered some articles I published about this subject in CP5.
You are not the first to ask for this kind of workflow, plan to work out an example but that will not be done today because of other priorities (some exams to be graded are waiting for me). The idea in steps is:
Create your question slides using non-interactive objects like text captions, images and interactive ones buttons, text entry or click boxes (that get a score); this will not be possible for all kind of Question types, dragging p.e. as for matching or sequence questions is not possible, hotspot is possible.
Be sure that all slides (to be reviewed before giving a second answer after an incorrect answer) are in the quizzing range (between first scored 'thing' and the score slide)
On incorrect answer, create an advanced action that jumps to the slide(s) to be reviewed; on finishing those slides have an action that returns them to the question slide.
On re-entering the question slide, re-initialize the score (to 0 if there is no 'penalty' because of the review) so that the user can answer again.
Is this the workflow that you want? Which kind of question slides are you using? Is there a 'penalty' if the review possibility is used, I mean is the score that can be obtained lower than the first one?

Captivate 4 - Go back a screen and Wrong answer wont pick up
Captivate 4 is driving me mad !
Got a large course in Cap 4, system training, theres various click area interactions.
If i preview the slides in Captivate or publish it i get the same bug...
I'm asked to click on a button, i click away and get the wrong answer feedback. All fine, i click on the button and i move to the next screen.
If i then click on back to go to the previous slide, if i try to click away to get the wrong answer it never comes up. The hotspot is there so if i click on the button which its over i can go forward. But for some reason the wrong answer feedback never appears a second time.
I've deleted it, added a new one, same as before, just W/A feedback, checked to 'infinite attempts' but it only seems to appear once. If i go back to the page and get the wrong answer nothing !
Got a major deadline coming up soon, dont expect this basic bug to be appearing, never had these problems in Cap 3.

In general, you must go forward to go backward when scoring. The <BACK button is not what I am referring to. Try an interim slide that is AFTER your scored interaction. It might provide a message like: Thank you for trying, but your answer was not correct on the first try. Click Continue to review that concept again... CONTINUE
The Continue button is the link back with the GoTo feature of the button.
You can also GoTo slides before the interaction to prep them.
I am not sure about this for interactions (it is true for Quizzes)... Use Must take Quiz to Continue should be enabled for Quizzes in the global settings.

Resetting Wrong Answers only in a Drag and Drop Interaction
Hello All,
What I would like to see in the interaction is -
Learner drags items to a specific location
clicks submit to check answers
only the wrong answers reset to the original screen location
feedback displays
Learner trys again and repeats until all items are in the correct location.
Is this scenario possible with the drag and drop? I can get everything but the "only the wrong answers reset" to work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

KelliNot possible. Same as for normal question slides: Reset will reset everything. You can have the wrong answers getting back immediately, but it will not wait for Submit in that case.

I have always wondered wht the Thunderbolt does not have an auto-answer option. I happen to be helping an employee with his Droid 3 (he upgraded from a basic phone) and noticed that it was a setting on that phone. I was hoping that with the all the updates that this phone has gotten (some that did not work out that well), that it would have been included in one of the updates. I am not complaining, but it would be nice to be able to answer a call (while in the car) and actually do it "handsfree". As of right now you have to press the button on your earpiece to answer a call if you are using a bluetooth earpiece.
I can give another use case for this. Right now, I work remotely for my company. To facilitate better communication, we keep an iPad at my old desk and I video conference in for most of the day. Its great because people can come up and chat iwth me or ask questions just like they normally would. When its meeting time, folks just grab the iPad and take me with them.
The biggest obstacle I have is getting on in the morning or getting back on when the network drops. I always have to have someone on hand to answer my call. If Skype for iPad had auto-answer, it would save me a lot of headaches, since I'd be able to call into the iPad at anytime without someone else around to answer.

On my numbers (v3.1) spreadsheet on Mac (Mavericks, iMac , OSX 10.9.1), 83177.2-78342.53 comes out 4834.66999999999. I'm pretty sure this is the wrong answer (there should be no repeating digit at the end. What gives?

this is a fact of compuing that there finite precision available. People write very sophisticated and expensive libraries for extrememly large and small numbers. At 11 decimal places you are past the believable, and reaonable, number of digits of precision.
the error of 4834.66999999999 vs 4834.67 is:
|4834.66999999999 - 4834.67| / 4834.67
this is: 2.068e-13 percent
I would suggest using the number of decimal places that are reasonable for your data and get something done rather than focusing on this detail. It is not a problem and, while I am not an Apple employee, based on my experince as an embedded developer, and Electrical Engineer, and based on my experience with Apple you can expect no change with regard to this.

Import Answer Options in Surveys

I am looking for a way to import answer options in surveys. I have to design a survey that one question has 742 possible answers in which they wish to select from a list. Currently, the only solution I have is to manually enter these.
Please reply if you have a way to import answer options to surveys.

The addition button is working, but i cant seem to make minus and multiply button work, they get wrong answer when i use them.. what could bee the problem with my codeSorry, but I don't see a simple fix in this code here (Hopefully I'm wrong and someone else will see this, but I don't) Because of this, I recommend that you fully scrap this code and start over from square one. I don't think that you really "see" your logic here. To help you see what you are trying to do, you need to separate your logic from your GUI. Try to build a non-gui calculator that works via simple console menu. Once you get this working, then use this code to create a GUI calculator.
