Wrong apple ID when updating apps on iphone 4s

I just got a replacement iphone 4s which I then updated to the new ios 7. Now I have several apps that need to be updated but it keeps asking for my password to an old apple id. I have no way of accessing the old id through email and my new id is signed in on both my computer as well as my iphone under the itunes store and icloud. I have tried signing in and out with no sucess and I have rebooted my phone. Not sure what to do next.

All apps are forever tied to the ID used to obtain them & can only be updated using that ID. If you can no longer use that ID to update them, then you'll have to delete them, then purchase them again using your new ID.
You could also contact iTunes support, explain the situation & request they add these apps to the download queue of your new ID.

  • Wrong Apple ID when Updating App in App Store

When I try to update some apps on my iPhone through the App Store, it's requesting the password for the wrong apple ID. The apple ID it is requesting the password for belongs to a family remember.
I tried the following suggested solution:
    1) Logout of App Store & iTunes
    2) Delete the app that is requesting credential for the wrong apple id when updating
    3) Go to App Store and reinstall the app using the correct apple ID
This solution only works temporarily. When in the future if the app has an update again, it's requesting the wrong apple id again.
I think one possible issue could be that I am syncing the iPhone to the same computer that of my family member.
*Please note, do NOT ask me to sync to another computer. This is not possible .All iOS devices in my family are manged, backed up, and sync on one computer.
*My iPhone is iPhone 4S running iOS 7
*Other iOS devices are iOS 8

You'e got a mess on your hands. Let's see if this helps.
First, that app, and possibly others that you might not have noticed, were downloaded with a different Apple ID that the rest of your apps. Of course, apps and other content are forever tied to the apple ID used to purchase or download them. You didn't say where you are deleting the app, but it sounds like you're doing so on the device, but not on the computer. If that's the case, when you sync with the computer, you may be replacing the app on the device with the other from a different Apple ID.
I would suggest deleting the app completely from ALL devices, including the computer. Be sure you are logged in with the Apple ID used to download all the other apps and get it again from the App store through iTunes on your computer. Then sync it back to all devices that use it.
In general, this can now mostly be avoided if all your devices run iOS 8. Read about Family Sharing: http://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/family-sharing/

  • Wrong Apple ID when updating apps.

I have a MacBook Pro that was purchased back in 2009. I recently had some issues with it, but had it taken in and the problems resolved. I noticed, though, that when I wanted to update some apps from the App Store, that the wrong Apple ID was automatically signed in, prompting me to fill in the password. I have only ever used my Apple ID, but the one that keeps popping up with App Store is one I never even heard of, one I have never used before. Is there anyway to change the Apple ID? I have feeling the email belongs to someone from the Apple Store where I got it fixed. (The email that pops up on the prompt is light colored gray and whenever I try to click on the Apple ID to delete it, it won't let me.) Below is a screenshot of the prompt I am referring to.

Delete those applications and then download them from your Apple ID.

  • IPad 2 asks for wrong apple ID when updating apps.

My Dad let a friend borrow my iPad for a couple days. A few days later I tried to update my apps, but it was asking for my dad's friend's email password. I don't know what he did but every single app that needs to update is now under his apple ID. (even the ones downloaded under my account) When I check what account the apps were downloaded from they say my email, but when I try to update it, I'm asked for his password. It's really fusturating, and I've seen a few discussions with this problem but It doesn't help.
I've already tried to sign out of iTunes and back in but it didn't work
Restarting the iPad did nothing either.
I'm using an iPad 2 with iOS 5.1.1
If someone could help me I would greatly appreciate it.

You're right... I don't understand and it is Weird... Because...
Any App or Download Obtained with a Particular Apple ID is Tied to that Apple ID.
    Try this...
Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of the Account... > Settings  >  Store  >  Apple ID  =  Sign Out.
Perform a Reset and try again.
Reset... No Data or Settings will be lost...
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

  • How can I get my iPhone to stop promting me to enter my wife's Apple ID when updating apps? I've checked settings for iTunes

How can I get my iPhone 6 to stop prompting me to enter my wife's Apple ID when updating apps? I have verified in settings that my acct is listed in itunes & App Store, as well as icloud. i can download new apps fine. Have shut down phone and re-powered, have tried plugging into my iMac while signed into my iTunes acct. Can't figure out what to do next?

Is the comp a synced device to your apple ID and approved as an active device for this synchronization?
Just cloud the sync once, activate the comp to your apple I'd in iTunes, ensure all software is up to date, turn on home sharing between the devices and you can reinstall the apps from the apple id purchase history via download.
You basically cleaned out the canonical data apple uses to validate all that, which was backup data. Like iOS devices have the purchased option on the App Store now, syncing the devices via the home sharing and properly activating them will give your comp the purchased cloud and free up 10gs of space on the precious solid states smaller drives.
    Hope that helps...
If you need to know the menu to find this info, let me know. But the info is easily accessible in the help menu.

Re-Downloading Paid Apps for Free only works if using the SAME Apple ID that made the Original Purchase.

  • When updating Apps on iphone, it tries to force log-in with old expired email address

A few months ago, I switched my iphone from an address that I was expiring to another more permanent address. There is no longer any reference to this old expired email address on my iphone. Additionally, I have been able to update my apps through the Apple store when the iphone is plugged into the PC... just fine. However, when I try to update my apps via the iphone (not plugged into the PC), the iPhone prompts for a login to the store--displaying the old expired email address (which is not editable in that prompt) and a field for me to enter the password for that expired email. I have checked all the settings on my iphone and I can't find where on the phone to change the email that is displayed in the password prompt. Could someone please tell me where I can change this? Thanks!
Also, software details: It's still using 3.1.3 software. I don't know if this 'password  issue' was common with that release or not, but I thought I'd mention it. (And please don't ask me to upgrade the software--as every time I tried to install a new software update (any update), the status bar barely moves 5% forward and then it permanently hangs.)

You can't chage this.  What's going on is that apps are permanently tied to the Apple ID used to purchase them, and all future updates will require you to enter the password associated with this ID, even if you are not currently using this ID for purchases.  The only way to stop the prompt for your older ID would be to delete these apps from your phone and your iTunes library and repurchase them using your current ID.

  • IPad mini Uses wrong Apple ID to update apps

Asks for password for another account. Have updated account settings, logged out and logged back in

It is asking for the password for the account that was originally used to purchase the App. Apps are tied to the purchase account and can't be transferred between accounts.
If you wish to eliminate this then delete the App and repurchase it under your correct Apple ID.

  • The wrong user name pops up when I try to update apps on Iphone. Unable to update or change incorrect user name.

The wrong user name pops up when I try to update apps on Iphone. Unable to update or change incorrect user name.

It is popping up because you have apps installed that you bought with the old AppleID, you can either delete those apps or buy the apps again using your new Apple ID, if they were free apps then not a big deal, paid apps obviously means you would have to buy them twice.

  • App store showing wrong apple id when trying to update but correct id in settings

App store is showing the wrong apple id when trying to do an update but correct id in settings. How do I fix?

I had the same problem. After syncing my phone, my husband's ID was popping up for app updates. Apparently they were downloaded through his account to begin with, so deleting them and redownloading fixed my problem.

  • Only when updating apps, my user ID is wrong  for iphone 4   How do I change it?

ONLY when updating apps on my iphone 4 is the user ID incorrect; all other areas list the correct user ID.  I have tried several things, but can't get it to let me change the user ID.  Help!

You must have purchased these apps under another ID. The only resolution, if you don't know the password to that ID, is to delete and re-download/purchase the apps. They are forever tied to the original ID and cannot be transferred.

  • Wrong Id when updating, Wrong Id when updating apps.

I have run into an extremely inconvenient and annoying bug. Whenever I attempt to update and app in the app store it asks for the wrong apple Id.
Luckily I know the password to the other ID but that is where the problem appears. I can easily update free apps, but when I try to update paid apps it says they were not purchased by that ID and I will need to purchase them again.
All apps were purchased under my default account, none under the account it is asking for.
When I go on iTunes and click more info it says it was purchased by the correct account.
I have reset my password, hard reset my device, synced my device, and signed out and signed back in as the correct account.
I have searched through at least 9 threads with this same problem and read every post on every thread and there was not a single answer, just more people experiencing the same problem.
Is there anybody at all that can offer some advice on how to fix this?

  • How do i change what apple id i want to use when updating apps?

When updating apps, it shows my boyfriends apple id (we share a plan and both just got 4S). Every thing else shows my apple id. I want to use my own accont to update apps. How do I get rid of his apple id on my phone?

    You cannot.
Apps will always be tied to the account from which they were purchased.  You will always have to update them using the same account.
