Wrong aspect ratio or size when exporting Pal anamorph with ProRes codec!

Hi community,
I have a problem exporting a spot in the right format. The customer/the upload service provider needs PAL anamorph 16:9 in ProRes codec.
When I export my FULLHD spot to these setting, the aspect ratio/the spot size turns out wrong. When opened in QT Pro the size is 720x576, what is correct, but the anamorph size quotet in brackets reads different values, for example 1020x576 but never 1024x576, what would be correct.
The service providers online software refuses to work with these wrong nunmbers...!?
The same export settings with QT Animation codec is correct. Also when exporting the same composition with two export modules, the Animation codec is OK, the ProRes codec is wrong. No matter whether I export a PAL-format comp or stretch it while exporting the FullHD comp.
Working with After Effects CC.
Any ideas?

Don't resize the output but instead drop your full HD comp in a standard PAL widescreen comp, fit the HD comp horizontally and then render the new comp without using any resize controls.
Second option, Render your full HD comp to a frame based production master codec (prorez) and then use the Adobe Media Encoder and setup a PAL Widescreen Square Pixel preset. Here's my Pal Widescreen Prorez 422 HQ preset. It is what I use for all requests for Pal ProRez from my clients.

  • Wrong aspect ratio when importing photos

I have done different movies (16:9 format), never had any problems. Since yesterday, I am not able anymore to integrate photos in the right aspect ratio. In the preview they appear with the right ratio. When I integrate them and the rendering starts, they first get back to a 4:3 format with black frame on left and right side (during the rendering process) and then get teared to wide (like a doubled 16:9).
Does anybody know why?? I have nowhere read anything about this problem...:-( Thanks!

Yes, this seems to be a problem with Mac OS X 10.5 (or maybe some QT version) and 16:9 (PAL and NTSC) SD projects. 4:3 projects are OK.
But I prefer to use Photo To Movie to compose iMovie slideshows anyway because its quality is and has been better.

  • Wrong aspect ratio in Survey view

I selected 3 photos and went to the Survey view. Of these photos, 2 were full frame, and 1 was cropped so it has a wider aspect ratio than the full-frame pictures. Survey view showed all 3 the same size, so the cropped one was stretched vertically and looked horrible. What's up with that?
...Lightroom 1.1 on Mac OS X.

Thanks for the suggestion. That's a good tip to keep in my back pocket.
I don't think this is what happened here though -- the preview image looks correct at all other views in Library mode (grid thumbnail, loupe view, and compare view are all correct; it's only screwed up in survey view). No amount of switching between views, or invoking Library->Preview->Render (1:1 or standard or telling it to discard and rerender) fixes the one in survey.
It also turns out this is reproducible on demand, if I go from survey view on an uncropped photo straight to develop, crop, and return to survey: if I select 3 images, hit N to enter survey mode, click one of the images, hit R to go to Develop and enter crop mode, crop the image, hit E to return to Library, hit N to go back to Survey... the photo I just cropped has the wrong aspect ratio.
If I quit Lightroom and reinvoke it, that corrects the bogus shape of the image in Survey view. I haven't yet found any other way to correct the shape.
As an added bonus, if I go back and forth between Survey and Crop (using R from the Survey page), Lightroom will pretty quicly get in a state where it's stuck in Library and any attempt to go to Develop will say "unable to switch modules", and I have to quit and restart Lr before I can use Develop.

  • Wrong aspect ratio on HDTV

I recently purchased an ATV and bought "Shooter" from iTunes. I realize that HD won't be available until the new software update. The picture looks fine when I watch it on my Mac, but after I synched it onto my ATV, it comes out in the wrong aspect ratio. I did not find anything to change in the settings and my TV alerts me that it is a problem with the source. How do I correct this? All the faces look long when I try to watch the movie with ATV.
Also, if I am using the optical out to my receiver, shouldn't the signal output be in DD 5.1? I'm only able to achieve Dolby Surround (3 ch.). I don't have this audio problem with XBOX, Wii, or my DVD player so I know it's not the receiver.

first problem - what setting is your TV set to ? looks like your TV is changing the ratio (rather than the appletv). the appletv will only every play it as the movie file dictates. also check that the appletv is set to 720p HD or 1080i HD (ie not 480p)
second problem - is the movie you download actually 5.1 in the first place? i don't think many of the SD films are 5.1. i think it's only the HD rentals that are 5.1 (and those are not available yet)

  • Wrong aspect ratio with ProRes capture

Capturing tape from a panasonic DVX100A shot 24pAdvanced squeeze. When I capture with the DV/DVCPRO codec (using the anamorphic setting) the footage comes in the correct aspect ratio in the project, and the quicktme clip in the finder is the correct aspect ratio also (16:9). However if I capture with the same NTSC anamorphic setting in the ProRes 422 codec, the clip is the correct aspect ratio in the project, but the quicktime file in the finder still has a squeezed look. I understand that the ProRes codec is much better quality, but it is very inconvenient to have all the quicktime files the wrong aspect ratio. This footage will be shared among many projects, and it could be a problem going forward. Any way to get the ProRes codec to create the quicktime file with the correct aspect ratio?
    Thanks.

For anyone following the thread, I found this forum from Ken Stone, with a couple folks (including Ken) saying that the DVCPro codec is basically indistiguishable from ProRes. So I will be using that codec on these tapes.
"Before ProRes came alomg, many people transcoded to DVCPRO HD (and DVCPRO 50), from Interframe, long GOP formats and other formats as well.  DVCPRO HD is 4:2:2, Intra frame with a bandwidth of 100 Mbits, excellent. The only difference between DVCPRO HD and ProRes is that ProRes is 10 bit and DVCPRO HD is 8 bit, but ProRes has a higher bandwidth of 144 and 220 Mbits (HQ).
Now we have ProRes which is an excellent alternative for HDV and XDCAM EX, etc. Everytime we transcode to a different codec we do lose something, so I would think that because these two formats are so very close I would stay in DVCPRO HD and not 'lose' any quality by transcoding to ProRes.
For me, FCP has always loved DVCPRO HD and runs it like a dream.
    My 2 cents.

  • Wrong aspect ratio for imported widescreen videos

When I import some videos (home made) they show up as the wrong aspect ratio. For example, the latest one is 1026x576 in the folder, which is correct, but shows up as 1456x576 which is too wide. How can I prevent this? Incidentally, I have checked the file in itunes folder using quicktime, and it is correctly sized at 1026 wide. Strangely, itunes thinks it's wider. Also, this is a problem I have found in previous versions of itunes. Phil

Hi, it's very strange. When I get time I will try different settings on Handbrake to see if there is any improvement. However I have even had this problem when outputting from fce. It seems to be a bug in iTunes. At least I'm not alone in experiencing the problem. Regards Phil

The screenshots aspect ratio is fine on the iPhone (and the picture is good if I transfer it to my MacBook) , but is displayed incorrectly when airplayed to the AppleTV.
The AppleTV is attached to a 24'' screen, all the other stuff from AppleTV (menu, home page, films from internet and so on) are displayed correctly).

  • Reduce Doc Size When Exporting

Is there a way to reduce a page size when exporting from InDesign? I have a 20 x 30 poster want to export at 50% and make the pdf @ 10 x 15. Thanks.

by print to pdf do U mean make a ps file instead of exporting, correct?
Well, here's the thing... the orig question was a generalization of what we are trying to do.
The actual file is 19 pgs of panels that are 20 x 30. We need to make pdfs for the client to look at on screen. The file is huge when we try to make pdfs by exporting... even at the smallest file size and then reduce file in Acrobat. We found that reducing the doc size & making pdf yields a much smaller and more manageable file size, but it takes very long to postscript. We were just trying to avoid that step. Thought for sure the was a way to reduce the output size when exporting.

  • I am using Lightroom on my MAC where I import the finalized JPEG-pictures into iPhoto to create a slideshow (for instance in combination with films). When exporting the slideshow with a 1080p resolution to iTunes I experience difficulties (missing slides

I am using Lightroom on my MAC where I import the finalized JPEG-pictures into iPhoto to create a slideshow (for instance in combination with films). When exporting the slideshow with a 1080p resolution to iTunes I experience difficulties (missing slides and black transitions). When using JPEG-pictures directly from the camera there are no problems, so the manipulation in Lightroom seem to cause corrupt files. Does anyone recognize tje problem and could it have anything to do with the introduction of the Yosemite software? Is Lightroom already Yosemite-proof?

In iPhoto 11 the Originals folder is renamed Masters.
IPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback and report the bug.

getting red frames when export from cc 2014.2 codec used panasonic mxf format long GOP 50p. If any solution please help on that

i solve my red frame problem. originally my project was done in premiere pro cc 2014.2 & i render in Encoder cc 2014. in newer version i get lots of red frames. i complain a lot to adobe customer support . they said they know the issues but they couldn't solve. I was so tired from adobe customer support. one of the worse customer services i had. My friend got the mac pro & e got premiere pro cc 7.2 version. i convert all my footage mxf to mp4 in encoder cc 7.2 version and i succeed. i don't get any red frames.
So i think the problem is in adobe encoder cc 2014.2 version. newer version.

  • Having troubles with aspect and size when exporting to CD

I would like to export my pics to a CD so i can send them out to be printed in a lab. I'm confused with the aspect ratio when I crop them i know I have to lock the aspect but should I keep it on Original? Also i'm wondering when it comes to export them what size should I be placing if I want to print all sizes. like some 8x10 and some 4x6 and so on. I'm working with Lightroom 3. Thanks in advance : )

I'm confused with the aspect ratio when I crop them i know I have to lock the aspect but should I keep it on Original? Also i'm wondering when it comes to export them what size should I be placing if I want to print all sizes.
The crop aspect lock only comes into play while you are actively resizing the crop boundary. LR always works in a freehand manner, except that if the ratio is locked, adjusting the crop frame is allowed to alter its size and location and angle - but not its shape. If the ratio is not locked, you will be changing the crop shape freely if/when you drag the corner or edge handles around. The rest of the time, the lock makes no difference; and it is just as possible BTW to lock a random freehand aspect ratio, as it is to lock one of the standard preset ones.
If you are uploading an exported copy for printing, you could simply upload a JPG made at the original resolution (as cropped for composition and angle) - that is, unchecking the whole resizing section of the Export dialog - and give the printer instructions as to how large the various prints are to be. Or I suppose, you could resize to the largest of the sizes that you require, but you will then need to negotiate a pixels-per-inch "resolution" setting that will be appropriate - since, when resizing to a page size, this figure governs the pixel content of the file produced.
I would suggest that in the case of an export without resizing, where a generous quantity of pixels are included for the sorts of page sizes mentioned, you will likely not see any discernible printed benefit from setting the highest JPG quality setting for your export, but will be fine with around quality 6 to 8 - which brings the file sizes down significantly. Most often, printing services will presume that you have selected sRGB colourspace for your export, unless something different has been pre-agreed.

  • Wrong size when exporting to jpg

    Hello everyone,
I'm new to Illustrator, would really appreciate all the help and tips
I'm trying to create a wallpaper of certains size. I'm creating an artboard with dimentions 1024px by 768 px, all is fine. However, then I export my artwork into jpeg using File -> Export option. I'm getting a file which is 4267px by 3200px. I don't know what I'm doing wrong and it's very frustrating! Would really appreciate any help.
I'm exporting with the following settings:
    Quality: 10
    Color Model: CMYK
    Method: Baseline (Standard)
    Resolution Depth: High
Options: Anti-Alias and Embed ICC Profile are ticked.

Another question along the lines. Is it better to create a file with the 72 PPI from the beginning or to change it when exporting to jpeg?
Illustrator files have no resolution, as measured in PPI, until the art is rasterized. This means that the only time you can make the art 72 ppi is when you export to JPG. The exceptions would be anything that is rasterized (Object > Rasterize) or any raster effect such as Drop Shadow, any Glow effects, or anything below the fold in the Effect menu. Effects are rasterized according to Effect > Document Raster Effects Settings.
I often find Photoshop does a better job rasterizing than Illustrator. You can open the AI file in Photoshop and rasterize at any resolution, then resample to 72 ppi. I suggest using 288 ppi, which is exactly four time 72 ppi, then either resample or use Save for Web and Devices and scale to 25%.

  • Export Problem: imovie 06 - HD project to Quick Time in wrong aspect ratio

When I export a project from imovie 06 that is in HD 16x9 aspect ratio, (simple export using "High Quality") the resultant QT movie is not in the correct aspect ratio - it's in "regular TV" format.
Is there a simple fix for this?

did you ever find a solution? i have the same problem....

  • Text squeezing to wrong aspect ratio in PAL D1 Anamorphic project

For some reason when I have been typing text into a PAL D1 Ana'phic project the text looks squashed, when it should look normal.
Rather annoyingly it is my client who has noticed this after I have spent 2-3 days on a whole load of text graphics (18 projects)
Curiuously, I have just started a new project and the text behaves correctly.
Does anyone know why the problem may be occurring? The only other elements in the projects are red boxes created using the Motion Rectangle tool.
My only quick workaround is to go back into all the projects and change the 'x' scale of the text.
    Any advice mucho appreciated.

This may be slightly off subject, but I almost always have to go to the distort aspect ratio (in FCP) and correct it for Motion 3 elements, whether they are files or renders. It is true of various project settings and both video and stills, both HD and DV. Usuallly there is a 33% distoriton and I simply adjust to 0%, render the timeline and all is well. I've seen this referred to a few times - is it a bug?
