Wrong CD Title and Tracks

When I insert a particular CD into my laptop, it shows up on my desktop and in my iTunes library with an incorrect title and track names.
It's a bootleg I'm trying to import, so has no Gracenote relevance, and is erroneously titled after an trumpet audition CD my son made which is also in my iTunes library.
Any ideas why a completely foreign CD inserted into my MacBook would conjure up an irrelevant title and tracks?
Thanks,
John

MaxaMillion,
Thanks for the clarification - it looks like we are working on the same problem, after all. Many people believe seeing the generic -"track 1" - "track 2" - titles on a CD indicates some kind of failure by iTunes, so when I read your post, I (mistakenly) thought you were confusing that "problem" with the not-generic-but-not-correct-title-problem already under discussion in this thread. I apologize for any misunderstanding on my part
Like you, I believe the problem is probably a corrupt "CD Info.cidb" file.
And like you, I am trying to understand how this process works. However, we seem to understand the process - differently.
You say:
"The CD burner is supposed to burn that info onto the disk itself so it can be read correctly in other computers."
That is contradicted in the Apple article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93952 which says:
"The CD and track names are not burned anywhere onto the CD itself."
Yet, you also say you were able to burn a CD which: "Played in other computers and everything was ok." - Which I interpret to mean you burned a CD on computer A which had a track named "xyz", then put the CD in computer B which correctly showed the track as "xyz" - is that correct???
. . . so I am trying to reconcile these contradictory statements - you seem to have succeeded in doing something which Apple (and many others posting to these discussions say is not possible.
I believe I may have an explanation for your apparent success. The method you used to make the CD - that is, using the Finder and NOT iTunes - makes a DATA disc - not an AUDIO CD.
If you selected an .mp3 file - and it was still an .mp3 file on the new CD, that would be significant - and would prove my theory. Standard audio CDs always have only type of files on them - .aiff.
If you had used iTunes to burn the CD, then iTunes would have converted the mp3 file to the .aiff format in the burning process, and the finished CD would conform to the audio standard (which your data disc does not). When Apple says: "The CD and track names are not burned anywhere onto the CD itself" - they are talking about audio CDs, not data CDs.
Data discs do have the track names burned to the disc and those track titles can be read by any computer - but the files cannot be read by many older audio units - like the one in your car or home stereo system (if it does not say "MP3 Compatable" on the front of the deck, I doubt if your data CD will play).
Does this make sense?

  • ITunes CDs -not title or track info is on cd

I can create CDs from iTunes but can't find why iTunes doesn't also save the title and track info on the burned CDS. I wanted to create a CD backup of my iTunes but now have CDs with unknown titles and unknow tracks

I suppose you are burning AudioCDs: Track information are simply not part of CDDA definitions.
I order to backup your audio tracks without loosing any information switch iTunes burning preferences to DATA CD/DVD.

  • When importing a CD, the CD Lookup Results dialogue box came up and I choose the wrong CD title.  Now iTunes is importing a different song list than the one on my CD.  How can I retrieve the CD Lookup Results to choose the correct title?

When importing a CD, the "CD Lookup Results" dialogue box came up and I choose the wrong CD title.  Now iTunes is wanting to import a different song list than the one on my CD.  I've shut down my computer and opened iTunes from the hard drive Program Files and tried to import the CD again with the same problem.  How can I retrieve the "CD Looup Results" diaglogue box to choose the correct CD title to fit the song list on my original CD?

You might also be able to do it without importing the songs again I think. Just highlight the tracks, right click them and choose "Get Track Names". This feature only works on CDs that were imported via iTunes.

After loading the new OS my songs do not play correctly, is anyone else having this issue? Titles are wrong on songs and it just doesn’t play certain songs in random play or even if you select them individually. What’s up? Kind of frustrating!!!

I had the same issue.  In fact I posted it yesterday, but didn't get any replies.  I physically synched my phone to PC iTunes.  on the PC, under the phone/music tab, I unchecked the synch music box and then the apply button to remove all of the music from my phone.  Then once that synch finished, I went back and selected all music, and synch music and apply to put it back on to the phone.  So far, I haven't had an issue again, but I also haven't listened very long.  Hope this helps!

  • Wrong CD and track identification (11.1.3, OS X 10.7.5)

This is kinda funny, but rather disturbing. I recorded a live audio performance on a Tascam CD-RW901SL CD recorder. Normally those CDs display in iTunes as "Audio CD" with files named "1 Audio Track", "2 Audio Track", etc., which is reasonable. Windows Explorer on XP shows this CD name as "Audio CD", and the single track is named "Track01.cda". That's accurate.
When I put this one into my MacBook Pro running 10.7.5 and iTunes 11.1.3, the most amazing misidentification and file system screwup occurs: The CD is named "The Evidence for Christianity", the track is named "1 Evidence For Jesus As Christ", and the artist is listed as "Dr Mike Ladra"! If it were iTunes alone I could chalk it up to over-exuberant matching algorithms, but what really slays me is that Terminal displays the CD name also as "The Evidence for Christianity" and the track name as "1 Evidence For Jesus As Christ.aiff", which is simply not true. If I can't trust Terminal to show me correct information, what's left? Terminal should always display what's really there. Period. End of story.
Mind boggling. Have I missed something? Is there a solution to this problem? I just want to see accurate media information.
I'm all for Gracenote integration and the ease it brings, but there has to be an easy way in ito say "this ID is wrong, use disc information" without manually deleting every misidentified field. And for darned sure, file system information should not be affected at all, unless I choose to import the CD, in which case iTunes is welcome to change CD and track name at will--except that I should be given the option to reject the ID and use file system data. Note the only ID change possible is when multiple IDs are found in Gracenote. You can pick one, but not reject them all.
    Abe

the most amazing misidentification and file system screwup occurs:
    Abe,
Gracenote attempts to identify CDs based on the pattern of tracks and times.  The hardest thing for its algorithm is single-track CDs, and that is where you can get some "amazing" howlers.
If you want to be a good citizen, correct the track info in your display via Get Info, and with the CD still in the drive, use the iTunes command Submit Track Names.  That will send correct info to Gracenote.

  • Track V2 titles and slugs jump.  (Things that go bump in my sight)

Often when the scrubber bar in Timeline passes across a still on Track V1 and then crosses the, say, title, on Track V2 directly above it, there is a very slight put perceptible jump. I have eliminated this by stretching the title on Track V2 so that both ends of it are parallel to the ends of the picture on Track V2. Then I adjust the opacity on V2 so that the title does not appear until I want it to.
    1) This seems like a cumbersome and unnecessary step.
    And, separate but related:
    2) If the item on V2 is a slug, the dots made by the Pen tool are invisible. If I select the slug, it turns white, and I still cannot see the dots. I am working completely blind. (Perhaps I should run for public office.)
The fruits of your wisdom would be gratefully received.

    Here I am.
Sorry for not responding earlier, but my family seems to think I should spend some time with them instead of being continually buried in Final Cut Express. How selfish can people be?
Firstly, thank you Tom, for the offer. I felt as tho Rembrandt was asking me to send him some of my preliminary sketches. I really appreciate your kindness.
I went through my video, Tom, looking for the problem I outlined so that I could send you an identifiable faulty clip - and could not find one! I now believe that your, Tom, and MFW's, surmise is a correct one, for I remember rendering a number of clips after my post and before my absence. It seems very likely that the clips I originally complained about were not properly rendered, though I admit I don't know how that happened. Heaven knows I seem to spend a lot of time rendering.
No, I did not notice a green - or indeed any color - strip above my clips. In fact, I can not recite what the colors mean, so I must fill that gap in my knowledge. (Which will still leave a lot of gaps.)
I will keep a close eye on my work, and if the problem occurs again, I shall look for the green strip and try rendering to see if that solves the problem. If it does not, I will post again.
Thank you for all the good detective work, Tom and MDW. Your generosity with your time and expertise is greatly appreciated.

  • When I share video to my macbook it cuts off opening titles and starts vid a few seconds in.  I have tried making titles part of timeline, not appending them, but it does the same either way.  Any advice on how to get it to include opening titles?

I'm having trouble getting FCPX to share my entire video, it cuts off the opening titles and starts a few seconds in when I share to my MacBook.  It's my first vid so I've done a few daft things like editing the audio after I put the visual together, so had to detach it and re-attach it.  Is this the possible root of my problems?

    Hi Tom
Version 10.0.5 FCPX.  Can't send screenshot at present.  However on all three versions of the video I have in Projects there is a shaded area on the left at the start.  Shaded from top to bottom over the credits and sometimes over the first two or three seconds, this extends to the left and fills the project box before the 00.00 counter and the timeline starts. This only appears when I expand the timeline so I can see the clips I've attached.  It's not visible if I just have the timeline and no clips or audio showing.   I think it corresponds to the part the export is cutting off. I'm self-taught from tutorials and handbook and it's all new to me, no editing experience prior to the last two weeks.
Couldn't upload to Youtube at all, though it did go to Facebook, but with two audio tracks playing, so export is proving a bit tricky. Also after attempting to share two different versions of the vid an icon has now appeared beside it's name in my Projects next to these two versions showing an audio sign and triangle with exclamation mark.  Another version of the vid has the same icon and freezes the computer when I try to open it and is just a black space where the timeline should be.  I can't even Move To Trash.  I think there may be an audio problem: the main timeline footage should have had audio but was silent, probably a mistake made when it was shot.  So I synched audio.  However, I think there is audio on the main footage but just unavailable to me.  Could be this is messing it up?  I'm clearly doing something wrong!  Also as mentioned, edited the audio after I'd synched it, so had to detach the synched audio and re-attach an edited version.  Could be I went wrong there.  I just highlighted, deleted and attached the new audio.
Might download an unexpanded version and see if anything's different.  Failing that may go back to scratch, synch edited audio and try again and just not put on start credits.  However, could it just be a bug in the software?  Would re-installing help?
    Appreciate your help.
    Thanks.

  • APE4  Title and Text Animation

I am trying to animate some multi line titles.  I found that the animation, Scalein, only works on a single line of text. Is this correct or am I doing something wrong.  The animation worked on a singel line but not on a multi line title.
    Thanks.
    Cheers!  Phil

For working with multiple lines of text and animation, you can create several Titles, each with one line of text. These would be stacked above any footage on higher Video Tracks (VT's). Each single line can then be animated with the same, or different Effects.
Depending on what one needs and wants, another way would be to do the Title with a block (multiple lines) of text, and then Keyframe, say Motion>Position for that Title. An example would be to have the Title begin off-screen and then "move" into the scene from the right, with Moton>Position Keyframes, hold for a period of time, then move out of the screen left, again with Motion>Position Keyframes. You will probably have to grab the right side of the Title and drag it to get the desired Duration.

  • Key board and track pad not working

Ok, My situation is similar to some of the other things posted but not quite.
I tried to wake my computer up from sleep the other day and it wouldn't "wake up" so I did a hard shut down and restart. When it restarted the key board and track pad did not work. The caps lock light wouldn't come on or anything. I tried connecting a usb apple keyboard and mouse and those didn't work either.
When switching to windows in bootcamp, everything works. So... I guess that means it's a software thing.
I called Apple support and we did all the possible key combinations and restarts possible and it came down to this: I need to archive install tiger again, then install all of the updates, then install leopard back on (I don't have leopard disk because it was a family pack and im at college). My roomate's macbook (White, bought in aug 2008) install disks which are 10.5.2 do not work with my computer.
My question is: Is this really the correct solution to my problem? Will archiving and installing tiger then leopard affect my files? I haven't backed up using time machine in a month, so is there a way to backup through osx with my keyboard and trackpad not working or can I do a good back up through my windows partition in bootcamp? Any more tips? Thanks, this has never happened before and I guess I'm a little clueless.

Do you have access to another Mac? If so, possibly you could use Firewire Target Disk Mode to access your drive and do a current Time Machine backup:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Since you have a family pack of Leopard at home, possibly you could have someone burn a safety copy of it and send it to you so that you can reinstall Leopard. Once you have the OS installed and brought up to date, you could even restore from Time Machine if you had to.
Since we don't know all the steps you took, it's hard for any of us to say if this is the right solution. Evidently the Apple tech came to the conclusion that your software had become corrupted, and this could well be the case, since everything works on the Windows partition. Hence the suggestion to reinstall the OS.
I think you need to get a copy of the Leopard disc so that you can bring your OS completely up to date. I'm not sure of the logistics of doing an Archive and Install with both Tiger and Leopard, especially if much of your work has been done on Leopard. I'm not even sure if it's necessary to reinstall Tiger--it might be better to just reinstall Leopard using Archive and Install.
It's always a good idea to have a good up to date backup like Time Machine before attempting an Archive and Install, because things can go wrong. If they do, you may end up having to do an erase and install. If that happens, you can restore from your Time Machine backup.
I think what you should do is to get a copy of your Leopard disc, and then boot from it and try to do the Archive and Install. Navigate to Disk Utility first and verify both permissions and the disk and repair if necessary. Then proceed with the Archive and Install. Once you're done, run all the updates. Then go to Disk Utility and repair permissions.
    Good luck!

THE use of the apple support is a mess also.
I want to be able to use my MAC fully and easily like I used to with Snow Leopard.
What is wrong with this maverick OS?

The only people who can possibly assist you with this is Apple Customer Relations, call your local Apple contact number and ask for Customer Relations then explain your situation clearly and politely (be firm but don't rant).
You might want to investiage what the local laws are regarding defective goods and 'fit for use' definitions on warranties etc. Consumer Protection can be a useful tool to use or bargain with if needed ...

  • Title and description when sharing a blog post in Facebook

I want to get the title and a piece of description of my blog post when sharing on Facebook and not just a url with no text...

Problem is Matt that this is one of the things the Engineering team are just putting off and having the new web app engine and concept of "Build your own blog" to fix the issues is what is currently being run.
I know I am not the only one not happy with this approach but it is a running trend when reporting issues like with the gallery module not working right.
I am also not a fan of the current operations of bug reports where even it if it a game breaker if you try to use something because it does not work, if you the first or only one or a rare few to notice it and tell them, even in detail it wont get fixed as you know.
You have to wait for a public issue as more people realise it or a beta bug to have people moan about it live to then get fixed. But it makes BC look bad and unless your one of the few partners with a bit of clout with BC it wont get addressed unless a big enough stink is made of it.
I do not know many software developers who run this old approach and from a support stand point, while I know you cant agree or disagree with me on any of this it causes you guys a nightmare.
YOu have issues reproted, you confirm them, they stop someone doing something they need for them or their clients and push and moan at you and its with the engineers and nothing you can do other then up vote it over and over till they finally get round to fix it.
Bug fixing is one of the key things I think thats harming BC right now over new features, tags wrong, math calculation wrong, bugs preventing certain features not being useable for years...
And then new features launched with bugs on top!

  • How to do Title and Paragraph Side-by-side?

I'd like to switch from Word to Pages, but I need to figure out how to format a title and/or a subtitle such that it sits to the left of a paragraph (horizontally even) rather than above it. In Word, I would put the Headings/subheadings into a text box and then move it to the left of the body text paragraph. Because the text box could be anchored to the paragraph, it would move with it during the editing process.
While Pages has the ability to do a text box, they behave quite differently than they do in Word. Pages text boxes are designed more like those in PageMaker, where they are used more to place and flow text. To put it more simply, Pages text boxes will not move with the body text of the paragraph. If the paragraph moves, due to editing, the text box stays put and has to be moved manually.
Any ideas how to accomplish this in Pages?
    Thanks in Advance.

This tells me that he want to use an Inline object.
I perfectly understood the first question but the screenshot poster later was not responding to the original so I assumed that like G-W B. the OP changed his mind (as I wrote, maybe I was wrong).
I couldn't get and inline object to reside outside the text margin. Were you able to?
    Definitely NO.
With inline objectsI'm unable to do better that that:
I found no way to introduce the vertical indent which would solve the problem.

  • Lost Titles and Keywords during Importation from older Mac

I have a brand new MacBook. The Apple store where I bought it transferred all my files from my old iBook G4 to the new machine. BUT . . . most of the 3000 photos in my old iPhoto (Vers. 5.0.4) file omitted all of the keywords and most of the titles during the transfer to iPhoto (Vers. 6.0.6). I think the shop used Migration Assistant for the transfer.
I have tried 4 times to re-transfer, using Apples recommended method of "Import to Library . . ." using a firewire connection. But I have no better luck than did the Apple shop: most titles and all keywords missing.
The importation also gave me something that I really don't want: The Original of every photo that I ever modified in the past now shows up in the Library. I guess it is important to have the originals stored somewhere, but why aren't they in a hidden file somewhere -- not right up there demanding attention every time I use iPhoto?
I've been a Mac user since the beginning of time, but am now wondering (especially in view of the thousands of questions from other users as bewildered as I) if Apple hasn't gotten themselves into the category of "If you are smart enough to do it, you are too smart to try it". Should I just forget iPhoto, and put all of my photos into folders of my own creation, and manually copy all titles and keywords from my old Mac while I still have access to it?
Thanks in advance for your advice and suggestions.

First off, there is no part of this process that involves using the 'import to library' function. If you want to do this, you'll be creating a new library and will lose your titles and keywords.
The job is to get the iPhoto Library Folder from the old machine to the new machine.
When you applied BatchMod, did you tick the box to apply to enclosed folders?
Assuming that you did, then we're into file management issues. The usual things that prevent copying are File Permissions (and you've sorted that) or a damaged file.
We'll try an copy the library over piecemeal, and see if we can track down the errant file. This is tricky, as we need to recreate the library exactly or the library won't work.
On the New Machine Create a Folder in the Pictures Folder and call it iPhoto Library Folder.
From the old Library, copy all the ancillary files - just the files, anything not in a folder.
If they work, start moving through your Year Folders. If one doesn't copy, leave it and go on to the next one.
Then, repeat the process until you discover the problem file(s) or folder(s) - it'll be one that won't copy.
Remember, it is vital to make an exact copy of the iPhoto Library Folder on the new machine.
Post back when you've got this done.
    Regards
    TD

  • Rename Track Titles from Track 1, Track 2, Track 3, ... to 1a, 1b, 1b

I have an audiobooks album let say 7 Disc.
    I want to rename the track titles (ID3) track names from Track 1, Track 2, Track 3, to 1a, 1b, 1c,...., Disc 2->2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, ..., Disc 3->3a, 3b, 3c, 3d...
I am not interested in using Get Info to manually change the Track name. Is there some type of Itunes Add on for Itunes Windows or some alternative program to rename the Track names.
I found program call reNamer and Magic File Renamer 6.12. They rename the file name not the track name.

I forgot I had this tool -- it's something I wrote before I made the audiobook helper I already linked to you in my last message.
This program reads the track number and disc number from the ID3 tag and renames the track name exactly as you want (1a, 1b, 1c ... 2a, 2b, 2c... etc.).
So, select the tracks in iTunes you want to rename, then run the EXE. I've included the perl source code in the zip. If you have perl installed you can run it directly; otherwise view it in a text editor.
I'm hosting this on my "old" google site because I've run out of space on my normal homepage:
