Wrong Com Port order with PXI - 8422 in a Win2k system

While using my PXI-8422 on WinNT4.0 and NI serial driver ver 1.44 Ports were assigned com numbers top to down. ie Port1-COM1 , Port2-COM2 , ...
However on win2k and NI serial driver ver 1.45 ports were assigned com numbers in the reverse order. ie Port1-COM4 , Port2-Com3 ,...
And when i try to change com assignments the sytem hangs while trying to access the ports.
Any idea how to solve it?

Topcu,
We have seen the reverse order behavior before for serial devices in Windows 2000.
The first thing is to make sure that you tried to change the com assignments properly. If you only tried to change them in Measurement and Automation Explorer, it may not work. Here is the proper way:
1. Select Start>Settings>Control Panel and double-click on the
System icon.
2. Click on the Hardware tab and click on the Device Manager button.
3. Double-click on the Ports (COM & LPT) icon.
4. Double-click on the port you want to configure.
5. Click on the Port Settings tab.
6. Click on the Advanced button. The Advanced Settings dialog box
should pop up.
7. Change the COM number in the COM Port Number field. (You can
use a COM number that is designated as in
use, as long as no hardware
is actually using that COM number.)
If this is how you tried to reassign your ports and your system still hangs, please go to www.ni.com/support and click on Request Support in the black panel to let us know.

  • COM-port problem with MSI BToes USB Dongle

I´ve had problem to get my Sony Ericsson T610 to work with my MSI BToes USB Dongle, so I tried to update my drivers. Now I have Microstar Bluetooth Software 1.4.2 build 10 but can´t get my Serial Port service to work. In Advanced configuration / Client Applications under "Bluetooth Serial Port" / "Properties", the only serial port I can choose is com0. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
    /Peter

Well, I think i´ve solved the problem. To get the com-ports to work I installed the software. Then I had a problem to get the phone to communicate with Sony Ericssons synk-software and outlook, but suddenly it worked and has worked since then. I have no idea what the problem was but now it works and I´m satisfied.

  • Wrong remote port number with TCP listener

    Hi
I am sending data from a dsp with a network card over TCP/IP to my pc running labview7express. The data is received correctly, I use a 'TCP create listener' followed by a 'TCP wait on listener' to establish the connection, followed by a while loop with 'TCP read' in it.
The port returned by 'TCP create listener' is correct (1001), but somehow 'TCP wait on listener' returns 57345 as remote port!?
Also when using another port eg 1003 it still returns 57345..
Anyone knows how this erroneous portnumber is achieved?

Nothing wrong with that. A TCP/IP connection has ALWAYS two connection
ends with each of them using a port number. 1001 is the port of the
local listen socket (which needs to be fixed so that clients can connect
    to a know
n server) in your LabVIEW application. 57345 is the port number
used by your software running on your DSP board. A client usually has no
fixed port number but allocates any port number not already in use. When
the listen socket receives a connection request it connects and passes
the connection with the local port 1001 and the remote port 57345
through TCP Wait On Listener to your application. Since you set up the
Listen Socket in Create Listener you already know its port number so TCP
Wait on Listener does only return the port number of the remote
    connection end of your connection.

  • Com port failed with boot camp and snow leopard - Please help!

Hi. I have been a very happy leopard and macbook user for the last couple of years. This week I upgraded to a macbook pro with OS X 10.6 snow leopard. I set up boot camp with Windows XP SP3as I have a couple of windows only applications that I need to use and they both need serial port. I had a Keyspan USA 19-QW serial adaptor that worked fine with Leopard and my old macbook. I installed the driver that came with the Keyspan adaptor. Now when I plug the adaptor into the USB slot it finds new hardware and says it is ready to use and the adaptor is listed in my ports as being on COM3 in device manager in windows but when I try to run the programs I get the message 'the selected port could not be opened. Either the port is in use by another application, or the port doesn't exist'. I'd be very grateful for any advice you can give me to solve this problem. Do I need to buy a new adaptor? Is this a settings or driver issue? I'm a user and not a techie person so please can you leave me easy step by step help. Many thanks. Karen

And was wodering if snow Leopard is pré installed
    Yes.
And also which disc that came with thé machine has boot camp on it
None. Windows is a separate purchase.
i havé read that to install windows7 you need to pût thé snow leopard disc in to complete thé installation
That refers to the Boot Camp drivers for Windows, not Windows itself.

  • PC Suite with Nokia 5700 uses two COM ports?

I am using Nokia PC Suite 6.84 with a Nokia 5700. The phone is connected to the laptop via a USB cable. I have installed the software on two separate laptops, one running XP with Service Pack 2, another running Vista.
Whenever I plug-in the phone, I see two COM ports associated with it. The first COM port shows up in Window’s device manager as COM port 6 (see attached JPG), however, this COM port seems invalid. When I use HyperTerminal, I see two COM ports displayed: COM port 6 and COM port 7. Using HyperTerminal, I can communicate with the Nokia 5700 on COM port 7 but COM port 6 is always unresponsive.
    Can anyone tell me:
    1. Why two COM ports are used with the Nokia 5700 and PC Suite?
    2. What is the purpose of these two COM ports?
    3. Are they always contiguous? On different computers, I have seen the Nokia phone bind to COM ports 6 and 7, 9 and 10, and 10 and 11.
NOTE: I could not attach the file as a JPG, so I renamed it with a *.log extension. Just replace with .log with .jpg and view it in any browser.

  • How to find COM port for a specific USB device

I want to automatically find the COM port for a specific USB device. I use the VISA find resource function but I can't get the manufacturer's ID. VISA says the device doesn't have this information. The find resource function does narrow my search (and often finds the port depending on what other usb devices are connected). In the case where it finds multiple possible ports, can I safely send a message to each port to determine if it is the correct device? I know it will work for my purposes but I don't know if I am asking for trouble by sending messages to unidentified devices. Any thoughts on how I can identify my device port will be appreciated. Thank you - Dave F

You can do it using WMI.  I have C# code I am supposed to convert into LabVIEW foing something similar to what you want to do.  In my case, I am testing a USB device and need to know which port on the hub is which COM port (the device creates a virtual COM port for communication).  Using WMI, you can find the hardware path to the device and know that COM10 is USB hub Port 1 for example.  Unfortunately, I cannot share the C# code.
You can download the WMI Code Creator tool from Microsoft, which should help you tremendously find the proper method of getting your info.
You basically want to look at all the W32_USB devices for the specific device you are looking for.  Once you have that, you can look for the COM Port associated with it.  I don't know when I will get to coding this up in LabVIEW, but will report back when I do, assuming you haven't found the solution by then.

  • 1 sales order with 2 sales districts will spilt invoice into 2

    Hi,
We have one issue here. We would like to create one Invoice based on two different sales districts.
After we key in one sales order with two differennt sales districts, the system generated only one sales order and only one Delivery Order, but unfortunately the system split the Invoice into two invoices.  Instead of spliting into two, can I combine the invoices into one. Meaning, One Sales Order, generate One Delivery Order and One Invoice?
    Kindly please advise. Thank you.

    Hi Sim,
Invoices can be combined if your bill to party and the billing date of all the invoices are same.
This can be done througuh transaction VF06.
You can also check the transaction VTFL for your corresponding delivery and billling type and for your item category field  VBRK/VBRP should have the value single invoice(routine -03).
       Reward points if it helps.

  • Problem with Com port

Hi guys. I have written a driver to communicate with a COM port (FTDI serial adapter).  On the pc from which I'm writing now (windows XP) it works properly, but when I try to use the same driver on another pc (win 7) labview see the port but isn't able to comunicate . I tried also to use a software like Tera Term to see if the com works and trying the echo it works good...so I don't understand where the problem is on this w7 pc...
should I install some labview drivers on the w7 pc? I have already installed
    NI run time installer
    NI max
    NI Visa run time

NI Serial won't help (its for NI serial cards not 3rd party USB-Serial bridges)
LabVIEW sees the VCP in Win7 but does not communicate: Works on XP: "Something" happens with Echo on from teraterm.
    I'l guess either:
Wrong serial cable or settings and you are fooling yourself with the tereterm app and are seeing the echo only.  With Echo on any character sent should be doubled.
Outdated FTDI Driver that does not support Win7.

  • Problem with COM port opening

I made an application using COM port to dialog with a microcontroleur and i have some troubles with the opening of the port. i developed it under window XP pro and labview 6.1 and i have no problem when i launch my application on an XP PC having labview installed or on a window 98 PC without labview (just the runtime engine). But when i launch it on an XP pc with only the runtime engine, it seems to launch correctly but in fact, there is a problem with the COM port opening. The menu allowing to chose the port number is inactive and has no effect, like if the software wouldn't recognize the material port on the PC. And consequently, nothing happens when the dialog should start.

Is the VISA run-time engine installed? I don't understand why it would work on the win98 machine unless you have an older installation of it there.

  • Satellite A300-1BZ with Vista - Com Port has disappeared

    Hi everyone.
My first time and I'm a bit of a duffer with technical stuff, so please be gentle with me!
    A300-1BZ with Vista.
A while ago I installed 'CarSoft V.83' (Engine diagnosis) from CD onto my laptop. It asked me to verify the com-port.
I looked in the device manager and in the list I saw 'com-port 4'. Ok, we'll go with that then. Everything worked fine and I was happily talking away to my car.
Yesterday I went to use it for the second time and it said there was an error with the com-port and to 'verify' the com-port.
So, I got the device manager back up and there is no mention of any com-ports in the list! It was there the last time I looked and now it's vanished!
I was at a loss what to do so, I uninstalled the CarSoft and then re-intsalled it again. Got the same error message.
Went to device manager. Still no com-port 4 in the list, or anything that relates to a com-port.
I don't know how or if I can get it back.
    Please help!

    Hi mate
First of all there are no com ports. The com port which you could see in device manager was an virtual port created by car software.
    What to say
I recommend removing the car software from the system firstly.
Then download the CCleaner and clean the system and registry entries.
Reboot the notebook and run the CCleaner again
After that install the car software again
    Maybe it helps

  • Is using COM ports with crossbridge possible on adobe air desktop?

or is there any other way of accessing COM ports with adobe air?

You should be able through the air native extension Native extensions for Adobe AIR | Adobe Developer Connection
I doubt that what you need here is CrossBridge. If there is a way to do it from normal AS3 AIR though, you will be able to do it from Crossbridge too. Maybe not the same way you would too in normal C++, but since you can go back and forth from c++ to as3, that would work.
Search for air instead of crossbridge and you might find something.
I sees some posts about it on google, for example: Air serial port connection
But personally, I would do it in C++ with the native extension if there is no library that already do it for you.

unfortunately, this seems to ltake like 100% CPU

  • VISA unable to communicate with or see RS232 serial com port

I have a Dell Optiplex GX260 which has recently had Windows XP (Service Pack 2) re-installed on it.  National Instruments VISA is unable to communicate with the single RS232 serial com port on the computer.  Neither the "VISA Resource Name" control in LabVIEW 8.5 nor the "Measurement and Automation Explorer" can see the serial port.  Refreshing the list does not help.  "HyperTerminal"is able to both see and communicate with instruments connected to the serial port.  In Windows "Device Manager, the serialport appear in the list of hardware without any warnings.
Can anyone please help with suggestions as to how I may be able to get VISA in LabVIEW to 8.5 to see and communicate with the serial port?

Someone oughta apologize to the porr guy trying to get some help here.
Go ahead and put me on your ignore list please!
First, there is a plethora of messages on this forum and a plethora of information in the NI KnowledgeBase. If someone doesn't make the simple effort to take 5 minutes to perform a search what does that say? The issue being raised has come up, literally, dozens of times. Do you like answering the same question over and over and over and over and over again?
Second, my feelings are not unique. You will find that the irritation of people not bothering to do a simple search is shared by most of the regulars here. Why do you think search engines are available? Just so that ads can be sold?
Third, posting the SAME question in multiple threads is self-defeating. People who try to answer don't know what's already been suggested, and end up wasting their time as well as the poster's time in providing the SAME answer and/or suggestions that were provided in the other thread.
Fourth, simple forum netiquette. In both threads the poster essentially hijacked someone else's thread. This is frowned upon in just about every forum that I've ever seen.

  • I/O error with COM port

I have a RS485 line going into COM5 of my PC. Using HyperTerminal, I can talk to my serial device. However, there are problems with LabVIEW VISA functions. I can open the connection. I/O errors were given when I try to read or write. Is this because LabVIEW does not support RS485? What can cause the I/O error? Thanks.

    Some tips,
First off, computer com ports are only RS-232. Make sure you are using the RS-232 port on the
ADAM-4570. Do you have to configure this port as RS-232 with Advantech software? If the ADAM is
configured as RS-485, you won't be able to talk to it without an RS-232 to RS-485 converter. Stick
    with RS-232.
Secondly, make sure you have shut down all other software that is using COM5. Only one application
can use the port at a time and sometimes other applications don't release the port properly.
If HyperTerminal can talk to the ADAM, then everything is configured properly for a LabVIEW app. Be
sure to put a carriage return at the end of the command to the ADAM. HyperTerm does this
automatically, LabVIEW doesn't. Start with the basi
c commands you used with HyperTerminal.
