Wrong date on photos sorted by event title

I've modified the dates on some imported photos instructing iPhoto to modify the original as well.  The program successfully changes each photo's date and time.  But when I view my list of photos by event title the dates (for that particular event) don't display as having been modified.  Instead, the date of the event is the date that I was attempting to change.  When I open up the event to view the date of the photo it displays as the modified date which is exactly what I want.  It's only displays the incorrect date on the view by event title screen.  This just started happening to me after updating iPhoto to ver 9.1.3.  Is there a fix for this?

that has been reported - a work around is to flag the photos in the event and create a new event from flagged photos - it will be fine

  • Smart Folder sorted by event titles

I have two smart albums which have very similar criterias. The only difference is that one includes pictures from overseas whereas the other doesn't.
However, viewing the two smart albums is a different experience altogether. The Overseas Smart Album doesn't sort the pictures in any way, whereas the other one sorts it by event title.
Both smart albums have the same preference for 'viewing': 'Sort by' is 'date, and the 'Event titles' can't be selected.
I would really like to view the smart album sorted by event titles. How do I do it? Why can I do it for one but not for the other?
Help appreciated! I have already tried lots of different options!

  • I have changed the dates of photos in an event, but the event is still showing the original dates.

I have a batch of old photographs that I have recently scanned and imported into iPhoto 11.  In iPhoto I changed the dates to the dates when the original photos were taken (between 1971 and 1976) using the "Adjust Date and Time" and "Batch Change" menu options.  This works fine as each photo now shows the date on which it was taken rather than the scan date which appeared when the photos were imported.  However, the event itself still shows the scan dates so it does not appear in the right place when sorting by date.  I'm finding this most perplexing because I have many scans of old photos (one goes back to 1900) and have been able to change dates of individual photos and the event has followed suit.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Within minutes of posting this question I fixed the problem.  It's just a matter of holding down the Option and Apple keys while launching iPhoto and  then repairing the library database from the list of options that pops up on the screen.  Easy really.  Just took me two days to work it out.

  • Can't change date for photos in one event?

So i have my events set up to view by date, with the most recent events at the top. But there is one event that featured photos from a wide range of dates. I selected all the photos in that event, and "batch changed" them all to be yesterday's date. Seemed to work, but when i return to Events View, it is a the very bottom of all my events and gives me a date range of Oct 1999 to August 2007. I've gone thru and highlighted every photo in the event and they all seem to have the august 2007 date. I hit "show hidden photos" and found none.
Any thoughts or suggestions? (I'd rather not go to manual view of events, because i like the latest import loading at the top)
    thanks!

    This is (IMHO) a bug.
Once you have the dates correct the only way currently to fix the event dates is to select one photo and create a new event then move the remaining photos to the new event -- it will have the corrrect dates.
You also should report to Apple -- iPhoto menu ==> Provide iPhoto Feedback -- hopefully they are busy fixing a bunch of these (minor) items

  • Event Titles no longer available as a option when in the Photo's source.

Prior to the latest update, when I selected the Photo's view, I was able to see Event Titles. Now when I am in Photo's (As opposed to Events, Faces, Places) and go to View, the Event Titles selection is grayed out. I don't need thousands of photo's with no event delineation since this is the only place I can rearrange photos. Any idea what happened or what I am doing wrong.

That is correct - events are time based so if you change the sort then event titles make no sense and can not be used - leave the photos in date order and use albums for custom sorts
It used to work great when I could sort in "Photo's" with the Event Titles as dividers.
I do not think that you could ever sort photos manually with event titles displayed
OK, so if I can't do it the way it used to work, how do I sort photo's in an event?
You can not - use albums and/or smart albums with faces/places/times/keywords/ratings etc

  • Photo sort in an event. Why, once in an event, view, sort, by title, is the event not saved that way.

    Hi,
Have driven myself bonkers trying to sort this out. I'm scanning old pix, their creation date will be the date they are scanned. I put them into an event and needless to say they are all out of order. No probs, once in the event you are given the option to sort by date, title etc. So having put them in already numbered I use the sort by title. It works until you leave iphoto, when you return they are out of order, it seems to default to Date. So, I use the batch adjust to adjust date/time and it works but only seems to work if the whole of the event is done this way.
We recently celebrated our 60th B'day, pix taken on 4 different cameras, one with an incorrect date time setting have proved very difficult to sort. Despite altering the date time from the poorly set camera to achieve correct time order it will not get into order. Do you have to change every pix time in an event to get proper results? We like the way events are shown (pic) rather than the list with Albums. Also our kids bought us an Apple TV which we really like and for us ol' Duffers the pix presentation of the events is for us far more pleasing. I've read several similar threads here and it would appear I'm barking up the wrong tree as, if I've read it correctly events are always going to default to Date. Any help much appreciated.... thanks Victa

In iPhoto '11 you set the event sort under the event meno ==> sort events. Unless you have a problem it will stay thay way until you change it either using the sort events command or changing it to manual by manually moving an event (which I have accidentally done from time to time requiring me to reset my desired sort)
Your question 2 is not clear. As noted events are sorted by the oldest photo in the event
You next comment makes no sense at all
As to telling Apple how to implement their software, this is certainly not the place to do that. This is strictly a user to user forum and Apple is not here. Frankly as a consumer you need to pick products you like and use them. Do you try to tell Sony what they should do with their TVs? GM what to do with cars? Etc. if you like the product use it. Millions do and as a result of their decisions Apple is the largest company ever. If you don't like the product then don't use it. If you really are so much smarter than Apple then start your own company and put them out if business with your brilliant products

  • IPhoto:  How can I sort photos within an event?  I can't figure out how to activate the Manual Sort.

iPhoto:  How can I sort photos within an event.  I can't figure out how to activate the Manual Sort button.

Only albums can be sorted manually. Events can only be sorted automatically according to one of the predefined settings "Date, Keywords, Title, Rating".
If you need a manual sort order, selectaall photos in the event and create an album: File > New Album

  • Sorting photos within an event

I'm trying to find a way to rearrange my photos within an event. According to the instructions in help:
Sort photos within Events (but not the Events themselves): Select Photos in the Source list, choose View > Event Titles, and then choose View > Sort Photos.
Trouble is, when I try to choose Event titles, it is grayed out. If I go to the event and then select view>sort photos, manually is grayed out and by date and desending are checked.
    Anyone have a suggestion.

    Did you read the answer?
Events are a very limited form of organising. They are sorted on date and time only. If you want more flexibility then you need to use Albums, where there a virtually no limitations.
That is the answer! You can not sort photos within events.

  • Sorting photos manually in events

I have all my events sorted 'manually' and want to have my photos in each event set the same way, so I can change the order of them instead of sticking with the order iPhoto puts them in. However when I am in an event and try to sort photos 'manually' instead of 'by date', it wont let me do this (the manually option is not highlighted like the 'by date, by keyword, by title' etc are). I have tried resetting all my events to 'by date' but that made no difference. Is there a way to sort my photos in each events 'manually' or do i just have to leave them in the order iphoto chooses?

Manual sorting of photos within event is not available - and the "order iPhoto choose" is the order you took the photos in - it is data and time order
    For other sorting use albums

  • IPhoto '11 -- manual sort of event photos is not available

    Hi,
When viewing an Event, for some reason, I am unable to drag and drop to sort the photos. View > Sort Photos shows Manually and Reset Manual Sort are grayed out.
I am able to do a manual sort of the Events themselves in the Events window, but when I open an Event and view the photos in that Event, I can't reorder them. I am reading the Help file, and I can't see why this isn't working.
Doing a manual sort in an Album works by dragging and dropping.
    Thanks for any help.
    John

That's correct. The manual sort applies only to the Events themselves, not their photos. Within an Event photos can be sorted by Date, Keyword, Title or Rating. Not manually. Send a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
If you want to sort the contents of an Event manually drag the Event into the Album section of the left hand pane to create an Album of that event. Then you can use a manual sort.

  • Dates of photos and Events do not match!

I have photos clearly labelled with the correct original date being displayed in Events several days removed from that date. For instance, I have an Event for 8/7/10 that has photos in it dated 8/2/10 and even 8/3/10. The photos have modification and import dates that make sense, but nothing that would suggest (to me) that they should go in a different Event. (iPhoto 09)
    Thanks a million,Mark

Correction, path should be System Preferences ➙ System ➙ Date & Time ➙ Date & Time (Tab) ➙ Open Language and Text… (Button) ➙ Formats (Tab)
THANKS. That seems to be related. My language (under the Language tab on this window) was set to English, but the Format (tab) should have said United States, but instead said Custom. Changing it to United States showed a change on that window where they display examples of the Jan 1 date.
Interestingly, only the abbreviated date was wrong. The others showed 2011, except for the one marked as Jan 1, 2000.
    http://www.darrowart.com/other/forums/ZZ74920851.jpg
So I clicked the "Customize" button and it showed that once choice (of how to display it) as a typed-in value (vs a menu choice) and it had been typed in "2000"
    http://www.darrowart.com/other/forums/ZZ723076F6.jpg
So, now I have it corrected to United States, not Custom, and all the example formats are 2011 (as they should be). The days of downloaded files have all changed back to proper year, so apparently the dates were saved right, but display (and sort) wrong.
    Thanks for your insight.
As far as the iPhoto Events having the wrong Dates, my conclusion is that this "Customized" date format glitch is the culprit: Since the individual photos each have the correct date despite the Event having the wrong date, I have to look at the Event date as merely a wrong name, not a reflection of a wrong date.
Since I gave a test import no name prior to import, just now, it named the import/Event with the Abbreviated date (which is now correctly formatted). That name should "ride with" the Event regardless of what else I do to the photos. It's just a name that gets assigned which happens to look like a Date (I could name it a date in the future and it would have no bearing on sorting or other data functions).
    Thanks!

  • Changing date (and sequence) of events by changing dates of photos no longer seems to work. Any idea what to do?

I am scanning in old slides and negatives (from the 1960s and 70s), and I want to get the resulting "events" in sequence from when the photos were taken, rather than when they were scanned. So I have been changing the dates of the photos, and previously this resulted in the associated event moving to the proper sequence. This definitely worked a month or so ago, both with prints scanned in on a flat-bed scanner, and also with slides and negatives scanned with a Veho scanner. That was faulty, however, and so it has been replaced with a Plustek 7500i scanner, using SilverFast scanning software, and importing the resulting images into iPhoto. I have recently tried to change the dates of the resulting events, and it doesn't seem to work as it used to. There has been an update to iPhoto 9.1.3 since my earlier success.
Take for example one event, CS73A. Hovering over the event in the "All events" display gives dates of 1 Apr 2011 to 2 Apr 2011; these are the dates the slides were scanned in. If I open the event and choose the Info tab, it gives the event date as 02/03/1973 (which is the approximate date that I changed it to). I had done a batch change on the event this time, so the date and time on the first slide is 2 March 1973 09:30:48. Each successive slide is 1 minute later, and the last is 2 March 1973 10:08:48 (38 slides). I asked for the dates in the files to be changed as well.
I don't know what I'm doing that's different from before. The only things I can think of are (a) something has changed in the iPhoto update, or (b) the SilverFast software stores the scanning date in some part of the EXIF that iPhoto can read but not change. I don't have tools to examine the EXIF unfortunately.
    What to do?

Chris, I have run into the same problem.
    Try this:
Open an event with more than one photo in it.
Adjust the date of one or more photos. The event date does not update.
Delete any one photo. The event date now updates to match the above date change.
Undo the delete photo. The event date stays matching.
Change the date of any photo again. The event date updates now every time.
If you close the event and reopen it, you have to start over with the delete one photo thing.
I don't understand it but it works here.
I also have had the problem of events not sorting themselves in order of the dates when VIEW, SORT, BY DATE is selected. This seems to affect only the events were photo date changes had been made. Using the delete thing seems to keep the events in order.
Another funny thing: When I put photos into iMovie the times in iMovie show as 7 hours off the photo time.
I think Apple owes us an update to iLife!

  • Sort photos in an event manually

Why would the sort manually option be grayed out, not able to choose?
I went into event click view, click sort photos but the manually option is not available.
Is there a way to change this?
    Thanks

Because manual sorting of events or photos within an event is not a feature of iPhoto '09 - and no there is now way to turn it on
albums can be manually sorted - events are (by default) in time/date order

Events are organisation for those who can't really be bothered. They are automatic - based entirely on Date and Time the camera records the photos as taken.
You can move photos between Events, you can Merge Events, you can Rename them and sort them in various ways except one: You cannot manually sort in an Event as Events are all automated.
If you want to manually sort in an Event then you've outgrown Events as an organising tool. Now it's time to look at albums (Where you can manually sort) which are much more flexible than Events as an organising tool.

  • Can't see event titles or project titles when looking at photos in the photo view in Aperture 3?

    Howdy,
I recently switched from iPhoto 11 to Aperture 3. The only drawback so far is I am unable to view Project Titles when I am viewing all of my photos in the photo view. In iPhoto, I often would look at all of my photos in photo view while displaying the event titles. Is this possible in Aperture? Also, is there a simple way to view the file names underneath the photos in photo view instead of seeing the version name?

Hi Greg.  Welcome to Aperture and the Apple Aperture users forum.

You should set up all seven of the Metadata Overlays to meet your needs.  (iPhoto is designed as a turn-key operation for those who prefer their meals prepared; Aperture is a kitchen for those who like to cook.)

Have you looked at Projects View (click "Projects" at the top of the Library tab of the Inspector)?  You can group your Projects by Folder or by Year, and you can sort them in a number of ways.  There is no information pane which shows up on Aperture as you scroll (as there is in iPhoto).
Projects View, imho, add tremendous functionality to Aperture.  You can add descriptions to your Projects (and these are included in searches) via the Projects Information window ("{Shift}+i" with a Project selected.)
