Wrong driver for Deskjet 3940

I had a paper jam on my Deskjet 3940, but when I cleared the jam, I could not clear the paper jam message and the printer would not print.  I uninstalled the printer, then reinstalled it to see if that would handle the problem, but when I tried to print a document, I got an error message for a fax machine instead of a printer.  There was no available download for the printer driver on HP's website, so Windows 7 downloaded the drivers automatically.  When I connected the printer to another windows 7 machine which I have, it worked perfectly.  My device screen on the problem computer shows the 3940 printer with the paper jam message still there, but attempts to print just result in the fax machine error message.  Also tried unplugging and plugging back in the printer, but no change there.  Can anyone help?

Hello rez33,
Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with a false Paper Jam error since you cleared a Paper Jam.
Please click on the following link that deals with A 'Mechanism Error' Displays on the Computer (Paper Jam) for HP Deskjet Printers.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.

  • Windows 7 in OS printer driver for Deskjet 6840 not printing properly

The Windows 7 (32 bit) in OS print driver for the Deskjet 6840 produces print in "Normal" mode that is blurred (not properly registered left to right and slightly vertically). When printing in "Draft" mode it is apparent that the driver is not setting the left and right margins correctly, so that each line is alternately shifted left or right on the page. If I switch to a 500C driver, the printer works fine (but of course high res images do not print properly). This is occuring on two wired network computers, both running clean installs of Windows 7 professional with all current updates including Service Pack 1. Microsoft says, "It's a HP printer, it's their problem". I'm just looking for an answer. Anyone have experience with this?

    Hello Bhl3302,
Thanks for posting at NI forums! I think you should follow RavensFan advice on contacting the vendor for information on the driver’s support, or if you have a readme file, you could check on that. Also, are the Windows XP and Windows sharing the same architecture (32 or 64 bits)? Maybe the driver is not compatible with one of them, in case it changed. I did a quick search on the error message you're getting, and I found this forum in which they give some steps you could follow regarding the INF file. For instance, in one of the comments, they say they had a similar issue with another device and they found some work arounds.

  • Vista driver for deskjet f2180 on Windows 8.1

I have a new Windows 8.1 desktop (64 bit), a Vista laptop (32 bit), and an HP F2180 printer/scanner. F2180 is connected to desktop via USB, is shared, and works fine from W81. I can't get it connected to the Vista laptop.
On the desktop, when I check the box "x86 Type 3 - User Mode", I am told to find the driver. Any idea what the file name and location are?
    TIA.

Hello there TIA, Welcome to the Forums! I hope you enjoy your experience
I noticed your post about your Deskjet F2180 not functioning on your Windows Vista system. I would recommend (from the Vista laptop), running the full driver installation. This should install the driver properly on your laptop.
Here is the link to the driver: HP Deskjet F2100 and F4100 Full Feature Software and Driver

    Hi nnnnnnnnn,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand you need the drivers for 10.7.5.
I will be happy to help you.
Unfortunately there are no HP drivers available but I did find the HP Deskjet F2100 series driver from Apple's Website which hopefully will work for you. It is a fairly large download.
HP Printer Drivers v.2.16.1 for OS X.
This is a list of the printers available that are supported.
OS X: Printer and scanner software available for download.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi,
The printer is no longer supported since Mac OS X v10.6 and will not become supported on newer OS versions in the future.

However you may still find some 3rd party solutions which may allow you using the printer.
Try the HPIJS 3rd party print drivers below, be sure to install any of the 3 required downloads and then follow the Set Up instructions.. those drivers compatible with any of the latest OS versions and list your printer as supported:

  • Is there an Android driver for DeskJet e3520

I have a Samsung Tablet that I would like to print to an HP DeskJet e3520 printer.  It appears that there is no driver for such an application, despite the fact that HP has an Android Tablet.
    This question was solved.

Hello, and Welcome to the HP Support Community!
There are no printer "drivers" to be installed per se on Android devices.  They need an app that can transfer the file, usually wirelessly to a similarly capable printer.
HP offers the ePrint program (free in the Play Store).  Since your printer is ePrint-capable you can print two ways:
    1. Register the printer with HPconnected.com, and receive the email address you created for it.  Now you can email files as attachments to the printer (if you have it connected to your Wifi network at home!)
    2. Using the built-in "share" function in Adroid, you can "share" a file and direct it to ePrint.
Note:  The ePrint app must be activated first, with a code you request from HP.  Open the app to activate it.
Note2:  The built-in "Print" function in Samsung tablets will only work if you have a wifi-enabled Samsung printer.  This is the way Samsung designed it.
I'm going to move this post to the ePrint section where printing from Samsung tablets has been discussed many times.

  • Driver for Deskjet 1220c (Windows 7 x64 and Windows Server 2008 R2)

    Hi,
I've got a Deskjet 1220c and have recently upgraded two machines; one to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and the other to Windows Server 2008 R2.  Any idea where I can get printer drivers?
I'd like to try the Vista x64 drivers, though these were included on the Vista CD from MS, and not available as a separate download from HP (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c00868762).
I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
    Thanks,

    Hi
I had this trobule too.  Below is the instructions to install driver.  Disconnect your printer. In printers select add printer.  Then click windows update (need internet) allow them to update and then select 1220c printer to install leaving as standard old port.  Once installed go into printer properites and update to USB port.
    Bingo it works!
Refer to the below link for full instructions.

  • How do I get a driver for Deskjet D4360 to operate on Windows 7?

I've tried down loading new drivers for my Deskjet D4360 printer on my new laptop with Windows 7 and I can't complete the down load. What am I doing wrong? The print worked great on my old laptop using XP.

Sounds like your download is stalling out. I have this problem in Windows 7 as well. You might try pausing the download when it stops and un-pausing it. I'm still trying to find out why this happens in Windows 7.

  • Can't add printer driver for Deskjet 1010 on Mac OS 10.9.5

I have installed the printer driver on my Mac Mini running 10.7.5 with almost no issue (well, one of the first printouts actually crahsed Preview, but that was only once and might be another issue) and it print well and fast. But now I try to add this printer to my MB Pro running 10.9.5 and it always croaks that the software can't currently be loaded from the server (since 2 days now).
I guess it means my Mac Mini which likely only has drivers for the oder OS X. I also tried to install the drivers directly (downloaded from Apple's support pages) but still to no avail. I always get that ghastly message.
    This question was solved.

I said (or meant) that I plugged the printer in the USB port of my MacBook. This made OSX to install the appropriate drvers. I think I also used the supplied CD with HP drivers to complete the installation. I'm pretty sure you can find the driver itself somewhere on a HP site for download. Sorry, but I have no idea where. I just remember searchng for drivers in the past. And most times it was a PITA :-(

  • CS5 using wrong drives for scratch

I'm running CS5 in win7/64bit, booting from C: and have a bunch of other drives, one of which is a FAT formatted external I: I have scratch set up on L: and C:, I: is unchecked in the performance prefs, yet PS is using I: for scratch. I can tell this because I see files like 5380_982581875_MVM_0.tmp created (interestingly they appear when running liquify).
I'm getting a disk full pop-up in liquify even though the disk isn't full - the problem is that the scratch file is getting to be 4gb which is the limit for FAT. Procmon (from sysinternals) confirms that it's the file on I: that's being written to when liquify gives the pop-up (and that a disk full error is happening).
Anyway, the real question is why PS is using the I: drive when it's not configured to do so..?
    thanks,
    ...rob

Thanks for the quick (and helpful) reply. I think you're on the right track; the 'Photoshop Temp' file is in the right place, and the MVM files are only created when I'm running liquify (and perhaps other plugins as referred to in the post you mentioned).
I tried creating a c:\Temp as suggested but the files still go in a 'random' place. Disconnecting the FAT drive means liquify works for me now as they are going to an NTFS drive but it would still be nice to decide where they go.
I've not come across Mondo before, and google isn't coming up with anything interesting. Do you know where I can find any info on it?
    thanks,

  • Is there a driver for deskjet 3050 for mac osx 10.7?

I just bought the Deskjet 3050 and I am currently running Mac OSX 10.7 on my MacBook Pro. The setup disk won't work for 10.7 so how am I supposed to set up my printer to my wireless network and my computer? Thanks

OK, well, things are not quite ready for prime time with Lion and this printer .
Here is how to do it:
    1. On the front of the printer, click the Wireless button, scroll down to Wireless Settings then Restore Defaults.   Restore them.
    2. On your Mac, connect to a wireless network that begins with "HP-Setup...."
    3. Open System Preferences > Print & Scan and add a printer with the '+' sign at the bottom of the list of printers.
    4. Find your printer and click Add.
    5. Now, back on the Print & Scan page, with the 3050 highlighted, click on Options & Supplies, then on Show Printer Webpage
    6. On the resulting page, click the Network tab, then start the Wireless Setup Wizard.
    7. Start the wizard, connect it to your network by choosing it then typing the password.
    8. When the printer verifies that it is connected to your network, close Safari and then close Print & Scan.
    9. Connect your Mac back to your regular wireless network.
Now, when you first try to print something it will take a while to find the printer, but it will eventually connect and print.
