Wrong E-mail Reply Address

We have a wierd situation going on here. Running Server OS X 10.3.9.
A company that we work with has one user who's mail gives us problems. When we open mail he sends us on our end (using Mail in Jaguar, Panther, and Tiger) the reply address is reported as being from our own server. (He is not a user on our system.) However, when he sends mail to my Yahoo account, the correct reply address is listed. He is also the only of many users at his company that gives us a problem. So, I feel as though this must be an issue with our mail server.
Here is a sample of the raw source from a message he replied to from us (cleaned):

I think the user might set his reply email address as your domain at his Microsoft-Entourage setting. Let him double check his Microsoft-Entourage setting or try another user agent, or webmail to send you email to eliminate this possibility

  • Mail reply address not recognized by server

On Apple Mail using Road Runner server my replies don't get sent because "the server does not accept my address" as the sender. I can't send new messages either. Incoming mail to the same address works fine. My address is unchanged from when it worked. My device is an Apple Air notebook, new, 11" running 10.9.3 Maverick.

I still haven't found a solution to this problem. I purchased Office for Mac with Outlook 2011 because my IT guy told me that there were lots of people using Macs and that they used this program. It worked for 3 days and then I encountered the exact same problem. See below.
Mail could not be received at this time
The server for account "xxxxx" returned the error "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password." Your username/password or security settings may be incorrect. Would you like to try re-entering your password?
I've asked my IT department and they have no idea what's going on. Apparently my IP address doesn't even show up on their servers. Can someone please help me?
    Thanks.

  • Why when people reply to my email, the reply address is wrong?

Why when people reply to my email, the reply address is wrong?
         What I did: 1) Mail > Preferences>Composing>Send new message from >[email protected]
         2) Selected the inbox for the correct email address before sending
         3) Selected the from from the composing pane

    @Jscher2000.
It is still a frequent problem. We are dealing with people who are still using Windows XP some still using their trusty 2000 versions.
As for 2003. The same stupid setting is available in outlook 2013 see http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/outlook-help/change-the-message-format-to-html-rich-text-format-or-plain-text-HA102749169.aspx
I will stick to my original statement. Outlook is not an email application. Outlook is an excellent exchange client (its primary purpose) it is also an excellent corporate mail client as long as it is acting as an exchange client. Lotus domino and IBMs websphere have similar abilities and strengths luckily they are not flogged off to the general public as something they are not "a mail client". Outlook is, and does that job in a barely adequate way, providing the general user that is familiar with it's corporate functions a very skewed view of email and how it works.
@sloimpex have you tried right clicking the folder and selecting properties and then repair. Sometime the index get a little screwy and rebuilding it make the invisible visible.

  • I have entererd the wrong E-mail address for my £15iTunes gift card, how can i get my code back so i can put it on the right account?

i entered the wrong E-mail address when it asked me for my Apple ID, now my card is useless and i dont have the £15 credit i paid for, i was wondering, if i gave you the code, would you be able to trace what address i typed in (Which will be similar to the one i have now) and would you be able to transfter the £15 credit onto my account?
I can send you the code if you like?
    Many thanks, James Cummings.

First, you're not communicating with Apple when you post in these forums. The only people who will respond are fellow users and there's nothing we can do directly with this problem.
But I can tell you that if you redeemed the card through the wrong iTunes Store ID, then sorry, but there's no way to transfer credit from one account to another. You'll have to use the iTunes Store ID under which you redeemed the card to make your purchases. You would not have been able to redeem the card through another account unless you had the password to that account, though, so you may not have actually successfully redeemed the card. Have you tried to redeem it through your "real" iTunes Store account?
    Regards.

You are trying to find a loophole to circumvent a basic rule that prohibits the transfer of purchased content from one Apple ID to another.
Content tied to an Apple ID are bound to that Apple ID forever. You can not merge or trade accounts. Well, not (officially) anyway...

  • I originally typed the wrong e-mail address on my iPad by one letter. I changed it back on my apple account to the correct one but when I try to load apps on my iPad the wrong address appears therefore there is no password recognition.

  • Receiving wrong e-mail from a wrong address

Hey everyone is being a while I posted something or contribute something glad to be back. Just wonder if anyone out there having the same problem as I'm facing.
I'm a .Mac suscriber so I have a .Mac mail account. Dud!!!
The problem is lately I'm receiving quite a whole lot of junk mail (normally Mail or .Mac is quite good with junk); but, lately I pay close attention to all the junk that I had received over a week period and realize that I am getting mail that is not address to me.
    Explanation:
For example my e-mail address is [email protected] (this is a fake e-mail if somebody have this address I apologize).
Therefore, I'm also receiving e-mail that addresses to [email protected]
The address is not the same but very similar. I just wonder if someone out there having the same dilemma. Because I'm just about to sumit to .Mac personel about this problem.
    Thanks for the info.

If you're seeing similiar address on spam, it's likely that your email address is one of possibly many others included in the Bcc: or otherwise addressed to you and other recipients.
It's quite easy for a bulk mailer to send a message out to various names, bob_jones, bob_johnson, etc. The sender doesn't really care if the addresses are wrong or if there is no one with that account because the return address is usually spoofed.. They won't see any Message Undeliverable messages.
Bottom line, just another way for spammers to earn their living. Ignore it, and do what you can to protect your email address.

  • IOS 6 Mail default reply address - random

Ever since switching to iOS 6 my mail reply does not list the proper address as the default.
I use IMAP with Gmail.  I have multiple addresses entered in the Email field in the preferences.  In previous iOS versions, it obeyed the default I have set in Gmail.  Now with iOS 6, it picks a random address as the default.  Very annoying.  It's different on my iPad and my iPhone even though the same addresses are listed and of course, in Gmail I have an address set to default.  If I click to change which address I want to use, the list comes up fine.  It's just that Apple Mail does NOT respect the default setting.  Strange.
No other iOS had this problem.  It's only iOS 6. It's also ONLY Apple Mail.  Sparrow obeys Gmail defaults just fine.
Can we expect a fix for this soon?

Thank you mr.ipa.  I appreciate the tip.
That is not however the issue I am having.  I have entered in my email preferences a number of addresses I use when creating or replying to an email.  They are separated with commas.  This is exactly how email works on Mac OS X.  When I compose an email, the app chooses a default.   What used to happen is that iOS Mail respected the default account set in my Gmail web account.  All of iOS since about 3.0 did this perfectly.
Now with iOS 6 it does not.  It chooses an address at random.  It's not alphabetical, it's not anything.  I can change the order of the way they are typed in my list, yet iOS still picks a random address.  It is different on my iPhone and on my iPad yet they have the same info in the list in the same order.
It was a dark day for iOS and Mac OS X when Google bought Sparrow.  With Sparrow you can designate which address you would like to use as your default and change it in the fly when composing.  In Apple iOS Mail, you can change it on the fly, but it will NOT let you select a default address to use.
    Very frustrating.
Apple seems intent on NOT allowing defaults for many of their apps.  I think this is a big mistake.  I should be allowed to select a default email address, a default app for opening images, a default for listening to music and most of all - a default web browser!!!  Didn't MS get slammed in Europe over that very thing??
Anyway, I am still looking for Apple to supply a fix that allows you to set your prefered email address in Apple iOS Mail.

  • Mail.app messing up reply address for simple email addresses.

Anybody else get this problem? When an email comes to me with the following looking "From" field:
    From: <[email protected]>
That's with greater than and less than character at the start and end of it. It messes up the reply address.
When I reply to one of these emails Mail.app sets the "To:" field to be:
    "[email protected]> <[email protected]" <[email protected]>
    When it should just be:
    To: [email protected]
    Anybody get this behaviour?
Incidentally, you can search for these kinds of simple emails in Mail.app by searching in "All Mailboxes"/"From" for:
    <</div>
That's greater than, space, less than.
    Cheers Daniel

The Apple Bug Reporter give you some templates to use. Just make sure it is crystal clear. You might also want to provide a link to the specific section in the standard: http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2822#section-3.4
where it says "display-name" is optional when used with an "angle-addr"
