Wrong EDI_DC40.SNDPOR field in sender IDoc

Hi to all,
I have an IDoc to IDoc tunneling scenario. When the IDoc goes out from the sender system, it has a wrong port into the EDI_DC40.SNDPOR field. How can I change this? there is a SAP transaction that mantains this value?
Thanks to all!

Hi,
For IDOC tunnelling even if the sender port information in not appropriate
You could do this with below alternatives
for e.g.
1. Switching Off ALE audit messages
At times, there could be a scenario where in we do not need the ALEAUD IDOCs to be got back.To acheive this add the PORT,CLIENT and MESSAGETYPE to the table IDXNOALE.Use transaction SE16 -> specify the table name "IDXNOALE" and then choose create new entries.Specify the values for PORT, CLIENT and MESTYPE fields, save the entry. This procedure helps switch off ALEAUD IDOCs from being sent back to the sender SAP system.
2. Refer the links

3. In transaction We20 you could rectify the sender Port for the proper logical system.

  • Problem while sending IDOC to File Senario

    Hi Experts
I am having problem while sending the Idoc from SAP R/3 to File
I have done all the setting in SAP as well in XI but while pushing IDOC
I am getting error in the transaction sm58 in SAP R/3
" <b>The service for the client 300(My SAP R/3 client) is not present in Integration
      Directory</b>"
I can any one explain me what to done on this....all the connections are fine
    Waiting for Response
    Adv points and thanx
    Rakesh

    Reason and Prerequisites
You send IDocs from system ABC to the exchange infrastructure (XI) of system XIZ, and error messages are issued in system ABC (Transaction SM58) for the IDOC_INBOUND_ASYNCHRONOUS function module.
This note proposes solutions for the following error messages:
    a) No service for system SAPABC client 123 in the integration directory
    b) Transaction IDX1: Port SAPABC, client 123, RFC destination
    c) ::000
    d) NO_EXEC_PERMISSION: "USER" "Business_System"
    e) IDoc adapter inbound: Error error ...
    Solution
    a) Error message: No service for system SAPABC client 123 in the integration directory
    Solution:
You send IDocs from system ABC to XI. In the control record of the IDoc, the SNDPOR field contains the value "SAPABC". The client of the sending system is determined by the MANDT field of the control record. The system ID and client are then used to determine a service without party of the type (business-system/business-service):
    Business system
Activities in the System Landscape Directory (SLD)(Create technical system):
Create a technical system for system ABC in the SLD, and create the client for this. Do not forget to assign an "ALE logical system" (for example, "ABCCLNT123") to this technical system.
    SLD (Business system):
You can now explicitly assign a business system to this client.
For more details, refer to the SLD documentation.
Activities in system ABC (self-registration in the SLD):
Alternatively, you can register the system in the SLD in system ABC with Transaction RZ70. You will find detailed information about the SLD registration of systems on the SAP Service Marketplace for the "Exchange Infrastructure" in the document "Exchange_Installation_Guide.pdf".
In system ABC, you can check your configuration with TransactionSLDCHECK.
Activities in Integration Directory (import business system from SLD):
You will find the business systems under Services Without Party in the Integration Services. In the Service menu, you will find the system identifiers, the client, and the corresponding ALE logical system under "Objects"->"Adapter-specific identifiers".
Use the Import/Update button to copy the data from the SLD, to create business systems, or to update their identifiers.
    Business service
Activities in the Integration Builder directory:
You want to create a service without party that is not part of your system infrastructure and is therefore not maintained in the SLD.
In the Integration Builder directory, you will find the "Business-Services" under Services Without Party. In the Service menu, you will find the system identifiers, the client, and the corresponding ALE logical system under "Objects"->"Adapter-specific identifiers".
Activate the change list in Integration Directory.
In system ABC, you can restart the incorrect entry from Transaction SM58 .
    b) Error message: Transaction IDX1: Port SAPABC, client 123, RFC destination
    Solution:
The Integration Server tries to load the IDoc metadata from the sending system. The IDoc schemas from the Integration Repository cannot be used because they are release-dependent.
The sending system is determined by the value of the "SNDPOR" field from the IDoc control record (for example, "SAPABC").
Activities in the central XI system:
In Transaction IDX1, you can assign an RFC destination to the sending system (for example, "SAPABC"). This must be created beforehand in Transaction SM59.
Note that the IDoc metadata is cross-client data. In Transaction IDX1, only one entry must be maintained for each system. Only the lowest client is used by the runtime for Idoc metadata retrieval with RFC.
Ensure that only SAPABC and not "SAPABC_123" is entered in the port name.
    c) Error message: "::000"
    Solution:
This error occurs if the central XI system tries to load the IDoc metadata from the sending system by RFC.
There may be several different reasons for the failure of the metadata import, the error is not transferred in full by tRFC completely, and this results in the error message above.
User cannot log onto sending system
User/password/client is not correct or the user is logged due to too many failed logons.
    Activities in sender system ABC:
Transaction SM21 contains entries for failed logons.
Activities in the central XI system:
Determine the sending port from the IDoc control record of the IDoc. If the ID of the sending system has the value "ABC", the value of the sending port is "SAPABC". You will find the RFC destination used for the "SAPABC" sending port with the lowest client in Transaction IDX1. In Transaction SM59, you will find the RFC destination containing the maintained logon data .
User does not have the required authorizations
Activities in the sender system ABC:
In Transaction SM21, you will find entries relating to authorization problems and more exact details.
Contact your system administrator and, if necessary, assign the user the required roles in user administration.
    IDoctyp/Cimtyp cannot be loaded
    Activities in sender system ABC:
In the sender system, you can check your IDoc types in Transaction WE30 (IDoc type editor)  Take note not only of the errors, but also of the warnings.
    The most common errors are:
    - IDoc type or segments not released
    - Segments that no longer exist are listed in the IDoc type
    - Data elements that do not exist in the DDIC are assigned to fields
      in the segment.
Contact your system administrator and correct these errors in the IDoc type.
    d) Error message: NO_EXEC_PERMISSION: "User" "Business_System"
    Solution:
You created a list of users in the directory who are authorized to use the "Business_System". The user in the error message is not on the list.
Alternatively, the same error is used if you have created a sender agreement with a channel of the IDoc type for the "Business_System" and the interface used. The user in the error message is not contained in the list of all authorized users defined there.
    e) Error message: IDoc adapter inbound: Error error
    Solution:
You send IDocs to the central XI system, where they are received by the IDoc adapter. The IDocs are converted into IDoc XML, and a corresponding XI message is generated and transferred to the XI Runtime Engine. The Engine tries to read its own business system from the "Exchange Profile". If the Exchange Profile is currently unavailable, the message is not processed and it is returned to the sending system with an error message.

  • Creation of multiple nodes in target IDOC as per field from sender file

    Hi SapAll.
here i have  got a requirement in an File To Idoc Interface.
the requirement is there will be one field under sender  file which will be repeating for multiple records(ItemCount),here pi need to check the value of this field for each record and if the value is 'x' THEN it should create the target node under idoc for the same no .of times as the occurance of this field(if the condition is true).
i just used the if Condition, text function(Equals) in the message mapping but it was not working for the
    Case 1 :
if the condition in the first record fails  but if it passes for the remaining records its not creating for the remaining records as it fails for the first record itself
Case 2: it is only working when the condition for the first record is sucess .
can any body help me in this.

  • Third party is sending IDOC (EDI_DC40 relevant?)

    Hi,
I need to send an IDOC from a third party to an SAP system via XI. My problem is the first part: ThirdParty->IDOC.
Now I have done the following steps:
    - RFC connection between Third party and XI works fine
    - define Third Party as busines system in SLD and assign a logical system name to it
    - enter logical system name in BD54 in XI and SAP
    - define sending IDOC communication channel
    - define receiving IDOC communication channel
My question for the <b>sending</b> part:
Are there any entries in EDI_DC40 for the sending third party system neccessary for XI (Sender System/Port/... Receiver System/Port/... etc.)? If yes which entries are neccessary?

Logical System name you should maintain when you are creating a Business System inSLD not in BD54 of XI, then you should create the same logical system in SAP using BD54 transaction and maintain a partner profile and inbound idoc config.
After you import the Business System into Integration Directory, then you should open the business system (double click) and menu Service --> Adapter-Specific Identifiers and make sure it is populated.

  • Sending idocs for custom field

    Hi
In case you have created a structure for your custom fields and added it to the standard table then you would be looking for a user exit so that the data entered in those fields from the MM01 or MM02 screen gets stored into the database.
Over there you can trigger a custom event and start your approval workflow.
If the approval is given then set a parameter say Approval as X in the workflow.
Read the workflow container in your exit for this container element and if its value is X,then move the corresponding data to the desired structure or else clear it.
Lets say you have added fields in CJ01 and it has two exits for storing the data in database.PROJ is the table and custom fields added in CI_PROJ
    EXIT_SAPLCJWB_002
    move-corresponding sap_proj_imp to proj.
    EXIT_SAPLCJWB_003 :
    call F.M. swe_event create
wait for say a particular time limit after which it should be considered as auto rejected read workflow container for this approval value
    if X
    move-corresponding proj to cnci_proj_exp.
    else.
fire another event to cancel the workflow.
    endif.
I am not sure this would be an appropriate way but could be tried.

  • Sending IDoc from Non-SAP system to XI

    Dear all,
We have a non sap system which needs to send IDoc to XI, Please could you answer my following four questions
    1. What should be the values for the following fields in the IDoc control record
    e.g. RCVPRN = <logical system name of XI>
    SNDPOR
    SNDPRT
    SNDPRN
    RCVPRT
    RCVPOR
    2. How does XI decide which port(idx1) to be used when it receives an idoc
    3. The third party system is a non sap one, so it does not have a client no, so I would assume, I need to use another SAP system as a meta data provider, in that case, how would i tell XI to use that port when it receives IDocs from the non-SAP system ?
    4. In what step does XI use the logical system name of the Business system(in SLD)?
    Thanks in advance
    cheers

    Hi
there is bit wrong interpretation of the statement
If the sender system is a non-SAP system, the sender service is identified from the logical system name of the sender port.
If the sender system is nonSAP it indicates taht the data is coming to XI from non sap systems such as file, database, webservice etc. to XI and from XI it will pass to sap as IDOC inbound.
For this you need to create the logical system in SAP (receiver) and pass on that value to IDOC header.
You could maintain it in the Business service used for Sender system (nonSAP). here it will be available in the tabs ---> History.
note : IDOC is the concept of data container in SAP, you will not be able to have the IDOCs in non sap systems...

  • Sending IDoc Batches to SAP: Issue with Header Mapping for SNDPRN

We are sending batched IDocs from XI to SAP. We need the individual IDocs to reflect different SNDPRN values. Our mapping creates the different IDoc EDI_DC40 record correctly with different SNDPRN values. However, XI wipes out the SNDPRN values in the payload. When we define Header mapping to get the Sender Party as the XPath to the SNDPRN in the payload, then the header mapping errors out because the XPath returns multiple values.
I wanted to know if anyone has successfully implemented sending IDoc batches to SAP from XI with different SNDPRN values.
    Your feedback is appreciated.

    Hello,
I have the same problem. I want XI send an IDOC with the SNDPOR, SNDPRT and the SNDPRN that are in the EDIDC40.
    <u><b>I find this in sap.help : </b></u>
    <i>Mapping
The IDoc adapter does not make any special demands on mapping. The IDoc adapter must simply be provided with an IDoc XML structure at the Integration Server outbound channel. This either already exists or must be generated by using a mapping.
If the IDoc XML structure contains a control record, it is deleted and created again by the IDoc adapter. If you want to include additional values in the control record, you must select the Apply Control Record Values from Payload checkbox in the parameters in the communication channel and provide a corresponding mapping for the values.
You can include the values from the following fields in your IDoc control record:
    MESCOD, MESFCT
    TEST
    EXPRESS
    STD, STDVRS, STDMES
    SNDSAD, SNDLAD
    RCVSAD, RCVLAD

  • Error sending IDOC from external Java application to Sap ERP system

    Hi Experts!
When I try to send Idoc from Java application to XI an error occurs : no service for system CLNTJAVA, client in Integration Server.
My question is: What value the setSenderPort() is excepting? The Java third party business system's logical name or the ERP business system's logical name where the JCO can be found?I tried both of them, but still have the problem.
Please help. I read all threads about this error, but non of those can help me.
    My relevant java sourcecode:
                doc.setSenderPort("CLNTJAVA");
The XI documentation says that:In the case of non-SAP senders, the entry in the SNDPOR field is interpreted as a logical system name, and the corresponding business system is searched for in the runtime cache.
Both case(third party business sytem and erp business system) I have configured the ID    i think correctly. I  made a business systems,I configured the adapter specific identifies,I  made the IDX1 port,I made the RFC destination,I polled the IDOC type with IDX2 transaction, I have made full cache refresh,I configured the INTEGRATION_DIRECTORY_HMI rfc destination, but I do not made any communication channels, receiver determinations, receiver agreement.
My configurations if it can help for you.

I think the IDX1 port and the adapter specific identifiers are wrong. is it?

Could this error be an autorization error?I tired to connect to the xi from the Java, with the user PIISUSER extended with PISUPER roles.
    Thank very much.

    Hi!
My SNDPOR already set to my source business system's logical name if you check my configurations(JAVACLNT), so there is another problem unfortunately. I set SNDPRN to JAVA, but it still does not work.
    Check this configuration please(posted here:
No service for system ... in Integration Directory)
    doc.setMessageType("ACC_DOCUMENT");
doc.setRecipientPort("SAPSE1"); // get stuck in XI mapping if not set
    doc.setRecipientPartnerType("LS");
    doc.setRecipientPartnerNumber("SE1CLNT500");
    <b>doc.setSenderPort("SAP3MA");</b>
    doc.setSenderPartnerType("LS");
    <b>doc.setSenderPartnerNumber("TREMACLNT");</b>
    doc.setClient("100");
    Inside XI configuration integration builder
    <b>Business Service: Service: TREMACLNT</b>
Under the menu Service - Adapter specific identifiers
Idoc Adapter Logical system: TAPPMAN (This thing is important when sending idoc XI -> SAP and should match the logical sys in the receiving SAP system)
IDoc Adapter and RFC adapter R/3 Sysytem ID: 3MA
    Client: 100
    In IDX1 trans
<b>Port: SAP3MA</b> (Note that the 3MA here is matched against the IDoc Adapter and RFC adapter R/3 Sysytem ID: 3MA)
(a not so well documented feature)
    Client: 100
RFC Destination: SE1 (A SAP test system from where IDOC def can be imported, rfc dests are setup in SM59)
I guess that your idx1 port name is the same as the SNDPOR value. I think it should be, because the XI is whatching the IDOC traffic in the idoc adapter port, so you should send the IDOC from external system to the adapter port. Is it right?
My idx1 port is the same as my SNDPOR value in Java, but still came the error.

  • Error in Sending IDoc to XI

    Hi Gurus,
We are not being able to send Idocs from one of our Back-end SAP system. The Idoc status in we05 is successful but it doesn't reach XI. So we checked in SM58 in the Back-end R/3 system and there it shows the error:
No Service For System  SAP*** , Client *** in Integration Directory
We tried almost every possible setup
-The System is defined in SLD and has the logical system name.
-The Adapter Specific Identifiers are correct for the corresponding business system in ID
-The RFC destination in R/3 system is defined.
    - Read through other similar threads in SDN about the similar problem.
Do anyone have a more definite solution for this particular problem? The other R/3 systems are connected to XI system and all IDocs from those systems are arriving at XI.
    Waiting for your valuable advices!
    Regards,
    Suddha

    Hi All,
We had eventually found the solution to this problem we were facing in sending IDoc, though I couldn't manage to update the thread with the solution. I think this would be a very helpful information for those who face similar problems.
Let me describe the scenario first briefly,
We are sending an IDoc (Idoc extension), from SAP system to XI and then send the XML payload as mail attachment to the receiver via receiver mail adapter. Since this is a cross company transaction, hence we have configured the scenario as a B2B in ID, which means we use Parties for both the sender and receiver.
Now in the ID we had done all necessary configurations and used parties and services under Party. For the sender SAP system we assigned a Business System to Sender Partner, configured the Party Alternative Identifiers correctly. The ports were created in IDX1.
On the other hand the SAP system was also configured successfully - including Partner Profile, Distribution List, RFC destinations and ports.
In SLD we created Business System for the SAP system and in ID the Business System under party had the correct logical system name as Adapter Specific Identifiers.
But after all these, the IDoc was not arriving at XI, though in R/3 the status of the IDoc was 03 in we02. When we checked in sm58 in R/3, it showed us the error message that "No Service For System  SAP*** , Client *** in Integration Directory".
The cause to this problem was:
We created (assigned from SLD) Business System only under Party (Sender), as this was a B2B scenario, and didn't create (assign) a Business System without Party, as we didn't need one at all in the scenario configuration. And this the reason behind this error. When an Idoc arrives at XI, before the Inbound IDoc adapter converts the IDoc to IDoc XML using IDoc metadata............it checks in Configuarion to see if any Service without Party (Busniess System) is defined for the Sender SAP System and Client (The SNDPOR and MANDT field values from IDoc Control header are taken as the SAP SID and Client). If it finds one it accepts the IDoc and starts the Normalization (Sender Party, Service......in the message header) and IDoc to XML conversion. If it cannot find an Service without Party in ID for sender system, it rejects the Idoc with the error message that we saw in sm58 in backend R/3 system.
In this step the Service under Party doesn't help, because at this point the Inbound IDoc adapter can not deterimine the sender party.
Hence for sending an IDoc from an SAP system to XI, we need to have an Service Without Party in ID, whether or not we require it in our actual Scenario Configuration, which is ofcourse not a case for the Reverse Scenario, ie Sending an IDoc into SAP system from XI.
This is the similar with BC adapter as well. I was already aware about this behaviour of BC adapter from my past experience and this actually helped to troubleshoot this IDoc adapter problem.
This was ofcourse a useful and new learning for me and hope would be helpful to others as well. Let me know if anyone has any doubts on this.

  • Sender IDOC issue.

    Dear all,
I am doing IDOC to FILE scenario.
I did all the configuration required.
    1) in  r/3 side:- created LS, RFC destination, port ,PP .
2)XI side:- created rfc destination , port in IDX1.
IDOC is generated perfectly but in SM 58 I am getting the following error message
u201D No service for system SAP***, client 800 in ID.
After this error I created the business system in ID but still I am getting the same error.
when I tried to import IDOC metadata in IDX2, I  not able to view my port created in IDX1.
Than got the same error like this forum Re: IDoc Metadata message
Than created TS and BS as of type WEB AS ABAP with the help of RZ70,
But still I am getting the same error in IDX2 also.
In sm58 system looking for which service??
    Regards,
    Navneet

    Hi Navneet,
    Please do the following:
You send IDocs from system ABC to XI. In the control record of the IDoc, the SNDPOR field contains the value "SAPABC". The client of the sending system is determined by the MANDT field of the control record. The system ID and client are then used to determine a service without party of the type (business-system/business-service):
    Business system
Activities in the System Landscape Directory (SLD)(Create technical system):
Create a technical system for system ABC in the SLD, and create the client for this. Do not forget to assign an "ALE logical system" (for example, "ABCCLNT123") to this technical system.
SLD (Business system):You can now explicitly assign a business system to this client.
Activities in system ABC (self-registration in the SLD):
Alternatively, you can register the system in the SLD in system ABC with Transaction RZ70. In system ABC, you can check your configuration with Transaction SLDCHECK.
Activities in Integration Directory (import business system from SLD):
You will find the business systems under Services Without Party in the Integration Services. In the Service menu, you will find the system identifiers, the client, and the corresponding ALE logical system under "Objects"->"Adapter-specific identifiers".Use the Import/Update button to copy the data from the SLD, to create business systems, or to update their identifiers.

    Hi Babu !
Log into the R/3 system, transaction WE60, enter the idoc type MATMAS01 or 02, 03, 04, then press F8 or go to Documentation menu, HTML Format.
It will display a document, telling you which fields are optional and which mandatory.

  • Problems with sending IDocs into R/3 using BPM

    Hi Vishnu,
as I have read the forum, you have experience with sending IDocs into R/3 from XI using the BPM.
Did you have problem, that this sending takes very long time?
My BPM splits the xml, sends IDoc into R/3 immediately, but the processing of the 2nd IDoc takes 6-10 minutes!
Do you have any idea, what could be wrong?
    Thanx 4 answer, Peter

Vishnu, I was discussing this problem in another thread, but no helpful answer was sent, and I have read, that you have experience, so - just for explanation
    Well,
yes, this situation is really strange.. New facts are:
when I send into XI XML, which is splitted in the BPM only into 1 IDoc, it is processed immediately. When I send there XML for 2 IDocs, the first is processed immediately, the 2nd starts immediately, but end of process is after 6-10 minutes, it depends... Then I tried to send there XML for 10 IDocs - and now attention please! 5 of them have been processed almost immediately, 5 of them after 8 minutes...  The last test was with 16 items - 6 processed immediately, 10 after 10 minutes...  And all these 10 minutes was my 4 processor XI box unavailable, with over 60% load... But finally the IDocs arrive!!
    Any explanation???
    This is really unbelievable situation!
Port name is SAPDEV, rfc destination DEVCLNT100
Actually, when I was creating the scenarion using the wizard and trying to add my communication channel(IDoc type) to receiver agreement, I got error - communication channel is not configured correctly, use another one. But somewhere I read, that I should create the receiver agreement manually. So I did.
    To my BPM:
    -receive MSG
-switch (but I'm testing only one branch now) - and the MSG message is always passed here, it's ok
-then I have transformation to MultiMSG (message with multiple DATA for multiple IDOCS)
-then comes the split mapping Multi2SingleMSG
-then ForEach Block with sending the Single MSG
this is the end of the BPM, and outside the BPM comes the mapping Single2IdocMSG and sending the IDoc into R/3
before I had the Single2Idoc mapping in the BPM, but thought, that this could be the bottleneck, so moved the mapping after the BPM... It didn't help...
    So, what do you say?

  • Adding field in standard IDOC Segment E1EDL24

    Hello Friends,
I have an urgent requirement that I have to extend IDOC segment E1EDL24 with two fields PABNR and LFSNR.
When I tries to change the segment in WE31, it shows an error message that you can only modify the segments of customer namespace and cannot modify Standard IDOC Segments.
Can we modify the standard IDOC segments, and if yes, how can we modify the standard IDOC segments. Please clarify.
    Points will be rewarded generously.
    Regards,
    Navin

    Hi Naveen,
We cannot Modify the Standard segments. But we have to Create a new Segment and Add these fields.
Then Create an Extended Idoc type
Implement User Exits in Outbound And Inbound ..
This is the Complete Steps and Info on this...with an Example...
    Enhancing ALE
For example, if in an outbound interface you find that the IDOC type does not contain all the data you need to pass to the other system, you can extend the IDOC to accommodate the additional fields and enhance the ALE function modules to populate the fields. Similarly, if in an inbound interface, there is additional data that needs to be posted to the R/3 application, you can extend the IDOC type to have additional fields populated by the external system or translator or the other R/3 system and then enhance the inbound ALE function modules to post the additional data to the R/3 application.
let us use the SAP Customer Master application as an example. Specifically, letâs focus on the IDOC extension and ALE function module enhancement of IDOC type DEBMAS02 and message type DEBMAS (Customer Master) and the IDOC reduction of message type MATMAS.
    IDOC EXTENSIONS
Letâs first look at the concept of IDOC extension. SAP delivers Basic IDOC types such as DEBMAS02, MATMAS02, ORDERS02, and WMMBID01. By extending the Basic IDOC type, you are actually creating a new IDOC type. You create a new segment with the additional fields. This new segment has to be associated with one of the existing Basic IDOC segments. Then you create a new extension type, which is associated with the Basic IDOC type. This results in a new IDOC type. In order for ALE function modules to relate to this new IDOC type, the IDOC type is linked to the corresponding message type.
Note that you should not add fields to existing segments but should create a new segment and associate it with an existing segment. This, in a nutshell, is the process of creating IDOC extensions.
In our example, the Basic IDOC type DEBMAS02 is used to communicate Customer Master data to the SAP Customer Master application. Even though the application has a screen to enter and store a contact personâs business address (see Figure 1), DEBMAS02 does not have a segment or fields that communicate the contact personâs business address. If your business requires that this business address be communicated to the other system through the ALE interface for Customer Master, then you have to extend the DEBMAS02 IDOC type, and enhance the corresponding ALE function module.
In DEBMAS02 the contact person fields are present in segment E1KNVKM and the business address of the contact person is stored on the SADR SAP table. You need to create a new segment, Z1SADRX, that is associated with E1KNVKM. This will be done in the process of creating an extension type ZDEBMASX. This extension type will then be associated with a new IDOC type, ZDEBMASZ. IDOC type ZDEBMASZ will be linked to message type DEBMAS for Customer Master. The final step in the IDOC extension process is to check the new objects. This check also verifies the structural integrity of the IDOC type. Letâs look at each of these steps in more detail.
    1. Create an Extension Type and a New Segment.
Determine the fields on table SADR that you are going to provide for in the new segment Z1SADRX. You need fields for name, street, city, region, and country to give the business address of the contact person. You also need fields for the address number. ADRNR is a field in SAP tables such as SADR that uniquely identifies the address of an entity. This field is cross-referenced from other tables to the SADR table to obtain the full description of the address. Because this is an IDOC type for master data, the first field of the new segment will be MSGFN. The message function field informs the receiving system of the action to be taken for that particular segment. In the code that you write for populating the new segment, the value of the message function is the same as that of the parent segment E1KNVKM. In all, you will have 12 fields in segment Z1SADRX (see Table 1).
To create an extension type and new segment:
    • Use transaction WE30 or from WEDI go to Development -> IDOC types.
    • Enter ZDEBMASX for Object Name.
    • Choose Extension Type.
    • Click on Create.
    • You will see a pop-up screen. Choose Create New, and enter a description. For version 4.x, enter DEBMAS02 in the Linked Basic Type field. Enter.
    • You will see a screen with ZDEBMASX and its description in the first line. Click on this line, and press Create. For version 4.x, expand the tree of segments, and place the cursor on E1KNVKM.
    • You will see a pop-up screen. Enter E1KNVKM as the reference segment. Enter.
    • For 4.x, press Create after placing the cursor on segment E1KNVKM.
    • You will see a line appear with E1KNVKM hierarchically below ZDEBMASX, with a description "Customer Master contact person (KNVK)."
    • Click on this line and press Create. You will receive a message indicating that the new segment being created will be a child segment of E1KNVKM. Enter. A pop-up box appears for the new segment.
    • Enter Z1SADRX as the segment type, 1 for Minimum, 1 for Maximum. Leave Mandatory segment unchecked. These entries imply that there is only one Z1SADRX segment for every occurrence of the E1KNVKM segment, and also that this segment is not mandatory. Note that if the parent segment is not mandatory, then the child segment should not be mandatory, because this could result in a syntax error during the creation or processing of the IDOC.
    • For 4.x, you must first create the IDOC segment Z1SADRX (Iâll explain why in a moment) from the menu path WEDI -> IDOC -> Development -> IDOC Segment.
    • Click on Segment Editor.
    • On the next screen, click on Create.
    • Enter a development class for the object. Enter.
    • This will take you to the screen for segment definition. Enter a description for the segment. Enter the field name, data element, and the data element documentation name. In most cases, all three fields may have the same values. If you are using a field in the segment that is not present in the ABAP/4 data dictionary, you must first create the domain, data element, field, and appropriate documentation before using it in the new segment.
    • Enter these three columns for all 12 fields. Save.
    • Click on Generate/Activate, F3 to step back.
    • From screen Maintain Segment, go to Segment Type -> Release. A checkbox now appears beside the segment definition Z1SADRX (see Figure 2). Check this box. Save.
    • Save again to store the descriptions of the segment, F3 to step back.
    • Save the extension type.
It is possible to have several new segments with relevant Basic IDOC type parent segments in a single extension type. However, you can form only one IDOC type based on a single extension type.
    2. Create an IDOC Type.
The next step is to create an IDOC type by associating the extension type that you created with the Basic IDOC type. This is a simple process:
    • From transaction WE30 or WEDI go to Development -> IDOC Types.
    • Enter ZDEBMASZ for Object Name.
    • Click on IDOC Type.
    • Click on Create.
    • Enter DEBMAS02 for Basic IDOC type.
    • Enter ZDEBMASX for extension type.
    • Enter a description.
    • Enter.
    • You will see a display of the composite IDOC type with all segments, including Z1SADRX (see Figure 3).
It is possible to associate only one extension type with a Basic IDOC type for a given IDOC type. However, you can have multiple new segments in an extension type.
    3. Link IDOC Type to Message Type.
The next step is to link the new IDOC type to its corresponding message type. This is important, because this relationship is referenced in the partner profile parameters where you specify the message type and IDOC type to be used for that particular representative system. To link the message type:
    • Use transaction WE82, or from WE30, go to Environment -> IDOC Type / Message Type, or from WEDI go to Development -> IDOC Type -> Environment Î IDOC Type / Message Type.
    • Click on Display <-> Change.
    • Click on New Entries.
    • Enter DEBMAS for message type.
    • Enter DEBMAS02 for Basic IDOC type.
    • Enter ZDEBMASX for extension type.
    • Enter your SAP R/3 release number for Release.
    • Save.
This data is stored on the EDIMSG table and is accessed by several ALE processes to relate the message type to the IDOC type.
    4. Check the IDOC Type.
Before checking the IDOC type for consistency, it is important to perform another step that releases the extension type to the IDOC type:
    • From WEDI go to Development -> IDOC Types -> Extras -> Release Type, or from transaction WE30 go to Extras -> Release Type.
    • For the Object Name ZDEBMASX and radio button Extension Type, click Yes.
    • The extension type has now been "released."
You canât edit the extension type once itâs released. To cancel the release for further editing or deactivation, go to WE30 Î Extras Î Cancel release. The final step in the IDOC extension process is checking the validity of the IDOC type:
    • From transaction WE30 or WEDI go to Development -> IDOC types.
    • Enter ZDEBMASX for Object name.
    • Click on Extension Type.
    • From the Development Object menu select Check.
    • Repeat the operation for IDOC type ZDEBMASZ.
    • A check log will be generated for each run with details of correctness or errors (see Figure 4).
In some situations it is possible to receive errors during the check process, especially segment length errors. The incorrect IDOC segment can be repaired and corrected by executing program RSEREPSG. This program checks the formal consistency and repairs incorrect segments. In test mode it will generate a log of formal correctness for the specified segment only. For the program to repair segments in normal mode, the underlying IDOC structures (DDIC structures) must be active. This program rectifies the lengths of the DDIC structures and not the fields themselves. RSEREPSG can also be used to change the person responsible for the object and the release flag.
Menu paths may vary slightly depending on the release/version of SAP R/3, but the procedures and the principles are the same.
    ALE FUNCTION MODULE ENHANCEMENTS
Having extended the IDOC type to contain additional fields for an inbound or outbound application, you now want to enhance ALE function modules for populating the additional segment on the outbound or applying the additional segment data on the inbound application.
The core working code for ALE processes for a given application area is always encapsulated in ABAP/4 function modules. These function modules are associated with such control information as message types and process codes. So the ALE process checks this control information and derives the name of the function module to invoke for that particular IDOC processing from certain database tables. These function modules contain objects known as customer functions, which can be considered SAP Enhanced user exits. A function module is called at a particular point during the processing of the main program or function module, and it can be used to influence data processing at that point by adding code to the customer function. The customer function behaves like a normal function module and has import and export parameters, tables (internal tables) statement, and exception processing. Unlike a conventional user exit, customer functions give you the ability to modify only data available to you by the function moduleâs parameters and internal tables. While most ALE/EDI function modules are supported by customer functions, there are ALE/EDI processes that still use conventional user exits. There are a few ways to determine which function module to enhance for a given message type/process code:
    • For master data distribution, from SALE go to Extensions -> Master data distribution -> Setup additional data for message types. Search for message type DEBMAS in this example. You see an entry for DEBMAS associated with function module MASTERIDOC_CREATE_SMD_DEBMAS. This data is stored on table TBDME. The function module names for all master data message types follow this pattern: MASTERIDOC_CREATE_SMD_messagetype. This function module calls another function module of name MASTERIDOC_CREATE_DEBMAS or MASTERIDOC_CREATE_messagetype. Search for the words customer function, and you find several hits that can be used to add code to the function module.
    • From WEDI got to Control -> Inbound process codes -> Inbound with ALE service -> Processing by function module (transaction WE42), or from WEDI go to Control -> Outbound process codes -> Outbound with ALE service -> With function module (transaction WE41). There will be function modules associated with the process codes. For inbound, the function modules usually follow this pattern: IDOC_INPUT_messagetype: for example, IDOC_INPUT_CHRMAS for inbound characteristics master.
    • Use transaction WE57 or from WEDI go to Development -> Message/Application Object. The entries list the function module, Business Object, message type, and IDOC type that are used for inbound ALE/EDI interfaces.
Customer functions are not specific only to ALE and EDI but also to all programs/modules in SAP R/3. Customer function is a SAP enhancement component; the other two types are menu and screen enhancements.
All customer function exits are maintained in SAP enhancements and are found by using transaction SMOD. After executing transaction SMOD, pull down (F4) on the enhancement name field, and execute again. This provides you with a list of all SAP enhancements available. SAP enhancements are grouped by development class pertaining to an application area. Choose Application development R/3 SD master data distribution for development class VSV to lead to a screen that lists VSV00001 as an enhancement (see Figure 5). Press Component +/- to display its function exit components. There are four possible components listed, all of which are function exits (and are function modules) that are called from the ALE function modules in the form Call Customer Function Î001â. This is a special occurrence of the ABAP statement Call. Go to item Exit_SAPLVV01_ 001, which you need to enhance for the Customer Master outbound example of an IDOC extension. In the ALE-function module MASTERIDOC_CREATE_DEBMAS, the statement CALL Customer Function 001 is translated in the background to call component EXIT_SAPLVV01_001. Although this function exit can be edited using transaction SE37, you will use a simpler approach.
When you use SAP enhancements and their components, you manage them with an SAP object known as a project, which is like an envelope containing the selected enhancements and their components. A project can be used to control the execution of components and to transport them to other clients and instances in SAP. Basically, the process involves creating a project, including enhancements and components that are to be enhanced, editing the components, and then activating the project. The following process creates a project for our example Customer Master IDOC extension:
    • Execute transaction CMOD.
    • Enter name of project, say CSTMAST1.
    • Click on Create.
    • Enter a description of the project.
    • Save.
    • Click on SAP Enhancements.
    • Enter VSV00001 for Enhancement.
    • Save.
Once youâve created the project, edit the function exit components and activate the project. Remember that the code in the function exit enhancement will execute only if the project is activated. In fact, this is a convenient SAP enhancements feature, whereby the work in progress (developing code in the customer function) will not affect users of that application. When the code is completed, the project can be activated so the enhanced functionality takes effect. It can also be deactivated for maintenance.
As mentioned earlier, customer functions (function exits) are embedded in ALE function modules and can be used to influence the creation and modification of IDOC data on an outbound application or to post additional or modified IDOC data to an inbound R/3 application. Function exits are similar to regular function modules, with import/export parameters, tables (internal tables), and exceptions.
The two important factors to consider while developing the customer function are:
    1. The point in the ALE function module where the function exit occurs
    2. The data made available by the customer function that can be modified or posted to the R/3 application, based on the direction.
Because some function modules have several customer functions, it is critical to choose the function exit best suited for that particular enhancement. Do not attempt to perform activities that the function exit is not designed for. The importance of this point is illustrated by the following description of enhancing function modules for outbound and inbound ALE interfaces.
Outbound interfaces. In an outbound ALE interface you use function exits (customer functions) to populate additional segments created by an IDOC extension or to modify the existing IDOC data segments as per business requirements. Previously, you identified that enhancement VSV00001 has a component EXIT_SAPLVV01_001 (function exit), which can be used for populating the additional data segment Z1SADRX that you created in the IDOC extension ZDEBMASX (IDOC type ZDEBMASZ, based on Basic IDOC type DEBMAS02). You also learned that the ALE function module that calls this function exit is MASTERIDOC_CREATE_DEBMAS, which has a statement Call Customer Function 001.
Browse the function module MASTERIDOC_CREATE_DEBMAS using transaction SE37. You will find that this customer function is invoked for every segment of IDOC type DEBMAS02. In fact, the function exit is called soon after the creation of an existing segment has been populated with data and appended to the IDOC data table (internal table). Also, the function exit is exporting the message type, IDOC type, and the segment name and is importing the IDOC extension type. It is also passing the IDOC data internal table. This indicates that the ALE function module is allowing you to populate additional segments for every existing segment and modify the existing segmentâs data.
Letâs write ABAP/4 code to accomplish the task of populating IDOC segment Z1SADRX with a contact personâs business address:
    • From SE37, display function module MASTERIDOC_CREATE_ DEBMAS.
    • Find Customer Function 001.
    • Double-click on 001.
    • The function EXIT_SAPLVV01_001 will be displayed.
    • Double-click on INCLUDE ZXVSVU01.
    • You will be asked to create a new include object. Proceed as desired.
    • Enter code (as in Listing 1).
    • Be sure to perform a main program check (Function Module -> Check -> main program) and extended program check (Function module -> Check -> Extended check).
Now that you have extended the IDOC and enhanced the ALE function module based on the requirements for the contact personâs business address on the Customer Master, letâs test the interface. You should create a logical system and define a port for this interface. You should also configure the Customer Distribution Model to indicate that message type DEBMAS is being distributed to this logical system. The only difference in configuration between a regular outbound ALE interface and an enhanced one is the partner profile definition. While maintaining the outbound parameters of the partner profile, make sure the IDOC type is ZDEBMASZ. The fields for Basic IDOC type and extension type are automatically populated with DEBMAS02 and ZDEBMASX, respectively.
To maintain the contact personâs business address of a customer:
    • Use transaction BD12 or from BALE go to Master Data ->Customer -> Send and send that Customer Master record by executing the transaction after filling in the relevant fields such as customer number, message type, and logical system.
    • Use transaction WE02 or WE05 to verify the IDOC created. You should see the new segment Z1SADRX populated with the correct data.
With SAP releases below 4.5B, you cannot capture changes to business address through change pointers because a change document object is not available for capturing business address changes, and also earlier releases have not been configured to write change documents for a contact personâs business address. If you would like this functionality, you can either create change document objects, generate function modules to create change documents, and perform ALE configuration to tie it in, or make a cosmetic change to the contact person screen data while changing the contact personâs business address so that it gets captured as a change to the Customer Master. Subsequently, the ALE enhancement that you performed captures the contact personâs business address.
Inbound interfaces. The process for enhancing inbound ALE interfaces is similar for outbound, with a few exceptions; specifically in the coding of customer functions (function exits) for the ALE/EDI function modules.
The first step is to create an IDOC extension for the specific Basic IDOC type by adding new segments at the appropriate hierarchy level: that is, associated to the relevant existing segment. Populate the data fields on the new segments with application data by the translator or external system/program before importing them into the R/3 System. Then, find the ALE function module that is invoked by the inbound processing. By browsing through the code or reading the documentation on the function exit enhancements using the SMOD transaction, identify the function exit in which you should place your code. The technique used in the code to post the additional or modified IDOC data to the application can vary based on the application rules and requirements, the data available at that point in processing, and the application function modules available to update the application tables. It is important to search first for application modules that process the data and see if they can be called within the function exit. If the additional data in the extended segments in specific to a custom table or resides in nonkey fields of a single or small set of tables, you may be able to update it directly by SQL statements in the function exit. This approach should be carefully evaluated and is certainly not highly recommended.
Another option is to use Call Transaction from within the function exit to process the additional data. For example, in the case of message type WMMBXY for inbound goods movements from a warehouse management system, the standard interface creates batches for materials, but does not update its characteristics. In such a case, you can use Call Transaction MSC1 to create the batch and assign characteristic values to it from within the function exit provided.
Error handling is a very important consideration when making enhancements to inbound ALE/EDI objects. In ALE and EDI inbound processing, workflow is used for handling errors at different levels such as technical and application. If workflow has been configured for the interface, the error messages and workflow items flow to the inbox of the named recipient(s).
It is also critical to enhance the workflow that handles notifications of the inbound ALE/EDI process. In most scenarios this is not a very difficult task because SAP lets you influence the workflow parameters and messages in function exits (customer functions). You typically do this using flags and message codes to trigger certain workflow actions. If you conform to the status codes and flags stipulated for workflow processing, the enhancement could be error-free and seamless. In the case of an inbound IDOC with an extension, you should populate the EDIDC fields IDOCTYP (new IDOC type) and CIMTYP (extension type) accordingly.
