Wrong encoding using "Mail" on iPad

Sorry for bringing up an old issue - -
the official Mail App seemed to be unable to handle the utf-8 correctlly.
I encountered with the same problem like this thread:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2811597?start=0&tstart=0
I have sent a mail , using my Google Mail account , with Official Mail App.
(I've forced my Google Account to use UTF-8 while sending mail.)
The subject of mail is "メルタスチン" (which pronounced in Japanese sounds like "mail testing")
And the content is "アスタイト" (which sounds similar to "as title")
However I get the mail with wrong encoding type in MIME header:
http://pastie.org/6081304
(The pastie link is clean.)
The subject and content is messed up for sure ,too.
I don't think it's an exeption specified to GMAIL ;I've tested Yahoo!, Hotmail, GMAIL, and it's still not working properly.
However, the mail route acted pretty wiered.
Background:
I'm in Taiwan , people here use Traditional Chinese(local common encoding:Big5), but I need to send a Japanese mail(common encoding Shift_JS).
P.S.
There was an thread on google forum about this issue ; yet there's no pratical soltution.

Try adding a special character to your message to force UTF8 in iPad Mail.  Try an emoji character from the emoji keyboard, or a dingbat via copy/paste from an app like Unicode Map (range 2700).

Try to force quit your mail app. Double tap the home button. You'll see the app icons and previews on the screen. Scroll sideways if needed to bring the mail app up on the screen. Flick the preview up and off the screen to close the app. Tap on the home screen preview to exit the mode.
Try to open your mail again and see if it works.

  • Issues with Japanese encoding using Mail

Since recently (I would say since I updated to 10.6), I have an issue with Japanese-encoded (ISO 2022-JP) mails on my English MacOS.
I have no problem to read, edit and write answers to any mails.
However with some ISO JP-2022-JP encoded messages (sent with Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 (Windows/20090812) btw) I have the following misbehaviour:
    - if I send the message and let the encoding to "automatic", Mail sends the mail in UTF-8, which I do not want since most of Japanese computer do not understand UTF-8 by default (and the receiver gets panicked: "I can not read your mail T_T !")
    - if I set the encoding to "ISO JP-2022-JP", I can not send nor save the message (see [1] at the end of the post). One should note that the error message when saving is really misleading (and yes my hard-drive has a lot of space left) and it should be fixed by Apple.
    - if I dig a bit deeper, I can in effect find some characters in the original message which prevent Mail to send my mail. It however does not make any sense since:
    - those char were in the original message properly encoded in ISO JP-2022-JP
    - those char are always very common ones
The only solution I have found so far is to delete the original message in my mail, which is very frustrating...
A sample of such mail can be found at (I removed personal info. and the mail is about a drinking party):
    Help would be very appreciated.
    Thank you very much.
    Antoine
[1] I get the following error messages:
    -> try to save:
*This message can’t be saved to the Drafts mailbox.*
The message contains one or more attachments that
are too large to be saved in the Drafts mailbox. Try
    deleting some attachments.
    ->try to send
    *Invalid Text Encoding*
Some characters in your message could not be
converted to the “Japanese (ISO 2022-JP)” text
encoding. Choose a different encoding from the
    “Text Encoding” menu.

You can find out about the different versions here, for example:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO/IEC_2022
Thank you. I feel a bit stupid for not having looked in Wikipedia at first...
I sometime wonder how could such basic problem like charset not being solved after more than 40 years of computer science...
Here is a note that addresses that problem, but I don't think it works with 10.6. Might be worth a > try:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=121808&tstart=60
    Thank for the link.
It seems to still work: new japanese mails are now sent in "ISO 2022-JP-2".
However, for messages with the header explicitly specifying "ISO 2022-JP" (which should be "ISO 2022-JP-2" on my mac) it has no influence.
The only ways I see to solve this issue would be:
    i) to force "ISO 2022-JP-2" for all mails (a bit too extreme)
ii) to force the use of "ISO 2022-JP-2" instead of "ISO 2022-JP", but I do not think such precise configuration is possible
This mess appears to be due to Thunderbird which seems to mix "ISO 2022-JP-2" and "ISO 2022-JP", but I do not have any working Thunderbird to test now...

  • Can receive mail using comcast but not using mail on ipad

I can receive and send mail using my comcast app but can only receive mail using the mail app but not send.

Been there and done that with the Comcast email account on my iPad. Specifically ...
Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

  • Using mail my iPad won't reorient. Stuck on one view.  Only a problem with mail.

Ipad won't reorient in mail. Everything else is OK.  Any ideas?

Quit the mail app and restart.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    Or - reset your iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Using Mail on iPad

How do I limit the number of my e mails in my mail account on iPad running 7.04?

Look at this ongoing thread and see if there is anything that helps you.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/23039229#23039229
    Look at this response

You need to delete your current hotmail account set up on your iphone.
Once this has done click 'Add Account' and select the new 'outlook.com' tab.
Set up your hotmail account again from scratch and this will then allow you to select how many weeks/months of emails you sync to your phone.
Im not sure if anyone else had a similar problem to me prior to iOS 7, but if i deleted an email from my hotmail account on my iphone - it wouldnt sync with my actual hotmail account. So when i logged in online all the emails I had deleted on my phone would still be showing as unread.
But by setting the account up as above, they now sync perfectly.
    Well for me anyway

  • Disappearing GMail messages with Apple Mail for iPad

I'm using Mail for iPad to access my GMail account. When I organize messages into different folders using Mail, I often find that some of those messages simply disappear, unless I search for them. This happens regardless of when they were sent (they're not older messages cached on the server).
As an example, a message I received Sunday was placed in a folder. When scrolling back through that folder, the message does *not* appear anywhere, not between the Monday and Saturday messages. However, if I search for that sender, the message *does* appear and says it was received on Sunday, as it was.
I wish I understood why this is happening, as it doesn't seem to make much sense. Thanks for any help!

I have each device to leave message on the server.  We have it set up this way so that my wife and I can see all the mail that comes into our own devices.  Then we can delete off each device as desired.  I go in to the server once a month and delete old mail.
So to recap:  My wife's macpro uses apple mail.  it retrieves the mail from the server; but leaves it on the server.  However, though the email is still on the server, the other devices cannot retrieve the email.  it is like the email is old email that your device has already uploaded; but it hasn't uploaded to the other devices because my wife's mac opens the inbox on server first.
I know that this sounds confusing.  it did not always work this way.  for a long time any of our devices could open the inbox on the server, retrieve the messages and leave the email on the server inbox for the other devices.  this issue is new.

  • I'm unable to connect to any AOL servers using Mail.  Other computers, iPhone, iPad all connect successfully.

    Hello everyone,
I have been working with AOL for about three months now with no end in sight.  I purchased a MacBook Pro in late September and attempted to use Mail (later Outlook with the same results) to download my Gmail and AOL email.  I confirmed all the settings were correct for both accounts and began downloading email.  Once completed, I noticed only my Gmail had downloaded and AOL stated it was unable to connect to any of the servers.  I engaged AOL and they've been making me try random ports, deleting profiles, etc.  Nothing was worked.
I am looking here in hopes someone knows something since I'm able to access AOL email via the web, using my iPhone's Mail app, my iPad's mail app, and two of my Windows laptops.  Only my MacBook Pro with Retina Display (Mid-2012) has issues.  I'm running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 with all updates.
Tried using telnet but get "connection refused".  No firewalls are running.  I thought maybe it was the OS itself so I installed Office 2010 on Windows 7 in Fusion and Outlook gives me "an encrypted connection to your mail server is not available".  This is a clean install with no firewalls, AV, nothing.
In both Windows on Fusion and my Mountain Lion, Outlook and Mail successfully connect to Gmail's IMAP servers but fail to connect to AOL's POP or IMAP servers.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you in advance.

    Thanks for this.
Before I see your suggestion, I did it below that worked well:
    - SIgn off the Mac App store (if you were signed in with another Apple ID)
    - Leave the Mac App store open
    - Quit iTunes and iBooks if they are running
    - Open Safari, and go to Preferences/Privacy
    - Choose to block cookies "Always"
    - Click on "details" under "Remove all website data ..."
    - Search for apple.com; select the "apple.com" line then click "Remove", then click "Done"
    - Quit Safari
    - Open Activity Monitor (search for it using Spotlight or find it in the Applications/Utilities folder)
    - In Activity Monitor, search for "storeagent". You should find "storeagent" and possibly "ibookstoreagent"
    - Select each of them and force quit them (using the X in the toolbar if you are using Mavericks)
    - In the Finder, go to the ~/Library/Cookies folder (go to ~/Library using the "Go" menu while pressing Alt then open the Cookies folder)
    - Delete   "com.apple.appstore.cookies"   and empty the trash.
    - Go to the Mac App Store and sign in. This should work. You can press Esc if asked for your username and password a second time.
    - Go to Safari, then Preferences/Privacy
    - Choose to block cookies "from third parties and advertisers"
    - Go back to the Mac App Store. You should be able to use it "normally".
Some steps might be overkill, but it seems to work for me now.
    Anyway, thanks!!

Sounds like you got a store demo. Look in your settings and see if you see "Demo Mode/Demonstration Mode" or something similar.

  • Syncing mail on iPad, iphone, & mac Pro using Cloud

I use mail app on my Mac Pro to view my gmail account, now with iCloud how do I sync my mail on my mac pro, iPhone, & iPad so they are all updated as one account.  Currently I my mail on my iPhone and iPad update with each, but my mail on my Mac Pro does not.  I thought when I updated to Lion I would be able to use iCloud to solve this problem, but it has not.

That depends on the email service you are using. If the gmail account is an IMAP account, it should work the same as iCloud mail and stay in sync. The only difference being that you would need to set your gmail account up on each device manually.

iCloud will only sync devices on the same account. There is no way around having to purchase more storage, unfortunately for you.

  • I use mail 4.5 on my macbook, is there a way to also use same program on my ipad?

i currently use mail 4.5 on my mac book and now have the Ipad 3 , is there a way to use the same software for mail on both devices?

No, you can either use the built-in Mail app, download an app from the store, or use a browser - you can't use a Mac program, they are different operating systems.

It sounds like you might need to contact Yahoo! if you aren't able to setup your email account as a new account after deleting it.
I found some links on the Yahoo! website that might help:

  • Running mac OS 10.5.8, Using Mail 3.5, Text encoding set to Automatic. messages arrive, but the message is 200  lines of alphanumerics. Top says Content-Type: text/plain;      charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64.

I use Mail 3.6 and some incoming email messages start with
    Content-Type: text/plain;
        charset=utf-8
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
then go on to 200+ lines of alphanumerics (mostly upper and lower case letters).
What causes this problem, how can I fix it?
Text encoding is set to Automatic, and  I'm not using any fancy fonts.  Senders are usually
sending from PCS that may well use Outlook.

how do I continue to use Mail on my MacBook2? i use iCloud on my iPhone and iPad but cannot receive my Mail account on my older MacBook. I have followed the iCloud/move link as suggested but it doesn't give me the continue to use Mail option. Any help gratefully received.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Delete your mail account from Mail preferences and set it up again using the Mail Server Information.
Some users have apparently encountered issues using this information in pre-Lion set ups (I haven't), Roger Wilmut has kindly provided instructions for those who find themselves with this problem.
