Wrong icon shows on saved files

When I save a Sketchup file it is saved with the icon of another program. Apple help says to open a file with the wrong icon and another file with the correct icon. From the "Get Information" window opened on both files delete the wrong icon and cut/paste the correct icon in it's place. That doesn't work for me because all of my Sketchup files show the wrong icon. In other words, I cannot open a file with the correct icon. How can I replace the incorrect icon on all of my Sketchup files with the correct one?

Did you choose the file and "get Info" (command-i), then choose the correct application in the "Open with" tab and then check "Change All"?

I was told to tap the "arrow" in the blue field, but my ipad only shows an "i" icon. How do I get to the "forget this network" so I can reset my wi-fi connection?

Settings>Wi-Fi tap on the blue i in the blue circle next to the right of the network that you have joined. If you haven't joined that network or already forgotton the network, you will see Join Network.

No Icon to Open Saved Files

I don't know what has happened, but now every time I save a song I have no icon to reopen the song. The only place there is an icon is in the back-up folder. Any idea what has happened?

Thank you so much for your help. Actually it turned out to be the craziest thing. I installed a program called ZumoCast. It's a program that enables me to stream my Itunes on the computer to my Ipad. It works wonderfully for this, but through trial and error I figured out that when it is enabled I am unable to save my Logic songs (or at least the file needed to open the song). It's just plain weird, and I had ZumoCast set to open when I started the computer. Needless to say that's now changed and things are back to normal.

How does the icon get created for a saved file

In my program I allow saving files using JFileChooser and ActionListener.
In the constructor of the main class which extends JFrame I also set an icon by saying:
this.setIconImage(new ImageIcon("image.jpg").getImage());
This does not only set an icon on the title bar and the minimized window, it also creates an icon on my saved files. However, the image quality for the icon on my saved files is bad, even though the image quality for the other icons is ok. The size of the icon image I am providing is close to the size of the icon image on my saved files.
How did the icon get created for my saved files? Is it possible to improve the image quality?

I just realized that
this.setIconImage(new ImageIcon("image.jpg").getImage())
did not create the icon for my saved files.
So what did create it? I did not program it!
However, I happen to have an icon file Ananya.ico where I have my java project. I use if for my installation file. Did Java use this icon?

Elements 9 saved file "cannot open because it is the wrong type of file"

I have Windows XP. I just purchased Photoshop Elements 9.
I open a raw, tiff or jpg image in Elements 9, make changes to it and then save it as a tiff or jpg.
About a third of the time the icon for the saved image appears as a file and not a thumbnail of the image in my saved folder.
When I try to re-open it in Elements 9 I get the message "Cannot open because it is the wrong type of file"
I never had this problem with Elements 7.

Every camera model has its own raw format, and Adobe can't update the camera raw plug-in until it gets the information from the manufacturer, and the process takes a while. You shouldn't have to wait more than a couple of months for this. In the meantime you can use the manufacturer's software, or try downloading the latest DNG converter to see if it can make DNG files from your camera that will work in ACR.
Incidentally, you're not talking to adobe here, just to other users like yourself.

When saving file to remote server it saves to wrong site

I'm frustrated try to save a file to the remote server. I
connect to the server OK. Then I open an html document, make my
changes and save it. But instead of saving it where the file came
from it connects to a different on of my sites. Ack!! Even when I
try to "save as" it will connect to the one I want and then connect
to wrong one to upload the file.

have you checked your site definition to make sure you have
the correct
site specified in the remote info?

Dreamweaver saving files to wrong folders

I have so many problems with DW, but recently, I spent 4 days putting together a complex page only to have it saved to another folder. I resaved it to the correct folder, then deleted the first file. Obviously, I deleted everything, all my work and everything. Why does this keep happening? If I open a document in a specific site folder, why does it save it to another site folder?
I can see that I'm not saving things properly, and I guess I don't know how. I save the file to the site that I want, but it saves to a different site folder instead. Hope this makes sense. Any help is appreciated.

Yes I'm working from a defined site. I begin a "new document from template", find the template, then begin the page. I realize I was working too fast, and got the wrong site when I saved the file, but why does DW do that? Why, If I'm working from a certain template that's defined to a specific site, am I allowed to save to a different site, even by accident? If I had been smart, I would have done it all on notepad, then just pasted it into the program.
Here's what I did:
1. New document from template
2. save page as:
3. The wrong site must have been called up and I didn't notice it.
I've built so many pages to this site without this problem, why does it save it to antoher site?

Issue with Saved File Icons

Hi, I'm having a bit of trouble with the icons for saved files in Premiere CS6 and After Effects CS6.
I've just recently made the transition from 5.5 to 6 and so far everything has been hunky dory. However, today I found that my system wouldn't recognise the saved files from Premiere, AE and Photoshop. So I right clicked on them and chose 'open with', found the correct programs and tried it that way. Photoshop worked fine, but Premiere and AE now have icons that, basically are a white square with a small 'PR' and 'AE' in the centre (same as the exe files). These icons do open up their corresponding projects, there is no issue with that, it's just a bit annoying. the only thing I did today was uninstall my CS 5.5 versions and download some AE templates from Adobe.
Anyone know of a way to reset the icons so they have their original look?

I did today was uninstall my CS 5.5 versions
It's not a good idea to uninstall older versions after a newer version installed. Things to tend to get messed up. Always uninstall the old ones first.
Try reinstalling CS6.

Files saved on memory stick on pc show as original file name followed by .XML and i cannot open why

I have files on my work laptop (PC) e.g. document1.doc (word document), I then save it to my memory stick (which i have reformatted, I also tried my external disk drive) and then take that to my macbook, plug it in and in finder it then shows as document1.doc.XML, which i cannot open. It happens to all types of files, it just seems to add .XML on the end of everything.

Simplesave sd320a does not show saved files or directory structure, disk full?, I can restore

I was saving files from an old win95 machine to bring them to a new laptop which is windows 7. I plugged in the drive which is not full and I can only see the hp launcher. In drive properties this drives shows 100 pct full.
I can and did pull up an old simple save backup and restore pictures.
The windows 7 machine is a locked down work machine. Maybe the file structure was changed by the windows 95 machine and now my windows 7 machine can not see the root directory?
I have not written to the drive since storing all of the pictures from the 95 machine and unplugging the external hard drive.
I am looking for help on how to see the files in the root directory that I simply use the copy command to move them on to the external drive.

Have you found a solution yet? I don’t know if I will be of any help but I was curious and no one else has chimed in yet.
I don’t quite understand all of your statement.
To clarify, you were making SimpleSave backups from Win95 and cannot see them all on the Win7 laptop?
Or
You were copying files over (SimpleSave utility not used) and you cannot see those files on Win7 but you can on the Win95 machine?
Do you have another Win7 machine you could connect the external to, to see if the files are still not showing (one that is not locked for work)?
On the drive that shows full, can you see it in Disk Management showing the correct size of the drive and also another CD drive? Not your real CD/DVD drive, it’s actually a CD emulator that is attached to the HDD for encrypting the backups and all SimpleSave’s have them.
Lastly, did you reformat the SimpleSave drive to Fat32 first?
My understanding is that USB support was quite limited on Win95 machines. Since Win95 is Fat32 and the SimpleSave drive is by default NTFS, I would think it would not work.

The document saving portion of the app was moved to the printer control app for the 5.0 update. You can use file sharing to copy the files from your device with 4.1, and then copy them in to the printer control app after. This can either be done wirelessly, or by USB through itunes. The document below will show you how to do both options to get them copied off of the device. Then you simply do the same steps in the printer control app to copy files back in.

Wrong icons on files

Some of my files in OS 10.3.9 take on the wrong icons. Nothing I know to do straightens this out. For example, one of my pdf's currently has the custom icon from one of my jpg's
iMac 400 & 600; iBook 700; Beige G3; Others Mac OS X (10.3.9)

RUnning the regular maintenance scripts, anad repairing permissions, should fix this. What's happening is that computer is having trouble remembering whiìch bits of data to assign to other bits of data.
This happens. It comes about in normal use of the computer, and it needs periodic fixing.
There are many utilities that will help with doing these maintenance tasks. My own favourite is Main Menu.

Having problems getting saved files in PS CS3 to show up in folders in Vista - help?

My sincerest apologies if this has floated across oyur screens before, but I don't seem to be pluggin in the correct set of keywrds to bring it up in the search if it has.
Here's my dilemma. I just bought a new computer which came preloaded with Vista, and uploaded my old copy of CS3 onto it. The program seems to be working fine, except that when I open a file in Photoshop and edit it, then save it in a new file (as I do for most of my photoshoots, etc), or even when I save it in the orignial folder, the new "saved" file will not show up in the Vista folder. If I go back to Photoshop and open the folder via File>Open, I can access all of my pictures, but to I cannot access them to upload to the internet, email, use in other programs, etc.
If I go into "Recently Changed Documents" I can find them, but they seem to be in a temp folder in the Adobe folders. But again, if I go back to Adobe, it says they are in the folder I put them in.
Any ideas what's going on here?

They are hidden for whatever reason, either you have a permission problem or they are registered incorrectly with Explorer. Open the folder, then check Extras --> Folder Options. Disable the Hide System Files option and then the more generic Hidden Files section a little lower. If that reveals the files, it's time to check the File Types tab in the same panel and see, why it actually thinks your documents are system files. the simplest solution would be to remove the PSD association and then create it new, when you open a file wit6h a double-click. Of course al lthe above assumes that not some security tool or another application is "stealing" your file type associations. If you have such tools, checking their config may already solve the problems.

Simple question, - When I download, and/or save a file to the desktop. They all stack on the bottom right corner of my screen (monitor). This never used to happen. The saved files always filled in unused areas, . . . is there a setting I could change to reverse that? -

thanks for replying, I tried that, the stacking problem was resolved, but icons cannot be rearranged and are frozen in place then. It's still a small mystery, I want to be able to move the icons around freely, and still have a download fall not on the corner of top of one another, . . . hmm, . . .

An icon showed up on my desk top. It is an Excel file named DDD76100 but I can't delete, Get Info, or open. Concerned it could be malware.
