Wrong Machine message with genuine Toshiba recovery disk

I have a Sat  Pro L300 EZ1004X and ordered a recovery disk from Toshiba after giving them the model number and serial number. When I boot from the disk I get a "Wrong Machine" message with an exit button that just powers off the machine, there is no exit to DOS. Booting from recovery partition by holding down 0 does not work either, just some colors at the top of the screen. The laptop was refurbished at a genuine Toshiba service center. The recovery disks are labelled L300 series. The machine was running fine until attacked by the Alureon virus and now hangs at the Microsoft screen on boot. I want to wipe the disk and start again. Net research indicated I may need a DMI reset utility, but the one I found at the Toshiba site does not list the L300 models. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You're right, Chris. If the recovery disc is the correct one, the DMI string in the machine needs fixing. Since the utility for that computer is not posted, you need to contact Toshiba. It's 800-457-7777 or..

  • Problems with the Toshiba Recovery Disk Generator program

    Hi,
I have a Satellite Pro U400 laptop running XP SP3 - iyes t's old, but still running with newly added memory and a new battery.
I wanted to make a fresh set of recovery disks so I fired up the Toshiba app. It created the first disk fine. Then it prompted for Disk 2. So I put Disk 2 in.  It contemplated for a bit, it said it would now create disk 2.  Then, it prompts me again for Disk 2. There's no error message or anything. So, I ejected the disk and tried a different one.  Several times.  It just can't get past this to create disks 2 and 3.
I downloaded an "update" I found on the Toshiba site, but it didn't change anything.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Hello
I think you mixed up something...
The hidden Windows partition (Recovery Environment) has nothing to do with the Toshiba recovery disk or HDD recovery procedure. This is a Windows feature that is on all PCs and notebooks available so my suggestion is you read this good Wikipedia article about this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recovery_Environment
The HDD recovery files are stored on the second partition of the HDD in the folder HDDRecovery. So if you use the HDD recovery function only the first partition will be formatted and you can only use this feature if you have access to the advanced boot menu. If you dont have it you must use the Toshiba recovery disk because the disk formats the whole HDD and restore the factory settings of the notebook (the HDD recovery too but only with the first partition).
You can change the partition size of both partitions but there should be enough free space on both partitions. Otherwise the HDD recovery does maybe not work.
About the Vista partition tool I can prefer this useful article:

I hope you understand it better now and if you have more questions please let us know.

  • Re: Does partitionning cause problems with the Toshiba Recovery System ?

I'm french so don't be afraid of mistakes !
I wonder if I can repartition my HDD as I want
First of all, I explain you what I've understood with the FAQ:
If Vista fail to boot, Toshiba Recovery in the hidden partition WinRE ( eisa configuration) offer to repair and use either the DVD we have burn or the directory HDDRecovery in the partition E: to repair.
My question is if I don't have the DVD (or if I lost it) :
Can I repartition my HDD (not the Recovery partition but enlarge the partition C: en reduce the partition E:) without causing problems of recovery ?
In other terms will the Recovery partition at boot update the position of recovery files in E:
And if it works, can I simply copy-paste the HDDRecovery directory from E: to C: and then to E: while I format E:
    Thank you for your answers

  • Can't reformat using Toshiba recovery disk

    Hi,
I'm not sure my question was posted by others or not. Please let me know if someone had posted this.
    Here's my problem.
I had put the recovery CD into the CD-ROM. Then I restart my laptop and press F12 and choose boot from CD-ROM. Then I come to a black screen where there written "Windows 98 ..."
After wait for awhile, fail message appear.
My laptop was with Windows XP and I do not know why the word "Windows 98" appear. After failed, I try go in window and double click the CD-ROM setup and it said could not read one of the file in CD. The CD is used to reformat the laptop before.
    Is it the CD corrupted?

    Hey mate,
First of all it would be interesting to know what notebook you have. Maybe it was delivered with Windows 98 recovery disk I dont know.
Theoretically it could be a problem of the CD. Just try another disk and see what happens.

  • Toshiba recovery disks do not work

I purchased the recovery disks for the NB255-N250 from Toshiba after my hdd was replaced under warranty by a retailer. The first disk errors out after 5 minutes with the error "0a 0244 0000". Speaking with tech support today they offered me the option of sending it in at my expense. I have already paid $25 for the disks and now they want another $25 more. This appears to be a very common error on Google but no one has posted what they did to resolve it. The system will accept a straight install of Windows 7 but not the recovery disks. Any suggestions?

    You're very welcome.
Glad you got everything to work.

  • Satellite P500 - Restart loop after using Toshiba recovery disk

    Hi,
I have got a problem recovering SATELLITE P500. I had made the recovery disks. It boots ok from the recovery disk and formats the hard drive and copies the disks to the hard drive. It then starts windows setup and reboots.
Then it goes to a loop
    1) Start up and says "Setup is preparing your computer for first use"
    2) Toshiba banner saying please wait... Finnishing installation may take several minutes. Pleae do not interupt or shutdown the computer!
    3) Windows logo
    4) Shutting down...
    5) restarts and goes to 1)
It would be great if some one could help me with this.
    Many thanks,
    Softari

    Hello
I have noticed the same on my Satellite P500 but I must say its not an issue, its absolutely normal. The notebook will restart several times (10 times or more) to finish the installation.
You must know that a lot of drivers/tools will be installed and certain restart must be done to configure everything properly.
So dont interrupt the recovery installation, just wait a little bit longer and drink a coffee. Everything happens automatically and your notebook will be reinstalled with factory settings. :)

  • Presario 1610nx- Will not boot up -even with provided HP recovery Disk or system restore

Dead in the water- the computer had a system recovery disk - all the exe and bat files on the disk do not lead to any restore ractivity- but by doing either  the f8 or f10  we WERE ABLE to get to a system retore screen - no date options so assumed this was to original set up however, when it started it ran slow and after a few hours stopped with an error messsage with less than 30% restore completed. The message states something like this assume not found  Multi(0) Disk(0) rDisk(0) Partision2\windows\system32\KDcom.DLL  then repeats all but the last which changes to other  files NTOSKRNL.EXE   HAL.DLL ETC
My mother in law whose computer it is never did any recovery disks and assumed the one supplied by HP was all she would need if it came to that-- Am I missing a restore disk command- the bat files will run but alas no restore and best success is getting to a prompt with no next steps.
So have tried looking for info here but nothing has come up like this. Does any one have suggestions?

  • Upgrading to Windows 7 with Lenovo original recovery disks

    Hi all,
Here is the question. I got my x301 recently with Vista Ultimate on it. From the looks of it Windows 7 will be released soon and it appears to be much smoother system, hence I would like to migrate. Here is the question - would you reckon it will be possible to obtain from Lenovo a set of recovery disk which would return your machine into original factory condition, same as on Vista, but with Windows 7, whenever the new OS is out. Even if official free upgrade will not be available, I'm happy to pay for the licence upgrade or for the new license. The key concern is to burn original recovery setup on my disk, as if it would've been shipped with Windows 7.
Anyone got here similar experiences ? For example moving from pre-installed XP on machine to Vista in such a way ? And what are the opinions ?
    Thanks !
    Regards !
    X301, 128 SSD, 4GB, Vista 32-Bit Ultimate

the decision to do this will be on microsoft, not lenovo.   if microsoft offers a vista > 7 upgrade path then lenovo will be allowed to sell recovery media to customers who can prove current ownership via MTM/SN and COA.   if microsoft doesn't offer such a path then you'll have to purchase windows 7 via retail channels.

  • Create new partition VS. Use Toshiba recovery disk

    Hi
I've bought a new Toshiba Satellite S50-A-00G. I want to create a new partition (D for my personal documents.
Could I create a new partition (with Windows 8 built-in utilities) and use Toshiba restore disk for reformat ONLY the system partition (C?
    Thanks

Hi skid! I'm not sure what your'e wanting to do. I can tell you what I do. I also have a 1TB external drive. I have a program called Macrium Reflect. It is a great program and there is a free version. Once a month I create a image of my drive. It will create a image of all three of my partitions. If I have some major problems. I restore that image and I'm back just like the day I created the image. I never use the Toshiba recovery media, because I don't want to start over from day one.
I'm sure you will get better replies during the week.

  • Problem with HP G62 Recovery Disks

    Hello,
I am having a problem with restoring the operating system on an HP G-62 Notebook. When I first purchased the notebook I was unable to make the recovery disks, so I recently ordered some new ones from HP. Because I has installed Ubuntu on the notebook, I wiped it from the hard drive used Wipedrive to delete the old Ubuntu operating system I had installed.
The notebook reads the first disk ok and installs part of windows, but when the screen comes on asking for disk number two it freezes up and never installs anything when you try to move anything on that screen it wont do anything and it wont install the second disk. It just keeps saying 'please wait'.
    Thanks, Robert
    This question was solved.

    Hi, Robert:
I can't help you to get the recovery disks to work, but if you can read all 25 characters of the windows 7 product key on the bottom of your PC, you can make your own windows 7 installation disk to reinstall the operating system.
    Here's how:
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Or use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

  • Installing Vista using Parallels from a Toshiba Recovery Disk

I'm trying to use my copy of Vista from an older, now defunct Toshiba laptop. The recovery disks which include the operating system are not properly installing Vista within Parallels. Is there a way to extract the operating system from the recovery disks for use in Parallels?

No, those discs are proprietary to Toshiba hardware and will not work properly.

  • Using Toshiba recovery disks my L505d ES5025 fails the Windows 7 setup

    Hello,
My L505 progressively got slower and started having errors.  Then Windows wouldn't load regularly, only in safe mode.  Then Safe mode would load.  I then purchased the recovery disks for my model and started the recovery process.  Everything was going smoothly.  All three disk were installed, and Windows was doing its things setting up for the first time use.  After the fourth or fifth time Windows restarted it froze.
I turned it off with the power switch. Turned it back on and asked if I wanted to start in safe mode or regular.  I choose regular.  It started and went to the log on screen. The Administrator account was the only one to choose from.  I clicked it and it said that account had been deactivated.
I turned it off and back on and went with safe mode. Worked fine.  Added another account all looked good. Turned it off turned it back on, went to log on screen choose the new account, then it went to blank desktop and froze.
I have tried the recovery 3 times. Once using the wipe HDD method thinking something might be causing a problem. Nothing worked. Is this a hardware or software problem?  What should my next steps be?
    Thanks You,
    John

It sounds like the recovery process isn't completing successfully, which makes me think it's a hardware problem. The HDD is the most likely to fail, but it's hard to know for sure. If you have another HDD that you could try, I'd try that next.

  • Can't reinstall Windows 7 with Operating System Recovery Disk x120e

    Hi,
I dabbled with Ubuntu on my Thinkpad x120e, but found that the dual-boot was unneccessary.  I (likely foolishly) followed directions online to use EasyBCD (http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/nongeeks-guide-safely-uninstall-ubuntu-dualbooting-machine/) to overwrite GRUB.
Of course, now Windows won't load!  I get an error
    Windows failed to start...
    1. Insert your Windows installation disc...
    2. Choose your language..
    3. Click "Repair your computer"
If you do not have the disc, ...
    File: \Boot\BCD
    Status: 0xc0000098
Info: The Windows Boot Configuration Data file does not contain a valid OS entry.
I got the Operating System Recovery Disc from lenovo (thanks Lenovo for sending it) and copied it to a USB as the computer has no DVD drive.  When I start the computer from the USB and select run from USB, it begins to load Windows, then Lenovo Rescue and Recovery 4...but then it crashes and restarts.  When I hit f8 and startup in SafeMode, it begins to load the safemode screen, but then also crashes.
Any advice on what to do??  Many thanks.

    Hello,
If you are okay with erasing the contents of the hard disk drive, you can try booting to a Windows Command Prompt, running DISKPART.EXE, selecting the hard disk drive, and issuing a "clean" command, which will erase the disk so that the operating system can be reloaded.

  • Search and Replace String throwing the wrong error message with regexp?

This came up in a LAVA thread, and I'm not sure if there's a bug here or not. When using Search and Replace string, and using a regular expression of [(G[b|i])], LabVIEW throws error -4622, "There is an unmatched parenthesis in a regular expression."  There are obviously no unmatched parenthesis in that expression, so it seems to me that the wrong error is being thrown. I'm just not sure if that's a syntactically valid regexp. The problem seems to be with nesting [ ]'s inside ( )'s inside [ ]'s. I've tried a couple of regexp resources on the Web, and one suggests it's valid, while the other seems to think it isn't.

I think your regexp is invalid.
In regexps, brackets are not the same as parentheses.  Parens are for grouping, while brackets are for matching one of a class of characters.  Brackets can not be nested.
If the regexp is replaced with [G[bi]], there is no error, so it's not a matter of nested brackets. I couldn't find anything on the PCRE man page that forbids nested brackets specifically, but it makes sense.
Your expression "[(G[bi])]", therefore parses as a character class which matches '(', 'G', '[', 'b', or 'i' followed by an unmatched paren, and an unmatched bracket.
I don't believe that's the case. Replace the regexp with [(Gbi)], and the error goes away. So it's not a matter of the '(' being literal, and then encountering a ')' without a matching '('.
    daveTW wrote:
what string exactly you want to replace? I think the round braces are not right in this case, since they mark partial matches which are given back by "match regular expression". But you don't want to extract parts of the string, you want to replace them (or delete, with empty <replace string>). So if you leave the outer [( ... )] then your RegEx means all strings with either "Gb" or "Gi".
It's not my regular expression. A poster at LAVA was having problems with one of his (a truly frightening one), and this seemed to be the element that was causing the problem. I'm pretty sure that the originator of the regexp meant to use G(b|i), which seems like a complicated way of matching "Gb" or "Gi", if you ask me.

    Hello.
I try to compile next code with Flex SDK4:

    all works good.
Both have same -use-network=true -services F:/tomcat/webapps/samples/WEB-INF/flex/services-config.xml options.
Please, help. I don't find mistake.

Hi. So the difference here is that in the mxml example, the application code, components, etc. are inside an mx:Application tag. This means that the Consumer and Producer are running within the Flex framework. These components were never meant to be used in pure ActionScript, ie. outside the context of the Flex framework. Your actionscript example is not using the Producer and Consumer in the context of the Flex framework. It appears in this case that some stuff required for the Producer and Consumer to work is missing.
I took a quick stab at trying to get this to work by tweaking the application to use a ChannelSet I configured manually in the client application instead of using the one provided by the ServerConfig object (the compiled in information from services-config.xml). I think I got slightly farther than you did but there still were problems. I got a message fault saying "The consumer was not able to subscribe to its target destination."
Here is my code if you want to take a look at it. You might try seeing if you can create the Application (mx.core.Application) and set it up directly in ActionScript. Not sure if that will work but it seems like a better approach than trying to get the Consumer and Producer to work by removing all depenencies on the Flex framework.
