Wrong mail sender-address! but why?

my sender address in mail is "[email protected]", but all my recipients get "[email protected]" and all answer lead to a wrong address. i checked my settings but everything seems to be ok. what is wrong and who can help me to solve my problem. are there other settings or hidden features, i don´t know? thnaks in advance - john

A dangling outgoing mail server in your Mail settings could cause this -- don't ask me why.
Mail allows you to set up outgoing mail servers independently of any specific mail account. In the account settings you just associate one of the outgoing servers with the account -- the outgoing server entry itself is kept separately. Deleting a mail account does not delete the outgoing mail server associated with it in the outgoing mail servers list that Mail keeps independently of the accounts themselves.
Go to Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), choose Edit Server List, and delete any servers that shouldn't be there.
Alternatively, Mail comes with some scripts available under the Script menu when that menu is enabled. There is a Manage SMTP Servers there that finds any unused (dangling) outgoing mail servers and gives you the option to delete them. Type "script menu" in Mail Help for more information on this feature.
Please let me know if this really solves your problem, as I myself don't understand why it should.

I can receive email but cannot send it. The error message is "CANNOT SEND MAIL the sender address was invalid". I have turned off Wi-Fi and as well as SSL. Does anyone know a fix?

    Was it working before?
Verify that the ISP you are using is not blocking SMTP port 25. If so, try switching your Outgoing SMTP server to cwmx.com (AT&T SMTP server). This option will only send mail over 3G or EDGE.

  • Which e-mail sender address field is checked for restricted ePrint?

If I restrict ePrint to only accept print requests from certain e-mail addresses: Which e-mail address field of the incoming e-mail is checked?
    a) E-mail message header From:?
    b) E-mail message header Sender:?
    c) SMTP MAIL FROM: (the sender address on the "SMTP envelope")?

    Hi Christob,
If you are selecting Allow Senders Only under ePrintcenter.com.
Then you have to put in the email address of the people who can send jobs to your printer via ePrint.
Example:- If your friend wants to send an email to your printer and you have selected allow senders only.
You will have to have his email address in there (the email address from which he is going to send an email) for him to send an ePrint Job to your printer.
I hope this answers your question, if you have any question please let us know.
    Thanks

  • Why is mail sending messages but not receiving?  problem just started.

not sure that anything has changed on my imac recently.  i am running 10.7.3.  i can send mail but it's not receiving.  help appreciated.

    benhill00,
Please look over Apple's Mail Setup, Troubleshooting etc.. link. I suspect a setting has just gotten "confused" or become corrupt somehow. Frequently all you need to do is go into the Mail's Account settings and re-input the settings.

  • "E-mail sender address rejected message"

    Hello guys.
I have a big issue with my mobile devices. My Apple ID is [email protected] When I started using iCloud I created a [email protected] email address.
In Mail on my Mac all works perfectly, but on my iPhone 4 and iPad2 I cannot send mails, but I canjust receive them.
If I go in settings->Mail or in iCloud settings I see my Apple ID ([email protected]) instead my [email protected] address in the "e-mail address" field.
It looks like it sends mails from my Apple ID address instead my me.com address.
I tried everything: I managed my Apple ID deleting my [email protected] address as email address, I deleted my iCloud account from my iPhone
and then set it up again... but It didn't work.
Does anyone have the same problem? How did you solve it?
    Thank you!

i have the same problem with my 3gs and tried to add my email acc+pass in the outgoing server but it got rejected.
just bin on the phone(45min) with my carrier support about this issue they are pretty much scratching there head, the settings i should use gets verified with no problems when i add the outgoung server, but still cant send mails.

  • Cannot Send Mail Sender Address Invalid

when replying to an email, I receive this message. It is a POP3 account. I've experienced this in the iPod touch and reset the touch, it worked. Tried the same in the iPad, no luck. I've checked and rechecked that the smtp address is correct. I can receive but not send..help

I called and spoke with Apple at Apple Care.
Reset your iPad by holding the home key and power button simultaneously, wait for it to reset then, go to:
    Settings>Mail,Contact,Calendars>select your email acct.>Advanced>Authentication>Password
Also under the Advanced, make sure "Use SSL" is turned on
Mine has worked perfect since Sunday morning.

  • How to use multiple mail sending address in SMTP relay for exchange online

We have one SMTP relay configured with [email protected] credentials. one oracle application automatically shoots mail to users using this [email protected] to users. So if recipient reply on auto-generated mail it goes to mailbox of [email protected] (so that application
team see and reply to any query raised by recipient).
Now my requirement is, I want to notify users about their password expiry before 10  days (something like that) I have made the script and tested it in lab. But the main requirement is I want to use [email protected] mail ID for sending mail. And if any recipient
reply on the auto-generated mail it goes to [email protected] mailbox (which is managed by different team).
So the query How can I use two different mailbox enabled IDs for sending mails on a single SMTP Relay server

  • Mail sending Reply, but not saving reply in thread.

Over the past week an entirely new problem has cropped up.
When I send a reply to somebody, once in a while the reply message I send does not show up in the thread.
It seems like it goes out... making the mail out swoosh sound, but there is no message that gets tacked to the replied to message.
The reply does not show up in sent messages, drafts, or recovered messages.
There simply is no record of my replies.
This doesn't happen with every message so it is sporadic.
Some of the messages seem to go out because people reply that they received the message when I start a new message asking about it.
    Others seem to have disappeared.
I am wondering if this is happening with others.
It seems to have happened since the last mail upgrade which I think happened in the last week or few weeks if I remember correctly.
Because of this I think I need to abandon mail and use the web interfaces for my mail programs which seem to be functioning correctly.
I am using Mountain Lion 10.8.5.
None of my mail settings has changed.
None of my mail preferences or passwords has been changed in any way.
One day it was working.... then replying became a hit or miss as to whether I could see it after I sent it and possibly whether other people received my reply or not.

Thanks for discovering this issue being connected to drafts. I have trouble with this for a couple of months as well.
Since you assume it to be connected to "drafts", I suggest to deselect "Store draft messages on the server" for your IMAP-Account. I just did this for myself, to see if it helps, and can't give you results yet. Maybe you just wanna try simultaneously. I guess, the reason for our problem could me some messy communication between Mail and the server, where one party get's confused.
    Greetings
    Paul

  • Mail Sending One, but leaves 2 in the Sent folder

Mail is leaving duplicates in my "Sent" folder when I send anything, even though it only sends one email. I've tried to correct the problem by following the procedure posted below, but it didn't solve the problem.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6668989&#6668989

The email was sent from my mac.com account and it is not visible also when I access the Sent folder on iCloud.

  • Incorrect mail sender address

When I send an e-mail on my Virgin Media account, a prefix, "41 Club" is added to my e-mail address. Consequently, it appears as:-                                                41 Club <[email protected]>. This is incorrect. How can I remove this irritating prefix?

Thanks very much Glenn. Your suggestion made me think a little harder and look a little wider. Some time ago, I served as secretary of our local 41 Club (Former Round Table members). Some of our members reckoned they weren't receiving my group mailings, so I added my second (Virgin Media) e-mail address in the Group Contacts under 41Club. It was this address Mail was picking up when I used Virgin Media. I have removed this Contact and removed and re-entered my own details. Following your suggestion, I also made sure this card is marked ME.
Hopefully this will solve the problem!

  • Cannot Send Mail  Sender Address Rejected by server (Mac Mail)

I am getting this message whenever I try to send mail using MAC mail though my cable provider (COX). It has just started. I can send mail fine from a PC on my network and via at ATT wireless card. But not via cable. I have tried all the obvious things and many things discussed in the forum including:
    - Run disk warrior in case there was a file problem
    - Delete user info from cox account
    - Reset modem and router
    - Change outgoing port
    - switched from wifi to Ethernet connection
In talking to COX, they say they seem to have some undocumented incompatibilities with Mac mail that appear to be intermittent. He said this is common problem.
I have had this problem one other time and resetting the modem seemed to fix the problem.
Anybody find a permanent solution to this problem.

Well I think I solved it. It appears that the outgoing server information dissapeared. The outgoing mail menue is hard to find go to preferences/accounts.
At the bottom of the page is a pull down menu of different outgoing servers. One of the options is edit. Select this. While my COx account was there the information was no longer there. Filled it in again and everything worked fine.
I must say it took me a while to find where I could adjust the outgiong mail server. Very poor design on Apple's part!

  • Strange behavior in Tiger Mail - Sending Messages but they don't go through

Hi everyone. I have a perplexing issue that is causing angst in my household. My wife uses a G4 iMac with Tiger 10.4.11. She has a .mac account for email using Apple's "Mail". Up until a few weeks ago, she had no problems with e-mail....coming or going. I made a move to a DSL modem and new ISP provider, and she could not send e-mail anymore. She still receives, but the outgoing messages go only to the outbox. We got her a work-around using the web-based .Mac, but that is not how it is supposed to work. (Our two daughters use their .mac accounts on the same machine, but have no problems sending or receiving.)
I switched back to the cable modem this weekend, and we still experience the same problem. My wife's account does not send, but the kids' accounts still have no problem. I have experimented with the account settings, and it doesn't work for hers, even using the same settings as for the other users. I deleted the account and set it up again, but nothing seems to help. Using the connection doctor, it shows the connections are okay.
This is using port 25 with no SSL, using port 587 with SSL...always the same result. It has even stopped giving error messages. It just goes to the outbox and sits there.
    Any suggestions?
    Mitch

They use the same ISP and settings. I have tried re-setting up her account, and also using the ISP (Time Warner RoadRunner) to try and force them through. The kids' accounts just go through smtp.mac.com for outgoing mail, but neither works for the wife's account.
Needless to say, I need to fix the wife's account!

  • Can't send mail: sender address rejected by server

    help

Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below for the .Mac SMTP server.
What is entered in the Server Port field?
If 25, enter 587 instead and when finished select OK to save the changed setting.
If you are already using 587 for the Server Port, are you also accessing an email account and SMTP server provided by your ISP used for connecting to the internet with the Mail.app and if so, are you able to send messages with your ISP's email account?
If yes to both, select/use your ISP's SMTP server to send messages with your .Mac account.
